Checksum error in updater
I too have had this issue, i'm guessing the issue is NOD32, it thinks one of the files is an unknown NewHeur_PE virus, though I have no idea what that is specifically. The file NOD32 quarantined was the tempfile if that helps anything.
In the interest of computer secuirty, i'm not going any further with the update until I know what's up with this. I'm sure it's nothing, but i'm paranoid when it comes to my computer, i've already rebuilt this thing three times thanks to some nasty viruses

I'm having the exact same issue, and just like you Znemesis I've had issues with Viruses in the past, so I decided to let my Virus protector remove it. Now every time I open the upload, it starts "fixing files", gets to about 8.2M, and then says it cannot change the name of City of Heroes/Tempfile to City of Heroes/cityofheroes.exe, and it stops the updater completely.
I'm starting to think the only way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall the game, and I'd rather not sit here for a few hours while it reinstalls, but if it must be done...

Hello, i had this same error and if you go to tech support on the site and i types in the search option "permissions" it showed that error and how to fix it.
I searched the boards, this issue has already been brought to light here
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219369
There's more information there, but still no complete or final answer to the issue.

This sounds familiar. In Beta I could not log in because AVG thought the updater was NewHeur. I finally had to tell my Paid AVG program that City Of Heroes was a friend and to skip scanning it the program.
That worked.
I am downloading The Patch for issue 17 now, and it is applying the patch.
Fingers crossed.

It's very likely the file isn't a threat, i've looked through it and i'm very sure that this is a false positive that some AV programs are picking up on. I took a look at ESET's threat encyclopedia (ESET develops NOD32) and found this bit about NewHeur. Something in the code of the update files is probably showing similar coding to that of some basic viruses.
Again, i'm sure the update isn't a threat, or we'd be seeing tons of virus warning posts on the tech support boards by now.

I started a related thread because my problems include the inability to even fix files after checksum...
BUT, if you are using nod32, even when you quit the program, it's kernel is running, you need to disable it at start up, then go ahead and reboot, then try to install/update .

I keep getting a checksum error when trying to fix cityofheroes.exe. It started with NOD32 quarantining the file during the update today.
I have disabled NOD32.
I have tried deleting coh.checksum.
I have tried deleting coh.checksum and updater.lock.
I have tried renaming the folder and thus downloading the whole client again.
What else should I try?
