Looking like an across the board server outage. Wasn't sure at first, not all of my characters came up as unknown, trying to log in to a character that was showing Fort Trident came back as "can't launch new maps without a launcher", or something like that. Whatever that means.

It's very likely the file isn't a threat, i've looked through it and i'm very sure that this is a false positive that some AV programs are picking up on. I took a look at ESET's threat encyclopedia (ESET develops NOD32) and found this bit about NewHeur. Something in the code of the update files is probably showing similar coding to that of some basic viruses.
Again, i'm sure the update isn't a threat, or we'd be seeing tons of virus warning posts on the tech support boards by now. -
I searched the boards, this issue has already been brought to light here
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219369
There's more information there, but still no complete or final answer to the issue. -
I too have had this issue, i'm guessing the issue is NOD32, it thinks one of the files is an unknown NewHeur_PE virus, though I have no idea what that is specifically. The file NOD32 quarantined was the tempfile if that helps anything.
In the interest of computer secuirty, i'm not going any further with the update until I know what's up with this. I'm sure it's nothing, but i'm paranoid when it comes to my computer, i've already rebuilt this thing three times thanks to some nasty viruses -
Ok, lets see what we got here.
Entry 1-Rumble on Monster Island: Shows a Plant, a Giant Monster (a few acctually), People using powers, Act of Heroism, and Something Blue (buff icons and costumes, if neither of those work, the sky is blue)
Entry 2-Taking the Fight to Luminary: Shows an Archvillain (Luminary isn't an Archvillain, but she fits the idea I feel, she's difficult to see too, you have to look through my character, you can also see her blue energy melee orbs to the sides), a Plant, a Dead Tree? (Carrion Creepers, do they count for that?), Someone using a power (my character is using Whirling Hands as I took this), Ragdoll Feature (note the defeated Longbow in the back), Someone mezzed, something blue (ice blocks), Something depicting villainy (fighting a signature hero), and a dead player (she's dead through the fog cloud, next to the hostage).
Entry 3-Nuke the Whales!: shows a small boat (if a Submarine counts as small), NPCs doing emotes (if Mastermind pets count), Someone using a power (my toggles are on), Something blue (one of them has a blueish costume on, drowned out by the green aura of a temp power), and Protesters
Entry 4-Aeon Tech: Shows a plant, an NPC doing an emote (handing out pamphlets, he's in the back under the lion statue), a dead tree (maybe), A brick building, someone using powers (my toggles again), a base portal, and something blue (hey, the portal is blue, isn't it?)
Entry 5-Disco Stud!: Shows a plant, a brick building, someone using a power (my character is in the position after executing a Storm Kick), Ragdoll feature, Act of Heroism, and something blue? (that railing looks blue).
That's all I got on short notice, though they're pretty good, especially the Luminary fight picture -

This means that, if we wanted to, we could have an Invention that gave out XP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow. Please don't do that.

No, I'd shoot for that badge invention instead -

Your a very brilliant man..
You want it to stop so you post detailed instructions on how to do it, why don't you add detailed screenshots?
[/ QUOTE ]
I just have to ask, do you realize how old the OP is, and do you realize that the means described no longer work? -
[ QUOTE ]
...Ironically enough, none of our Villain NPCs felt like getting up to kill any of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most likely due to the fact that villains get crap NPCs to guard their gate. I mean, what the hell are level 29 wolf spiders gonna do to that lvl 50/clvl 38 tanker over there? -
Rouge, you do realize that post was 8 months ago when it was possible, right?
Sorry, bit ahead of myself. It's been practically 8 months before this thread was ressurected the other day. Many of the points I had in my OP have been taken care of. Bloody Bay and Siren's Call villain hospitals are no longer open air, drones can now see past invis/phase, there's now a drone inside the warburg hospital, drone recharge rates have been significantly reduced, and drones have been scattered to various camper positions, such as the lighthouse in Randal's Ruins or the surrounding rooftops in Buildville. A drone was also placed in the back area of the Sirens villain hospital. Most, if not all of my original points have been remedied somehow, and this thread really doesn't serve much purpose anymore. Camping still happens, but not in the cheap way that I described way back when. You'll most always get a hero team in the ocean or a villain team outside the hospital. And, as mentioned, that's what the temporary invis powers are good for. -
What the hell? I thought this thing died off a year ago. All right, spill it. Who's the necromancer?

