I'll really miss this place and all of the devs. I remember being part of the very early forums around 2003 when people just argued about what if's. And I also remember I had just gotten broadband and I was about to go out to buy Star Wars Galaxies when I got an email that said "Congratulations, you are invited to particitate in closed beta testing for City Of heroes..." So instead of heading out to the store, i sat there and downloaded the beta client for CoH... never did get around to joining SWG
I remember the year that this game launched, I went to Gen Con with a bunch of friends, and Cryptic was there. Got to talk to Jack and participate in trivia contests. They were gearing up for a new Issue, we were getting capes! And I remember when I got to talk with Posi (I'm sure he doesn't remember it ) I can't remember what I asked about, but I do remember that when he answered, he throught about it for a moment, then started with "back in my Cyberpunk days...." I knew then that this game was in good hands
I'll certainly miss this game, and the devs. No other game out there had Devs that interacted with the community more, or to the same level. Good luck, Posi, wish you well and I hope if you get onto another MMO out there that you make an announcement, because that'll be something I'd like to check out. -
A couple that I would recommend, Powers, which someone above mentioned. Semi super hero related. It's about a pair of detectives whose job it is to deal with homicides that deal with meta humans. Start with the trades, Who killed Retro Girl, and Roleplay.
The other one that I highly recommend that I'm surprised no one has mentioned, Top Ten. Another twist on the cop drama. This one about superhero police in a city where everyone is super powered. You can pick up the whole series in trades. -
I still remember when Liefeld did a two issue guest stint on Teen Titans a few years back. I looked at what was on the cover and looked over at the guy working at the comic shop and said, "We should be able to sue DC for defamation of character for this." And pointed at the little blurb on the cover that read "Because you demanded it.... Rob Liefeld"

Quote:This right here is DC's biggest hurdle they have for putting out any superhero movies, let alone a JLA one.The Green Lantern movie has to be one of the worst examples of executive meddling in recent memory. From years ago when there was a rumor that Jack Black was going to be GL and they were going for a wacky approach, to trying to turn Hal Jordan into a smart*** like movie Tony Stark. 'Course I still think Jordan's a boring character anyway, but I digress.
The movies that Marvel has been putting out from their own studio they have one exec producer who calls the shots (Iron man, Thor, Cap) It was Avi Arad, not sure who it is now. But he has the ability to tell anyone who thinks that it'd be neat if Thor could say things like "The Odinson doth feel pretty oh so pretty!" that they should shut up and get the hell out. even movies done by other studios (X-men, Spider-Man) they do have control to some extent to keep the executive meddling to a minimum. So far it seems that Disney has let them be on the creative side, they seem to understand "They've been making movies that pull in hundreds of millions of dollars... leave them alone and let them work" Something that the WB Exec have yet to figure out.
Of course the arguement comes up of "What about Dark Knight, that was awesome" yeah, but Nolan is a director that has enough clout that when some jr producer comes in saying things to justify his job like "I think the Batman needs more witty one liners to make him more friendly" Nolan has the ability to go "Shut up and get out!" it wouldn't surprise me that something like is in his contracts
on a similar note, it seems DC has their animated side figured out. But in that aspect, for whatever reason they're following the same arrangement that Marvel does with its live movies. They got one person who's in charge who knows what he's doing in Bruce Timm who has creative control over the whole process. I know I've read that supposedly WB has restructed their comic movie arm to put some DC guys in charge, but that's recent and who knows how much power they actually have. And until the WB can figure that out, they're going to continue having random execs poking their nose in and we end up demands like "Superman shouldn't fly. And he needs to fight a polar bear" -

Quote:There has been a Celestial standing around San Fransisco for years actually. This goes waaaay back to Heroes Return, after the whole Heroes Reborn and Onslaught stuff. When all the heroes were brought back to the real earth the Celestials tried to recruit Franklin Richards. One of the Celestials was left behind, he's occasionally mentioned as the Dreaming Celestrial from time to time. But for the most part, with a couple mentions here and there, most of the writers have ignored that he's been standing there.Anyhow, as for the X-Men... I just don't see how they could do anything to attract the attention of one Celestial, let alone so many.
And not to go too far into detail, Sinister does... stuff. And that's what draws the other Celestial's attention. -
I'm calling it now. If the server lists ever do merge someone will be going
"the devs hate americans! The EU players get 11 more servers to play on and we only get an extra 4! And two of those the people talk funny!!!!"
Its only a matter of time. -
Quote:You know, I see people say this about one of the big two or the other. (Playing a bit of devils advocate here). DC does this too. They very firmly established that recent retcons or continuity errors are from Superboy Prime punching reality. Which one is worsse?Indeed, part of why I gave up on Marvel was the fact that they not only built, but use a dues ex machina character and use her to explain any changes to the way the world works on their whim
(And just for the record I do feel that Joephisto needss to be beaten witin an inch of his life, taken to a hospital to get better, then beaten again) -
There's others like that out there too. There's a Cheetor and Tigatron version of the USB drive. A Grimlock and Trypticon transforming mouse and a Blaster USB hub
