Quote:Sure doesn't... it deserves a WORSE reputation than it hasI've done Quaterfield at least 8 times (it could quite possibly be more) and can honestly say that it doesn't deserve quite the reputation it has.
Quote:I find it truly sad that the most original and interesting content in the entire game is seen by so few people.
I recently ran Dr. Q for the 1st time on my badge-hound Dark Defender and I can honestly say that this is the worst, most boring, stupidest TF EVER, and given the zone that it is in, this is a crying shame. Even Positron was not this bad! But it was amusing in this one way: while waiting around for what seemed like forever for the leader to call in the next mission, I had said Defender standing around on one of the "crown" pieces on top of the Storm Palace, taking screenshots. "Wow, I am as far from Atlas Park as its almost possible to get," I thought. "It's so cool out here."
Me, in team-chat: "What do you want to bet, the next mission is going to send us to Perez Park."
Where do you think the next mission happened to be...? Classic. -
Quote:I just find it amusing that there has been this level of flap over the Mystic Fortune prompt, when so many people scream "shut up!" so loudly anytime anyone else asks for a prompt for other stuff.sheesh. Get over yourself. Some people dislike the prompt. You're the one trying to make it a referendum on coolness or something.
I think the shouters should take their own advice, given in other "can we have a prompt or an accept/decline for [x]?" threads, and "adapt!" LOL -
Quote:My point was this: that Speed Boost is a far, far greater annoyance to some people than Mystic Fortune could ever be, yet that was angrily dismissed as being an unworthwhile complaint - while one little prompt is being hailed as The Worst Thing Ever, and a thing some people just cannot work around.
Lilly: I like Mystic Fortune, just not the prompt. However, unlike Speed Boost, the issue with the annoyance is the UI, not the power. Hence the request for change, an alternative to please everyone. You can't do that with Speed boost because getting rid of the +speed with tick someone off whether it was intended or not.
I prefer the prompt. This prevents me from getting bad fortunes multiple times in a row [happens, unfortunately]. The prompt does not interfere with my combat, taking less than one second to click.
I am 100% fine with an accept/decline option being added for Mystic Fortune. I am just amused that some of the "superior reflexes" crowd is now howling that OMG, clicking a little box in the middle of combat is breaking their game. Haha! That does not sound too superior to me -
Quick reply:
I find all this somewhat amusing, having been a veteran of many anti-SB campaigns here in the past. During those, we had what felt like 500 people posting very vituperative variants of the following:
"OMG! Is there something wrong with you who don't like SB? Are you retarded [yup... this has actually been said]? Do you have [insert physical ailment here]? Obviously you are/do, because only an idiot could fail to adapt to SB! There is simply nothing to it! ADAPT!! Why are you whining EVERYONE STOP WHINING! If you don't like SB you are obviously [insert expletives, flames and negative concepts here]! Plus you are OBVIOUSLY trying to run the game on a Commodore 64! You're just stupid. PLUS YOUR HANDS DON'T WORK RIGHT! Learn to ADAPT!"
Many things just that mean, and worse, were flung at people who are guilty of the high crime of not wanting to be SBed in cave, or not wanting to be SBed while standing at the market bidding on an Alchemical Silver.
Now we have people having to deal with one little prompt. Many of this exact same group are now all, "OMG we have a prompt and I can't deal with it! Its making me lag! Its getting me killed! Oh no no no! Make it stop!"
What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander: I say unto thee, Adapt. -
Quote:I think this is the core of the problem for me: that especially in the lower level game, it is so very widespread. Council Grenade people? Check. Family gunners? Check. Force Mages? Check. Hellion [or is it Skull? Or both?] Buckshot people? Check. Its just all over the place.[...] It would also make more sense if fewer mobs did it (just bosses, monsters, etc. doing it... or something). It's pretty good in game and I love it, but there is room for improvement.
If it were only bosses, or only giant monsters or or both, it would be much more bearable but it feels like every 3rd NPC has it. This is much less of an issue now that we can mail stuff to ourselves - and prior to that, I was just getting a friend to mule the IO over for me, so it wasn't insurmountable even then - but the amount that is in there now just feels spammy.
Quote:Electric: Well, "Epic" has many forms! Not always positive! Mileage will vary.
