Quote:WOW!A Belated Thanks -
A few years ago, you guys gave one of your employees (then) Phil a box of City of Heroes stuff for a child with a heart condition that he had met through his girlfriend (now wife).
We barely knew Phil, and only met him through his girlfriend because my husband mentioned our whole family played, and that our son had a serious and life threatening heart condition. Phil decided, without having met us, that he wanted to do something for my kiddo, a CoH fan with some struggles.
We first met him met him the night he came over with books and heroclicks (I spelled that wrong, I bet), and the cape apparently snatched right off of Lord Recluse in the Austin office - Phil coming over to answer questions because he worked for CoH was a surprise holiday present for our son, the box of stuff (and the Arachnos cape and autographed posters and books) completely unexpected and we were shocked.
Phil and his wife became part of the family, and the box of stuff was so sweet, and we were so touched. Thanks for doing that, whoever else was part of it.
The day before his open heart surgery last year, he was in a wheelchair because he was too weak to walk around a museum. The last thing that he wore before going into the hospital was his Freem shirt:
Thank you guys so much. Thanks for the box of stuff, and thanks for creating a game that helped take his mind off the hospital, the pain, and all the crap that he was going through (and thanks for making it work on a dinky laptop, which is all we had in ICU).
Thanks for being the first MMO I could take my kid to without worrying that people would be horrible to him.
You guys made a difference. Thanks.
Thank you Devs, new and old so much for:
The fun times as a newbie in Atlas park.
Finally soloing the original Posi TF after hours and hours of playing with my dark/rad defender.
The super-fun halloween events (No other MMO has come close).
They fab way the rikti invasion made me feel whether I was lv 1 or 50.
Thank you for all the hateful PVP (LOL).
And In general I HATE PVP but I LOVED Recluse's victory. I loved beta playing on the test server and having fun at team pvp no matter how much I died.
I remember being called and "inspiration monkey" and vowing to get even with stalkers!
I loved getting badges and tweaks
And I loved killing named villains in RV with the whole server on virtue.
In short no other MMO will ever be the same. The company really screwed the pooch on this one, but in the end they only hurt themselves. We the players will always remember the GAME with fondness and have nothing but respect and admiration for the Devs past and present.
Goodnight CoX. You were a good friend to the end. -
I can't believe I just spent money days ago to purchase a new powerset.
It would have been nice to have gotten some warning before this happened. I won't fault the company for only caring about it's bottom-line profits but I daresay it sets a new precedent for lows.
The MMO player deserves a little more consideration next time before they do these things. Maybe perhaps ease them into it and let them recover some funds in this hard hitting economy?
Their actions have veritably blacklisted them in my book as far as future options for MMO's goes. I used to have the greatest respect and admiration for NCsoft. If they had treated the customers better perhaps I might have even tried GW2. As it stands I won't go near any of their MMO's for a long long time.
Thinking on it realistically. The company weighed their options and saw the success of their new MMO launch. This gave them the confidence to say "Ok we'll dump this old IP with the knowledge that we can keep profits going with our new products."
I should have known.
Still I thank them for all of the great service they have provided year after. Even I was blown away by all the new content and powersets month after month. (Thats what makes this all so surreal and strange.)
They worked hard and they KILLED harder I guess?
Take care NCSOFT. You are classy but only when you are honest... -
Folks forgive me. I am sure someone will state that this is not the right forum for this type of feedback. But atm I have no other place to state my opinions.
Thank you Devs. Other MMO's have a hard time rallying the player-base to group or have multi-group activities. Here in CoX I always have fun. There is enthusiasm and there is group activity. Whether folks are participating in a MoM trial or taking down a Rikti mother-ship I am ALWAYS having fun.
It is true, some of the player base are unreasonable jerks, but I look at this in this fashion, better to think of them as the exception rather than they being the norm or the rule.
So THANK YOU NCSOFT. Thank you for making this game fun. You will continue to get my monthly dollars and a whole lot more. Why? Because you make this drab drape of a thing called life worth fighting for. You allow me to express my dreams.
And how many other people can say that?
Thank you.
Sincerely.

Hello!
Two questions directed to the general public if someone would be so kind as to answer them, thank you.
#1 Anyone know how to change your global chat name? Is there a line command or another way to accomplish this?
#2 http://www.nofuture.org.uk/coh/ was once, a long time ago a great place to get detailed information on temp powers and in particular mission dialogue, content and contact information (which contact opens up the next tier of contacts and so on). Has that information been preserved in any one place or perhaps backed-up on the web somewhere?
