More questions...
1. How offten has are tanks/scrappers/brutes defeated by fully ranged blasters?
2. How offten are the above defeated by blasters running in to melee using Ice or Fire secondaries?
3. Over all, what sets are the most threatening and least threatening to the mentioned melee?
Just so it is noted.... these are serious questions. (Devices not mentioned as it has one melee power and thats taser...) -

Trying to PVP with no knockback protection is stupid. I encourage everyone to try it, you will be crushed by just about every AT that decides to pick on you. It's particularly humiliating to get Galed around over and over. Only someone who hasn't actually tried PVPing with no knockback protection would suggest it.

Well that's very disappointing...
So if you have no status protection, pvp is pointless
If you don't have knockback protection, pvp is pointless
If you don't have high burst damage, pvp is pointless...
If you don't have any form of stacked perception, then you will be nothing more then stalker bait.
The more I read.... the more I push the pvp plate away. Potential enjoyment shrinks the more I find out. I guess its nice to know that the only way for someone to get any enjoyment out of it is to play someone elses toon. -
Are ya sure? I ask because everyone but my tanker has been knocked on their back side a bit there. And usualy, unless you are running hover or something, that second is enough to throw a second attack which and possibly a third if the victum of the knockback is throwing their own attack in retaliation. (I wish I could spell >_<

These are what I know of...
Super Strenght: Knock Out blow as you mentioned, various knockback/downs and does hand clap do knockback and stun or is it just knock back?
Stone Melee: Knockdown/backs with a couple of powers that can stun and Seismic Smash that can hold
Axe: Knockbacks/ups
Mace: Stun chances, no idea if this has knockback/up as I rarely see it.
Ice: Slows... and a hold I beleive. course RARELY see this set much at all. Not very damaging from what I understand.
Fire... is in the cold... its stright damage so yeah...
Course if you were speaking 100% chance... it would require going into specific powers and I don't have that knowledge... -
That's a question... under the effects of build up and aim... (I guess defiance... basicly a damage cap test.) and strongest blaster single target and AOE. If completely unresisted, how much damage would they do? (add both Melee and Ranged for the single target if possible.)
Then under the same damage cap except with the target with damage resistance, how much damage is done?
Yes, these are serious questions. Now reason for asking for damage cap with the strongest blaster single target and strongest AoE is because that is the peak of blaster damage as it doesn't get any higher then that.
Course I don't know how to measure resistance in the test. I just want to know how much of a diffrence 30% unresisted makes.
It is one thing to argue but the best results only show when people do the testing and provide numbers from those test. -
Isn't the reason that a pvp blaster with energy/electric manipulation ignores their primary and attacks with the melee is because their melee attacks are faster and MUCH stronger then the primary attacks?
-
Where does this leave Assualt Rifle / Devices blasters?
I've only heard of one tactic concerning devices which is the Tp Foe + Mines method. The only thing I've heard of getting "gunned down" by this combo was Master Minds.
All I've really seen thread wise is blaster melee attacks. (usualy just Energy and Electric)
Just where do blaster stand using only their ranged attacks... and where does fire and ice manipulation stand?
Broken down... Primary and Secondary... where does each powerset stand?
And yes... this is a serious question. Because as it stands now.... it seems like only a couple sets are causing grief and the rest just get to watch. -
This brings up a question...
Assualt Rifle Devices...
NOT using the mine+tp Foe method... is the combonation at the bottom of the barrel as it concerns blaster Kill to death ratio? -
Well all I want is an explanation as to "What" Defenders and Controllers are killing you to be so high on the list?
Reason being that I find it hard to beleive that every Defender power set and every controller power set can enter player vs player and be powerful.
The way the power scale works in my mind is that if the AT itself can be used, not jsut "certian" power sets. Hense, every stalker, every blaster, brute, scrapper, and tanker.
If its power limited to a ceritan power set, then its not the AT, its that power set.
I do find it hard to beleive that anyone will lose to an Empathy defender as easly (or with the same difficulty) as they would a Radiation Defender.
Same goes for Earth Control (Which is what I have and when It came to my pvp experances, the set was just a notch above worthless) vs Illusion. -
Umm...
What Controller?
What Defender?
I would ask What Tanker but that's more on why are you sticking around long enough for a tank to kill you?
And if Controllers and Defenders are that high, wouldn't that place Mastermind between them?
Far as I've experanced... Controllers and Defenders are near the bottem. Blasters under Stalkers, Brutes and Scrappers dead even. (you get to see awesome one on ones between them)
Corrupter and Tankers I would call... odd to place. Masterminds over Defender and controller.
Reason being that the top pvpers are the ones that "every" power set can be used to fight. When it comes to Defender and Controllers, you don't see everyone one being equaly as effective. -
I'm thinking he means the line between living and dying.
Generaly, a mistake not being the end of the world. In the case of a blaster. A mistake could cross the line from living to dead extreamly easly.
A scrapper on the same field, the mistake has further to go to push the scrapper across the line. -
Numbers make my head bleed.
Are theses numbers Just defense, defense and resistance?
Is this including mez protection. (including knockback)
Here I was trying to avoid being a part of this argument
Regardless of extra life, (unless carrying a few break frees, acrobatics or hover as active powers) wouldn't an enemy that could survive a blaster volley and possibly throw a mez/knockback put a blaster on the defensive (and possibly kill) easyer then a scrapper runnign their defenses? Plus have a higher possibilty of hitting the blaster who has no defenses (or next to no) to lower the chance of being hit?
(My blaster AR/Dev was killed by a single Orange boss in I would say five attacks. I had no breakfrees and I could not run because I was held.)
Level 8 Tanker, (fire fire tanker) Lost to a single Lost Boss because it would throw its hold arond the same time the orginal one he put on me quit. Basicly I couldn't fight back till I met my contact on the way back to the mission from the hospital. (Fiery Aura doesn't get mez armor till 12)
Only certian blasters can possibly avoid mezing mobs and situations where their survival goes down quite a bit.
All the scrapper defenses has mez protection and regardless of what damage blasters have, scrappers have a higher natural survival status.
There is more to the factor of balance and survival then just plan on numbers. Atleast, that is what I beleive. -

