Creative's workaround for the idiocy that Microsoft pulled was Alchemy. It restored functionality that vista/7 screwed up. (As Necrotron just posted.)
It's been working just fine until today. -
Hey, je_saist, your input means exactly nothing to me.
3D sound under Win 7 worked on MY rig prior to today's patch. All speakers were in use. Sounds moved from speaker to speaker as I turned around.
Now everything sounds like crap because the vast majority of the sound is being piped out my front center speaker while the rest are barely recieving any signal at all. And for what? Because the devs have arbitrarily blocked the game from functioning properly with MY sound card.
And I know I'm not the only person using a X-Fi Gamer card.
I'm confusing exactly nothing and you should cease spewing forth irrelevant garbage.
Developers, if nothing else, please provide a command line flag that will force enable the 3D sound option that you have broken. Thanks. -
Turn it back on devs. Your reasoning for killing it off was not true then and it isn't true now.
I'd like for the game I've been playing with proper 3D sound for over 5 years, including during beta, to not sound like crap now that this has gone live.
Thanks.
EDIT: Yes, I'm running Windows 7. Yes, 3D sound worked on my rig last time I was logged into the beta server. -
Just patched and logged in: I am also lacking the expected "Claim Additional Server Slots" thing. Maybe it will show up after maintenance tomorrow.

Zeph, "Pinn Badges" is the global I hang out on and there are calls for TFs through the day and night. You'll need to be un-silenced by a channel mod after joining, but that's it.
/It IS Pinn Badges that I hang out on, right? -
Gorram it! I was just home and decided to come back to work! growlgrumblegrowl

It's a wash. Brute WP > Scrapper WP, Scrapper Claws > Brute Claws due to the fury nerf.
However, the differences are slim in actual gameplay. Were I you, I would choose based on which mechanic was more fun for me: Crits or Fury. -
Clobber is currently doing the correct amount of damage for its recharge value as per CoD. KO Blow, on the other hand, is not. But KO Blow is a hold where Clobber is a stun. I've no clue what's going on with repulsing torrent.
-
Freeze Ray and Bitter Freeze Ray are holds though, aren't they? I have no idea how holds are supposed to affect a power's damage value.
KB, on the other hand, doesn't appear to affect a power's damage value. Granted, I haven't looked at this too closely, it was just something that jumped out at me while I was playing my grav/ene dom. -
Ice/Ice blaster is very mean in PvP.
Your spines/regen scrapper, thanks to its ranged attacks should be workable for PvP as long as you get some slow resistance. You shouldn't be having end issues.
Do you have quick recovery slotted with 3 end-mod DOs or basic IOs? Do you have an end-red in each attack? I promise you that it Will feel much different once you hit 22 and slot either SOs or lvl 25 basic IOs. -
Standard PvP answer: Melee is bad for PvP in this game.
Standard PvE answer: There are no sucky scrappers. What have you tried out so far and to what level have you gotten them? Like just about everything else in this game, scrappers don't really feel "right" until level 22 and SOs. -
To further add, I don't see you running into any issues at all later down the road by ignoring the beta registry entries. Just kill the shortcut and the install directory and leave it at that.
-
Manually delete your shortcut, the beta install directory and the associated registry entries pointing to that beta install directory.
If you don't feel comfortable mucking about in the registry, after deleting the shortcut and install directory, use something like Auslogics Registry Cleaner to do it for you. -
Dom energy assault rocks.

So why haven't you gotten Castle to fix the damage on power push yet?

Quote:Nahh, it was quite easy to do in Mids. And it was glorious. Too bad BAB won't let me do it in game. C'mon, BAB, just gimme a shield with some spikes on the front edge...
But then again its hard to come up with a proper Claws/Shield build... -
Quote:As Broken Prey has explained, your understanding of the way tohit and defense work in this game is wrong. This is why you believe what you believe. Not quite. Let's look at this from another perspective.
First guy: 30% defense + 70% damage resistance
Second guy: 45% defense
A critter throws 10 attacks at the first guy, every single one of its attack does 100 points of damage. The first guy will take 7 out of those 10 attacks at 30% of its strength because of his 70% resistance: 7*100*.3 = 210 damage.
A critter throws 10 attacks at the second guy, every single one of its attack also does 100 points of damage. The second guy will take 5 out of those 10 attacks at 100% of its strength (yes, I'm going to bump defense up to 50% here instead of 45%, giving the soft-cap +5% defense so it's easier to calculate): 5*100*1 = 500 damage.
In this case, 30% defense + 70% damage resistance wins by a land slide.
Erroneous data always leads to incorrect assumptions and beliefs. What I showed is factually correct. What you show here is not.
EDIT: If you really wish to know how defense functions, read Arcanaville's Guide to Defense.
EDIT2: I can run my claws/sr at +4/x8 with bosses while solo. If defense were useless I would be unable to do so. -
Quote:/fire is getting a true buff. Are you talking about shadow meld from the crossover PPP? That's only a "buff" if you consider getting the character up to level 43, swapping over to the red side, and running Ghost Widow's arc to be a buff.
Many of the 'softer' sets like /fire, /elec, /dark, etc, are getting a major buff. -
Quote:The devs gave redside brutes and corruptors. Of Course They Love Villains!
and developers love villains -
Hmmm, can I do math on that?
30% defense + 70% dam-res versus 45% defense.
The first guy gets hit 1 out of every 5 attacks for 30% damage.
The second guy gets hit 1 out of every 20 attacks for 100% damage.
So for 20 attacks that do 100 points of damage each:
First guy takes 4*100*.3 = 120 points of damage
Second guy takes 1*100*1 = 100 points of damage
In that particular case, the softcapped defense guy wins. -
Quote:Can I blame people for being wary of what? Can you blame some of us for being wary? The devs don't exactly have a history of exercising a "light touch" when it comes to dolling out nerfs.
Being wary of power level adjustments in general? No, I don't find that unreasonable at all.
Irrationally nay-saying proposed changes from folks that understand the whys and hows of power level adjustments for no other reason but that they understand things and honestly care about game balance? Yes, I find that rather ridiculous.
Would you like to know what I blame the devs for in general and Castle for in particular? Taking too long to make changes that are obviously needed.
