  2. Here's what I have on live right now. The Mids build was wiped out.

From Claws: All but Strike, Eviscerate, Confront
    From SR: All but Elude
    Fitness: Swift, Health, Stamina
    Fighting: Boxing, Tough, Weave
    Speed: Hasten
    Leaping: Combat Jumping, Super Jump
    APP: Conserve Power
    1862.4 HP
    27.47 HP/sec
    Melee Def: 45.83
    Range Def: 45.13
    AoE Def: 45.19
    S/L DamRes: 17.61
    Recovery: 3.56 e/s
    Recharge: 167.5
    Damage Buff: 9.5

This was completed without the use of temps, all AVs taken down without shivs or nukes etc, and we suffered no deaths.
I lift a Guinness to you.

If the higher tier powers no longer required that choice, you'd be getting rid of a necessary balance point to those powers and that is not a good thing.
That's the whole issue right there. I don't see the pre-reqs as a necessary balance point anymore. Not even remotely. Not when I can solo +4/x8 spawns and their bosses.

The OLD balance was lose X amount of effectiveness, say the difference between strike and boxing, in order to add the extra mitigation of tough.

How can that be considered a balance point when I can slam enough recharge, end-reduction and damage buff into my character that I can completely remove both of those attacks from my attack bar, never slotting either of them, and still have a full attack chain dishing out DPS not even dreamed of in the old days?

Does it really matter beyond removing an annoyance at that point?

I'm going to continue taking swift, health and stamina on all of my melee characters regardless of whether the tiers are in place or not. I do realize that many players will take nothing but stamina.

I would never take boxing or kick if I could jump straight to tough/weave. My guess is that this is true for the vast majority of the playerbase.

But I'm left asking, "So what?" What powers will I take instead of the pre-reqs if I'm allowed to do so?

Let's see how many get freed up on my current build:
    Boxing
    Conserve Power (Maybe)

    Ok... that's two.

What can I replace those two powers with? Well, can't be something from a new pool because I'm already using all 4.

    I'll replace CP with PhysPerf.

    Ok, Eviscerate it is.

So for my ENTIRE build, the complete removal of the pre-reqs from all pools lets me get a third AoE and PP instead of CP. Too bad I don't have any more slots on the character. I didn't have any extras placed in either CP or boxing. I'll have to rebuild from scratch and LOSE effectiveness in other powers in order to buff the new ones.

The balance is in the number of slots we get and the number of powers we get to choose. Pre-reqs I can only consider a balance point for a game that no longer is the game we currently play.

I was just having that argument with myself and decided I was wrong. Meaning that you're also wrong.

The original balance structure of the game didn't include levels 41-50.

It didn't include APPs. It didn't include IOs.

While I completely agree that at one time the devs probably wanted us to, for example, replace a primary power with boxing which would lower our damage output in order to increase our mitigation, that bit of balance flies out the window in the face of the extra damage AND mitigation we can now get at level 50 and tweaked up.

Once upon a time it made sense to take hover for combat flight. That was back when fly's end cost was vastly higher than it is now.

Back then the devs gave absolutely no thought to redraw and cast times. Now we've had entire sets restructured BASED on cast times.

So, yes, the tiers had a point when the game was young. It's not the same game. Now the only outcome of tiers in power pools is annoyance.

And like so many other annoyances of the past, this one as well should be done away with.

Leave the level requirements in place. No tough until 14. No weave until 20. No fly until 14 unless you've got the 60 month vet reward.

Having to waste a power pick on a power that you never slot and delete from your power trays is bad design when placed up against the realities of the game as it is Now.

EDIT: And we'd STILL be locked into 4 basic pools and 1 app/ppp. Want fly, cj, tough, stamina and maneuvers? Tough. You only get 4.

Gahhh, I've been locked on tanks.... our offense is spread!

    FOCUS ON TANKS!!!!

Then we'll take out the others!

    muuhahahhaah
  7. For soloing? Scrapper. The extra mitigation provided by the tank doesn't come close to the extra damage from being a scrapper.
  8. Just so ya know... I get blindingly frustrated every single time I decide to respec my claws/sr again.

There's a reason I'm pushing to get the devs to drop the pre-reqs for power pools. If I could take tough/weave without boxing/kick, I'd be one happy scrapper.
  9. Lucky also grants 1/3rd of your passive scaling dam-res. If you're going to drop a power from SR, it should be elude and That should only happen after you've got the IOs in place to soft-cap your defense.

If we could take physical perfection without having to take conserve power or focused accuracy, I'd be all over it.

Since I currently have conserve power as a replacement for elude, I'd like to fit PhysPerf in, but have no clue what I could possibly drop.