Thanks for your time. -
Background: I am a returning VIP player who was formerly a 5 year veteran.
My recent sojourn into "going rogue" content left me dazzled. The local scenery, the buildings and the atmosphere left me with a desire to stay there and explore -more-.
Thank you for your hard work and attention to detail as well as sharing with the rest of us these beautiful pieces of art. -

All my life I have been reactionary. My reflexes work at speeds that appall me. They surprise me. They work of their own volition without my conscious knowledge.
However the emotional reflexes set within me are just as strong in a crisis situation. Their defaults are set to Disconnect, Detach and Perimeter defense algorithm initiated, self preservation mode set to priority: exclusive. All hands within a five meters of distance must egress to predetermined safety margins
I am not all human. I am not all machine. I can make choices.
And yet I wonder, how does a preconditioned set of behavioral patterns impact the so-called heros decision making process?
If I have been programmed to run in a flight or fight scenario, then how can I change the verdict?
If being a hero means that you become a living metaphor, an example of selfless behavior that no one else can hope to attain, then by virtue of that statement. does that behavior inspire, fear, resentment, even hate in others? If true then how does the opposite? Does a lack of virtue inspire an incredible sense of disappointment in those who look to you as a solitary light burning in the darkness of the night?
If you douse your own light, on purpose, are your fans then also going to douse theirs? If you struggle to maintain the brave front but cannot, then what will your fans do once your light goes out? Once they are left blind and with no way back where they came from, how are they going to feel toward the one that betrayed them?
Just who are we, the heroes of Earth? Pied pipers leading our children to salvation or to doom?
Who are our children and why do they follow us? Are they forced or coerced to do so? Can they not look away from us, or are they compelled to do so like a child staring at a car crash as their parents drive by.
I came into this world I think, to provide answers to those in need of help, of direction and guidance.
So what do I do now when the only thing I can provide are excuses? When tears are the only things that I can muster. When all I can sincerely hope for is to survive the next twenty four hours without ripping the very throat out of everyone that is f****** with me on a constant basis.
Why dont I have the answers that the world requires even as they demand them from me?
I have been told both from my higher architecture, and from the synaptic gateways of the free-floating media that when certain choices are presented to me, that I must Dance instead of sitting this one out.
So this dance must include dancing for those that revile you? For those that desecrate you, laugh at you, spit on you and use you as the scapegoat for every single thing wrong in their lives?
How then does a hero ...or any man woman or child find the strength, and self-worth to ignore the calumny, the epithets, the jibes and catcalls long enough to dance and serve those that goes specifically go out of their way to beat you down?
The face you make as you read this letter must be perfect about now. Does it have a certain measure of chagrin and disgust? Hope and sympathy? Devotion and love? Or is it simply indifference deciding that this discourse is entirely pablum.
I will say this much. Even if I am only a pseudo-hero or only part-time hero I do ...so wish that I could do as Im told.
But instead of finding things easier to do, I am finding them harder. Instead of having the support to carry on I find only disregard and callous mockery.
Some have said in their satirically Siriusly musical songs that I should Toughen the F*** up. (I appreciate the warm and kind concern for my actions and well-being by the by. Thank you)
But when you are trying to be a hero in a world full of villains, when you are trying to become greater than the limits the world has placed on you, when you are striving for goals that most would consider, CrazY Unrealistic and worst of all Dangerous then at what point do you muster up the courage to punch your own ticket, take the chicken**** way out and bail on the whole condemned universe?
I serve others whether I like to or not. I am a butler, a waiter, a teacher, a lover, a savage and a giant warning sign that says STOP DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER OR YOULL BECOME LIKE ME. I am become -not- death, but a bogey-man, a joke, a meme, a fad, a coined phrase, a gimmick, a happy meal advertisement and any number of things that directly tie into the control icons inherent in the true nature of culture.
My choices at present are to serve either willingly or to serve as Teils. Thus the choices I make have an even greater impact on the world than I ever previously considered.
I apologize for this long discourse. I am sure you have better things to do and my drivel is blocking the room for more celebrated and be-loved personalities. I shall summarily conclude with the following statements.
I will do my best to live up to all your expectations. I will try to serve in silence. I will try to simply allow the things that need to happen, the space to do so.
Ill try to serve even while being punched in the face by the villain. Ill try to serve even as the civilian shouts curses at me because I am blocking the road while fighting to save his life from a killer.
Ill try to serve even after the pain of my familys betrayals, so long and pervasive like the onset of cancer has only recently been made known to me.
