Quote:Not really. Revamping the low level (which folks are STILL asking for) starting zones (especially COH) was what was requested. I'd bet money that many more people wanted THAT than Praetorian Earth expanded.Actually, Praetoria was one of the things quite a few players asked about when it came to adding to the lore - the original Maria and Tina arcs left all kinds of things unanswered about Praetorian Earth.
I will say that without the expansion though the game's content wouldn't have been able to expand so fast in the past few months. -
Quote:This. It's gonna take time to build up the content. That'd be the wrong answer. The correct answer would be "limitations of software development." Content takes time. More is coming, but there was a deadline to get even this much of the system out....since it'd already slipped a previous due date, pushing it back even further was not an option.
-
Quote:Errr not at all what was requested and you know that. From June 2004:
Some of the oldest existing lore, which the devs have been expanding upon, as requested
As I said already there have been NUMEROUS suggested about areas of the lore to expand. Folks can go look them up if they've missed them. I'm sure the devs have a list. -
Quote:Yep, as I said I don't read the silly plot anymore. Works out well for me.Well, it's Praetoria all the way to the Omega slot - and then we get more wacky Well antics for the Coming Storm - so you've got a lot of ignoring to look forward to
And Nemesis hasn't even been spotted yet -
Quote:Soooo the fact that any major leveling content was in instances didn't already do it . . the tailors, ferries, oroborous, vet teleportation powers, vip teleporter, and base teleporters only made it easy to get around. Unless you were someone who liked showing off your costume or a catgirl in atlas, most folks are in missions.I agree completely. Makes it seem like no one is around. One of the reasons I have missed feelings on the new Train/Ferry changes.
I don't see how adding some sort of portable tailor would be bad.
EDIT: When I'm at the tailor I'm not chatting or looking at my chat box. And honestly once I'm done I go do my mission, I don't stand around shooting the breeze. I've got villains to arrest/robberies to commit.
I honestly see more chat going on on GLOBAL CHANNELS than I do see in the game world that NEVER, EVER had any reason to stand around in. -
Quote:SOME people, not all.Sure - it's just that people won't take it seriously, that's all
And there have been NUMEROUS OTHER things suggested ALREADY other than the Goatee Universe plotline.
Loving the Incarnate powers and "leveling" my 50s, COMPLETELY and UTTERLY ignoring the silly (IMO) storyline. -
To get me to use that useless tool you'd need to give completely queue formed teamed a bonus 5 Astrals and 3 Emps on completion.
Yes I'm serious, I find the tool that bad. -
Quote:If this is what you are hoping they fix you are going to be greatly disappointed. From someone who has done ZERO Trails on LIVE -- I can't wait!!
(hopefully to say Thank You, but I reserve that right until seeing the actual changes!)
The above is a personal decision and does not reflect upon anyone nor is it directed towards anyone; it is simply a statement of fact.
Since playtime is all of (zero / zilch / nada) this weekend, maybe I ill try one tonight. Highly doubtful till they fix the turnstile system though.
Rewarding people is not something you can do based off of "things done to NPC's"... So much else goes into what our supers actually do! Healing / Buffin / Rezzing / Dieing so the entire league can get vengeance (or did that get fixed?) / Running ahead to TP people while the LeagueLeader moves people around (this go along with a raid tactic I hope to see CoX leagues using someday) / Taunting / Pulling / Making sure mobs are controlled and locked down / Giving Instructions / Actively Searching for mob type-dependant targets / Being MA or MT (Main Assist or Main Tank) / I could go on but this post is already getting lengthy.
--You also can not reward based off 'totals' from a team compared to others -- teams should normally be built 'unfairly' and 'unbalanced' to best succeed depending on what the event calls for. (not so much yet, but when the scripts get more complicated for the events it is distinct possibility)
Having joined the LFG system numerous times on several accounts and having fought ZERO mobs so far in trials (Leagues abuse LFG to 'get started' so they can then kick down to minimum and do that ugly 'F' word) does leave one thinking to oneself "Why do I waste time on this 'feature' ". The 'average cue' times are just disheatening -- 2minutes can = over an hour and normally equals a minimum of 30 minutes)
the playerbase has spoken. the LFG is useless as a feature of I20, as most people form their league BEFORE queuing and usually at the maximum and in Pocket D or RWZ. No fix the devs can do can change that except maybe putting the ACTUAL wait time for queuing. (thus further showing how useless the LFG queue is)
I'd advise just going to Pocket D or RWZ and b-casting if you seriously want to start doing Incarnate Content. -
Quote:Agreed. It's a very fair point you make. I think looking back, it's probably enough to say that regardless of the reasons, the i20 beta didn't work as well as it could/should have.
