Is there any way to change the AFK timeout in missions/bases from unlimited to an hour or so? It would reduce the number of people camping out when they are not playing, making room for more active players.

Pushing out a last-minute, not to mention untested, code change just before a Double XP weekend would probably be a Bad idea(TM).

Yet, they put out a patch last week that is making it hard for many people to play.

Actually I want to clarify that, it does NOT use both bubbles with 'one click'. Macros and binds are designed so that you CANNOT use the same thing at the same time with one click, like you can't send two messages to the Broadcast channel or use two powers at the same time with one click of a bind or macro. What this bind DOES do however, is to make the G key 'toggle' between the two bubbles, so that you can click your target, press G, then press it a SECOND time and both shields will be applied. Since powers 'queue' up, you can also press G twice really fast, then WAIT for both the shield animations to complete to get the quickest shielding possible. This little trick earned my supergroup nickname of 'The Fastest Bubbler in the West'.

I was also not denying in my guide that Offenders can be effective, or that they are not a viable way to play, I was merely pointing out that they are by definition not DEFENDERS. I like to play defenders because I enjoy being the 'good guy' that helps other players. I'd much rather save a teammates life with an aggro-attracting attack that I'd been waiting to use, than to use that attack to kill another mob. I just feel 'better' defending than I do taking down enemies. It's a personal thing, which is why my guide is set up to look at a solely DEFENDER FF build, which uses even it's offensive powers to defend.

I am inclined to agree to this a bit, though I do have a small problem with how archtypes, like the Defender were set up to begin with.

First off, I have played a FF/EB Defender since Beta, and I had little problem soloing until I got about 22. Since, then I seem to have nothing but trouble soloing. I can do it, but I have as much downtime waiting for rest to come up between fights as I did when I soloed with a Fighter in EQ. Both the Fighter in EQ, and the Defender both seem to require a team. I know some people say they can still solo, and I am sure that might have to do with getting all SOs and IOs for their powers, which I can't afford, but I know are essential for that. I eventually gave up on my FF/EB Defender for other character types.

The problem I see with Defenders and the building of archtypes in general, is that they seem to have been modelled after the way other FANTASY MMOs set up their classes, instead of modelling them after like characters in comic books. Based on powers, someone like Green Lantern would be a FF/EB Defender, but it is impossible to play a Green Lantern type Defender, as a Defender, and still play him like he would be played in a comic, which is what SHOULD have inspired COH, not Fantasy MMOs.

What I am trying to say is in the comics when you see Green Lantern, he sure does do his fair share of Defending, by throwing up shields to save people at times, but that is the lesser amount of what he does. He doesn't seem to need a whole team all the time like most Defenders seem to need. And he certainly doesn't hang back just throwing bubbles around people, or knocking targets down for someone else to take out. He is Powerful with a capital "P".

For this reason, I would say there is definitely a place for people to play the Offender-type Defender. Maybe they aren't optimal, but EB/EA Aura, isn't like a Green Lantern type at all, except they both shoot energy. For that matter, as I said the FF/EB Defender isn't too much like him or characters like him either, but it is the closest we got, until they make an FF powerset for Corrupters. So since COH won't give us Green Lantern types an archtype to work with we will have to pervert their current archtypes to make what we want to play. I personally like the idea of the offender, and have respeced to try it out. (First time on my Defender in a couple years, so wish me luck) If it doesn't work though, I have a few respecs left and will go back to a more Defensive FF/EB Defender type like you and Star suggests. Her build looked nice, though I don't see how she could have soloed very well since she didn't even have a second attack power for a few levels and didn't have a third until well after it was available.
  3. I thought this was supposed to be a reactivation weekend? I told my brother about it, and he can't get on. It is well within the time still. He had a paid account for 30 months, and was never banned. Why can't his account get on? I petitioned this, but haven't gotten a response yet.

Yes, Flavius, it works that way for everyone: we can all do the "make a new character" stuff, it's only when we try to actually Enter Paragon City (or wherever) that we get the boot applied to our backsides.

