Quote:Nice deflection, but that does not change the fact that this MMO is based in a comics-style universe; and comics creators do nothing BUT recon, rewrite and blow **** up in an epic fashion - and they dont care if the fans like it or not, either. An example that comes to mind is Marvel's [fairly] recent doings re Asgard. If something like that was done to this game, you would have a coronary.1. This is not a Comic Book. It's a game, an MMORPG to be exact. There may just be a sliiiight difference between the two, m'kay?
Those of us who actually read comics are used to it. We often dont like it, but we're used to it.
Quote:2. Point out to me where, exactly, I wanted 'NO CHANGE ANYWHERE, AT ANY TIME EVER!' instead of pointing out what, specifically, was bugging me.
Quote:Christ on a cracker, are we STILL doing this, after so damn long? -
Quote:Comic books have been handily rewriting or ignoring canon since well before either of us was even born. This will continue to happen.

And these are often not small rewrites, they are huge, sweeping things that often affect that entire universe.
I wish you well in your quest to make certain this never, ever but never happens again; I cannot help but have an image of Don Quixote tilting at windmills pop into my head, but regardless. I am sure that not only the creators of this game, but all comics creators everywhere will soon bow the knee to your edict of NO CHANGE ANYWHERE, AT ANY TIME EVER!
Good luck wth that one. *gets microwave popcorn out of microwave, settles back to watch*
Meanwhile, these new Skulls look great and I am looking forward to getting my hands on those masks. Cheers! -
Quote:One time my main Tank was going to run a Moonfire. Just before the leader fired up the TF, I discovered that there were not one, but two Storm Controllers on the team. I knew immediately what was going to happen, and I politely bowed out.Same thing happened to me. Joined a team on my TW/WP Brute. Was grouped with a Stormie. Every group of enemies I ran in to:
Gale. Gale. Gale. Gale. Gale. Gale. Gale. Gale.
Asked the guy politely to stop, and that I was capable of tanking it.
"no gale is a power i took it and im gonna use it."
I quit the team. I have a bad habit of kicking people who do stuff like that, ESPECIALLY when they don't stop after being asked.
It was the worst when I teamed with a Blaster who took Bonfire. I was on my Earth/Earth/Ice Dominator.
Quicksand, Earthquake, Volcanic Gasses, Sleet, Ice Storm, Stalagmites, run in with Mud Pots.
Bonfire. Group flies out of the literal death patch I just burned 4 long-recharge powers on and unloads their alpha strike on me.
When I asked the Blaster to please NEVER EVER DO THAT AGAIN EVER, I was kicked from the team. One-starred the team leader and the blaster.
It's always easy to spot the bad players. The SKILLED player would have used Gale to push enemies into the aggro radius of the team tank, or used Bonfire to fend off an ambush while the team mopped up a spawn they just pulled.
I have yet to see anyone, anywhere, redside or blue who used Gale or Hurricane in what I consider a skilled manner. I'm sure they are out there, but they are rare birds indeed.
Bonfire is a very situational power, and wonderful for things like foiling Technicians during the last mish of the STF, or dealing with Imperial Defense while the league is beating down Justin Bieber I MEANT Maelstrom in the courtyard of TPN. Every five minutes, not so much. -
Quote:When you have someone complaining that the racial mix in this game does not meet his specifications [see: discrimination], yes that's pretty much asking for political correctness. PC can take other forms, but that's definitely one of them.
Political correctness has nothing to do with it. Let's not start bandying straw men about.
Asfar as the Skulls talking like Eurotrash, this isnt a huge deal to me. I'm level 1-15 in what feels like ten minutes anyways, me and the Skulls soon part ways. -
One big sign of a bad player is inability to follow directions.
What makes for a skilled player? this question should be pondered by those far wiser than myself, but poor players are easy to spot: they often choose some of the most annoying powersets in the game and completely go Section Eight with them, every time they are on a team. For this reason my melee-ers solo 8/10ths of the time. If I am trying to keep squishies alive, Hurricane is the last damn thing I want to see.