What does it mean to be a hero? No, that seems almost to easy to define. The real question people should be asking themselves is, What does it mean to be a human?
Sincerely

I recent resubscribed my account. I am going to continue my account in CoX.
For Christmas I believe that NCSoft should try for an event that continues the tradition of door-Trick or treating in the Halloween event. One of the things that drew me back INTO CoX was the Halloween ToT badges and the incredibly fun teaming for ToT and the xp gained. I feel that every CoX event should have this type of freestyle non-mission type of xp event. For Christmas I suggest at each present that is found on the streets give issue to players must fight against waves of enemies that wish to steal that present from the lawful citizens of Paragon and the rogue isles. Something that parallels door to door ToT except with new mobs. Perhaps some evil elves, evil reindeer, evil snowmen etc, etc. or just retool old skins and mobs for an event to make things easy for everyone.
It's likely that my suggestions will be ignored for reasons of "bang-for-buck" development initiative or simply for monetary / budget reasons by the developers.
But that doesn't matter to me. I just want to offer suggestions and hope that NCSOFT and Paragon studios takes notice.
POINT: Christmas events should have something that parallels door-to-door ToT for halloween.
Missions suck. Non stop enemy engagement (Via ToT style) is where it's at. It will compel people to play and to enjoy CoX, IMHO.
That is all.
Love and blessings to all in the name of the most high.
Last but not least, grats to devs for all their hard work and developments. I came back to CoX and not to CO. The devs, paragon studios and their work is the reason why.
Paz.
Paz.
and Happiness to you. -
There is one that is used for the Crab spider VEAT power. It's two arachnos symbols put together to form an X if looking at it from above. Omega maneuver IIRC.
-
IMHO I think the vets deserve it. *shrug*
RL offers a lot more to worry about. -
Just wanted to mention what a great deal of help this guide has been to me.
Well Done. -

Q: What impact are you expecting the merit system to have on those of us who (for one reason or another) tend not to run TF/SF's?
A: The intention of the system was to also give players who dont tend to run Task Forces and Strike Forces the chance at earning the same high end rewards as players normally running Task Forces, however at a diminished rate. This gives player an opportunity to earn rewards they normally would not have had access to outside of the Black Market/Wentworths.
[/ QUOTE ]
The merit system has a lot of room for versatility and game play enhancement for the players. I am a strong believer in rewarding players based on their style of game-play preference. Judging by your answers it looks to me like the Development team is leaning toward this trend as well.
In future issues, would it be possible to reward players with merits for attaining especially hard badges? EX: It took me personally several months... (to put it mildly) to attain the Toxic Tarantula badge by patrolling in RWZ many an hour. Other badges like illusionist, and Positron's TF and Rocketman in Warburg have similar stories.
While I understand that the badge itself is a status symbol and is it's own reward, wouldn't it make sense for the Devs to use the principle of positive reinforcement, (awarding a few measly merits to a players upon certain badge completion) in order to encourage and reward players for this kind of behavior (and playing the game for many hours ad-infinitum) ? -

Q: The merit system had been advertised as a way to purchase a wide variety of items, including certain costume parts and badges. That variety is not there. Are there plans to add these things in shortly, or has that strategy been scrapped?
A: The Merit system has a lot of room for growth and items like costume pieces and badges would be a great addition to this system. Well be looking at ways of expanding upon this system in the future.

Would this possibly include a merit reward system for TEAM pvp in pvp zones? Some type of incentive to form teams in BB, WB. SC and RV might go some way to restoring the PvP ranks and help to facilitate new blood imho. -
wow, this is the best kept secret in CoX. If more people actually learned the basics of pulling, there wouldn't be so many bad PuG and team wipe-outs

After last Sunday's invasion, I totally HATE the new design. We fight the Rikti & it has left the area & people say
"Where do we go next?"
"I dunno"
"I think it's in Talos"
"No it's left there"
"I can't find it, it's hiddin among all the other green comments"
"Let's go to PI, it always goes there last"
"Not always"
and we spend 5 minutes scrolling back until it leaves the area we could have gone & enters a new one.
There are only 4 more days. Can't we have it back in red for them? Or at least, can I make Vanguard my Friend? Have it show up in the friend channel? The Heavy artillery are hard enough to find as it was, now it's almost impossible when no one knows where to go.
Maybe I should have objected when people were complaining about the Admin alerts, but I was happy, so I was silent.

