As others have noted, I never cease to be amazed at the amount of "if you don't like [x], well just leave the game!" we see around here. OMG let's don't ever fix anything, if people don't like it LEAVE and can i have your stuff!!!!
*disgust*
I don't view that as healthy for the game, but obviously mileage varies. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, stop and think about it for a second.
When you first started playing, on your first few characters, wasn't the low level game pretty awesome back then?
I bet it was. I mean, if it wasn't, why would you have kept playing to get to this point?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually the low level game was NOT awesome back in the day; in fact, I was new to MMO play and was seriously thinking, "I dunno if I can do this, maybe I need to cancel" because that Mongoose mission where you take down everyone in the snake-goddess Temple room was giving me fits.... and I had to run all the way back across Mercy every time it "fitted' me. [So to speak.]
I eventually figured out how to pull on my own, and began to actually progress. But no, I did not zone in and go "HOW AWESOME!" I was motivated to make it work, and kept trying till it did.
An entirely different premise. Nowadays of course the low level game makes me want to gouge my own eyes out, I've seen it so much. Or maybe I'm blueside and just avoiding the low level game altogether! Still not awesome. -

If you [general you] cannot create your artwork without a battery backup, this is the very definition of a crutch.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's being prepared in case of emergency. I'm assuming your instructor used things like electric lighting while teaching the class? One could always go out and live on an Amish farm if avoiding the crutches of modern living was a priority.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, my artwork would not exist without paper, so I am uncertain that this analogy holds; but I for one could, without question, create artwork without benefit of electric light. In fact I often do; nothing clarifies color like light from a north window.
I think qualifying people who don't want to go digital as "Amish" is where we jump the proverbial shark, and where I bow out of the conversation as this little exchange is in danger of devolving into a serious flamewar.
Amish and lovin' it... I guess:

what I said is I believe it is beneficial to have a grounding in traditional art. I should have been more specific, What i meant was, A person interested in creating art should be able to draw with pencil and paper, before they jump on a tablet. because it is infinitely easier to use a computer for art then traditional means.
[/ QUOTE ]
What our college art instructor told us was the same thing: because what if you have a deadline and the power is off, and it stays off...? You'd BETTER be able to do it by hand, and youu'd better be able to do it right if you got a lot of money on the line.
She also said that she was being told by a lot of students, "You oughtta see what i can do on Photoshop! I'm a whiz on Photoshop!" She said she wasn't interested in that; she wanted us to do our work by hand. Because these computer programs were fun... but they are also good servants/bad masters.
I have been in other art forums where the mere mention of such facts infuriates digital artists to no end. But art was arond for millennia before Photoshop, and for me there the matter rests: you don't need it to be a good artist.
But the perception now is 100% opposite: if you don't have Photoshop, well.... you suck. And that is sad.
[ QUOTE ]
Judgement: But it is true that kids who express themselves artistically will take to this medium like second nature. Just look at the amount of under 21 talent on DA from areas like Malaysia, India, the Philippines, Korea, Romania, Mexico, and of course the US. Girls too!
[/ QUOTE ]
....These places lack pencils and paper, so these people could not be artists until now..?! See this is where I get confused: WHY does it take a computer program to be an artist? An artist will find a medium and get to work; that's what they do. It does not have to be a high-tech medium, either.

I also want to give a shout out to good paper, because I really struggle with finding the right tooth for proper pencilling and inking. I like a fairly soft tooth for a pencil drawing surface, which is always disastrous when it's time to ink. I'm working on forcing myself to get used to some softer leads, but a lifetime of using nothing darker than a 2B (unless I'm doing a full-on rendering with shading and all) ever is hard to leave behind.
[/ QUOTE ]
I use cold-press watercolor paper. It is not cheap, but you get excellent and sturdy results; I am painting on top of the inks, and so I need a paper that is going to stand up to that. If you're not painting, it may not be for you. But I like it.
As for Sharpies.... truly, one would be justified in saying "LOLSharpies." The problem when using these things for inking is that you are not going to get the extreme clarity of detail that you would get with a traditional ink pen [or those mournfully expensive and quick-to-dry-up Rapidographs], because of the felt tip. The ink is about half as black as India ink, they are just substandard all 'round. -
[ QUOTE ]
the only reason I can see that someone serious about there comic art would be against inking is if they cant be bothered learning how to do it properly and I could understand the reason why, That Sh*t is hard to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its not hard to do, just extremely tedious.
I am currently weaning myself off of my beloved Rapidograph pens [no longer avaliable in my area + extremely expensive] and inking via traditional pen is.... yeesh. To me, the worst is that now I have to be really careful about stray drops falling off the nib at any moment.
But skip inking? No way. I am one of those hard-core, do-it-by-hand types anyways. Or perhaps its just that I cant afford to drop $500 on Photoshop just now. -

...in fact I can safely say that none of my characters are gender-curious...
[/ QUOTE ]
You know, I've seen this reaction from a couple people and while I can also safely say that none of my characters are gender curious either, there are a few uses that hit me right off the bat that don't involve gender-bending:
1) You could effective play a chain of legacy characters with a single slot regardless of sex and/or size.
2) A Deadman homage that has to possess the bodies of ordinary people to interact with the world can now mix it up a little. I wanted to do something like this a year ago but the turn-off for me was that the civilian costumes would have had to be all male and roughly the same height. No longer a problem.
3) If you are unhappy with your choice of sex for a character, you can effectively re-roll without losing a level. Granted, I don't think I've ever done this one myself but I've known a few people who have...so I think it's a great use of the feature.
Anyway, to each his own. I just wanted to say a bit about the preconception that some people seem to have that the gender changing thing has to be sexualized. While I'm sure that some ERPer will use it in a way that will make me want to wash my eyeballs, I think there is some good clean fun to be had as well.