-
... So epic, that a few months back I deleted an Energy Corr who was... level 38, I think. Or 39... I got tired of not being able to use her primary on teams, without stopping to triangulate exactly where her target would end up in relation to whatever melee'er was holding the aggro. I'll miss her; but I won't miss this headache.
KB is epic. So epic, that the first thing I do for many characters is have a higher-level sibling craft them a -KB IO. Nothing is more fun for me than a sewer full of Council spamming KB, at level 10 or whatever! Well, the only thing more fun is a Storm person running amok without a care in the world as to what it is their powers actually DO, but its a near thing.
Makes me thankful for IOs, yes it does. -
Quote:I doubt if "they" would tell me if closed beta had already happened[? eh?], and no I would not get mad - nor does it matter - because I rarely test anything on beta that is not cosmetic; I don't want to spoil new content before I even GET the new contect.Originally Posted by DaemonicVisionsWhat if it already happened? would they tell you? would you get mad?
Does it really matter? I mean come on..it's BETA!!
I'll go look at costumes and powersets prior to release. I am not running all the new content mission-wise before it hits Live; that's just how I roll. -
Quote:Visions, the thread exists because people wanted to discuss wave 2 of closed beta.
Now the big question is...
Why does this thread exist?
EDIT:
Quote:Everything is about profit folks, the greater good, over what you desire to be a lesser evil, all for oneself, as you and other parish from what you have done... -
Quote:Agree or disagree with the rest of what he has posted, I can't help but feel the same; I have an extraordinarily low tolerance for being told to bow the neck to someone else, just because I "should." I decide for myself if they're truly worthy of that much kudos. If they are, cool - but if not they don't get a free pass just because their friends are telling all and sundry, "RESPECT MAH FRIEND!" [This also applies to Visions here; is he really a genius? We shall see.][...] but seeing 3-4 posts of "Bow Down to Arcania" makes me shug and think still people just are destined to be drones...but that's just me, don't take my word on it..
Enjoyed the "insuperior" yet "genorus" [?...? was that how it was spelled?] pic mentioning "sexual incounters," whatever those might be - but probably not for the reason intended. -
Quote:Having seen multiple mentions of Secondary Mutation here and there as being possibly problematic, I finally went out and actually looked up what Secondary Mutation has the possibility to do. [I buy these packs for the costume stuff, not the powers or emotes and so was blissfully unaware till now].You're right (could have sworn it triggered on me more than once during a mission)... but it still doesn't change my statement that I would probably not add a power that could cause me to lose access to my powers temporarily to my tray much like how I always remove Self Destruct when I make a new character (and I don't understand why Self Destruct would ever auto-add to a new character; that should be set to manual add to power tray, to be honest).
Ashes to ashes,
Pheonyx
I am another one who immediately pulls Self Destruct out of my trays upon rolling up a new character. I have... NO desire to blow myself up; that's just me.
I have even less of a desire to become a Rikti Monkey, even for 1 minute. I know someone on the development team thinks this sort of thing is cute and funny, and I am sure many agree. But I'd just as soon not.
[Kinda like how I stopped using Alakazamreact when it stopped turning you into a pumpkin and started turning you into a lamp, a desk or a refrigerator.... being a pumpkin was funny, but being a lamp is just stupid. Wouldn't go as far as to call the Rikti Monkey "stupid" but I don't find the idea fun at all. Especially if my powers are gone at the time.] -
Quote:As long as we can get Bioluminescent on Tights, I will be content. A skin option on the Armor would be really nice right now, I admit it. But the dealbreaker for me would be Bioluminescent with the skin option it has now ONLY.In regards to skin on Org. Armor: it'll have to wait for the moment, but it's something we'd like to do.
I say "dealbreaker," but I would still buy the pack if only to get my little grubbies on the WINGS. There are other things I want in there as well.... but please make Bioluminescent at least 90% more useful than it will be for a lot of people right now: please make a Tights option. -
Quote:These attempts at apples/oranges arguments are not clarifying matters.Bots/Forcefields Masterminds used to do that to my characters. I don't have protection against them either. Those stupid demons with their stupid roaring also apply a strong annoyance debuff, as do players running Quills at Wentworth's.
