It's in the FAQ. You lose nothing when you switch.

Quote:Why would there be yelling and screaming? One of the big reasons given for that was because a market merge would disrupt all sales that were in-progress at the time. It looks like they finally decided that they'd have to bite that bullet and let it happen. A bit of a gutsy move by whomever authorized it. I predict that, come GR, there will be much yelling and screaming from players who missed the announcements. No way to avoid that.
All items on the market for sale will revert to "stored". Read the FAQ. -
Quote:MEH.For me, the real (and extremely minor) downside of the merger is the loss of smuggling, which was bandied about for a while (since the merketign survey some years ago). I think I would have enjoyed a little smuggling back and forth.
Isn't that what Vigilantes and Rogues are technically doing anyway. -
Quote:I'm going on record NOW to say that you WILL BE WRONG.In a logical world, that would be true. However, the Marketeers that are creating the same manipulations in the market today (1,000,000 common salvage, for example) are simply being given a larger playing field.
Like I've said earlier, I don't tend toward playing the market mini-game. As a rule I slot what drops, but occasional I want to use the market to get a specific piece of salvage or something, especially with the intro of the temp combat powers. On blue side, that tended to be difficult at best, but at least on red side it could be done more times than not. This change - and I truly hope to be proven wrong - is going to benefit a specific group of players to the detriment of all the others.
I think the devs have based this idea solely on "ease of maintainability" with little regard towards the player base as a whole.
But that's just me. I guess we'll see when the dust settles in September or Novemeber. -
Quote:I'm grining from ear to ear.A few of you have made comments about the RP aspects of this merger, so Id like to discuss that a bit.
Influence and Infamy have always encompassed more than just the kindness and goodwill of the citizens of Paragon and the fear and terror which allows you to extort denizens of the Rogue Isles. Yes, some if of it is actual resources which can be taken with you. Its also assumed that if you are leaving one city for another that you would cash out and call in every favor youre due on the way out. This is all handled for you behind the scenes, but from an in-character perspective thats effectively whats going on.
If you feel as though some of that goodwill and extortion earned is something you shouldnt be able to take with you, stay tuned to Going Rogue information for something in this vein. However, it will not be INF in any fashion.
As for the Market Merge, two recent developments in Primal Earth are responsible for this change:
One is the sudden emergence of a large number of fallen heroes and redeemed villains moving between the spheres of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, calling neither place home. These powered individuals live in shades of grey, and facilitate the trading of goods and services in secret between the two worlds.
The other is not quite such common knowledge. Out of nowhere, Wentworths has gained access to new suppliers, but all suspicions and investigations have been stymied by the immaculate paperwork of their new partners. Likewise, the Black Market has suddenly seen a rise in activity, though no one has looked too closely at the why so long as the goods are solid. For now, it remains a mystery.
Hmmm....

To all those who made logical arguments and fought for this: Thanks!!!!
WOO HOO!!!
EDIT: To Altholic, you'll now be buying stuff from villains. Be afraid! -

Quote:They are not held back. If some of these powers were allowed by support ats to be used on themselves, they would be nerfed into the ground.Would agree if i was using pvp as a heavy stand point, but as i said before it's one of the most apperant. Full team in CoH/V =noone is important just a bunch of bodies (thats in both Pvp and pve)
Anywho what im saying is Support characters should be allowed to use their powers to the full extent and stop being held back, i dont see any other AT's being held back from using the full potential of their AT, support should not be forced to do so just because they lack someone to be a slave to. -
LOL, don't you guys know it's soooooo harrrd to make inf in this game!!!!
/sarcams off.
Good job Fury. -
/signed on warnings for them.

Quote:The original version had the chance of the effect of death? Who on Earth thought that would have been good thing? Seriously?well i'm sure this has been brought up. I thought the original reason there was a prompt was because the power could give out a negative effect (death) so you could opt out of that chance for risk. Now that there is no negative effect from death (i know some people don't like the fool, but it's not the worse buff in the world) I don't see a reason to have the prompt anymore, i was happy it was gone. I don't care that it is there either.
RPer's, aside from the rare case where your character has a severe distaste for magic...you can't explain this away? Where odds are you team or interact with magical personages everyday? I don't really see a reason for having the pop-up anymore. I see even less reason to complain about it.
flame on.
This has to be one of the worst temp powers EVER thought through. Or in this case NOT thought through at all.
Luckily saner minds prevailed and that didn't arrive in the final version.
Back on topic:
I don't care either way if there is or isn't a prompt. The buffs/debuffs are so miniscule most of my characters hardly notice them.
HOWEVER, put me down in the camp that's glad that Castle is forwarding it to the UI team so that folks can just auto enable or disable it if they want.
The fact that the animation is now bugged for this thing is humorous.
This temp power is starting to turn into the techincal drama that oil slick was. -
Quote:Actually I found the response pretty amusing and on point, since, I would assume by now everyone knows that GR is only levels 1-20. Some how I don't think it'll solve the "villains being treated like lackey issue", since there really isn't any new content in the Rogue Isles.... I'm just going to assume from here on out that you are quite simply the greatest troll who has ever lived. It's more pleasant than the alternative.
On topic: I'm glad people like Ghost Widow. I'm glad whenever people find something to like in this game.
Just saying. -
I didn't see it the first time, so /signing this now.

