Funny story here. The stores were not on the in-game map, but they WERE on the paper map that came in the game's box, as fairly large dots on a fairly small-scale map of the city. I went around looking for them, comparing the in-game map to the paper map, and eventually found all of them. Since they weren't on the map, I had to memorise their locations so I wouldn't have to bring out the fold-out paper map every time, and thereafter spent half my time on a team directing people to the specific origin store in the specific zone we were in. And even THEN, that only helped me up until level 30, because the 30+ vendors are not in stores and their locations are not on the paper map. I had to as on the forums for those, but by the time I really needed them, I'd already found VidiotMaps.
S'okay, Sam, I had to look for those stores too when I started ("OK, I'm just off the Green Line in Steel, now where is that %?&*$ Mutant Store ???")

More on topic:
* The "Mom and Pop store" justification makes the most sense to me.
* Depending on what you can afford (not all players have a gazillion inf to his or her name), SOs are better than DOs which are better TOs which are better than nothing at all.
* I don't mind getting having to go to a particular store to get "the best price" for a particular type of enhancement. To me, that's part of the game, just like taking the scenic route via the tunnels to get from Zone A to Zone B (never get tired of sightseeing Paragon City...).
This is only my opinion, and as they say, everyone is entitled to my opinion...

What was said earlier: just don't buy the packs.
You might be missing out on 1 costume set, but if you feel so strongly about not encouraging this new "advancement", as you put it, I'm sure that would be the best way to send a message to NCSoft about it, instead of quitting: "I support your game, but I won't support this gimmick". -

This news confirms two things for me.
1) The current management team at DC is living in the past, and pining for the "better days" (??) of the late 70s - early 80s, hence the return of titles like "Resurrection Man", "Firestorm", "I Vampire", "Justice League International", "Captain Atom", "Hawk and Dove", "All-Star Western", "Swamp Thing", "Animal Man", "Blackhawks", and "(Army) Men (at) of War"
2) The current management team at DC is only in it for the money, damn be everything else...
I'm not saying Marvel is better, but at least they flaunt it less... -

Retro/cheesy Sci-Fi/gaming themed Hess Task Force

If you reeeeally want to leave Protector, we'll understand...
Seriously, I suggest you make a brand new character on whatever server you wish to move to, and try it out first. Check the server's Global channels, see what is the activity during your normal hours of play, etc. -

What time do you usually play? I'm on Protector and I have no issue finding teams or PuGs. Incarnate Trials are run nearly every night, and there are regular player events throughout the week. You might try looking into the Protector Vigilance global channel, because a great many teams I've been on have formed through there.
Global channels are the way to go. Apart from Protector Vigilance, you could try the following:
Jello Shooters: Primarily a chat channel. Sometimes you see mention for events, task forces and whatnot.
Paragon TFs: Task Forces, Giant Monsters, Badges etc.
Protector Watch: Mainly used for rare spawning monsters, occasional task force. -

I've had that problem with Sentinel once - it was telling me it was up to date but alas it was not. Solution was to remove it, get the newest version (at the moment 0.9.4.q) from the site and re-install it. -

We had a "Last Chance with(out) Kult" tonight....
Went thru Manticore TF in slightly over an hour, with only 9 deaths (Mental had to go AFK for a while, that might explain this... )
Seriously, a splendid time was had by all... even if Kultie did not show up
Oh well... Next week, the WST is the Eden Trial, so join us then - Same Kult-Time, same Kult-Channel !

If you really feel like you need the community to pick a replacement (and not just have one of your paid writing staff do his or her job), then I implore you to simply pick 4 or 5 NPCs that are long overdue for a promotion and the character development it brings. Say, Back Alley Brawler, Ms. Liberty, Moonfire, Infernal, and someone else, like Rose Star from the canceled City of Hero. Blue Steel or Castle would be a good choice too.
