That's great but it doesn't really prove anything. High level team, solo/few-target (i.e., AV) tanking != low-mid level team, large-crowd tanking. What I'm suggesting is that your powerset combo looks like it can probably solo/few-target tank adequately, but evidently is less effective at large-crowd tanking with no damage aura or AE attacks in its arsenal. A taunt aura like Evasion is all well and good but without sufficient attacks to build threat it's just sitting there.

Quote:Don't take this as me taking a side here - idgaf about the personal conflict - but SR/MA? Softcap at 18 is great and all if one is soloing but taking a primary and secondary with [s]no taunt aura[/s] fake edit: one taunt aura at 12 and only one AE attack at 35? I have to question the effectiveness of that combo for tanking for a team. Since Gauntlet only spreads to 4 enemies aside from the target of a ST attack, unless one is hitting exactly the right spread of enemies, maintaining the attention of all 16 of the agro cap has to be challenging. Does Gauntlet spread Threat or just Taunt? Unless the mechanics have changed, of course. (or I plain don't know what I'm talking about - in which case I look forward to an education)Generally speaking you shouldn't be bossing people about, leader or not. I'm pretty sure the fact he stated he was softcapped at level 18 implies he knows what he is doing, ya know?
These situations are why I don't really like following the traditional MMO tank-dependent team gameplay in CoH. At low-mid levels, with the agro cap at 16 you really need 2 decent tanks on a team for agro coverage, especially if you run into two crowds very close together or chain ambushes like in the SSA. An equally decent debuff/control-heavy team with no tanks can handle those situations without blinking.
fake edit 2: no strike-through tag? son, I am disappoint -
Unless I'm reading it wrong, Snowglobe's guide lists access to the MA as Tier 2: granted upon simply purchasing points - as little as $5 worth. So a license to access MA would be redundant?
Or do you mean a license to create arcs in MA? -
-
Dunno what to say. I see plenty of 20s-30s teams LFM when I'm in Talos and other (blueside) zones of that level. I'm assuming starting a team is out of the question, as is joining a 50 AE or Tip team?

> lowbie team, blind invite, all support, all new fotm
> expecting them to know how to play
Maybe I'm just a cynic, but I'm finding it harder and harder to find the patience to teach people how to play their toons rather than just walking away from a bad team. If I was feeling charitable I'd probably have checked their badges to see how old the players were. If all new, sure - I might have taken a shot at offering some guidance. But too many long-time players just can't play. But worse - think they can. There's no teaching them until they seek it out on their own.
From the team makeup and behavior it appears obvious to me they sought you out - a dps AT - specifically so you could carry their lame asterisks. You did the right thing by moving on. -
That is a spiffy costume. I like how the different set pieces work well together.
@Boomie, I ran into someone just a few days ago who had exactly the same costume as me aside from his colors and cape. He had a good laugh as we complimented each other's style. -
Recently I dusted off my original hero character, an elec/dev tech origin blaster named Groundwire and one of his alt versions (Groundwire 9.83), a grav/ff controller. His other alt version (Groundwire Mk.2), an inv/em tanker, remains shelved. He's suited in fairly generic anime-style light blue powered armor, which he was inspired to build after being electrocuted while upgrading his PC. His bio is fairly tongue-in-cheek, but I play him straight - not as a joke or 4th-wall breaker. He's also the creator of the robotic exotic male dancer, 24kt PirateBot, whose purpose was to act as entertainment at Cog Sprocket's bachelorette party. I think I had more of a blast playing 24kt one single night than I ever did with GW, sadly.
I rolled GW at launch and played him for a while, and tried to RP some at the classic hangouts back then. Unfortunately I was a bit of a wallflower, so I was sure nobody noticed me. But then a new friend revealed that he remembered GW from a Posi TF we did together not long after launch, down to my bio and costume! I was totally flabbergasted.
Anyway, I'm just genuinely curious if anyone else I randomly or semi-randomly interacted with recalls him. I've finally gotten his first suit to 50 (only took 7 years) and regained interest in roleplaying him, especially with my upgrade of his controller version as grav/time. I'd potentially like to reconnect with other heroes he might have known if only as acquaintances. -
Quote:I don't know if it's referenced in the comics at all, but I know it's something one of the bartenders says. "Oh, the chalk outline? Back Alley Brawler had a few too many to drink one night," or something like that.Internet went out for a day. Found what I was looking for.
Shameless self promotion : Second half of a story I got published in the back up features is in this issue.
