Quote:Seeing as how I just saw it last night, MUUUUUSSSTT AGREE.THIS is the only "urgent, must see" thing so far in this thread.
If you haven't already seen (or aren't planning in the VERY near future to see) The Avengers, then you're a terrible person and you should feel bad about yourself and the choices you've made in life.
RUN to go see it, don't walk.

Quote:Good analysis. I assume that these side exclusive items would untradable on the market and account bound?
Me personally, I'd rather see open-environments for all three worlds (Paragon City, Praetoria and the Rogue Isles) with tons of unique, side exclusive enemy groups for the player to engage -- but with certain caveats:
1) Blue side is for PvE/Team XP bonuses with blue side-exclusive drops/craftable items
2) Red side is for PvE/Team Inf bonuses with red side-exclusive drops/craftable items
3) Gold side becomes an open-world PvPvE realm with Team merit/prestige bonuses and gold side-exclusive drops/craftable items
These realms should complement each other and provide an exclusive gameplay experience rather than overlap each other and provide the same or lesser gameplay experience as they do now (which is another reason why most folks always play/stay on blue side; there is absolutely no incentive to go play in those other worlds for achievements and rewards that you can't already get on blue side).
But I digress... Red side rules!
Because if you can trade them on the market you run right smack into the same issue as before: what's the point of playing any side if I can just get the same rewards by staying blue and getting the gold and red stuff on the unified market?
I don't see them adding pvp to Gold side though. -
Quote:Ehhh, none of those costume pieces necessarily mean villains as I could name games with the protagonists (heroic individuals) who wear those costumes and are heroes. If folks wanted play villains more there would be more villains. You say that and then I point to chain mail, leather armor and post apocalyptic costume sets that are coming inbound. People love those games and they want to play them and have those amoral experiences HERE.
The other thing to keep in mind is that morality plays work the same in any genre. And Darth Vader should be a singing testament that mainstream audiences can and do love the bad guys.
At this point, I don't think Jack Emmert and Zeb Cook were thinking outside the box when they helped conceptualize the Rogue Isles. There's still time and ways to improve the design for cheap and attract more players (both current and new) to red side. But it does require thinking outside the box...
I don't say that as an insult to the devs who used to work on CoV from conception but as a challenge to War Witch and the current team of Devs to be innovative and flip red side in such a way that this old hideout looks new again.
I don't think there is enough resources or will to do the type of Rogue Isles revamp that you envision that would bring up the population of redside to the point where you think it will. It would require an expansion type effort, which I don't think we'll be seeing anything soon.
The best they can do is try to play with the rewards and change the content of those zones one zone at a time. I don't seriously think any of that will make much a difference, especially since you can play any of the villain ATs from level 1 on ANY side, you can be a hero and still run villain missions by becoming a vigilante, and the highest content of the game--Incarnates--is co-op.
In addition they just tired another new "side" with Praetoria. How much is that area of the game being used today? -
Quote:Be careful with the bolded.Be socialable--unless you are RPing someone who is not
I always say hello and like making silly comments about situations during missions and the like. Teasing people who almost die or for doing something crazy. We're a team of friends, working together toward a common goal. I love the band of brothers feeling of a great team.
I've tried it a few times and had it blow up in my face with the person taking it the wrong way. My modified advice would be to do that in teams that are running like that. If you find the people are SERIOUS BIZNESS types I'd avoid doing that when something goes wrong.
Now if you are playing with your friends or sg, go nuts. -
Quote:I should have mentioned SUPERHEROS.That's so not true. Games like Skyrim, Fallout and more reward the player that's willing to explore their virtual dark side - IF there's good incentive to do so. Red side will definitely draw more players if the reward mechanics become exclusive/more enriching.
This isn't Skyrim, Fallout or anyone of those.
It's a genre specific game setting of superheroes vs supervillains.
In that type of setting, people in general prefer playing Superheros.
A competitor to this game has the same issue, the hero pop is three times as large as the villain one. -
Quote:You forgot 5) people in general prefer playing heroes instead of villains. Nothing the devs can do will ever change that. Doesn't mean they shouldn't try though.Red side rocks.
Playing a villain now is way better than it was when CoV launched. My SG mates prefer blue side but they'll explore red side if I'm around. That said, red side is still a hard sell sometimes for a few reasons:
1) The zones are depressing to look at.
2) All the Arachnos contacts and their missions are uninspired (TV is a rare exception).
3) Red side rewards are same as blue side (where they're easier/faster to get)
4) Strike forces outside of the WST and mayhem missions are very difficult. -
Quote:Heh.Part of me is just waiting for her response - though some of it I know is stuff she's said elsewhere, as I think she's made this very comment in various threads.
Part of me knows I'll skip it and find something easy like an in-depth discussion of 'brane theory and multiverses to read instead.
*watches as she posts a 7 page math theorum just to troll Memphis_Bill* -
Quote:At one time I was sure that devs would never allow inherent stamina or some buffs to become AOE.What would make defenders and corruptors really different (and probably make defenders overpowered) would be to to make their single target buffs also affect them.
an empathy getting their own fortitude would totally change the set
likewise a storm getting 02 Boost
FF getting their own bubbles
Thankfully the devs have loosened up over the years.
So I really see no issue with allowing defenders to get this benefit, even if the self buff would be smaller than the team buff. (Not that i see any reason it needs to be). -
This is a verrrrrrry dangerous thread.
*summons Arcanaville* muahahahahha.
If I were a dev: the base costume slots would be the base. To get anymore you'd have to buy them.
Recharge, defense, resistance, buffs, debuffs would all be CUT IN HALF of what they are now, and then they would have have DR like in PVP.
As "compensation" there would be ZERO travel suppression in PVP or PVE.
In addition there would be queues for EVERYTHING so that you could get a team easily, since the changes above would pretty much mean you needed a team to get anything done.