Thus, moving forward an effort must be made to fix it, as Posi indicated they wish to do. I'm saying that any effort not made to rebuild confidence is likely going to be less than a success. -
Quote:Most hated random? Sounds to me like the devs go the message just fine, which is a credit to them.By the flesh-shufflin' one:
[Firstly, there were others. Most hated random. I was the one that went ballastic over reward-based, but since no one really confirmed whether it was reward or random since THEY TOLD US TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. That sort of cut short that discussion.
The testers, not so much.
Which is precisely why you don't want to invoke a NDA - you want the word to get out that it's working.
Because this fix is as much political as it is technical. Never lose sight of just how important they view i20 - from the fact that they have released numerous statements in less than a week (which is light speed for them), to Z's admonishments/warnings to us, to the numerous interviews you can see in the Announcements section.
This is huge for them and the damage control must involve the human element too, because that's honestly what was damaged.[/QUOTE]
------------------------
Actually it sounds like the devs didn't communicate about how the system worked all that well. Your quote says "but since no one really confirmed whether it was reward or random since THEY TOLD US TWO DIFFERENT THINGS." so again, I don't think the testers are at fault.
You could have had ever player in the game testing, but if the devs don't state exactly HOW it's SUPPOSSED to work, no amount of testers will EVER be able to see if it's working as intended. -
Quote:Actually I think you completely misinterpreted what was said in that thread. What was said was that the testers mentioned the problems/concerns with the system, but for whatever reason the devs didn't quite get that message.I think you make a compelling case, but I'd say you'd need a helluva lot more than 10 people - more on the lines of hundreds. After all, part of the reason is that apart from giving devs feedback, you'd want evangalists to go out and spread the word of the glories of the new system - that's why you absolutely wouldn't want it to be NDA beta - you'd want it closed, to keep the signal to noise ratio high, but that's it.
And yes, without a doubt someone like Arcana should be in that. However, you'd also want some fresh blood, because if it's true (as was said in the other thread) that most of the NDA testers wanted a participation system, then they aren't doing the devs any favors.
I mentioned NDA closed beta in reference to Issue 20, but I do agree that they would need more than 10 in a regular closed beta. But NO WHERE NEAR 100s. i wouldn't trust that many folks with that amount/kind of info. Especially if you are no longer using an NDA. -
Quote:Ehh I see both sides.Sorry but that stance is more absurd. She is human and can make mistakes (see her commentary on pvp numbers). At times she doesn't take into effect the human element, which is fine.
The fact that she's a board celebrity (and not entirely unjustified at that) doesn't make her a super-player. It makes her good with numbers.
That's a far cry from any justification that elevates any player above us mere peons and frankly, you should be embarassed to espouse that sentiment.
This system needs to go beyond just numbers. Which is something that I think Arcanaville is missing this time. But at the same time if there are a few folks (I'd say 10) who should be straight up told how the system works so they can properly test it during NDA CLOSED BETAs, I'd put her at number 5.
For full disclosure I wouldn't put myself anywhere on that list. -
so in other words the Queue is useless all around. Good to know.

Quote:Shelf him for now and wait until content you do want to do exists so that you can bring him out of mothballs.I want to share a little slice of life with you, in the hopes of coming up with some kind of unexpected epiphany, and I say this quite seriously.
I've been talking about not wanting to bother with the Incarnate system for some time now, and as a result have been levelling up "alts." However, I figured "Hey! I have 50s and I ought to play THEM at some point, right? Let's pick my old flagship villain and see what I can do with him?" So I dug up my old Mids build and was just about to set to respeccing a character I haven't really played much in years when I thought to check what said villain can actually do should I go ahead and give him his respec. I was disappointed to find the following in his contacts list:
*Marcus Valerius - repeatable mission contact
*Senator Aquila - he disappeared as soon as I called him
The Architect Studio Manager - whom I apparently haven't spoken with yet
Borea - repeatable mission contact
*Warzone Operative Braun - repeatable mission contact IN A PVP ZONE
*Sister Airlia
*Mender Ramiel
Of those, the only two meaningful contacts that I have are Ramiel and Airlia. Ramiel has around four missions in one arc, Airlia has around six missions split between two arcs. All together between them, they give me around a day's worth of content, especially now that I'm off work for some time over (orthodox) Easter. So, OK, let's say I run with those two. Then what? I literally have no other contacts for this Brute, because I had to run them all just to get to level 50, and I still had to run paper missions for the last level or so, back before Experience Scaling.
I'm really pressed for answers here. Yes, I'm aware I could just run, err... The ITF? The Apex and Tin Mage stuff? The Lambada and BARF Trials? To a point, I suppose. But even were I not disinclined to run "Task Forces" back-to-back, that won't last me much longer, either, at least not unless I plan to grind them endlessly, which I don't.
