Like creating very small themed SGs? Tough. If you can't commit to build an sg, why bother? Teams does the same thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, sure glad you aren't in charge of welcoming new players to the game....
A stated goal of the base changes was to make thing easier for groups starting out. Guess what - that would be your "small themed SGs" as well as those who may not care who they ask to join to make a huge SG or those who are willing to have a hodge podge of equipment in their base.
And teams do NOT work "just as well" if you are talking about some of the things people use bases for, like a transportation hub, a place to store/exchange enhancements and inspirations and a place to hang out (to RP r just spend time with their friends away from everybody else).

As to the cost of telepads versus rent? Give me a break. You pay a one time fee per telepad, then do not have to worry about it again. You are saving millions (in some cases, tens of millions) on base rent and costs, so even if you spend 1.5 mill per telepad, in the long run you come out ahead of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
So who is spending millions? Oh, wait, that's right, you don't think that "small themed SGs" deserve any breaks oe support in making their SGs. One thing that seems to keep slipping some people's attention is that this new cost to telepads is paid in INF not in Prestige. Since INF is used and granted to individuals, who is paying these new costs? Rhetorical question, sorry, but it's these lowbie players who now will have to choose between telepads (or control upgrades, energy upgrades, defense items) and making IO's for their character.
It isn't whining to try to convince the Devs that the currest test recipes for telepads should be changed in some way to reduce costs to the small starting SG. So sorry it annoys you so much. -

80k is a lot. It doesn't look like a lot when people sit and farm and farm and flip and flip and farm some more. When characters don't participate in that sort of thing, those 80k tickets start adding up.
[/ QUOTE ]
No base needs more than 11 teleporters.
880K is, what, 3 SOs for a level 50 character?
I don't know what game you're playing, but I've got characters in their 30s sitting on 10 mill just from selling all the stuff they pick up for 1 inf on the market.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's 3 SO's on a level 50, what is it on multiple lower levels? Some folks seem to keep assuming that everyone has multiple level 50s just sitting around to fund these base additions, but here's a news flash - some people (probably mainly raging altoholics like me) DON'T have lots of 50s to be bankers for the group.
There are likely new SGs starting today, dreaming of getting just their first few telepads. Hopefully they are buying them with base salvage before I13 hits, because that 80K price tag will mean they will need to choose whether to spend invention salvage on getting their IOs or getting their telepads - and who is footing that bill?
Yes, it is more than possible to have a new level 20 character with 10 million if you understand the Market even a little bit, but it's also possible to have one that's broke because they messed up their market sales badly or just sold all their salvage to the vendors and spent their Inf on buying their first SO's. Especially redside where you can't make as much Inf selling stuff to the Market (although I suspect that buying Invention Salvage for a telepad is somewhat less there, I haven't tested it.)
P.S. Oh, and actually with the addition of a beacon for Pocket D, isn't the number now 12 telepads? And I am going to guess that there will be new zones added in the future as well. Just saying. -

Oops, I had been contrating on making teleporters with base Salvage. Now with this recipe list, I see that I should also be crafting these for personal inventory, since I really like the look of each of them as a nice blend of decorative/functional.
Thanks, Cende & Talek! -

1) Do we get the difference in costs from our base rooms when they switch to new price or should I break down my base now and use the prestige when I13 goes live to rebuild at a lower cost. I understand the issue of the telporters so will rebuild all of them and hold them until I13 goes back.
[/ QUOTE ]
I asked the same question and had yet to see a definitive answer so I went ahead and installed TC (never did it on my new computer) and checked out an old base I had there. When I sold rooms I did, indeed, get back the full amount I'd originally paid. There seems to be no reason to tear down your base before the patch goes live.
I plan on redoing my base but it's good to know instead of having to destroy my teleporters I can just create a new temporary holding room, move them into that and then replace their old room w/ the cheaper version and still see a full realization of the price reductions.

You do not automatically get the "refund" of the lower price when I13 goes live. To get the benefit of the lower prices fro plots and rooms you will need to sell them back and repurchase them.
You will get a full refund of the old price after I13 goes live if what you are selling was purchased at the old price - so you do not need to tear down the base before it goes live, you can wait and see of you really want to and even do it over time, a room at a time if necessary.
Kind of a "glass half-full" sort of thing.
My personal plan is to wait for a bit after I13 goes live before I decide whether to tear down the 5 bases I currently own, although one of them is almost definitely coming down due to the larger rooms used in its design now being significantly cheaper. The others may not come down at all if we don't need the prestige for something else. -
Yeah, I took the tour last night and there is no way that the pics can do it justice. It is awesome! (And as I told stacker at the time, WAAAY more work than I want to do, lol).
And with the movie theater and bowling alley, it's becoming a mega-entertainment complex -
Here's my work so far on a small 3 person base (2 active players, 1 inactive due to WoW). Paragon Arcanum is a completely magic-themed SG on Infinity:

@AdAstra
Bases on Liberty, Infinity, Victory blueside; Triumph redside.
I don't have much experience with some of the mechanics (only played with magic desks a little bit), but like BadStorm, I like to play with color & design, making the base pretty. My current bases have a variety of themes, very basic items (all are personal SGs, with 3 members, so we only have prestige from the bump and really none of the SG badges that unlock stuff), so I think I can really help out those just starting out. -

One update to the warning potential Rikti Hunters should take note of:
* When Zones within the cities are under attack, a world-wide alert will be issued by Vanguard. This alert will show up in your Chat window on the Event channel, warning you in which zone attack is imminent. If you haven't already, be sure to add the Event channel to one of your chat tabs.
Good hunting!
[/ QUOTE ]
OK - at the risk of sounding really "not very bright" - how do you "add the Event channel"? -

Yeah I missed half this the first time due to vacations.
once the anouncement changed from RED to green I was missing the few that spawned unless I was watching or zoned into an area and thought why is the sky funny.

Same here, I was at Pennsic War. I only got the accolades on a couple of alts - now many more can join their sisters in knowing they helped save the world! -

Anyone with a serious interest in learning better base-building should make a toon on every server. There are frequently cross-server base tours and, now that the base kick bug has been fixed (again), visiting other groups SG's is quite easy.

One of the things I did during the rush to pad SGs last month was to politely ask for a tour of the base with one of the throw-away pads. I came away with lots of great ideas from these tours. And I'm excited about the cross-server tours thread I found elsewhere in this forum.