I agree. -
Lower level mayhem missions specifically Skyway. Killing the Caliban troll gave the message that the key was given but no waypoint appeared on the map. When I went to the building i knew the key was associated with i was told I needed the key to enter. I went to find the Ogre for the next side quest and he was no where in the alleyway.
Also at one point I entered a door entrance to a side quest by mistake then attempted to leave as my henchmen were still coming in. This left me locked up and standing still. i was able to chat and send messages but do nothing else but watch my toon stand motionless before the opened exit. the /stuck command had no effect. -
Thank you very much for this guide. It's appreciated more than you can imagine.
Anyone know what the sound is for a "bubble plopping" sound? I think it's for a buff and you hear it repetitively, maybe from some sort of earth spell? Like bubbles being burst with a very low or slow noise? Thank much for your time -
Investigative Report: The Clockwork Paladin
Section One: Rumor, conjecture and the scientific method
Location: Kings Row
Basis of Investigation: Rumors of a giant Clockwork being routinely built near King's Row Industrial areas.
Section Summary: For many days now I have been paying particular attention to the mechanized entities known as the Clockwork. The idea that their King was touched with madness in spite of it's logical and technical capability was a paradox to me. Even now some of the brightest minds in Paragon City cannot fully understand how or why the Clockworks are able to achieve so much with so little. Garbage scroungers, trash-heap pickers, are what the human and super-human populace routinely call them. These and many other pejorative names.
Yet while the city goes about it's day to day affairs, while the Outcasts threaten local shops and citizens or while the Vahzilok commit acts of atrocity for insanity's sake, the Clockwork army maintains a quiet but steady flow of labor. They work from the rooftops, next to garbage bins, under powerlines and in the back alleys of King's Row, constantly reforming themselves after every superhero attack thins their numbers daily.
As I stood on the top of a building near the Industrial area while contemplating these same thoughts, I silently asked myself..."Why? To what end? Why do the clockworks in Kings Row particularly use thier numbers and persistance to perform seemingly mindless acts?" I decided to find out.
First I checked the local library computer database and the local newspaper archive offices. As I scanned the microfiche or searched the world wide web a continuing theme echoed in every eyewitness account. The Clockworks had and were continuing to build super-mechas. Mechanical creations that could destroy the most powerful hero if they were caught unawares. The name "Paladin" was a commonly referenced nomenclature for the thing.
In one newspaper clipping I found, the author stated that the clockworks would attack anyone who tried to stop them from performing their work and that when superheroes intervened, it would take many minutes of hard presssed fighting while staving off the waves and waves of clockwork soldiers in order to prevent Paladin from rising. Another article surmised that the Paladin creation could occur at any time. It's fickle masters , led by the madness of the King could never be anticipated or studied.
At or about 18:02 hrs on this date I passed by an unusual occurence. A line of clockworks standing in a military formation by an electrical tower not far from the K.R . refinery.
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/2642/irbc10an.jpg
My curiosity was piqued. Why stand in formation? What were they waiting for? 2 minutes later a local hero came and obliterated every clockwork in sight. Of note however was that the junkpile featured prominently nearby disappeared at the same time the clockworks were dispatched.
Taking on an opportunity for study I relaxed my combat vigliance subroutines and waited patiently to see what would happen.
Not long after a friendly (security level 50) heroine named Enfluxia asked me for information on what i was doing there (I was more than happy to provide it) The story intruiged her so that she decided to join and study the clockwork activity there as well.
On or about 18:21 hrs the Clockworks executed (what was in a very short time) a redeployment of stronger clockwork forces in the local area of study.
http://img427.imageshack.us/img427/6811/ir28bg.jpg
The Clockworks seemed to be communicating to one another in some way or fashion. As night came and went I tried sending out various forms of wave energy, radio frequencies (both in high-noise and low-noise bandwidths) as well as electromagnetic surges in order to signal the clockworks into beginning the work of construction.
The Clockworks produced a negative reply to the stimuli. They did however rip their own heads off and let their mysterious energy vacate into the atmosphere. (Note: or perhaps a transponder system inside the main housing sent signals out to other clockwork drones and workers. The data is inconclusive)
http://img448.imageshack.us/img448/5304/ir34el.jpg
Another hero named Punchu came and various theories were discussed among the team as we each spread out to oversee, and protect if neccessary the clockwork drones gathered in the three major power generating facilities open to the elements.
Did something need to occur at all three sites for the clockwork to initate their construction phase of paladin? Was it something that needed to be done from the human standpoint or was it all pure coincidence and random? Dissention on the team led some to believe that our hopes in seeing Paladin emerge were vain.