I was trying to level one of my Brutes during the recent double-xp weekend and I got so tired of grouping the NPCs around me, going to town and suddenly *BAM* every one of my targets was suddenly hurled twenty feet away, that I left after two missions. I'm not even sure who was using what power that caused the +KB, it was just awful. -
It would also be nice if the Pocket D "strappy heels" had not only their current metallic incarnation, but a non-shiny variant as well. Matching colors with those things is a nightmare!
p.s. and thanks for fixing the Strappy Heels feet so that they no longer look as if a chimp is wearing them.... those things needed a serious fix! Yay! -
QR: Lord, save us all from a surfeit of political correctness!
Fact is, people tend to hang around with... other people like themselves. Its everywhere, you will see it at work, at the mall, standing in line at the grocery-store: like tends to congregate with like. Of course some cross-pollination goes on, but in general this is what you will see.
Please note that I did not say the following: that people SHOULD hang around with their own kind to the exclusion of all others. They should not be FORCED to keep company with only their own.
But its what you see IRL. There are exceptions, but its what you see, pretty much.
I would find it much more jarring to see every group of NPCs consist strictly of one white guy, one black guy and one Asian guy. Man, what next: are we going to hear complaining about how the Tsoo are not 1/3 black or white or something? Be serious, of course an Asian group is going to have *Asians* in it. Does this mean the Tsoo are eeee-vil racists?
Quote:No one has control over what race your alts are, other than yourself. If you want to see increased ethnic diversity in the game, great. You have the power to create it.Realistic or not, there's that little part of me inside that never can help but think this game's got a HUGE discrepancy between white, Anglo-Saxon (and mostly male) heroes to Ethic criminals and villains. -
The Pocket D hair must STAY, because its perfect for these wannabe-Eurotrash, wannabe-eeeeeeevil doofuses.
And speaking of doofuses, what better than this bunch also latches onto the Fabulous Disaster aka the male Doofus hairstyle? Perfect! [Perhaps CoX's ugliest male hairstyle ever.] -

Quote:*like*Good idea, actually.
Before I post these, I WILL say that I do enjoy the female members and the Death Walker bosses. However, everything else? Pass. I hate the hair, the designer-looking clothes, and the terrible Yakov accents.

These look great, and far superior to the old SKull apprearances. Likelike like. Now please revamp the Family, they need some new Gucci suits or something..... -
Quote:I had no problem with the costume bundles other than a mild grudge that I was being made to pay twice - once for my subscription, and a second price for the costume bundle - but this was largely academic, since I bought almost all of the costume bundles anyways.
Why mess with a formula that works? Because the new one might work better.
They tried it with costume recipes and it didn't work out so, as you say, they changed it so it became irrelevant. Now they've tried it with the super-packs and it works really well, so they're sticking with it.
It is the advent of the shell-game that has me angry.
I really don't care what else they put in the packs, IOs, whatever. I don't like and will never like the *costumes* I need and want being reduced to a game of chance. I think I have been in a casino once in my life, there's a reason for that. -
Quote:NO!!!!!!!!!!!, Wanting a store option is wanting things to have a set price. Buyer pays the set price and then owns the item.
Wanting a store option is basically wanting the costume pack at a discount.
This is an extremely simple concept with zero trickery about it. Item costs x, customer pays x, takes item and keeps it. I simply do not understand why so many people are defending bait and [potential] switch tactics so hard.
Giving people a bunch of inspirations when they are hoping for costume parts is just.... cruel. Put a price on the costume bits and let people have them, this is a system that has worked well for years and NOW, NOW!! they want to start playing a shell-game with the stuff people want most. Say what you want, last time something similar got tried [costume recipies] it ignited an absolute nuclear blast of rage from the playerbase and eventually ended up being redacted out of existance via drop adjustments.
Why do we want to drudge through this tired fight all over again. Costumes are central to this game, if the developers want to start shell-gaming them - then the fallout will be all theirs. And it will be heavy. Tinkering with the costumes in this game particularly is a no-man's land with a landmine every four feet or so. -

Someone else: 3. Brute Primary - TW. TW is just too frigging slow, by the time you've wound up your attack, your target is usually dead from someone else. PLus with the slow speed, hard to get rage up. Quote:Organica: This just makes me laugh.
I am an extremely hard taskmaster [or taskmistress....?], and if I am not feeling the love for a set by no later than level 24, that toon is GONE. I do not PL most of my toons, so I'm out there actually evaluating the set on its merits pre-level 50 IOs. And if it is not good, it is GONE. Because leveling up solo is too much time invested in a character that does not interest me.
