    Remove AE!

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm virulently anti-farmer at this point and I think Farming needs to be stopped as quickly as possible and as much as possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Alt, this is never going to happen. It is in fact not even possible.

When you finally find that perfect MMORPG with NO farming anywhere at any time, please do pop back in and let us know which one it is. I think we will be waiting a while, since my understanding is that in other MMOs, farming is much worse than it is in CoX.

Good luck tilting at windmills, Don Quixote.

    Remove AE!

Sometimes the following will work: want to form a TF or regular misison team? No problem.

Go to Atlas. Broadcast: "Regular mission team forming levels 12-15, give me a shout if you want invite."

You will probably be surprised at how many people who are bored of standing around trying to get onto an AE farm will respond. This also works well for upper-level task forces.

It is true that forming a regular team in your zone of choice is going to be tough these days. So don't. Go to Atlas, the *only* zone in the entire blueside game now.

[And yes, I view that as a problem but we have other threads devoted to that]
  3. [ QUOTE ]
What i dont agree is the "they need to learn". Nobody needs to do anything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am sorry, they DO need to learn. Not knowing how to play the game is going to create friction between know-nothing AE babies and veteran players, when these two try to team. This is actually happening now.

This is like saying people who want to play a card game can just sit down with card-sharks and start playing without knowing the rules, because its all entertainment and who needs to learn about entertainment...? Do you think this would be an enjoyable experience for the card-table newbies? Do you think they'd be welcome at the card-table? Do you think the card-sharks are going to be all patient and helpful and hold their hands through the game? they might be.... some of them.

I damn sure wouldn't bet a dollar on it.

    [ QUOTE ]
Its the attitude of some people, always trying to say that theirs is the only truth, and that their vision of the game is sacred and cant be stained by the AE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't want my game "stained" by the ignorance of level 50 AE babies. Evidently that's where you and I differ.

Teaming with these people is NOT ENJOYABLE.

    [ QUOTE ]
Co-op is not overdone, and there are only two Co-op zones/TFs in this game.

If anything I WANT SUM MO, I WANT SUM MO!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm actually kinda tired of heroes and villains being all chummy. I'd like to see things where we have PVE vs PVE, much like the battle zones in Siren's Call, but not necessarily PVP. Task forces that counter each other (via Oroborous for example) as villains do X and Heroes try to undo it, giving nice rewards to wresting control from one side or the other.

I want to see COMPETITIVE zones. It can't be that hard to do without resorting to lolpvp.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This would be extremely interesting to see and take part in; I would totally be there.

Do we really have to keep referencing this man's mental state? It's doing nothing for the conversation and sounds like a cop out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its far from a cop-out, look at what he is saying.

His mental state has everything to do with this issue; accusations take on an entirely different flavor when the person making them is unbalanced. My off-the-cuff, non-MD assessment is that I'm wondering if this guy does not have Antisocial Personality Disorder. His behavior looks an awful lot like it.

If he actually is unbalanced, then what he is doing is blaming gamers for his own personality faults. That's pretty serious when you think about it.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Scanner missions, to me, are just as boring as people attempting to run farms.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know what REALLY bores me? Lowbies trying to run level 54 boss farms. It takes 5 minutes to kill one NPC and its nothing but wipe after wipe. And we got 500 NPCs to kill...

These farms are like trying to kill 500 rhinoceroses with toothpicks. I would 1000 times rather run a 'boring" scanner or newspaper, get my xp, get my end-bonus and move on to the next.

At least scanners mix up the NPCs too. AE stuff? the Boomtown map covered with 500 of the same scantily-clad female Dual Blader - the exact same one. Same costume. Same hair. Same everything. BORING! Scanners are a relief in comparison.

  8. [ QUOTE ]
My feeling is that any solution has to take into account one thing: The devs want the player to be able to level 1-50 in the MA.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would be interesting to know what the developers really think of this statement in retrospect.

I would not be one bit surprised to find out by dint of future game-changes that they've had second thoughts about that, since its creating problems for new players as in, lack of knowledge. You know those changes.... when they change stuff without exactly stating WHY it was changed, but anyone with functional grey-matter can figure it out.

I think veteran players deciding to level 1-50 in MA is their business. But its not just veterans, suddenly every last character in the game has GOT to run only MA, all the time.

Was on a mid-teens mission team in Steel the other day, we were running scanners. We had several people come in and leave after they found out this was not a MA team.

