Big congrats, Magenta and Vortex!
And great costumes everyone...there were some really nice ones out there.
I had a great time participating and will definitely come out next year.
Now, to find some way of debilitating Magenta so he can't go to the finals and I can take his place...hmmm... -
Quote:I'm not completely averted to grabbing a PPP, but was kind of jazzed about the extra defense from stealth, the regen from phys perfection, and the +tohit and +acc from FA. I had Darkest Night on an EA brute years ago and it felt underwhelming to me. Has it been changed in the past few years?Do you have an aversion to picking up a PPP? Brute Soul Mastery doesn't have Shadow Meld, but it does have Darkest Night. IMO, that's almost as useful.
As far as the builds workshop section goes, not a lot of people use it. It was a good idea, but the builds being posted in AT forums are far too well established.
Edit:
I've loaded up your build in Mids, and I kind of see what you are trying to do. I think there are more efficient ways to build a Claws/Regen Brute though. I'm going to try and cobble together a build for you to look at. It might be better for you, it might not. At least it will give you something to look at.
2nd Edit:
I have run into problems with my theory from limitation of slots. Your build is pretty good, but I think Focused Accuracy and Quick Recovery are way overslotted. Some of your attacks could use the extra slots if you take some out of there.
I can see where QR might be overslotted, but I was just treating it as a mule to get the efficacy adaptor bonuses. I'll try allocating those slots elsewhere and see what comes out.
But is FA truly overslotted? My experience with the power is that it's a ridiculous end hog, so I'll need all the end redux I can get. I also thought having tha Gaussian's proc in it would mean I constantly had a chance to be hit with a big dmg buff, so there's a plus. And then, the reason I went full slotting was for the nice defense set bonuses from having all six pieces. Are these meager goals compared to what could be achieved should I use those slots elsewhere?
Thanks for the feedback, Vauluur. I'm curious to see a build from you if you have time to make one that implements the changes you've proposed. -
True enough. I took Revive on my /regen scrapper for concept purposes, but it's not needed here. Besides, the point of making these build is to have a character who only dies once in a blue moon, so I suppose I could get some more use out of another power.
-
Somehow I totally missed the Build Workshop section of the forums. Should I post this build there instead? I thought I'd sen most everyone just posting builds in the Archetype forums.

Hello, Brutes!
I've been working on a Claws/Regen brute as I never played one as a scrapper back when they were all the rage. I currently have a DM/Regen scrapper who went the Shadow Meld route and he's a blast. I'm gonna be curious to compare him to /regen on a Brute, i.e. Shadow Meld vs. higher HP cap.
Anyway, I'd appreciate some feedback or suggestions if anyone is so inclined.
Thanks!

Just wanted to close off this thread and say that, since I posted a few days ago, I've implemented this build and it's great fun to play.
If anyone should come to this thread in the future looking for a fun and not-terribly-expensive DM/Regen build, I highly recommend something like the build I'll post below. (If I'm calculating right, it only cost me about 800mill give or take, bidding over 3-4 days, and using merits and Astrals for the really expensive pieces).
I ran the remainder of Ghost Widow's patron arc tonight with a friend on +2/x8 and it was a breeze. He's no AoE machine, but if you like hard, single-target, fast-firing attack chains, this is definitely a combination to look at. I also went into a friend's AE mission and soloed Bobcat and Tyrant to really stress-test it. There really weren't too many "oh crap!" moments (I am by no means an AV-soloer at heart, so I was a little out of my comfort zone), and after considerable amounts of time I was able to bring them both down (separately, of course).
Feel free to comment if you see something that could be improved, but for the time being I'm happy with what I have. Hopefully someone else can get some use out of this build as well.