I find myself right now grasping at straws. I like my villain, and I do want to play him a bit. But I just can't bring myself to commit to all the work I'd need to do to make him playable again (he had a horrid build even before) without something to look forward to at the end of the yellow brick road. There's planning a respec, there's enacting it, there's sorting the MESS this makes of my trays, there's redoing his old binds, probably fixing some of his hideous old costumes, possibly redoing his bio since the one he's using now is six years old and my writing skills have improved considerably. There's a lot of work to put into this guy, and I just don't see the point right now.
All this work, and for what? So I can run a couple of short arcs and be out of ideas once more? I've run papers with him. Run them into the ground. I've run PvE missions in PvP zones. Braun's bar is full. I've run more than enough faceless fill-in-the-blanks repeatable content to last me a life time, and I just so happen to have run almost all the non-repeatable 45-50 content. So what do I do now?
Serious question here. I like the character, I want to play him, but I can't bring myself to sinking down what will end up being an entire day fixing his sorry *** if all I have to look forward is "repeatable content." Because beyond that, I'm out of ideas, and it seriously sucks. I like this character.
Play your other alts. -
Quote:Really? So once again this is all linked to the Well. The Coming storm is not the Praetorians.
Their connection to it comes form the Well chosing Tyrant as the one to protect the multiverse from the Coming Storm, meaning that we have to defeat him to show the Well that we're better suited to protecting the multiverse from the Coming Storm.
That's . .. incredibly boring. -

Quote:I'd also say that the trials are the WORST place to try and make friends or shoot the breeze. On the 30+ trials I've been on since live the ACTUAL TASKS IN THE TRIAL is mostly all what folks talk about in League Chat. For some people. You aren't everyone. Some people find the best part is that they can create a character with an actual unique look (as opposed to Orc #398734298742 with Reguar Armor of Level 30 Like Everyone Else) and solo it from 1-50 at your own pace.
... but only because there's a maximum level to reach.
They are have been a handful where people do lol or crack jokes, but mostly NOT during any of the trial phases. The one exception was when someone turned themselves into a ritki monkey. The lols, lmaos did fill league chat for that on.
For trying to increase your global friends list I'd recommend teaming for ANY OTHER content but the trials. -
Quote:If someone is taking a break from COH I'd recommend ANYTHING but the idiocy of XBox Live or other online games where 12 year olds curse up a storm and think they are special snowflakes.OMG !1 that is what happend to me . after about 3 weeks of trying not to throw my ps3 controller at my tv screen i came back to COX .
and on COD 4 you can here alll the insults and cursing from racisits 12 year olds instead of the occasional CAPS!!!!
i think ill log on my vill an play now !!
I've . . . just never had a good experience with online console games. -
Quote:I think this is spot on.Is it just me or do people who play overpowered stuff in general clamor for being even more OP, or nerfing everyone else, since I20?
First it was softcapped defense toons complaining about defense supposedly being shafted in incarnate content, the other day a bots/traps MM complaining that he couldn't solo a particular AV, then an illusion controller whining that PA wasn't the I win button it always is everywhere else against escapees, then a kinetic complaining judgement powers make it hard for him to get FS off, now another kin asking for a buff...
Sure seems like tons of people who flock to easy mode FOTYs are now unhappy because they aren't that special snowflake anymore.
Some will see this is as a pointless and cheap flamebait, I'm sure, and maybe they are right to an extent ; but I shake my head in disbelief more and more as these topics keep popping up one after another. No rant would be complete with a random ill-suited analogy - this kind of stuff just seems to me like some random guy coming in Haïti and complaining that his 401k won't allow him to buy a third house. Do yourself a favor - play a peacebringer, have some perspective. -
/unsigned to everything but the not now button for reasons already stated.

Quote:Seriously, you're NOT going to win the trials AOEing seeing as how MOST of the trials is AVs. Hell one of the main gimmicks in one of them is beating two AVs AT THE SAME freaking time. How anyone can say beating up the avs or high HP entities, isn't a significant portion of the trials is beyond me.Everyone keeps saying that AoE is king in the trials. Shouldn't your most effective attack be Whirling Hands, not Energy Transfer?
In any case, my MA/SR scrapper can get decent use out of Eagle's Claw in the trials, and while its cast time is not as long as Total Focus, its comparable to Energy Transfer. I find it difficult to believe I can use EC effectively most of the time, if ET and TF are ineffective most of the time.
Not even the fastest teams I've been on are vaporizing the bosses in the trials instantly, so my scrapper targets them specifically. My attacks land on live targets most of the time. And there are large sections of the trials when the league is not concentrated enough to defeat targets fast enough for this to be a problem either way in my experience: fighting the AVs or the escape phase in BAF, gathering weapons in Lambda, fighting Maurader in Lambda. I even consistently land EC on the turrets in Lambda, because they never go down instantly. -