Anyways; On page 11 some of the CoH big names get in a confrontation with some of the CoV big names. On page 16 one of them has to go to DJ Zero to get him to set them up with a fight zone. References along the way mention the Power Nullifiers that make all powers useless. Suppose ***** slapping is still possible, but no powers.
Still looking for the back alley reference.
As for the talking points.
I don't fight in the D but I'm not gonna take the anti-D-fight crusade to those who do. If two guys want to fight and can't take it to the arena, whatever. Just don't try to involve me, and I'll ignore it just fine.
I take level into account, even for alternate versions of the same toon. Conceivably my 50 blaster could duplicate his power armor at the same strength but with different powers, except I don't see it as that easy. Level is half security/threat level - a wholly in-character mechanic for reputation/notoriety, by the way - and half gradually tuning the armor, upgrading its systems, and learning how to use it. So when he's in his controller suit he's far less raw-powerful than in his blaster suit until catching up in levels. Such a concept can apply to all origins just as easily. Learning new spells, exploring a new use of your mutation, training in a different fighting style or with new weapons, or insert equivalent for science here.
Extra powers, I treat as ridiculous as they're described. You can summon minor objects? Great, that's not abusive. So can one of my toons. You have irresistible pheromones? Not if I choose to resist them, but thanks anyway. You can grow to ludicrous size? Snork you. Take it elsewhere. And I agree about the not-a-Khelds. Most can DIAF, with very few exceptions in my experience.
I pretty much ignore psi/stealth-immunity god-moders. It's not that I go crazy with my psionic toon and try to mind-snork everyone I see, but that sort of pre-emptive, defensive comment tends to turn me off to the player right off the bat and I'd rather not invest in RPing with them only to find they've got a whole mine-field of god-mode rules, immunities, and powers. -
When the devs do us like this, I think you mean "postpwned"
-
I'm curious what they're counting as 60+ new costume pieces, unless they're counting the same piece multiple times - like the two boots across all lower body options = "30 new costume pieces!"
And still the "steampunk" armor looks painted-on, plus still missing matching boots. Son, I am disappoint. Now I wish I had got on test to peek it before buying instead of rushing to the store on trust. -
Quote:No, I don't think it's just the legacy fitness that makes him bad. It's probably twelve of one to half-dozen of the other re: just a plain bad build vs not clicking with the character any more - and I know that ratio is unbalanced. Was that build bad before inherent fitness? Or are you saying it's bad NOW because it doesn't have it, where it was fine before?
Do you have a problem playing that character? Perhaps it's not the build. And that, before you say anything, is not an attack. Some powersets and/or ATs don't click with some people. There's nothing wrong with that. But that attitude CAN bleed over into how well (or poorly) you play them - or THINK you're playing them.
For instance, I can't stand Illusion controllers. Absolutely hate the set. Only reason I have one at 47 right now is that I'm on a "One of each control set to 50" kick, and that one was my closest. When I play it, yes, I feel like I'm somewhat dead weight - even though the team's fully buffed, bubbles and leadership running, what control I *have* is being put out there, etc. Once it hits 50, it's probably getting shelved... yet in the meantime I'm making tanks happy for getting a bunch more resistance, the team's doing more damage thanks to the sonic siphon, possibly getting healed or buffed by enemies I've confused and the like. They're surprised (well, not my regular group any longer) when I complain about the character, since it's actively helping out and doing reasonably well. But my attitude toward it makes me feel like it's not doing its part.
Am I saying there are no bad builds? Absolutely not. Some end up standing out - such as the rad/rad corruptor who was playing as a "healor" in the mid 30s with no debuffs *at all* (utterly useless when going against GMs,) tanks without mez protection, emps that take no attacks and tend to "rock the aura" and put someone on follow - though that's also a mix of bad players as well.
For all I know, your Defender *does* have a lousy build that needs fixing. Post it in the defender forums and ask for help.
But this idea that "ZOMG u dint respect n2 inherunt fitnes" makes your build worthless or makes you a "drag on the team?" Complete and utter bollocks. I've PUGGed with people who had inherent fitness (and halfway decent, by power selection, builds) and were an utter drag on the team. And I play with people who haven't respecced into it (and have a few builds without it myself) who are more than perfectly fine (such as a friend's Dark/Dark defender who, pre-IOs, was "tanking" for the team, controlling aggro and a good 98% of the time was untouchable.)