Quote:I'd recommend away from a DM/Self-Empathy, since the bonus mitigation from DM is akin to your secondary. Grab a Defense-set instead (/EA, /Shield, /SR) and go to town.
This character has been lvl 50 for a few years now, and I'm just now renaming him and giving him an overhaul. So...yeah, I'm stuck with DM/Regen (not that I think that's a problem). I may roll a DM/SR at some point, but for now DM/Regen is what I have. Plus, hopefully, if I'm able to get my recharge high enough I'll have SR levels of defense a good bit of the time anyway.
Anyone else have any thoughts? -
Hey, scrappers!
I've been making some builds I'm pretty happy with recently, and I was just curious what you experts would have to add to some of them. One of these builds is my DM/Regen, Red Hex, whom I'm working on currently.
I just read the DM/Regen thread started by SickSadisticBomb and was curious to see if my build was up to par with what can be done with /Regen scrappers these days.
A few notes:
-I'm going for the alternating Shadow Meld/MoG/Instant Healing/Whichever Destiny I end up going with (thinking Barrier), so the build is focused on recharge, as I've read and experienced a /regen toon should be.
-I'm trying to steer clear of purples and PvPs. I have the cash (and other means) to get them, but I'd just rather not spend the cash on a toon that will most likely end up being one I run solo the majority of the time.
Thanks in advance for any input you can offer!

Yeah, I'm the only one on at that time of night. There is one other computer connected to the same router, but it's connected wirelessly and it is usually in sleep mode by that time at night. I even just went ahead and turned it off when the delay happened one night and it didn't fix it.
-
Quote:Yeah, I'm still thinking the same too... it's probably just something I'm overlooking here. Though I've made sure when it's happening that it's not some scheduled security sccan or something running in the background. And again, I've checked other MMOs when the delay starts in CoH and it's not present in those games. How? Did you check the netgraph? If so, what did it look like? That really sounds like something external affecting your connection.
I just did a speed test at speedtest.net to "check my connectivity." I'll be the first to admit I don't know what I'm talking about, so I'll check it some other way if it would help figure out what's wrong. I'd have to be told how to do it though.
When the delay sets in (again, always late at night), it affects every map and every power. And not just powers, but actions like talking to contacts and crafting.
I've asked some friends and they say it's possible, but I'm still not sure: do you guys think that maybe my internet company somehow lowers the signal strength or the bandwidth or something after the "peak hours" have settled down? That may just be me being paranoid, though.
Thanks for the responses! -
Heya folks.
I'm contacting support on my own to try and get some help, but I just wanted to survey the playerbase and see if anyone else is having this problem.
Starting around midnight every night (Eastern), I start getting a strange delay between the time I press a button and the time the power activates. Sometimes it can be as bad as 2-3 seconds, but usually it's just a 1-2 second delay.
When I first experienced the problem, I naturally assumed it was on my end. But now I've done everything I can think of to fix it and it's still not going away:
-I checked my connectivity...everything was fine (though the connection itself is kind of slow...but I don't have any problems during "prime time" playing hours).
-I made sure I had all the latest video, audio, and mobo drivers.
-I lowered the graphics as low as they'll go.
When none of this worked, I went and checked if the delay was present in any other MMOs I play and it wasn't. Every other game is perfectly responsive. No delay between the time I activate a power and the time the character actually executes the action in the game.
Just to clarify, I have NO lag issues, NO rubber-banding, and movement is completely unaffected. The delay is only present for power activation, chat, and any other action within the game such as talking to contacts, opening doors, selling items, etc.
I've been trying to fix this myself for a few months, and I wouldn't bring it up here unless I was completely clueless as to what this might be or how I can fix it.
So is anyone having this problem? If you are (or even if you aren't) do you have any tips for me on how I can fix it?
Thanks a lot! -
Quote:I'd like to reiterate this point.Directly related to the replaced Steampunk tops- the original Steampunk jackets (the Classic Steampunk01 vest, to be exact) included a high (wing?) collar and a bowtie as part of the jacket. That's gone now, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get a comparable costume piece- definitely not if you want to keep any piece of shoulder armour, for example.
I'd kind of like to be able to edit my steampunk costume, but I can't, now, without losing the bowtie and period collar- and the 'dress shirt2' option looks... sunken, and kind of silly... if used to replace it. And the bowtie option for the shoulders is poofy, shiny, and looks out of place with the steampunk stuff (and I'd prefer to keep my pauldrons, thank you very much).
Prior to Issue 21 and Freedom, I had a character who used what is now called "Victorian Steampunk Vest 01" as his jacket and the Victorian Ascot/Shirt came with it underneath the vest. Now, post i21, I have to choose the Victorian Ascot/Shirt as a chest detail (now called Victorian Steampunk 01 under chest details), therefore not allowing me to have the Vest, Ascot, and a separate chest emblem on the vest at the the same time.
In the spirit of "not taking anything away, only adding things" to the game, I'd like to see this fixed in any upcoming issues.
Thanks! -
I hope I'm not breaking any rules of the contest by posting this, but since people are wondering if the winners have been selected and who won...
I got an email yesterday and was selected as one of the ten winners!
Here's my entry, a pic of my main character, Parthenon. He's an alien banished from his homeworld who found Athena's battle armor in a hidden shrine underneath the ancient temple. Now he fights proudly for Paragon, Earth, and Olympus as Athena's champion and a loyal member of Fusion Force on the Triumph server.

