Just an FYI, the "font" link no longer works.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry about that, I should have checked myself.

I have gotten it from the highest source the font used is Red Circle (Italic) Which is available free on many sites, to get one Do a Google search on Fonts Red Circle

Edit: Sorry I had a link here but it wouldnt show for some reason.
  2. The Respec With Smaller Teams
You do not have to have a 4 person team or larger to finish the respec. You will have to have at least four to start, but if people drop off, or even immediately quit after joining you can complete the respec with less than four people. The number of enemies scales, so with your two or three person team you will face less enemies than a four or more person team.

    Soloing the Respec
If you want to do the smallest number of people; one, then you must form a four person team and have at least one person log off. If all three people quit the TF you will find your self booted from the TF. Having one person log off keeps the TF active. The person that logs off can log into another hero and continue playing. Soloing the Respec TF is possible, but it can be extremely difficult.

You can PL your alts in sewers, on monster island, in any AV missions. It's a little more work, but it's done by people every day.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well thats kind of my point, since this did nothing against power leveling, why change it? Even if the masses arent harmed by the change, if it harms one persons ability to complete this mission, then why make the change?

Statesman said it is to direct people to more fun content, but will it have that effect? Most people say no. You want to direct people to more fun content, increase the draw of that content.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming 'it's a developer's job to actively limit exploits' was the reasoning. The devs (to this point) have been silent, and will likely continue to be.

[/ QUOTE ] The dev's have a very limited defnition of what an exploit is. If you would like to find out, submit a mission as an exploit and see the response you will get. I know I have submitted something I thought was an exploit, something that greatly increases your xp without increasing the risk at all. I was told point blank it wasnt an exploit. It may be a bug, but it would have to go to Q&A for testing.

Now the portal looping, was that an exploit? Judge the speed to which they resolved that versus the wolf mission, which had been around for longer.

No this attempt was to guide us over into other content. Which I do not think it will succeed, and hurt people who want to experience the content naturally.

The wolf herding was not an exploit. The devs had said so. See Statesmans post on a similar issue.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
So uh..doing the same wolf mission again and again is heroic then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well that all depends on your definition of heroic. I don't really use that one much in this game. After ignoring muggings on the street in Atlas Park, I didnt feel all that heroic. Oh sure, when I first started playing, I would stop them, even though it was no xp, but as my time is limited playing the game, I really couldnt justify it anymore. But thats to everyones indvidual call. My point is that Statesman is off to direct us to the fun he is created, not stopping us from gaining levels, and I think that putting a timer on the mission will hurt some people, while not directing others to what he wants to do.
  6. I think you may have Statesman a little bit wrong. As the lead designer he has this vision of the game as he sees it. He has made a package, put it all together, and put in things that he thinks people will enjoy.

There is just one problem with this model, us. We are a vast and different audience, we do things well weird, we find fun in different things, we enjoy somethings that can make other people just scratch their heads. This is not to say that we are wrong, or he is wrong. Just try to imagine Statesman as the proud parent hiding behind the door on christmas day. He sees us opening the boxes he has laid out, and enjoying our presents, but wants us to get to the box two over, you know the one with the really neat present in it, maybe a puppy. He sees his goal is to direct us to that box, but anyone who has seen a really young child on christmas morning has seen sometimes they have more fun with the box. He isnt mad that we are having fun with the box, but boy would he like us to see what is in that other package.
  7. Higher patrols do stop some criminals from commiting crimes. Does it stop all crimes? Well you didnt say that in your post. You compared a harmless activity in a game to crime, yes crime! Ever lost a family member in a mugging gone wrong? Excuse me if I split a hair about it.

What have I done, well besides pointing out that the devs didnt do it to stop powerleveling, and that it hurt innocent people who just want to play the game, not much I suppose.

You recommend a 3 hour time limit, which yes is greater than 1 hour. Could I point out the threads on here that decry timelimits on missions? Any time limit on a mission can make that mission incompletable. So why have we made this mission that way? To make power leveling a little harder? I'll say it again. Big win!

You agree that it wont stop power leveling, so what is the point of the change?

edit: I see that some of my earlier posts are gone, so I will just put a little gist here. Statesman has stated that he wants to direct people to the content, not have them do the same thing over and over for xp. So to me the problem is not powerleveling, but the fact that AV missions are not as attractive to some people as the wolf mission. Changing the wolf mission will not make AV's more attrative in my opinion. Changing the AV missions could make them very attractive.

