  1. Cheers for the positive review - I'll take that into account if I ever republish it. Working (slowly) on another one at the moment, but real life's got in the way a bit, so it's likely to be a week or two before that one comes out... and of course if Sims 3 gets there first it'll be even later.
  2. These are all great suggestions - it's a bit of a slow burner, this one. There's an additional element I didn't play up earlier - at the end of the mission arc, you decide whether this hero exists or doesn't, so it's a kind of trial thing as well.
  3. Lots of useful suggestions there - interesting hearing people's dos and don'ts when it comes to titling your arc.
  4. Okay, this is part asking for help with an arc, part discussion-starter. I'm slowly - in between actual work and other games - working up a nice little story where the player enters the life of a fictional hero during the forties, the sixties, the seventies, the eighties and the nineties, so it's both a life story and a commentary on how comics changed during those times. Coming soon to a theatre near you etc...

Anyway, it needs a title. And the title is, as we've been told, the most important bit - it might be what gets people to play the arc. Right now I'm thinking 'The Ages Of Super-Man', but let's face it, that's terrible. Strictly a working title.

Anyone got a better title for something like that? And what is it in a title that makes you want to take a closer look? How do you pick titles yourself? Are they that important, or am I giving them a mystique they don't deserve?

    Let's talk titles, everybody...

The system lowers from 1000 to up. The first arc created would be 1000. The next one was 1001 then 1002 etc.

Thanks for explaining how that works.

So the lower the ARC ID, the longer people have had time to get the kinks out. Because the best testing is happening by people playing your arc and after that telling you what is wrong with it.

For some reason I was under the impression that when you republished your arc after editing it, the number reset. Obviously, if that's not true, there's a case for the low numbers having had more playtesting.

I'm still not 100% sure I agree with the idea that arcs created in the beta are more likely to be better than arcs created in the game itself, though - that seems a little tough on people who weren't in the beta.

Low ID means an arc was in beta. Which means it has been around longer, which hopefully means author had time to both make a decent story and throughly test it.

Not sure I agree with your logic. By now, people have had plenty of time to playtest their arcs, whether they were in beta or not. In fact, the higher an arc number is, the more time it's potentially had to be tested, surely?
  7. I'll add my solitary arc to your workload if I may...

Whatever Happened To The Cockroach Crusader?
    Arc ID: 67280
    Level Range: 20-54
There's something very wrong with Roachman, a vaguely bat-esque crimefighter. Foil the dastardly plots of his various foes to dig out the sordid truth behind his disappearance. Contains four Elite Bosses, no Arch Villains.

(I'm willing to bet that if you succeed in that mission, he's escaping after being taken in by the police or something).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's it exactly - it is possible to succeed in that mission, and I've done it, but afterwards he does manage to escape. It is possible to beat him, though - I knew people would get upset if there was no chance at all.

I'm really enjoying these reviews, so I'd like to step forward and take my lumps.

My arc is #67280, "Whatever Happened To The Cockroach Crusader?" Four missions, mostly unique maps, level 20 up. The villains are a mix of the Freakshow (for space saving purposes) and a mix of custom mobs.

There's something very wrong with Roachman and Roachgirl, a pair of not completely un-bat-like crime crushers. To make matters worse, their arch-nemesis, Day-Glo the Fluorescent Man, seems to have returned from the grave...
  10. Apologies if this has been asked before, but along these lines - do we know the upper limit on how many different minion types we can have in one mission? In other words, can we have, say, 25 enemies in a map and have them all have individual powersets?
  11. Or possibly James How733T. I reckon that'd be pretty cool.
  12. Lot of fun had by all - thanks to the organisers for putting it on, and thanks for all these costume tokens that I'll find a use for when I build my level 20 suit...