Or roast some heroes if they're looking for the next damage badge.

Fires are definetly the place to get those damage badges, if not enough people are there, that thing blows dealing usually over 100k damage (at least to me) -
I'm glad people see my views, it's interesting why people do this. I ask them sometimes and they say it's just fun. When they camp me, i don't find it fun, primarly 'cause my villain is a MM and my hero is a blaster, but what are you going to do...
It still doesn't make sense why heroes get better security. Honestly, I was using my MM today in sirens and i got attacked by 2 blasters, 2 tanks, 2 defs, a scrap, and an illusion troller. Odd how drones can see through all concelment powers but superior invis and hide. The troller slipped in, went into the back of the sirens hospital, recalled his party members back there, released his decoys on the drone, and tp foed me into his mob when my mercs were dealing with the tanks out front. Thats just un-heroic conduct. First of all, i wasn't trying to fight, i was there hotspot jumping. The problems started when i was forced to back off to the villain base. After they picked me off once, i tried to leave, trying to fight my way out, but they wouldn't let me get past without being held/immobilized/confused/killed. I guess it is true what someone said to me earlier, "Heroes aren't heroes anymore, they've evolved...into bullies."
Shame on you heroes, we may be villains, but we're still human, most of us at least.
Others have also brought up good points, villains may be villains, but should they be allowed to camp for heroes as well? I've heard of eye for an eye, but this is ridiculus. I noticed, as a hero, that some villains, especialy stalkers, typically practice camp too. I enter sirens from steel one day, buy my temporary powers so i can see when a stealthy person will ambush me, and i am ready to go burn some debt i've accumulated from AV missions, instead of pvp. as soon as my 30 second wait goes off, BAM, assassain strike, i'm dead on the ground. usually, i'm not interested in pvp anyways, i use the pvp zones to burn debt, considering my level and the risk. I feel that if a white flag goes up, one should cease fire and let the other go, unless the flager attacks again. I just don't understand it.
Yep, in conclusion, thank you bullies and jerks, for ruining PvP for all of us. -
ok, i'm sure someone has brought this up but I have gotten sick of this. This is taking place on Protector but i have reason to believe that this could be happening on other servers. I have played both sides in pvp zones, and i have noticed that many heroes are starting to camp for villains inside their own safe areas. I have noted heroes have managed to worm their way into the villain hospitals and trap other villains inside. Here's how:
In Bloody Bay: Heroes can use any travel and/or invisibility to get inside the villain hospital. Thus they can get into the center (out of range of the drones) and attack any villain coming back to life. Blasters and Defenders with fly can also hang out directly outside and keep using sniper attacks to pin down the unsuspecting villains. In fact, a couple of Energy blasters with fly once pinned me down inside the hospital and prevented me from leaving the zone. I quit out of frustration, but not without yelling at them.
In Siren's Call: Once again, Blasters and Defenders can float above the villain base with fly and pick off villains coming out of the hospital with fly or villains entering the zone and waiting there getting a mission. But many heroes can sneak past the arbiter drones and get into a small nook inside the hospital and take out villains that just died, trapping them within.
In Warburg: Heroes grab an awaken inspiration, and enter the hospital near the villain base, being taken out by an arbiter drone in the process. If this works, they die within the hospital and can awaken in saftey. They can then proceed to camp for villains that have just died.
Now, my feelings about this is that if heroes can camp villains, shouldn't the reverse true? I noticed that hero bases have far better security than villain bases. The hero hospital in bloody bay is much more narrow, thus removing campsites for villains. In Siren's Call, there is a police drone inside the hero hospital. In Warburg, the hero hospital is full of longbow and police drones. Why is it that heroes can get away with this? In my opinion, it's not very heroic to pick off villains that are reviving. Not only that, but it ruins PvP for everyone. Villain camping discourages villains from attending PvP, thus reducing the number for heroes to go after and eventually will make the zones usless, other than getting special temporary powers. I think that the security within Villain safe areas should be increased, to stop this from happening.
Please heroes, stop camping for the villains, pretty soon, you won't have any left to camp for.