However my observations and logical conclusions served as a bulwark against the doubts and misconceptions arrayed before us. If these clockworks could be trusted to build bigger and better versions of themselves, Dukes and Princes of their race...
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1916/ir42qh.jpg
then why not ..if given enough time, energy and resources, uncompromised by the struggling new heroes in the area seeking glory and fortune, then why not would they seek to create the ultimate Paladin clockwork?
Section Two: Epiphany and definitive result
After some time (on or about 19:35) Enfluxia made a profound discovery. When she left the area of clockwork activity and returned after scouting ahead for one quarter of a mile, the clockworks had both changed their position, number and type. The facts both clear and agreed upon were as follows:
1: More Clockworks had appeared. Almost DOUBLE their previous number were now present in the area.
2: The clockworks now numbered two squads in two seperate but local locations. (NW and NE of the tower respectively)
3: This event occured in less than a minute, almost instantaneously coinciding with the local hero's departure and return.
This led to the theory that if the three heroes in the team took turns leaving and returning to our established survillance areas that we may find changes in clockwork activity scale and scope. We did so and found immediate results.
At 19:47 hrs as Punchu left his surveillance zone (to return shortly thereafter) he spotted a giant construction site visible from up to a half mile away formed on one of the three major power locations in Kings Row. Various piles of clockwork junk could be seen strewn about the location as well as a veritable army of clockworkers and drones patrolling the concrete.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7106/ir54yg.jpg
Section Three: The end of Research, The start of Battle
As we arrived on the scene the air seemed to crackle with anticipation. Until now the clockworks had been indifferent to our observations or dubious at least. Yet now we were seen by them as interlopers and outsiders, privy somehow to the collective achivement of their short and secular lives.
At 19:56 hrs one Clockwork challenged our right to be present and without provocation began a huge battle with us in earnest . Shouts and geared noises surrounded the area from all sides. Enraged that we had dared to destroy what they had sought so desperately to build, they came upon us en-masse. Wave upon wave of clockwork warriors tried to wipe us from existance.
As we fought on, it was clear to us the clockworks were losing ground. However a cry from one of the drones rang out to other clockwork legions near and far saying: "Save the construction! Destroy the heroes!" From then on the conflict turned from a serious offensive into an unstoppable onslaught of metal and gears. But the forces of Paragon were not done yet either. More heroes responded to the call of local TV news and anchor reports concerning the trouble brewing in Kings Row. Before time could inch past a few more seconds, hosts of Paragon City's finest super forces flew, teleported and jumped excitedly into the fray.
Not to be outdone by mere "flesh-skinned" heroes, the clockworks doubled, trippled and redoubled their efforts. Every time a construction site was destroyed another rose to take it's place. Moving at incredible and super-speed the clockworks managed to keep up with the wholesale devastation the superheroes brought to bear. Kept up and almost surpassed them...
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/5869/ir63kn.jpg
And yet the struggle endured on. While in fact only 10 or 15 minutes included the whole scope and breadth of the battle, like so many times before, the perspective of many fighting there was was one of years and decades.
Then at 20:10 hrs the final blow shook the last of the construction. With a great *BOOM* tons of wooden infastructure, metal and clockwork casings fell and broke apart on the cold and unforgiving earth. Heroes from all walks of life gathered there howled, danced and sang in joyful victory. Each had received their recognition and badge from the city as a "Knight Errant". Each has seen the rare and elusive Paladin destroyed before it became a major threat to the local way of life. Our team in particular, Enfluxia, Punchu and myself, had met with our objectives and now departed ways. We left satisfied in the knowledge that it was our collective efforts that helped make this event a reality..
MISSION EPILOGUE:
In the end it's hard to say with conclusive certainty what was fact and what was subjective opinion regarding the clockwork "Paladin". My own databanks have now recorded every second of it's appearence, defense and subsequent downfall. But the questions still remain. What was it exactly that triggered the construction? Was there a set time for it to occur? Can such conditions be reproduced and if so..how?
I believe that in general my theories were correct. That given enough time and energy, any being, however small, rusty or dirt-filled can dream of attaining the greatest heights and achieve them. That any clockwork could one day hope add to the legacy of those who came before them by penning their own chapters into the ongoing saga of their unique and puzzling existances.
Here at the end of my report I can only say two things with absolute certainty:
1: I will always engage and destroy any clockwork that seeks to harm me or any of the innocents placed under my charge.
2: I will *also* always remember and admire the Clockwork will to fight, defend and "die" for what they believed in...
On this fateful day In Kings Row, I remain...