Now I am not saying you PL your toons, or that you only evaluate at level 50. Maybe you are more patient than me. But if I don't see potential, EARLY, I am really unforgiving. Just ask anything I ever rolled /sonic. -
Quote:I "underestimate" 'em all the time, since when they join teams I am on, I groan inwardly. Especially when I am on melee.Yeah.. you haven't seen my Peacebringer.
I personally believe the PB's to be one of the best AT when you know how to play it.
2 heals.
2 great melee
1 res toggle
3 good chaining blasts
1 good aoe
1 good pbaoe
1 good cone
Inherit Flight
Photon seekers are beast
Yeah theres more. But, when it comes to pve, i will most likely out dps you.
When it comes to pvp, I will most likely decimate you.
Do not ever underestimate PB's.
I'm honestly glad for you that you are enjoying yours. I think I would rather sit through an IRS audit than try to level one again. The highest I ever got was 24; at that point my patience was exhausted.
Plus I don't PvP, so I'm feeling pretty safe, thanks. -
1. Electric Blast. This is by far the worst set in the game, in my experience. Horrible.
2. Peacebringer/Warshade. No.
3. Beast Mastery. And to think I paid for this hot mess of awful! I'm embarrassed even to think of it.
4. I have tried 3 times to play a Necro MM and I just cannot get past about level 15. Its the incessant fight against what feels like 50 aggro-monkeys.... cool set, I cannot hack it. Which makes me sad. How many pets do you have at level 15? Three...? They act like 50.
5. Spines anything. No.
.... But Claws Stalkers.... are wonderful. There is very, very little my tricked out Claws guy fears. He's a badass. I love him. -
Quote:The same amount I pay for other costume pieces.
Out of curiosity, how much (in points) would you (or other people who dislike the packs) be willing to pay for the costume on it's own?
I don't really like having to pay a sub and pay for costume pieces. However if I can choose what I want and actually get what I want, I'll pony up. Not wild on games of chance. -
General reply: You know, I remember back in the Mists of Prehistory, when the costume packs were first introduced. The argument was thus:
haters: "oh God, here we go. This is the top of the slippery slope, they're starting out small and as we go along more and more stuff is going to be gated by real-world money transactions. GAH"
apologists: "SHUT UP! You know nothing! Our developers would never, ever do that! We're going to get most stuff for free, just every now and then we'll get a special pack. Besides, they're not done yet! This is gonna be awesome, just wait and see what they do!" *insert would-be witty inspirational-poster .jpeg here*
....Well, we have waited and we have seen. And I have to say, I was completely wrong. They WERE NOT done tweaking things. The end-result: Not only do we pay for 98% of the cool stuff.... wait for it..... we're going to have to GAMBLE for it on top of that! ROFL! That is a twist even I didn't foresee, and I'm pretty pessimistic.
I think eventually all new costume pieces will only be available like this. They might throw us a token set of tights every now and then, but the good stuff is gonna be in these packs.
I am all for the company making money, but at some point it just becomes completely undignified money-grubbing and I think gating costume-pieces behind games of chance is it. Sorry, got to call it like I see it. -

Yeah, we all know. You are made of Sheer Win entire. You drip awesomeness like the Fairy Dust aura drips stars; when you fly the awesomeness creates a comet's tail across the skies of Paragon. "Look! Up in the sky! Golden Girl!!!!!!!" *crowd cheers* You're the teacher's pet, the developer's pet, you name it. People follow you around like so many Beast Mastery pets; you're a veritable latter-day Circe.
*insert facepalm smiley here* Righto. -
Time was, Guardian had an excellent and thriving population. That was about two years ago. Nowadays you can't even run iTrials on Guardian because the server population is so low.
I have recently seen three other Guardianites on Virtue, as in they brought their mains to Virtue because you can't get a team on Guardian. This was with no prompting from me btw.... just every now and then, I look up in Dark Astoria and there is another famous face from Guardian standing on the platform in front of the hospital, waiting for their trial to queue.
"Hey, aren't you VeryFamousPlayerWhoKnowsWhatTheyreDoing from Guardian?"
"Yup thats me :-)"
"If I might ask, what happened? Pop too low?"
"That's pretty much it. Server's completely dead."
