Quote:Funny enough, the game used to be like that. The Second Rikti War, for example, only took up one issue, yet brought about massive new features and memorable content. Then the Praetorian War happened. For two straight years. Even the new Dark Astoria had Praetorians and Prae story elements running rampant in it.I'd also add to the list the very slow progression of the game's story.
Coming Storm (tm), anyone?
In a way, it seemed that for the longest time nothing was happening.
It might have been nice to have some sort of annual story event, serialized like SSA, but available to all levels, and then chucked into Ouro when the year is up ... and on to the next annual story.
It would be nice to be able to look back on the game year by year and think back, "Oh yeah ... that was the year of the big Praetorian battle," or "that was the year of the Shivan invasion." -

Architect Entertainment, I13's PVP changes, Enhancement Diversification, City of Villains, Going Rogue, raid-style end game content, OP Incarnate Powers, a non-existent Moon Base, and any other feature anyone ever complained about all teamed up to kill CoH.

Quote:Actually, to be completely honest here, the ads themselves looked grimy and dirty depending on their location. So they blended right in with the many other fictional ads all over the Isles, as opposed to standing out as clean and pristine. They were also featured on small fliers scattered all over bus stations, plastered on walls, or littered on streets in public areas, which really only helps support the dirty, grimy Isles immersion.RP can handwave anything.
My position has the inherent advantage of not needing it.
You just have a personal chip on your shoulder against real companies using advertising space currently being used by fictional companies in this game. There'd be very little difference if Taco Bell replaced El Super Mexicano, for example.
Also I'm a Detroit Tigers fan, Xmas. 'Sup. -

Dear SyphonStrike,
NCSoft does not read these forums. -

Quote:Kind of. The former dev Manticore went into this topic in detail a long while back. Originally, while it was still in the planning stages, CoV was supposed to have you create a member of the various villainous factions found throughout the game; Arachnos, Freakshow, Carnival, etc. Because the devs didn't want players being Nazis, they decided to sunset the 5th Column and have the Council, a more vaguely fascist organization, take their place. Not sure if this thing is still open for questions or not, but a question that's always bugged me:
Early in the development of CoV, we were told villains could join one of two villain factions, one existing faction and one new one. We got the new faction (Arachnos which was at one point SPIDER or SPYDER or something) but no existing villain faction was made joinable. I've always assumed the other playable faction was the 5th Column, and that the faction's impending playability was part of the reason its thematics were tuned away from WWII mass murdering racial supremacists, replaced by the Council. Was I correct on either point?
But then those plans were tossed and the devs decided to let us make our own villains the way we want to. By then, though, resources were already spent on introducing the Council and their takeover, so they just continued to roll with that. The only reason they were brought back is because the group was still popular with the players, despite being gone for years. -
Quote:It wasn't because of a few folks that hated ads that City of died, though, dood.Yep the Devs tried this but there were many backwards thinking/moronic players who were against. That was the stupidity the helped bring down our City. Putting up a passive ad of an actual product as opposed to a fake item...that caused an uproar. You can thank those morons, in part, for helping kill the City. No, really, go ahead and do it. Those are the same idiots that think money grows on trees and this game runs on good will.
Sorry, a little bitter over the game closing. I have nothing but venom for the narrow minded, shortsighted attitude of some players here. -

Quote:He's just being an *** grump.Nether, told you I was sincere. Sort of. I'm actually trying to be a good trollina and help spread some minor hope in your bleak situation. I do deserve the crude and rash attitude but that doesn't mean it will detour me from throwing some ideas out there. ;x Or will it? Dun dun duuuun..

Quote:I have no specific affection for the Trollina (you forgot that already?). Just that your comments came off like an ******. Maybe you aren't one. But hey I look forward to not seeing your comments. Also hilarious that you attack someone for being semi literate when your own sig location is 'in ur base'. Goodera english there. Oh wait..you must be semi literate too!