Bad, you're not down for this one? I can agree that the costumes are pretty narrow conceptually but the costume change emotes and the Super Tailor feature would be worth the booster pack price even if there wasn't a single costume to be had. It remains to be seen what will make it live but this is probably my favorite booster yet.

Neither the costume change emotes or the sex-change thingy are interesting enough to get me to shell out; in fact I can safely say that none of my characters are gender-curiousA few pairs of the goggles are pretty cool, but not ten dollars worth of cool.
Not to mention, how in blazes can there NOT be a bubble helmet in there!?? no bubble helmet in the Science pack, truly, wth? or a HazMat suit helmet, or perhaps an entire Hazmat suit?! But I digress.
That is just me tho; those of you who want this, enjoy. -

At a total guess, I'd say we're more likely to get an option "Turn off other player's power customization", than to get "remove buff".

Not too long ago I was on a team and had the Tower cast on me three times in a row. About 20 minutes later:
Some idiot: Want Fortune?
Me: No thanks, I have seen the Tower enough for one evening ty
Some idiot: HAHAHAHA! TOO BAD! *casts Fortune*
Bad: *declines fortune*
Pretty damn sweet, I say. I'd like to foil idiots like that more often. -

[/ QUOTE ]
No. I have two people who need to run one in order to get the Rulaaru weapons, but I have honestly never even seen a request to join one of these TFs in Broadcast. All SGs I am part of are far too busy running the ITF to consider it, I guess; I would lobby to change that, but the idea of a 12-hr TF makes my teeth hurt. -

This thread is really about the fact that the Positron TF is, at least as far as design goes, truly the definition of... yeah, failure at having fun.

No, it isn't. If it was, the thread would be "The Posi TF sucks. What can we do to make it better?" or "I think the Posi TF sucks. Does anyone like it, and if so, why?"

Can anything scream 'ATTENTION W**RE!!" more loudly?
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, irony. You are thick today.
[/ QUOTE ] Good point. Starting this thread is up there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps you should move this sentiment over to the thread where people are posting their cleavage in attempts to get attention; this thread is very small potatos in comparison.
I didn't create the thread in order to discuss myself, post pictures of my cleavage or announce to the forums that I have a list of who likes me, who hates me and who is indifferent to me; I leave such balderdash to Phailed_Komedian. [It would not surprise me in the least were he to post pictures of HIS cleavage in order to stir the Haterade a bit.... but I digress].
This thread is really about the fact that the Positron TF is, at least as far as design goes, truly the definition of... yeah, failure at having fun. And that's all it is. I have heard about this TF for years, and it really is a badly-designed snoozefest. -
QR: [snip the usual PK posturing for attention]
PK, I see you have a list of who does and does not like you on the forums. This is simply adorable! Can anything scream 'ATTENTION W**RE!!" more loudly?...? If so, I am certain you will find it.
You should be like me, PK. I have a literal metric crapton of people who would happily see me flayed alive on these forums. Do I make a list? Do I wonder exactly how many there are...? No! I don't make lists because frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.
Only when you can cultivate the same magnificent indifference to public opinion can you truly aspire to become infamous. Until then, you're a wannabe.
Back on track: we finished Positron in two hours and I came out of that with [I'm pretty sure] 71 merits. Merits and the badge were why I did it.... but its still pretty damn boring. That is its worst failing: not that its so long, but that you are bored to death while earning said merits.

I want to dazzle the enemy with my supreme costumeicity.
NO to paying for more costume slots [I think we have more than enough pay-per-use stuff as it is], YES to being able to earn them somehow.
Right about now some crank is going to weigh in with "but my hero only ever needs one slot, so no to this, we don't need more slots." People who do not want or need the extra slot would be free to not use them; no one would be harmed.

I think that we are very close to i15 going live; which given the state of the Reischmann TF/SF, is really not all that great of a piece of news. They may be thinking that the longer they wait, the angrier people are going to be about 95[?] badges getting stripped, and that is a reasonable fear: that people are really gonna be angry.
I will be immensely shocked if we see i16 before November, since this is alleged to be a huge issue. My money is on Rogue early in 2010, at the earliest. -

Close observation reveals that not only are the gloves and boots covered with multicolored lace, the collar and cuffs are also made of white lace. NOT. HAPPENING.I refuse to try and render ruffled white lace.