Either way, lets go to the root of the problem.
  8. Bah! One of the biggest complaints of the Anti-Power leveling crowd was that it skewed the dev's numbers, forcing them to focus on higher level content and not spending time fixing bugs or developing new content. When it seems it is more the complainers, forcing the devs to work on issues they cannot ignore that leave the content untouched and bugs ignored or unresolved. I would say, Who cares about the wolf mission, maybe you could save me the 10 minutes each time you patch that it takes to recreate my checksum file, or how about fixing the bug that takes my sidekick down to the red whenever we zone. Yeah, real big win here, you made the power levelers change missions, did nothing for everyone else.

For the people that think this is going to stop the powerleveling, the tells, or the low levels in PI,it's not. The basic fact remains; as long as there is Side Kicking, there will be powerleveling. Now if you want to make a case to remove that, there is also bad news; As long as teams with different levels can get xp, there will be power leveling

Now knowing this, who wants to talk about the steps needed to remove power leveling?

    Overall, here's my report card for this move;
    Issue 4? No
    Skills system? No
    CoV? No
    Bases? No
    Global Chat Live? No
One mission that could be used by power levelers changed? Yes

    Big win!
  9. Just to update with some more questions and answers.

How do I get my Avatar posted in the forums?

What is a Respec? Where do I go for the level 24-33, 34-43. 44-50, respec? Or any other respec question..

How do I put symbols in my binds such as musical notes, hearts, or (c)?

How do I set up a batch file to automatically delete my CheckSum.Coh file?

How do I use Global Chat?

    Is account sharing legal?

Where are the Ritki in the Sewers?

Are there any regularly scheduled server downtimes for City of Heroes?

Can I change my Hero's name?

Can I transfer my US heroes to EU servers?

Where can I find information on Accolades?

What is "Kill Skuls"? What is "Gone to the Americans"?

What does DDD, AR/DEV, OMW mean?

    What is the Brawl Index?

How do I make a new costume look exactly like another?

So When Does Influence Become "Meaningless?"

My goal with this thread is to make it a sort of FAQ, that way people who have questions can get them answered fast. They won't have to wait for someone to respond, they can get the answer themselves quickly, or at least be armed with the tools to get them. Personally, I like that people are asking questions, it indicates a passion for the game and a desire to learn. This thread is not about discouraging questions, its more about helping people help themselves. In that spirit, if you see a question that pops up a lot in this forum, feel free to post the question and answer.
  10. Yes its a toggle.

(and I know the power for Force of Nature lists FOCE, but they will fix that sometime )
  11. While there isnt a corresponding APP for each Primary/Secondary, it doesnt have to be a deal breaker. Take for instance;

    Force Mastery
    POWER NAME Personal Force Field
You are channeling your energy/electricity outward..

    POWER NAME Repulsion Field
Electricity, think static discharge. Energy is well versed with knockback

    POWER NAME Temporary Invulnerability
    Again, channeling energy inward.

    POWER NAME Force of Nature
    See above

So its not a total concept breaker. Some good news, they say customizeable power colors are coming.

As for more APP's you could use the Ask Statesman thread in the Dev Digest to see if they have any plans to add others. I think it is a valid question.
  12. The force mastery APP that offers Personal Force Field is for blasters. Defenders get;

    Dark Mastery
    Power Mastery
    Psychic Mastery
    Electric Mastery

None of which have any duplicate powers of Defender Primary or Secondary powers as far as I can tell.
  13. Definition
Respecification, also known as respec (or incorrectly respect), is the process a character goes through to recreate themselves. The ability to respec your character is given after successfully completing a respec task force. There was a free respec given to all characters that existed on the server around the time of Issue 3 as well. The possibility still exists for more free respecs if large changes are made to an arch-type or power set, but there has been no indication of future free respecs at this time. The respec allows you to change the power selections of your hero, while remaining the same arch type with the same power sets, you are allowed to completely change power pools. The best analogy of a respec is that of a hero that has the experience of their current level, but has never trained, this hero selecting all their powers from level 1 on. The same rules that applied as you level naturally apply here; perquisite powers, order selection, and etc.