While LBE does fit your theme, be aware that it does cause tou to redraw claws. Not a big deal if you're just using it for runners, very much a big deal if you were planning to use it as part of your attack chain.

You would probably be better off sticking a stealth IO in a movement power rather than taking the power Stealth. Remember that half of Stealth's defense goes away in combat. You can soft cap in other ways.
  10. Shred,

I have looked at that chain. I don't have that spreadsheet in front of me but it was still less than the FU, Slash, Focus, Strike chain which in turn is less than the seemingly impossible FU, Slash, Focus chain. (This is not actually impossible... it's just that the build needed to make it happen has some serious problems.)

Complete side note here: I'm currently working on a monster spread sheet for brute/scrapper claws. There's several reasons for this but once it's all said and done, it should have enough info in it that anyone can use it to get data on whatever they need to concerning claws. I'll probably add the stalker numbers as well.

Don't expect it until after I-16 go live, though.
  11. On the one hand, I hate eviscerate because the animation is long and looks stupid.

On the other hand, it does very nice damage, has a 15% chance to crit all the time, and can be used in conjunction with spin to decimate spawns in short order.

As I'll be using my main to run scanner missions in PI set at +4/x8 as soon as I-16 goes live, I kinda wish I had room for eviscerate. As it is, I just don't.

Luckily, +4s only get knocked down with shockwave instead of knocked back.

And for the record, ALL new claws users I build take swipe, strike, slash, spin and followup. It's not til later that I respec out of strike or swipe.
  12. Keep this in mind, though:

Being sexy may very well be more important to your survival than a few DPS. Strike is an ugly power with an ugly pause on the end of it. Swipe is pure and smooth and glorious.
  13. That was me screwing up about swipe and strike, Fantomas. It is most assuredly not the case.

To give an example, I'm looking at a chain with followup, slash, focus, strike. It does 162 DPS. If I replace strike with swipe, not only will I need more recharge in followup, but it drops the DPS to 158.

And it would be pretty silly to skip shockwave on a claws/sr. The mitigation it provides when things get dicey is FAR too high to give up.

I'm staying scrapperlocked on tanks all day.
  15. Gotcha. I may look into that on my next Bill Z build run, but pauses and the sound effect for *not ready* on a power drive me nuts.
  16. Any oddities between my actual pylon times and what I show from my manual calculations have always been easy to explain away as either 5% tohit floor issues or streakiness in proc chances.

so it can actually run the FU>Focus>Slash>Wait
Umbral, how much DPS would you lose by adding in swipe to cover the wait period?
  18. I just checked various brute taunts on City of Data and none of them mention fury.

An oddity I do see listed is "Unknown Null +1" which I have no clue what that might be.

But the fact that the normal "Fury +0.05 If target is a Player, Boss, or better, and Rage < 70% [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]" is not listed with the taunts tells me that, no, brute taunt does not directly generate fury as attacks do.
  19. Yall are gonna make me try to take her down again. Survival wasn't an issue for me. DPS was.

    Vs. Carnies?

Carnies can not drain that which they can not hit.

SR for the win. I LOVE fighting carnies. Mostly because I love the way they scream when they fall.
  21. Logged into PI with BZB, capped at 60 FPS just standing there. Fought a spawn of scientists in the parking lot of Portal Corp, had 1 dip to 50 FPS as I landed and engaged, that lasted less than a second and then stayed capped at 60 FPS while killing them.

Teleported to Pocket D. Had some minor fluctuations as the D rendered while I was jumping around but it settled back to 60 FPS.

Went to FF, same story. Capped at 60 FPS.

I am running the latest Nvidia drivers. I do know that my settings are identical between test and live.

I can not at this time recreate any performance issues on test that I don't already know exist on live.
  22. DG, is this anywhere? I'm logging on to test as soon as it patches.

Yup, useless. Does no damage. Waste of a power pick. Adds no personal mitigation.

Of course if you team with players that can't handle what the game throws at them and are in constant need of having aggro picked off of them, then sure, taunt is a fine crutch for inferior players.
  25. I see it as working for X by proxy. The individuals that provide missions in the rogue isles do so at the say so and leave of Arachnos, and by extension, LR himself.

Taking down the Phalanx or Vindicators benefits Arachnos. Beating up Longbow all day long benefits Arachnos.

Yes, we all get to hand him his head (if you do some work for his henchmen) but in the end, all that you do on the villain side ends up defending the status quo.

But then again, I see our species as working for the tax man and by extension directly serving those in power in real life, so it makes sense that this view would be the same in any virtual world where entities hold power.

<shrug> Not that this matters at all. In the end I'm just in it to smash skulls and slice open bellies.