Guess you missed the quote. According to it, if I can log into the test server, then I should be in closed beta. I can log all the way into the test server, so according to that, I should be in closed beta. Though when my character tries to enter a playable zone, then I am booted. If this is happening to you too, then according to the quote, you should be accepted into closed beta, but like me are getting kicked out when the zone tries to load.

Incidentally. I can log in, with a character I already have. I just cannot log in with a new one. This is why I am saying it is weird.

    (reading... Its fundamental)

We have e-mail notification going out to that group of testers shortly, but if you patch up and can connect and log all the way on to the Training Room Test Server, well then you are in.

This is weird. I have patched up, and I can log all the way into the training room test server. I have went to try and make a character, and I can do so, including testing out the weapons, so I have seen them all, but when I go to finalize the character, it boots me out and says I am not in closed beta. I assumed that it worked this way for everyone, until I saw this announcement that says, I should be in, based on the fact that, I can log in. I just can't make a new character. Thats just plain weird.

Though, if you are still taking apps for the closed beta, pick me? I've been in the closed beta before, boing all the way back to the closed beta before the game came out.
  6. Can anyone hear me?... This is Willpower from the Freedom server. Now don't call me crazy, but I think there is a conspiracy going on right here in Paragon City. All of my contacts keep telling me of gang wars between groups, such as the Skulls and the Hellions. I'm to try to keep the spill over violence from hurting civilians and property, and as always I do my job well.

However, I'm not sure if these gang wars are real or not. Many times I see a whole group of Hellions beating up on a Skull, or Trolls beating up on an outcast. Now I'm all for defending the downtrodden, and so when I go in to prevent these gang members from killing the one on the ground, he gets up, dusts himself off, and takes up with his enemies to try and kill me... He doesn't even seem hurt at all. Generally it doesn't change the outcome at all. One more hellion with a bunch of Skulls is just one more minor gang member. But it seems as though, these situations are set up to lure a hero in to help someone, and then the entire group springs into action to kill the hero.

The scary part is my contacts seem to ignore this evidence. No matter how many of these traps I spring and defeat, my contacts always keep telling me the same thing, that they are at war. I rely on my contacts for information. If I can't trust them, how am I supposed to get missions with accurate details.

Hopefully someone out there gets this message. Hopefully I'm not too late in getting the warning out. If youu are on patroll and see 15 trolls beating up on an outcast, don't think that outcast will be grateful for assisatnce. Don't think he will help out. He won't do that, or even run away. He will get up and pull his gun on you too.

If I save even one hero with this warning, I'll be happy, but I hope to save as many as possible.
  7. Not trying to start a flame war or anything, but I wanted to put out a big thank you to all the Devs that are FINALLY giving us some form of power customization. I also wanted to give out a BIG *raspberry* to all the lemmings who would jump on anyone in swarms of 50,000 or more whenever anyone gave a hint of mentioning a power customization question.

Before anyone says, "Hey they aren't implementing power customization, but just allowing you to customize weapons." Many of the power customization questions mentioned weapons specifically. Particularly one I asked, where all I asked was about being able to customize weapons. I had thought that a way around most customizing issues might have been to simply allow another object placed over the original weapon, and I had fifty million people jumping down my throat for suggesting it. I don't know if that is how they are implementing their new weapon customization, and I don't care. They are getting it done, when all the lemmings told me they couldn't and tried saying anyone who thought outside the box, should be kept from posting at all.

I have a new suggestion. Lets keep all lemmings from being able to post, so they can't keep good ideas down.
  8. I have made many screenshots of my game using the printscreen button, but the screenshots I get in my screenshots folder are JPGs not TGA files. I would rather them be TGAs as those are higher resolution. I am trying to use some of these pictures for character sheets, and so I was hoping for Hi-Res. Is there anyway to make the program give me TGA files instead of JPG?
  9. My question is,

What is the use of some of these powers? I play a FF/EB Defender, and the FF Mastery pool offers... Personal Force Field?!? I got that as a level 1 power, what do I need it again for? If the idea is that you can choose some additional powers from a different primary or secondary power choice then thats cool, but won't work for many characters. IE if you are playing a Uber Strong Tanker, someone just strong and tough, then none of the Ancillary powers will work for you, they have fire, ice, energy, and earth effects.