So I demand the following prompts:
[Playername] Would like to bring his pets into your vicinity.
Accept/Decline
[Playername] Would like to activate Quills.
Accept/Decline
A MM or someone running Quills does not force someone else's character into a debuff situation merely by showing up and standing next to one at Wentworth's. An icon does not appear in the Temp Powers category with "QUILLS DEBUFF!" on it.
This is an unwinnable debate. I am honestly shocked we don't see more calls for the teleport prompt to be removed. -
Quote:Stealth not only serves as a handy place to stick a -KB proc, it also helps defuse unwanted SB due to its -50%? movement debuff.I must cheerfully assert that Speed Boost applies a mag 1 'You can't play anymore' to my characters, and I haven't found a way of getting any protection against it.
I have a level 50 fire/kin controller. PLaying him to 50 has given me insight into the other side of the SB argument, however I still do not understand what is so difficult about making the gaming experience PLEASANT for declining teammates and not insisting on slamming them. Not doing this goes far toward undoing the "/kins are passive-aggressive morons and I dont like them, so please disable their ability to grief me!" argument, yet this is far too much to ask of many people it seems. It has been so since I have been in the game, and it wont change.
People who do not understand why debuffs are unpleasant for others are not going to "get" it suddenly, trust me. This thread is ample proof of that. We have had many flamewars to the death in the past over this exact issue.
When dogmatism rules ["you will accept my buff OR ELSE!!!! HAHAHAHA"], you suddenly discover the need for a gating procedure. Mystic Fortune is an excellent example. Twenty minutes of an unwanted debuff can seem like an eternity; hell, two minutes of an unwanted "buff" can feel like an eternity. -
As with all booster packs, there is at least one piece per pack that is a must-have for me, and this will justify my purchase of the pack as a whole. In this case it is the new wings; I would buy this pack for them alone.
[The only time this has not held true for me was with the Cyborg pack; still not sure why I bought that thing.]
Concerns here:
1. The Bioluminescent pattern is not avaliable on tights, nor is it tintable apart from the face. Body and face are forced to be the same color. All the time. Ugh. This is a SERIOUS DETRIMENT and will limit my use of this costume by probably 97%. This pattern needs to be a Tights option ASAP.
2. The Organic Armor luminous patches need to be brighter, due to their much smaller size than the luminous patches on Bioluminescent. The tiny patches all but disappear due to dimness.
3. Why is the new female foot model so HUGE....? I thought this problem would be confined to the Witch boot, but I guess not. The male boots look great as usual. The female boots.... not so much.
I agree that the old Stiletto boot form was too tiny, but must we swing quite so far in the other direction....? Better too tiny than too big.
As for animal parts: I am uninterested in creating catgirls, or anyone else who wears allover fur for that matter. That particular issue leaves me colder than a stone. What are seriously needed in another booster are dragon, lizard, cat, dog etc. heads that are NOT the ugliest thing ever possibly dreamed up by an art department; animal heads currently in-game, I am looking at every last one of you fugly things when I say that! PLease include an Egyptian-style canine head, thank you. I want beautiful and dangerous-looking animal-style heads which can be placed on the human tights form.
New, prettier additions to the Monstrous leg form would not come amiss either. I view both the old hooves and the old paws as hideous, something new and useable would be a great deal of fun.
With that said I look forward to using these new pieces in-game, my Mutation Stalker is going to be delirious with joy. -
Quote:You'd have a point if I had ever said this.... which I didn't.
So, wait, alleging that the Devs secretly lowered the drop rates for some esoteric reason and then suggesting when they finally announce that they've actually located the buggy code that they're actually trying to cover up a stealth nerf is not a conspiracy theory?
Quote:Edit: i really find it amusing that BI considers it "dogpiling" any time most others disagree, and definitely not a sign that perhaps most informed players actually know better.
As for "most informed players," unless you and these would-be Champions of the Borked Argument are actually developers yourselves - which I doubt - you are no more "informed" than any other player in the game. We are all out here speculating. Attempting to claim otherwise only earns you my scorn.
But do carry on -
Quote:Funny, I can't hear an accent over the Internet. I didn't even know you were European. This lends zero force to the creedence of your argument, true enough, but still. But obviously you rather make fun of the foreign guy with his funny accent than say something sensible, so I'll leave you be.