That's just nonsense. Even running the three powers you cite that would get a Blaster up to 17.5% defense unslotted. Not bad.

I'm trying to stay out this arguement but keep reading it at the same time. The above line confused me a little. Are you talking before the defense nerf? -
Even a casual player can have a moment. I don't generaly pvp but my brother mentioned how much fun he had with his scrapper. I don't have anyone though and capable of fighting but I did have my blaster. I went into the zone... got dropped by stalkers and brutes. I got tired of it but the fights were cool so I figured I would watch the other heros and villians fight it out. Now here is the thing that amused me. I knew someone would see me, and thus come after me.
So I picked a decent out of the way spot to watch and started setting mines. I had 8 mines set when I got assassin struck and in that same instants. Stalker got nuked by the mines. I moved to a diffrent spot and started setting mines while watchign the fights. Sure enough, I get struck again but once more the mines were the payment for that. Now the two stalkers got a laugh out of it but the one thing that surprised me more then anything that I had to leave or die laughing.
I have two recharges in my trip mines so i can set 16 with a few seconds before the first explodes. Apparently the Stalkers didn't want to hit me any more.So I had my limit of mines and a constant explosion around me every few seconds. I figured that would be a sure fire sign of mines or danger or something. Apparently this wasn't the case for the brute as he jumped right into the mines setting all 16 off at once. My jaw droped, I could not beleive he just did that. The comment he made afterwards gave me the feeling that what just happend kind of ticked him off. One word..
"Cute..."
Seriously.... You see a consistant ring of fire come up from a none moving blaster.... Does that really = safe to attack melee? -
Can a base be raided while the occupants (I can't spell) are locked out?
-
Developer Manticore, my question is this.
Have you considered devoloping a story line in which we as the new guys get to run around with you?
Generaly speaking, Statesman is a nice mascot and all but I would rather like to run a mission or two with Manticore around to show my newbie heros the ropes. Manticore already gives a taskforce but seriously, I still want to see em in action. -
Actualy while I don't like to be in melee range with my blaster, its not a problem to me. What bugs me a bit is how its viewed as being stronger then the primary.
You... ok I... would figure if one was to make a total damage class, damage done by both primary and secondary would both clock as great... not good/awesome.
Hey, you gave me an idea though.
Use AOE strong primary, Energy Secondary.
Primary knocks out the minions and lts of enemy groups, Secondary to take down the bosses. Just need to avoid the one shot KO...
Hmm... time for some planning... -
Its safe to say, that is one of the things that really digs into my skin. I picked a blaster because I wanted to shoot things to death/submission. I didnt look at the blaster and say, yeah, I can beat my enemies into submission I said that when I looked at scrappers. I play Assault Rifle, Devices because it is perfect for the way I wanted my blaster to be. A trapper, setting up traps that make my enemies pay for trying to close the gap between them and me. It just eats at my skin to see the primary of an AT (any of them but I believe blasters are most noted on the boards) apparently be the weaker.
I always view the process of primary/secondary as Primary being strongest/ secondary support.
Primary life support has gone down, secondary has been activated. Prepare for evac. -
Om Concern.. what if you feel like a crazed psychopath around.. I don't know... level 32 and beyound when you get full auto, or ... well 8 bit theather's fighter when you get trip mines. I like Mines...
miney mine mine mine....

All I would could want is the super group decal/icon/design be a seperate thing from the chest design so that people who have chest designs already wont lose them. Be able to place that design somewhere other then chest like on the arm or leg or something.