    Respec Availability
The respec task force is first available at level 24. You may do the respec task force as many times as you like, but you are only allowed to select the respec reward once from level 24-33. At level 34-43 you are allowed to select the respec reward again, for your second respecification. At level 44-50 you are allowed to select the respec as your reward for the third time. If you receive the respec, you do not have to use it immediately. Respecs do stack, so if you have one unused one, and complete the trial, choosing respec as a reward for the second time, you will not lose any previous respecs. This stacking also applies to the opportunity to select respec as a reward. If you do not do the mission 24-33, you can run the mission twice 34-43 and select respec as a reward. NOTE: If you do not do the respec in a given range, you are not required to exemplar back to that level in order to receive your reward.

    Rewards
When you complete the task force, you are offered your choice of reward. There are several Single Origin enhancements available, or you can choose the respecification reward (following the rules above) If you select the respec award, you will receive the right to respec, as well as an accolade; Received the Stalwart Medallion (first award), Earned the Statesman Star (second award), Awarded the Freedom Cross (third trial). To claim your earned respec, you must visit Jack Wolfe.

    Contact Locations
The level 24-33 respec contact (Jane Hallaway) is in Independence Port The level 34-43 respec contact (Captain James Harlan) is located in Founder’s Falls. The level 44-50 respec contact (Major Richard Flag) is located in the Ritki Crash Site. The Respec contact (Jack Wolfe) is located inside Freedom Corps HQ in Galaxy City

    Respec Process
Once you collect your reward, you will have to talk to the respec contact in order to redeem it. When you speak to the contact he will ask you if you wish to respec. Saying yes will take you to a power selection screen. It will be as if you are level 1 all over again, where you pick from 1-2 powers in your primary, and must take the first power in your secondary. From there you continue selecting powers, and pools up to your current level. The respec does not tell you which level you are selecting your power for, it will tell you simply how many powers you have left. In turn you will also be able to pick your power pools, following the existing rules for Power Pools. Keep in mind, the order you select your powers will have an effect on your hero if you exemplar or use flashback mode. Once you are finished selecting powers you will move to slotting those powers. You follow the same rules of slotting as you do in normal leveling. The order that you slot the powers appears to have no effect in exemplaring at this time. After you are done slotting your powers, you are taken to an enhancements screen. Here you can place the enhancements you had before back into the powers, sell them, or keep them in inventory (as per existing rules, you can hold no more than 10.) If you choose to sell your enhancements, you will receive the price for them as if you were selling them in the store of that type. After you are finished the enhancement screen you will receive a notice, this will be your last chance to back out of the respec.

    Respec Task Force Rules
The respec TF is similar to other task forces, it requires a minimum number of heroes to start the TF, in this case four. The other rules are also in effect; cannot speak to contacts, if you quit you cannot rejoin, and etc.

    Respec Best Practices
Power respecification is a powerful tool, it should be done with caution as you can make the game very difficult for yourself if you respec in haste. Some recommendations for respecting your character are as follows[*] Use the test server; Copy your hero over to test before visiting the respec contact. That way you can see how things will work out before you are locked in. [*] Plan before you use your respec, having a map of the powers and pools you want will keep you from forgetting to select a travel power. There are a number of planners that will help with this, or you can even use pen and paper. [*] If you are going to be exemplaring, make sure to take that into account when you select your powers.[*] Respecs are limited, so conserve them if at all possible. While a free respec was issued, to base your characters future life on another freebie may lead to a hero you wont play much for a while.

    Respec TF Best Practices
There are many guides to the respec TF, they will be linked in a subsequent post. One consideration to make is in regards to the difficulty slider. There have been reports that it does in fact have bearing on the Respec TF. Make sure you know what you are set as before you join or start a respec TF.
  14. If you would like to use additional characters in your chat bubbles, there are a few ways to do this. Open up CharMap , under Start-> Programs -> Accessories. If you don’t have it installed, you can use MS Word, under the Insert Menu, there is an option Symbol. In Character Map you will see a window that looks like this. You can use pretty much any of the symbols that are listed here. If you select one and copy it, switch over to the game and press CTRL+V to paste it in your window.

Now pasting all the time can be a problem, but you can use these in a bind. The first thing you will have to do is change the format of your text file. The default option in Notepad is ANSI text, you will have to change it to UTF-8. You do this by clicking on the File -> Save as. It will bring up a prompt that looks like this. Select UTF-8 and save the file. You can now paste the characters from the CharMap (or Word Insert Symbol) Into your binds.

I can't show the actual text here since the UBB formatting wont allow it, but if you did everything correctly, you will see chat bubbles that look like this.