My point here is that when you attack other people, you should expect whatever you get in return.
With that said, speaking in general I will point out that dogpiling has never one single time changed my mind on these forums. Never has. Never will. Those thinking it will work this time are doomed to frustration. Sorry. In fact I rather enjoy my status as forum lightning-rod: all I have to do is start typing and people go literally berserk with fury.
Their tears are delicious. -
Quote:Not really sure that recipe drop rates in CoX are anywhere near this dramatic, nor has anyone actually proposed a 'conspiracy theory " in here - least of all me, but go ahead and try to twist the issue; this is an old tactic and....yeah.... its old. Talk about straw men...!The classic cry of the conspiracy theorist when presented with the idea that, say, if you are driven through an underpass in Paris at warp factor eight by a drunk then that is sufficient to explain your subsequent death in a car crash.
"Oh, but it _could_ have been a hit by MI5. We'll never really know!"
They call it "healthy skepticism" for a reason. People who believe everything they hear end up dead by their own hand in a room with a bunch of others, also dead, all wearing the same style tennis-shoes. A comet-"spaceship" swung close to the earth to pick 'em up, you know. So, they had to go. *cue the Star Trek theme*
Riiiiiiiiiiight. That's a dramatic example, but no less so than yours. You don't like my opinion? Cry me a river. -
Quote:.... And you'll get over it! I simply know you will!Strange, this is the same feeling I got when I read some of your posts on this subject...
Being critical of information is necessary, but the rampant amount of paranoya you have displayed over something as minor as this is astonnishing.
People who believe every last thing they're told tend to end up dead under the jungle sun with an empty paper cup fallne near their cold, outstretched hand containing traces of grape kool-aid at the bottom. Or worse. History has shown us this many times.
Luckily this will not occur over anything to do with an MMORPG, but its still bad policy.
But in order to truly, truly insult me you're gonna have to learn to spell better; I simply cannot take a flame like this seriously when it is so badly spelled. Thanks though. -
Quote:Perhaps, we'll never know one way or the other. I hope it is a bug. I really do.Considering Pohsyb clarified that it was an uninitialized data structure in the code, and I've seen uninitialized memory result in random erratic and hard to reproduce bugs like this one about a hundred times in the past, absolutely.
Occam's razor: the bug-in-the-code explanation is simpler and fits the known facts better than the "alternative explanations".
But otherwise, speaking in general the gullibility expressed by many people in these forums amazes me. I honestly wonder if a lot of people here believe every last thing the media tells them; because no one ever, ever fudges the truth, obscures facts, lies, or puts a spin on things, right....? This mindset seems incredibly fatuous to me.
And yet it is strongly endorsed. I can say nothing but "wow" as I back away slowly. -
Quote:If I wanted to be using the word "conspiracy," I'd be using it already. Thanks for the input but I'll decline at this time.
When people say that the devs are collectively lying in order to conceal a secretly implemented plan, that's an accusation of conspiracy.
To hear the likes of you tell it, next we'd be hearing that last fall's economic meltdown was due to a "CONSPIRACY!!!" of banks deciding to let every last schmoe who applied have a million-dollar mortgage with no money down and no background check, either. *eyeroll* Conspiracy and stupid business decisions are not necessarily synonymous, and that goes for developers' decisions as well.
As I have said before, you're gonna believe what you're gonna believe. All I know is that my level 50s are running through entire large maps solo and coming out with vastly reduced rewards. I like to believe what I see with my own eyes. You do what you want. -
Quote:Yes, we saw that the first six times it was posted.A heads up for the people who are too busy spinning conspiracy theories to check the Dev Digest:
Do you really think the developers are 100% transparent when it comes to revealing every last thing they do to the game? If so, you have the right to believe that.
I am also amused at the idea that business decisions are automatically "conspiracies." All times when the game is adjusted to address "balance issues" are "conspiracies"? to hear people like you tell it, yes. The only people shouting "Conspiracy!" are people like you... a business-meeting where developers discuss issues is.... a business-meeting. I doubt they are cackling over their successful plot to assassinate Kennedy while they are in said meetings, but whatev.
Next mentions: "tinfoil hats," Nazis, and a few more reposts of the same link. Business as usual in here....