"Heard that. Anyhoo, welcome to Virtue. Good to see you." etc
Perhaps you run with a very tight and active SG on Guardian. For those of us who dont.....ghost town. *cue tumbleweeds* -
Its not going to take anything, because I moved to Virtue a long time ago. It was a lot of work, not to mention expensive, but I did it.
And I love it there.
Perhaps the worst downside was the naming issue. That was a problem. But being on a server where you can even find a team REDSIDE? Win.
Overall I find Virtue much more congenial than I did Freedom, wich seems to be comprised in large part of kids under 12. No offense, but Freedom is a difficult server to love. -
Quote:Oh really. Noone said aaaannnnyyyything about making him more difficult, it just automagically *happened* somehow. As I was part of the group who was in Beta and going after the Magi trial, this isn't what happened and I wish people would stop regurgitating this stuff as if it were actual fact.
Pretty sure I've read all over these boards that the changes were begged for by the few, the hard, the hard-core.... but ok have it your way. This "never happened."
Until the trial gets nerfed so that progress isn't made unless a complete is achieved, I think I will keep joining farms. When it does get nerfed, I'll adjust my behavior accordingly - and not in the direction of blind obediance. -
Quote:Really? After AE, you are still surprised at farms? This has got to stop. Its not like there aren't people farming this mission...Most the leaders I see are pretty specific about whether its a FULL run or FARM. I mean really, the amount of this behavior has been surprising me, for the COH community. Its not what I expect.
You should be surprised only when people solve problems by NOT farming.
i would actually prefer to complete the trial, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and it looks like farming is the way the people want to go. I am going to hurry up and get my mains' hybrid slots unlocked before a punitive nerf shows up.... and you can bet your bottom dollar one is on its way in double-quick time.
Moral of the story: maybe listening to a few people in Beta begging for the AV to have unstoppable Regen and a perma self-heal [or so it appears] IS NOT that hot of an idea. But what do I know.... -
Quote:Get out of here with your logic and your ability to entertain more than one point of view! That's so not allowed here.I should add one observation about the difficulty of iTrials. Players who have been around in this game for a long time had a pretty long time to run around at level 50 and kind of get used to the difficulty there, and then move up to the newer stuff as an added challenge. Players who have joined us more recently are now moving through the game and hitting incarnate content head on at level 50.
However difficult the STF or LRSF might have once been, in my mind neither of them compares to the crushing brutality of the iTrials on an imperfectly built toon. My brother is a relatively new player who struggled on his way to 50. After a few months of iTrials he recently expressed his desire to quit playing. The reason is not that his team keeps losing. It's that he keeps dying over and over and over and that he is not good enough to contribute anything to the fighting. People call Lambda "easy" but for him it is clerly beyond his current skill level and is basically a death trap.
I think we really need to be careful when we refer to something as "not difficult." Just because a team can carry a trial to victory doesn't mean some team members aren't being annihilated or made to feel sidelined.
That said, I was one of the players who said in the beta the trial was boring. Not "easy" necessarily, but boring. I wish they had made it more thrilling instead of more crushing.
Quote:Issen: You don't need IOs to succeed in iTrials -
Quote:Have run seven of these trials on my main, who is on Virtue, with only one completion. The vast majority of comments I am seeing, both in public and in league chat, are very disappointed with the trial.Hahaha on virtue, two leagues are trying to put together a farm and a full trial at the same time, they are fighting like crazy, getting the wrong people, people are leaving on the real trial and trying to kill the bosses on the farm.
This couldnt be any funnier if it tried.....
I dont even know how the devs came up with this disasterous trial, but its an almost endless source of amusement.
Apologists can say what they want: but with NO OTHER TRIAL have we seen trial "farms" within a few days of release. With no other trial! In fact I am not sure I have EVER seen someone wanting to "farm," say, Underground.
I am not sure the brilliant idea [yes, that was heavy sarcasm you heard] of placing costume components in the trial competion pool is going to achieve the desired result. In fact I can tell you that over here, such a cheap and craptacular tactic would be ignored. Yes really.
I have Hybrid unlocked on my main. It will be a long time - if ever - before I am interested in pursuing the slot on any of my many other level 50s. I am sure some view that as a triumph of trial design - go for it. My 50s have plenty of other things to do, thankfully.