Quote:It is indeed worth less than rolling randomly.Ideally, choosing a recipe should be worth less on average monetarily than rolling randomly. It's the easy way out - you eliminate any risk (even if 10 rolls on average would net more than 200 merits, it wouldn't always), you make less effort and you don't do anything to help overall supply. Fine - if you really want to ensure you get what you want, take the purchase route. But do so knowing that 7 times out of 10 you'd have made out better the other way.
Has anyone ever crunched numbers (using market prices vs the random roll project numbers) to see if it's even close?
If I buy something for 200 to 250 merits, I might make like 200 to 300 mil.
If I were to roll those, I could get multiple items that make me 200 to 300 mil multiple times.
This for the average joe is pointless, as they:
1. don't want to mess with the market
2. don't want to spend all the time crafting the items they didn't want
3. Could care less about making inf and just want that one item.
Of course for 3, if they did craft a few they could probably buy that item several times over, depending on their rolls.

Quote:Just curiosity. In my experience, far fewer, but I don't have the numbers listing how many of each SF/TF get run. You still have to complete that TF if you want the Geas of the Kind Ones accolade or at least beat up Mary MacComber for the witch's hat or free Katie's soul for Amy's Ward. It's not without its shinies.
Also, I'm not quite sure why you asked that question. -
Quote:heh. Clever goat.Since I view a merger as an inevitability once all their half-measures fail miserably, I'll disagree....just because there are viable alternatives to forced rolls.
=D
True enough.
to be even more honest I have as much faith in them getting the market/economy perfect in this game as I do in me winning the lottery.
Love the game, love the devs, but market design is not something they are good at (*cough* I17 market interface *cough*)

Quote:Annnnd how many calls for Katies are there now compared to then?Adding my itty-bitty voice to those asking to allow players to select the level for their merit rolls.
Now, on to my irrelevant opinion: I think both the pre-merit TF rewards system and the post-merit version are flawed. Speed Katies, Edens and Tarikoss runs gave rewards disproportionate to the time investment (and may have created a glut of certain receipes). However, the current merit system, along with other factors, helped create a lack of Pool C drops, especially at certain levels. Replacing one flawed system with another didn't work, and kudos to those coming up with new suggestions. -
Quote:Not necessarily. I think they weigh the level of grief. You're saying if a bunch of players think something is a nerf the devs would NEVER do it?
That's an interesting perspective.
The amount of grief for not implementing a forced roll is probably less than doing so.
EDIT: To be serious I think the likelyhood of forced rolls is as likely as a merged market. -
Quote:it's not my suggestion. was just trying to recap what the suggestion was.So your suggestion is to essentially force people to make a conscious decision to save up merits rather than roll. Making the roll becomes the path of least resistance, however those who wish to save up can still do so by clicking "Do not roll."
In that case I have one additional suggestion: make it a small pop up and not the usual reward table that takes up your entire screen.
my suggestion: NOTHING about random rolls needs to change EXCEPT being able to pick the level of the roll. Also someone made two other good points above that I /signed. too lazy to re-post it.
EDIT: I wouldn't care if its large or the size of a small pop up. -
Quote:Gotcha.Since I am the some others, I'd like to address this. My understanding was that you would offer a random roll instead of the entire merit reward of a TF granting 20 or more merits. Now, if the idea instead was to grant all the merits, but also immediately give the option to roll 20 of them for a recipe, I'd be fine with that. In general, I'd be fine with notifying players as soon as they have 20 or more merits available that they can roll a recipe, and letting them do so right there and then. However, giving people the option to trade more than 20 merits for a random roll is what I would consider a bait and switch for the ignorant.
Just so we are all on the same page, my understanding of the suggestion was:
1. Pop-up WHENEVER (arc, tf, etc) you get up to 20 merits.
2. You take the random rolls you can, and have merits left over. (if you have multiples of 20 merits).
3. You don't take ANY random rolls you keep all your merits.
4. NOTHING is forced.
Someone correct me if I'm misunderstanding.