Rocket Board
This power is purchasable from the Paragon Market and offers a sleek and stylish way to fly around Paragon City, the Rogue Isles or Praetoria. This flight power has great maneuverability and higher flight speed than Fly! All powers are disabled while traveling on the Rocket Board.
Does this mean the Rocket Board is faster than the base flight speed, or faster than the fly speed cap? -
Quote:Well, I didn't fully disregard the option, but I was in a hurry to join some friends for the BAF and I clicked Helper without realizing it would give me that title. I thought I would just be flagged as someone willing to help in searches... or something.
Now at this point you'll be tempted to click as fast you can to make it go away but please, resist that urge, we promise it's worth it!
Question is: is there a way to turn the title off? It's... well, it's rather annoying to be honest, having "Helper" floating above my name all the time. I am perfectly willing to help a new player out in any way I can, but the aesthetic of the title is troublesome (to me, at least).
Even more than the "Helper" title, I can't imagine even the most green of new players wanting to have "Help me!" above their heads. That's not very heroic.
So can I turn the title off or opt out of the PHS system once I have clicked out of that popup screen at first i20 login? I took a cursory look through the options window and didn't see it if it's there.
Thanks! -
Oh no, that's not what I meant at all. I was referring to myself, actually.
I was assuming that, since my post count is so low, no one knows who I am, and I just show up all of a sudden with a Panacea for sale, other people might fear that I was just phishing for someone to rip off.
I just noticed that people were getting others to vouch for them and mentioning that they were trustworthy, so I figured I should do the same. In fact, my initial impression was that this wouldn't be an issue, so I'm fully confident that everyone here wouldn't dream of "taking the money and running" so to speak.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. -
The IO has been sold in Wents.
Thanks for your time! -
The IO has been put on the market due to little interest here in this thread.
Could have waited longer I suppose, but I'm anxious to get a new build started for one of my toons and, with the prices seeming to inch up a tad, I decided to go ahead and post it.
I'm honestly not too worried about the listing price, though. So if someone is still interested, let me know and we can work something out.
Also, after looking around this forum, I realized getting ripped off is more of a risk than I imagined it would be.
If you would prefer to hear from someone else that I'm trustworthy for this sort of thing, I'll have some friends post here. I'm a co-leader of Fusion Force on the Triumph server and, AFAIK, have a good reputation with those who know me.
Thanks again.
@Parthenon -
Quote:Since your first paragraph seemed to indicate an openness to price feedback, I'll point out that if you got 1.8 billion in a private deal, you'd be getting 180,000,000 than you would if you sold for 1.8 billion on WW, since you don't have to pay a listing fee. So you're already getting more even if the buyer is paying the same price.
Ah, right. Not having to pay the listing fee was part of the reason I came here...should have accounted for it in my price.
So... 1.6-1.7? Less?
Again, I'm open to negotiation.
@Parthenon -
This is my first time selling a piece privately, off-the-market, so if I overestimate the Wents price to private selling price ratio, bear with me.
Last time I checked (this morning, 2/21/11 at 10:00), these were hovering around 1.8 billion at Wents. So I'm thinking, if someone is interested, we can start negotiating a price from there. I'd like to see a little more, but I'm willing to discuss it further with whomever is interested. The piece is level 50 and crafted.
I rarely check the forums (as my post count can attest), so I'd prefer a PM or email in-game at @Parthenon. Triumph Server (not that it matters, I suppose).
Thanks! -
Anyone know the actual command for the stances? Been using the dropdown emotes window, ut would like to bind them for quick use. I tried /e villainstance1, /e villain stance 1, /e villain_stance_1, /e villain_stance1, etc. and couldn't get any to work. Thanks!

Thanks for all the very kind words, guys.
And great job with the interview, Em!
EDIT: lol, 3 posts. I'm such a newb. :P