"Let's go over to AE and do some mishes there!"

"Man, *boring*. We're doing scanners today."

"I am so worn out with AE, I hate it now!"

"Please lets just keep doing scanners, leader."

"I really don't want to run AE. Anyone who does, this isnt the team for you - thanks tho."

new person: "LOL ok thanks for invite, going to AE." *quit*

Then we would replace that person with someone else who usually said a variant of, "We're not in AE? THANK YOU GOD I am so frakkin' SICK of AE I could scream! Yay!"

Then we went off and much leveling fun was had by all. I think a lot of new players are missing this...

    [/ QUOTE ]

This was not trolling, nor malicious? Was this also part of RPing Twixt?

    [/ QUOTE ]

lol that's me. My farming toon in RV was Ka Faraq Gatri. He use to get SO angry that 99% of the reds in RV left me alone because I was only there to farm NPC's. The majourity of villains that played in RV were my friends and as such would let me do my thing. Twixt hated this and would go out of his way to grief me and insult me in broadcast.

Half the time I just ignored him but every once in a while I would toss out a comment just to further frustrate him. Eventually he realized he wasn't getting to me and that no matter what he did he couldn't persuade the villains in the zone to attack me so he actually put ME on ignore lol Clearly this was part of his 'research' or something. I'm dismayed I was never mentioned in his 'report'

    [/ QUOTE ]

I missed this quotation somehow. Wow. With one sentence this Twixt invalidated his entire thesis. You don't get to verbally provoke people like that and then cry foul when they retaliate in any of 1000 ways.

Between this and the actual paper, I am beginning to wonder about this guy's mental status. He really does seem to have issues; these do not strike me as the words or actions of someone who is quite right in the head, when you look at them closely.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
    1. Remove auto-SK. Not a perfect solution but it'll lower AE farms to the efficiency of any other farm in the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes folks, it is with great reluctance that I admit that we have actually reached this point.

Auto SK is BREEDING STUPIDITY wholesale amongst newer players.

Seen last night on a team: a level 47 Tanker who was actually doing... not too bad.

teamate 1: Hey 47Tanker [not his real name], you hold aggro really well, nice job.

    47Tanker: LoL whut's aggro?

    *headdesk*

As far as removing the AEs from Mercy and Port Oakes, we can do that - but the problem is that, well, AE farming is not a problem redside, and especially not in those zones. I am sure it happens some; but it is not the swarming anthive of PLing that we see in Atlas.

In fact redside could almost use extra incentives to get players over there, but I digress. The auto-SK feature does need to be removed; people farmed just fine under the old SK system and the same could hold true for the MA. These extreme rewards have got to go, and I am worn out with the concept of level 2s being able to pick up level 54 boss farms and thinking this is going to work. This is a tool that they lack the skill to wield.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
If you were going to change things about the zones, what would you do?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The zones don't need to be changed, the players do.

If any new player would bother to read their mission text they'd realize there was more to the game than AP and AE. If they'd bother to look at the map and click the other tab they'd see there's more than one zone. Taking the AE out of AP won't fix stupid or lazy, but hey, they could take AE out of every zone for all I care.

Me, I'm going to CO when it comes out. Whether it sucks or not, at least it won't have AE and all the B.S. that seems to have accompanied it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hate the way their characters look so much, though. Really hate how they're shaded, dont know if I could tolerate that.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
And I meant REMOVED FROM YOUR COSTUME, I would think that would be obvious.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm having trouble picturing how they could datamine 5 costumes each on eleventy-million player characters... but ok.

Glad to hear the drones are being fixed, because they are seriously annoying.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I wish they would increase the minimums a bit..I made some cool costumes that way and it sucks that I can't change them now that I want to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well as someone who plays on an older computer, I'm glad the devs don't agree with you. Sorry, you took advantage of a bug; not with malicious intent, and not to gain an unfair advantage, but it was a bug nonetheless. So just be glad that the invalid costume pieces weren't simply removed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

... Remove "invalid" costume pieces that people PAID for?! Katie Hannon, bar the door! Imagine the screaming. [I would be one of the ones screaming, too].

