Admittedly, at present you do need to enter the PvP zones briefly to complete the 'introductory' missions. As mentioned above, this is shortly to be changed, so that the contact you have to speak to is standing outside the PvP zone entrance.

Thanks for the confirmation Bridger. As you seem to reading this thread could you please confirm or not another issues mentioned here:
The endgame is/will be all about pvp.
IMHO it dosent sound right - you have a game with optional pvp (as you confirmed) but if ppl want to see/participate in the endgame they will need to embrace pvp. A bit of a paradox! -

Agreed. I too looked specificaly for a mjor game that did not have pvp. I had enough of pvp in eve and wow. I support the Arena pvp as it has rules and its clear.
I am happy that pvp is now part of the game coz it brings new players in the pve areas. None needs 'introductory' missions to get ppl to pvp zones. Experiance says that pvp ppl will rush there anyway. -

Plus, my story arc seems to be broken at the moment since after the update of CoH/release of CoV, the current sewer zone for the next part of the mission gx lags to the point where it is unplayable while the rest of the game is fine so i am stuck with 2 out of 3 missions i'd either rather not do or cannot do.

I didn't buy a super hero game with stupid little christmas elfs running around and jumping on my head. It doesn't fit my image of heroish world. I did extensive research before I bought this game and found it to my liking and elf free... but what did they do!? They added Croatoa with those stupid little elfs with red hats!
Now I'm fully aware that I can choose not to go in that area but the mere knowledge that those little buggers with big smiles are there is haunting my every moment in CoH. I demand that I get a flag that can disable that area from me... or even better delete it alltogether!

Yes you can be attacked in the safe zone but the attacker would die instantly (with debt) after the first hit because of the police drones.

Nope. We found a spot right near the helipad that was out of Police drones range. If we wanted to grief people, a few Blasters with Snipe would decimate new players.

IMHO choice is a good thing. You have a choice to completely ignore the PvP side of things if your morals will allow you.
You remind me of people who complain about programs they have watched on TV. They can always turn the thing off...but instead continue to complain about something that others enjoy that they didn't have to watch.

You got me completely wrong there. Choice is excellent and by adding the pvp part in CoH the game has become so much better. Better for the ppl that like pvp, obviously, and better for the ppl that dont like it because it has attracted new players who play in both areas, and has given the company a bit more income which means the y will continue developing CoH and/or other games.
To be honest I cant remember if there was any guarantee on the box and I am sure I didnt sign a contract on the no pvp issue.
I have the choice to not take the missions, or to put the DVD back in the box and next to WoW, Eve, Everquest.
There was no need for an explicit mention on the box, but lets give the company that sell it a little credit!! Everyone knows that there are ppl that like pvp and ppl that dont. When they decided to make a game in a crowded market they decided to not go space or fantasy as its taken by bigger companies, they also decided to not add pvp again for similar reasons. Thats called: unique selling point.
I bought it on the basis of the unique selling point. No guarantee for the future plans. I would expect that when they decided to add to the game they will do it in a way that it does not interfere with the premises that some of their customers perceive the game.
Your opinion is (I think) that it does not interfere as it gives you a choice while mine is that it does. Lets agree to disagree. -

My learned Greek friend, all missions are optional to degree. As in you dont have to do any, just happily hunt down mobs, lvl up, hunt higher mobs, different areas, etc. I can avoid any mission, and as the Fluct points out The Hollows is very avoidable. That is not the point. If a mission is given I always have the choice to not do it, but if I decide to do it then it should be within the parameters of the game I bought, which did not have pvp. In other words I should not have to worry about it.
Fluct reffers to the ethos of the game. Well IMHO when you play a hero you take all the missions given - you dont select who to save or not, otherwise you no better than the villains.
Basically keep the pvp outside mission areas OR confine mission to non-pvp areas OR use a flag to show if you want missions in pvp areas. -
I am not anti-pvp. I tried it (not in CoH) and I dont suck. I just dont enjoy it as much as cooperative and solo play.
The point is CHOICE. There are games that are purely pvp oriented, others have no pvp, and some cater for both. When I bought CoH, among other reasons, was that it had no pvp.
I dont mind that some marketing exec decided that pvp was the way to get more ppl buying CoV as long as that does not interfere with my play. And it seems that it does. At lvl 20 and up you get missions in pvp areas. Yes you may get the temp power to get there undiscovered but that is not the point. I dont want to spend 30 lvls playing hide and seek while doing missions in pvp areas. pvp areas should not be part of the main game, it should be a choice if I go there or not. Otherwise it spoils the game I bought by changing the basic principles of it.
There are flags set for the difficulty you want to play your missions, maybe there should be a way to set a flag so contacts give you no missions in pvp areas. Even better, just move pvp out of the mission areas. -
I agree with the guys above - its uderperforming compared with others but its definetely fun to play, especially after lvl 10-12 where you have enough attacks to make a nice flow - feels like you are in the comic.

I followed it up to lvl 12 (have not battle tested hover yet) and it works. Admitedly a Wolvie clone as I'd like to do has nothing to do with hover, fly, and tp but i may respec later.

maybe for later but currently these are bread and butter attacks, if I drop them then I have nothing else to use untill much later. So maybe drop them at a respec point?

[/ QUOTE ] I admit : BUT this was the only test I could do at my lvl. Also, most sets are OKish after the mid 30ish lvls, its the early on thats a pain, thats why the test is not that bad imho
As I said above this was basewd on a US guide for claw/inv. Any guys here with high lvl i6-ED claw/inv please do share your spec - show the guys across the pond !

Your reputation is also your difficulty setting. You get a mish about it, explaining wot reputation is about around lvl 12 or so. Turn to heroic for easy soloing

I set it back to rugged and the one above that and solo is doable. So that was my main problem.
I still think that claw/inv is underpowered. I run on the test server the following experiment:
Created scraper toons with other sets and started them all in same area. At lvl 1 and 2 I gave them the recomended powers but no sloted enhancments and went to an area that you can find whites. yellow, orange badies. Picked fights with these to see how many I can take on before I am dead.
claws/inv was bottom of the performance, with claws/regen not much better, MA toons were incredible. -

Well BOTH to be accurate ! Adamantium skeleton = inv (sort of) Healing = regen.
I chose inv as adamantium was his unique characteristic (or used to anyway)
I will later (have to??) choose among fly, hover, air super which dont really match Wolvie. -
First things first, yes I did create a Wolverine clone, whats the point of a heros game if I can't 'copy' one I like? Next thing, I play solo as much as I can - this is due to not wonting to commit properly to a team as RL is busy at the moment.
I am only on the early levels and it feels quite a bit of agrind to lvl up. All the missions - and I mean ALL the missions seem impossible to do solo. You get through the minions but the boss is purple++. I played Eve, Everquest, and others, and when you get missions, the majority are doable solo.
So I am getting to think that either thats the games mentality (force grouping on missions) or the rummor that claws/inv is a really weak set (rummor goes that devs did not want lots of wolverine clones running around)