Quote:An aoe hold with little cost and procing damage is useful . . . for the controller.I understand containment. However, past the mid-20's, any decent troller should have ample tools from which to select that a) set up containment, and b) actually do something useful.

Quote:No it's not. If they are unhappy trying in getting a team (the whole blooming point of playing an mmo) I'd rather they switch then leave the game.I'm not saying it's wrong to roll Heroes. I'm saying that rolling one because 'nobody plays villains'/'red is dead' compounds the issue behind the complaint itself and is therefore a ridiculous action to take using that reasoning.
Whatever reason they move to the side that has more players for is irrelevant.
They are still playing/subscribed. -
Quote:If they want to state that they've done something no one has the right to tell them not to express an opinion. That's just silly.Woah woah woah! I never said they should lie. However, galavanting around proclaiming they are moving to blue doesn't fix anything though, which is what I was saying they shouldn't do.
Also, if everyone who ever left redside due to population stayed... it wouldn't be as big of an issue either. Which is sorta the point of the thread. -
Quote:There have been a few tv plugs on shows like Big Bang Theory, but not many. And thus, you've determined, as many of us have, the reason why this game has always been a niche game and not more mainstream.
Other than some videos I've seen posted on the website in the past, I don't recall any advertisements for this game. I'm sure there have been, but for some reason, there's never been much of an ad budget, it seems. -

The low hitpoints and slower pace are somethings I just can't get into anymore in my old(er) age. If it was 5 years ago I'd be playing them.
I . . . just can't get into them.
Them and MMs are the two I don't have a 50 of. One 46 one 49. Just find both classes BORING to play . . . for different reasons. -
Gamestop, while looking to see if there were any of the older CRPGs I missed.
Decided to take the plunge when I got a computer than can run it.
Today . . . LOL there isn't any computer I have/can get/could get that would have an issue running COH.
Though I still want one that can run ultra mode.
Looking forward to another 8+ years.
GRATZ!

Quote:Especially since folks are asking to be able to buy them off the market, so those sales are still going to go to the market. Not sure what you mean with the anti-client deal. What I am getting at is the ability to earned everything in the game that is offered in the market. Just like the new ATO's the devs could in fact provide alternate in game ways to earn these items. It is a quite simple concept that they already use and should now be extended to those outliers as they are not needed to sweeten the Supergamble Packs to stimulate sales.
People are going to still buy the packs and allowing alternate means for earning the outliers is not going to hurt those massive sales. -
Quote:gratzthis. Reward tokens are kind of precious. You never know what might show up. Points stuff; well, you can always buy points or just use free points.
Edit: I made 1.7 bil off merits/converters i got from my packs. I am happy. :d
interestingly, i have hoarded my inf... First bil in 8 years of playing. -
Quote:THIS. Even if half the team has it, it would cut down the time on some tfs, not just speed ones.Maybe the word "revolutionize" would be a bit hyperbolic but this should do some interesting things on certain speed TFs. This power would be a bargain at twice the price.
Imagine the shard tfs. -
Quote:+1Couldn't agree more...especially with the fact that we can shut off xp gain.
I mean...if you think you're leveling too fast...shut it off...and let others have fun with the regular leveling speed.
Don't try to get something changed just because you don't use the tools at your disposal.
I will never understand the "want" for less options in this game. -
Quote:They've already stated that they will continue to have Double XP Weekends.Yeah, I don't really even think these should exist... let alone buy one. To me, it seems like a way to get out of doing 2XP Weekends... why give them away if you can milk the costumer base for the same thing?
When these were introduced on beta was right when they had another double xp weekend.
EDIT: Also I'm GLAD these exist for those who want to level faster and for the game to make more money. I don't see an issue here.