I don't know, I question how horrible this "bug" is when nowadays we have rikti drones exploding ten times and creating a metric crapton of debris all over the landscape, and no one is doing anything about that...that seems way crashier than someone wearing a trench with wings, but what do I know.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Replace the AE building with a public library where patrons can read help-files and how-tos.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just imaginging the player response to that makes me laugh, although I think its a good idea. It would be like replacing a little kid's pizza and ice cream with broccoli and raw carrots: here come the tantrums. LOL!
  15. I doubt that just pulling it out of Atlas will do it; the lowbies will simply move to other lowbie zones.

At least in Steel a level 1 is going to encounter problems getting around unless they have a pal with tp. It's that risk vs. reward thing: with AE in the lowbie zones, they have big rewards with NO risk.

I say let's make them work for it a bit, like when they had to hike that level 2 all the way to PI. Let's give lowbies incentive to stay in Atlas and learn how to play a bit. They in no way, shape or form NEED to have an accessible AE building - in fact that is way too much temptation for them to withstand.
  16. General reply:

The ITF is certainly more bearable than the Reischmann one, among others. It has its downsides though. The second mission with the Cysts is one of my least favorite missions in all of CoX. That mission bores the crap out of me every time.

I was on a team once that stealth-ran that mission. I have no idea how they did it; the two Tanks told the rest of us to wait at the door and two minutes later, BAM mission complete. It was wonderful.

I'm guessing Invis and teleport had something to do with that
  17. AE buildings out of Atlas, Galaxy and King's Row, yesterday.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
This is all off-topic, but the TF, or the SF?

Because I see people forming the TF pretty frequently on the global channels I monitor and it's been called "the new Katie" at least once due to the ability to speedrun it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The TF, because I am blueside 70% of the time these days.

I have no doubt that there are players here and there farming Reischmann. I think that is quite a bit rarer than ITF farms, however, because I'm not seeing the completion badge on people's badge sheets; and I am seeing [for instance] the completion badges/costume pieces for the ITF literally everywhere I look. The ITF has of course been with us longer, but still.

All I know is that 100% Lethal resistance [or whatever] means my Scrappers will be seeking their fun elsewhere.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I've done the LGTF plenty of times over the past couple years, but he has never been this much of a problem before. Is this a bug? Is he supposed to be able to use Unstoppable that often, that quickly? What the frak?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Although it is never gonna happen, it would be very, very interesting to see datamining concerning how often the Reischmann TF is actually being run. Right now, I'm thinking "Comparatively not much, probably."

All the time I get this:

    "Hey wanna run ITF?"

    "STF forming, want in?

"Lady Grey forming, want in?" [and dammit, this ALWAYS happens when I have NO time to devote to a TF.... oh well, one day....]

    "You in for KHTF?"

    "How 'bout a SpeedEden?"

I go to Cimerora: most of the time there is a team idled near the ITF contact, waiting for someone to zone in. Or its "ITF want in...?" there too. ITF every day, all the time.

Teams spotted at the Reischmann contact in FF 3+ days after i15 hits: 0. All night, every night. On both servers I frequent heavily, no one is trying to form this TF. No one /tells me asking if I want in. I am uncertain I have ever actually even seen the badge on anyone's badge-sheet when I'm looking over their info! I am 100% serious when I say that I do not ever think I have actually seen it on someone else's badge sheet.

I know that this TF has been run successfully by a few, that isn't my point. But what the anecdotal evidence looks like from over here is that interest in this brand-spankin'-new TF is minimal at best, due to its bad reputation. This seems like an extremely serious design-flaw as well as a waste of developmental time to me, but what do I know.

I do know that until this TF/SF's multiple issues have been addressed somehow, I have no interest in running it. It would be interesting to know how many others feel similarly. We won't ever know, but it would be interesting. It seems like you better bring eight Rad/rads or expect the consequences.

The salient point here is that PostKount is posting threads mentioning me [and others], not the other way around. This leads the impartial observer to believe that perhaps he cares more about the opinions of those people, than they do about him.

Ah, The Thing. That WAS pretty bad... would make a great basis for a single-player game. I think something like this would be way, way too scary for CoX though, which is very mild scare-wise.

I would really like to see scarier monsters in CoX, and I don't see how that would affect a "teen" rating - teenagers are not exactly wrapped in cotton wool these days as far as media exposure. It often seems to me that CoX's "teen" rating is actually "child-friendly," they just don't want to up and admit that. I mean, c'mon.... those Warwolves and Vampyres are about as scary as Barney the Dinosaur.