This attempt to polarize the issue has failed, please drive through. -
First, I have no real idea if they're lying or not. But if so, I wouldnt call this a malicious lie, but a "we've got to try to at least maintain the status quo" sort of lie.
Here's the foundation problem: we have read flaming thread after flaming thread where skilled players here have, with much chest-beating proclaimed "YOU, the scuzzy UNWASHED MASSES! Do NOT need purples. I know you THINK you do, but you DON'T. Rare recipes are the EXCLUSIVE PRESERVE of the ELITE GAMER otherwise known as ME AND MY FRIENDS. I have eleventy-billion Influence and I can buy whatever I want! Mwa-hahahaha, I can buy everything SO NO PROBLEM EXISTS, and meanwhile YOU can live without mah l00t, YOU don't need it so STOP WHINING ALREADY! ALL L00T IS MIIIIIIINEEE!!!"
All protestations to the contrary are "whining." Wait for it.
The problem with this is, people *do* want rare recipes. Frustrate them enough in this endeavor and face the consequences. In a game-world where a purple recipe can easily cost 150 million and up these days, most players are not able to fit themselves out as they wish. Hell, these days it does not have to be a purple to cost that much! Far from it.
This is a game, not a job, so people have small tolerance for being told "no." They have enough problems in real life being told "no" about things they want. Do [general] you think they have a lot of tolerance for being told that they cannot have the best things in Paragon, and they should shut up about it and accept that they are "lesser gamers" who somehow "don't deserve" elite l00t? I wouldn't bet a dollar on it, myself. Not to mention some of us have jobs and literally do not have the TIME to be on a farm 24/7, farming for inf. and purples.
Are 150 million+ recipes going to be good for the game? We're about to find out the hard way. I don't see a lot of cushion for a crash-landing on this issue, but perhaps I am not l33t enough to afford to craft one on the market.
Quote:Lisa: Seems to me the Devs involved with this should form a team and spend an afternoon playing on the live servers as a real player.
But, what do I know.... -
Quote:I wouldn't so much call it a "lie" as them [the developers] knowing that if they admit to adjusting the recipe drop-rate, there will be a firestorm of fury and a lot of people deciding to decamp. So of course such a change would not be announced, or admitted to.If it turns out they are lying, I will quit instantly and never come back. I doubt that's what's happening, but that would be my reaction to this sort of "stealth nerf".
All I know is that nowadays, its very easy for a level 50 soloing on heroic to come out of a contact [not scanner, but contact] mission with either one basic IO recipe or.... no recipes at all. That is a DEFINITE downward adjustment, and I don't care who posts what; what I see with my own eyes will always trump a claim I cant see as being borne out by actual gameplay.
At this point I think a lot of people have left the game over AE-related issues. The last thing the owners/developers need right now is a confirmation that rewards have been reduced yet again, and you better believe they're smart enough to know that. Therefore I am hardly expecting a tacit admission of "Well yeah, we reduced recipe drops because of balance issues." Bwahahaha! So not happening.
The problem here is that an ever-increasing spiral of prices on the market is going to tick people off even more, which would be facilitated by a reduction in recipe drop-rates. Think about it: most people are doing regular content now, yet the market has not adjusted downward. Why not? This is the most likely scenario I can think of. -
Quote:I am wondering if there wasn't a "stealth" change to recipe drop-rates, and here's why: the new eight-man setting.I too feel that drop rates are off. So much so, in fact, it has sucked most of the remaining fun out of the game for me. After five years, I was really looking forward to being able to run huge spawns solo and finish off more than the 2 or 3 I've finished from my stable of 70 or more chars.
I played for two days after I16 went live, and haven't logged on since. I sure hope they find out that it is broken and fix it, cause I can't see myself continuing to play this much longer otherwise.
Leaving the rates alone would mean that people could be alone in a mission and come out with an ungodly amount of recipes anyways. This of course would be an "exploit."
So to prevent "exploits," recipe drop rate was greatly reduced - and I seem to be seeing less salvage these days as well, although I may be wrong on that one. What people never seem to remember is that anytime we get a new ability such as this, something else will be "adjusted" in the name of "balance." Therefore be careful what you wish for, you may just end up paying for it in some unexpected way.