Just getting him to 50 was an ordeal, and I know I don't play the game the same way as I did back then. I definitely have a more villain AT mindset, if that makes sense. When I get motivated enough to really work on his build I'll post what he's got now on the defender forums. I'll even page you if you want to come help trash him. -
Quote:Did you really just say only bad players use good builds? Surely not. :PReverse that and turn it into introspection for a moment.
Your assertions are borderline absurd on their face. Are you really that unskilled at actually playing your characters that you require the most min/maxed build to succeed?
Quote:Seriously, i've run the new Incarnate trials with alts using pre Inherent Fitness and post Inherent Fitness builds. No difficulties either way against level 54 Praetorian enemies. Sorry, but Inherent Fitness basically just allows you to add a few useful utility powers or gain a couple more percentage points here and there if your build prior to Inherent Fitness was already well done.
I literally FEEL BAD when my build drags the team down and they have to carry me. I won't play my defender right now because he's got just the sort of trash build I'm hating on here - and won't until I can figure out a respec that feels right, because I know that I'd be pulling down the rest of the team because MY *** is too <insert excuse here> to get it done.
OTOH, my dom, brute, and even my mm are all builds I'm happy with (though my dom isn't in my ultimate planned build yet) and I play them to the best of my ability. Am I the best? Newp. Could I learn more? Yerp. Am I gonna learn it from you, Bill, or the rest of this crowd? Who knows? If Bill really has done all the things he bragged about above, I could probably learn some tricks from him. Am I likely to play with him? Not if he looks out for my global. -
"I know you are but what am I?" Come on, man. You can do better. Or did you not respec your forum build when they made the Comeback pool inherent? :3
-
Quote:You appear to be resorting to a lot of personal attacks. Did I strike a nerve or something? What makes you think *three one-slotted powers* are going to make that big of a difference? Are you THAT insecure about your own choices?
I can give a bad player a perfect, purpled-out, multi-billion IO build. Know what? They'll still have trouble. I can give a good player an SO-only build, and they'll still do quite well. I can give you a great build and watch you crash and burn. *shrug*
Nope, it's the trolling being labeled as trolling. Though I do congratulate you on using "couldn't care less" as opposed to the rather nonsensical "I could care less." Really. Well done. It seems too few people do that. I'd even give you fair odds on shortening "respecification" properly.
Doesn't mean I think you have a clue about THIS, though.
"Made it my life's work to criticize the devs at every turn of the game's lifetime?" Really? That'd be hard to do when I wasn't here for the first 3 issues, for starters. And I find it amusing you're labeling me as such when I can point to *just* as many post of people calling me a "fanboi."
Perhaps you should pay attention to... oh, wait, your previously mentioned problem prevents that, doesn't it.
Remember, kids, don't drink and CRI.
TL;DR: You mad? -
Nope.
Quote:Those same builds have been tearing through content without inherent stamina for years. Soloing rikti pylons, GMs and AVs? Soloing TFs? Done long before inherent stamina. Some builds have been very effective without stamina, period. They're certainly not "worsening everyone else's paid-for playtime," and respeccing into inherent stamina has absolutely NO reflection on how good or bad of a player they are.
I couldn't care less what anyone who automatically labels criticism "trolling" thinks of me. Especially a hypocrite that's made it their life's work to criticize the devs at every turn of the game's lifetime. Good thing the devs aren't as defensive and dismissive as you, Billy boy. -
I saw "Americat" (or maybe "Amerikat") today, a double-pun! Though I learned the pun on "meercat" was unintentional when I complimented the player.
-
This server needs more animal pun toons!
In a fever of inspiration, I created Wild Bull Hickok and Black Angus Bart
Last I checked, Kobe Beef Bryant and Lion-O Richie are still available! -
Quote:Yeah I'm considering doing this for the acc/dmg and possibly -def, but with my Lts using the acc/-def/-tohit, end/-def/-tohit and status effect Hami-Os looks most efficient. If you want a cheaper route than Hami-O's, just frankenslotting pet IO's to maximize dam, acc and get some good end reduction (which is nice for many pets) works well.
You can get a LOT of enhancment with L50 double or triple enhancment IO's. 4 slots with say, 1x acc/dam/end, 2 x acc/dam and 1 x dam/end (all L50) will get you 73% acc 47% end and 95% damage - thats a lot of enhancment for just 4 slots. Leaves up to 2 slots for procs, enhancements for special pet power (like def for thugs enforcers or protector bots) or just frees up 2 slots you can move elsewhere.
Thanks for the link to your guide, MZ. I didn't see that in the Guides/FAQs sticky. -
Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to abandon the pet IO sets as worthless to me except the proc IOs and slot my guys up with Hami-Os to increase their secondary effect attack durations to compensate for their slow recharge.
-
I've looked around for this in the "FAQ" threads but apparently this isn't asked frequently.
Obviously our pets benefit from Acc, Dmg, and control enhancements like Stun and Hold. But do they benefit from EndRed and Recharge or is that just for us? Do their attacks benefit from our global recharge, or only our own powers?
I ask because I hear that mercs (my mm's set) suffers from too-slow special attacks, and was looking for a way to address that. I plan to make use of two Blood Mandate sets and a Sovereign Right set for the set defense bonuses and the resistance proc in Sov, but it appears none of the mm pet IO sets include any recharge enhancement. That's what made me consider global recharge.
Is all this already spelled out somewhere?
edit: So I just noticed it appears we can't even slot our pet powers for Recharge, so I guess the answer to that is, "No." But then I still wonder about global recharge. Are they immune to global recharge like some powers or what? -
I don't even put (RP) or any variant in my bio. I have a bio that I've spent some time and care writing and refining, and I am nearly always roleplaying. I feel that says enough about whether or not I am a RPer. My roleplay can and has sometimes been violent, but only when I've been in the company of other MRPers. When in lower-rated or mixed company, I tend to reduce my own rating to match and would hate if having (MRP) in my bio were to turn anyone off preemptively.
I like to think of the character bio as the stuff that might be learned about a character on the pilot and early episodes of their TV show, plus maybe a few hooks that might come up later in the show if I'm feeling generous. Junior's bio has a leetle piece of "top-sekrit" information about him just in case another player wants to follow up on it and does so in a fun way, but if anyone were to just metagame it he'd simply deny it outright. -
Quote:
See, here's the thing. I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to achieve.
Including the label would filter your RP to only those who would enjoy this particular detail about your character. As sad is it sound, you wouldn't get a lot of people to go "Oh, this character is a Futa/Intersex/Whatever! But I'm going to not meta game and have my straight male character to approach her and hit on her anyways, cause that's what my character would do in such a situation!" (e.g. Scenario #3 in my previous post) short of your close RP friends.
If that is what you want, as in you want to RP only with characters and players who would be interested in such a thing, then sure...go ahead, go nuts and include the label!
But if you want to not filter out your RP and experience your character realistically (e.g. Some people would make fun of her, some people would find her awkward, some people might love her, some people would be curious about her), then putting the tag would not help you even remotely achieve this.Quote:If that is what you want, as in you want to RP only with characters and players who would be interested in such a thing, then sure...go ahead, go nuts and include the label!
If you're only interested in RPing with people that like or are intrigued by or are curious of the fact you're FUTA and not metagame it, then what are you asking us for approval or input or advice for again? Are you just advertising so they'll look you up in-game? Or was this all just a careful troll, because it looks to me like you've already made up your mind on everything, including which term you want to use, and just want us all to clap and whistle and shout, "Well done! Way to stand your ground, in the oh-so-misunderstood and controversial genre of FUTA with FEELINGS. Here's your Oscar!"
If you're looking for a "delicate" way to put it in your bio, tough cookies. Good luck to you, tell us how it goes, because there isn't one. No matter what you say, unless it's something completely obscure like "Sex: Spork", essentially what you're doing is highlighting your toon's crotch and placing neon signs all around you that flash, "Look Everyone! She's Got a Dong! Does She Have Balls? Take a Chance!"
See, idgaf what sex your toon is. FUTA isn't really my preference but it doesn't offend me either so I'd most likely be indifferent-to-wary of you if we met in-game. Wary because FUTA are usually of the ERP flavor player and why would one of them talk to me? Why do they talk to ANYBODY. And I apologize. I'm sorry that my tone is suddenly confrontational when I've been mostly playful in the thread (mostly because I found your apparent goal admirable if amusing) but what I said above is honestly how this is looking, or as Magpie put it so much more succinctly:
-
Quote:If only SOMEONE had suggested a concise way of indicating all of what you said here earlier in the thread. ^_^It's a little of both, actually. I will not be actively looking for ERP, but am not averse to the idea of an honest-to-goodness romance (which need not necessarily include ERP) if such a thing occurs during the natural course of regular RP. Yet I also want to 'tag a character's trait' without it coming off as an advertisement; both for the sake of being open and for the sake of... well, I suppose it's really just my personal quirk.
Along the lines of terms like "intersex", how about "mixed gender" - though that's longer so probably not as attractive.
