I probably be flamed for this because it is a radical idea. But ...
Why not remove the e-mail system all together? All MMOs have e-mail which is why I say it is radical. But, it's usage here is limited compared to some others. We cannot transfer influence, enchantments, salvage, or recipes like other MMOs. It is really only text based communication. In my opinion communication is handled much more conveniently with tells and offiline messages. It would be curious what the actual usage numbers for e-mail would be without those reported for spam. My perception (which is limited and quite possibly wrong) is that it is not used much outside of sending RMT and now p0rn messages. Removing it would stop one of their more powertools, the ability to send spam while the player is offline.
Just my .02 influence.

Well, not everyone knows your global to send you an email. Some players have friends they want to keep non-global friends. Plus, many DJs use the email to keep track of requests, with 100 people sending them tells of requests, there's no way they could keep track of that! The email allows them to. So, no... removing email would be a bad idea. Removing it from TRIAL accounts would be fine, I know most of the DJs if you tell them "hey, i'm on a trial so no email, but can you play this song for me" that's a few tells compared to the 100's they'd be getting with no emails -
So, unfortunately they must have customers here, or they wouldn't still be around, or do they make so much money in WoW that they can afford to keep throwing money away trying to sell in every game, profitable or not?
Honestly, it sucks but really they need to put chat limitations on the trials. Yes, it sucks, it sucked when I did a trial of WoW that I was limited to only local chat and no emails, tells only to players who have me on their friend list, but it DOES work to keep the spammers out of broadcast, tells, and such.
Second, and WoW needs to go BACK to this, trials should require a credit card (just make sure it accepts prepaids and only charge a penny to verify, not $1 like some do, as some prepaids do NOT accept chargebacks). Yes, it sucks for those that don't have a credit card, but as I said, as long as you make sure to accept prepaids. It won't totally get rid of them, but when you ban that credit card and all accounts that used it, it will be a help.
In the end, I think stepping on the toes of the legit users sucks monkey *****, but unfortunately, it really needs to be done to combat the spammers using the trials and such. -

*cough* RIP OFF *cough* why spend money on slots when there are many servers to play on and other games give MANY more slots for free? just my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ya would you care to name said games & just how much character custimization do they offer along with "ALL" their slots?? Just curious you know, cause I don't know of any offhand that are currently available that offer quite the same combination that CoX does.
IMHO I think what the Devs' have done is simply wonderful & the fact that we're getting 2 slots as a bonus to place on the server(s) we wish along with retroactive VETs rewards. What would make it totally Gasmatic is if they do the "max your slots on 1 server for $84.99" idea or even impliment $34.99 for 12, $47.99 for 24 for those SERIOUS altoholics that really do luv their HOME Server(s). **starts handing out depends & towels just incase they do**
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, actually more and more MMORPGs are limiting slots, not giving more. For example, SWG you can have 2 character per server, but I think like 8 total? Something like that. Everquest II I KNOW is like 8 characters across all servers, all one one or one on each, you get 8 characters. Period. Want more? Get a second account (which is what people did with CoX before this).
So, what NCSoft is doing here is the OPPOSITE. They are giving us MORE SLOTS than any other MMORPG on the market currently.
Those that think they should just open up all 36 slots on every server for free, you forget that each character is data that must be saved. Prices for everything else are going up, but MMORPG fees are not... This is a way they can give us more characters, necessitating them to increase their server hard drives capacity, and not have to raise their monthly fee to pay for the new hard drives! I'm sure that's the kind of data they looked at to determine their pricing, and the vet reward slots are a GREAT loyalty bonus that was totally above and beyond what they had to do. Try asking OTHER MMORPGs for more slots on a server, and you'll only get it from one so far at a cost of $1 per MONTH after the 1st. So, just to get up to the number of characters you have BY DEFAULT on CoX on ONE server, you'd have to increase your monthly fee by $7.
So, to the person that said "other games give MANY more slots for free" please, do as I have done and tell us what MMORPG out there gives you anywhere near 36 slots ON ONE SERVER FOR FREE? -
Totally awesome, Positron! It's especially great how you are giving everyone some free new slots too, and the pricing for purchasing is even more reasonable/cheap than I expected, especially I love that you have implemented that "bulk" discount
-
As long as it STAYS out-outtable I'm ok with it... Though I think it would be really cool if they made 3 levels.
Level 1: Totally opted out. Keep your default ads.
Level 2: Player created ads ONLY. No real ads
Level 3: Real ads
EDIT: Ok, I've pretty much listened to all of the Cape Radio podcast (f you've not heard it, go to www.thecaperadio.com and download it, it's on their main page) and now I can say I'll definitely give it a try. -

Things I'd really like to see added:
A "Training Computer" or "Simulation room" enabling you to train up in your base. Preferably with cool attackable targets like are seen in RWZ, or the crey drones in outbreak.
An Auction House interface. WW is laggy enough on its own, I don't need to stand around eighty other people firing off their autoheals while I'm just trying to finish my build.
As has been mentioned, more uses for the Mission Computer. It's a really cool thing and would incentivize many more people to move into bases. Or heck, just make all current TFs/SFs available through the mission computer, as a stopgap. That would at least make the base legitimate PvE content.
Windows. I know there are technical limitations, and I don't really expect to see them, but I'd really want to see windows with <insert background here> in bases. The whole interdimensional space thing is a very limited concept - and space stations and skyscrapers have been the realms of heroes and villains forever. Let's get that in game.
Also - please rebalance prestige requirements. They're absolutely ludicrous. I'd like to know exactly how many supergroups are in the entire game who use the largest plot size. I'll be surprised if there actually are any.
[/ QUOTE ]
I"d like to /sign all of your ideas, also I'd like to voice my annoyance at the one Strike Force that is ONLY available from the Mission Computer, Silver Mantis. Please, put Silver Mantis somewhere in Cap or Shark so we don't have to find someone able to allow access to their base to do the taskforce. -
This will be SO great, although I'd ask that you make sounds as an optional DOWNLOAD, as some other MMORPGs have done with additional audio and better graphics. That way, those that don't want the sound can delete it, but those that DO like the actual sound and have the extra hard drive space can choose to download the sound!

Welcome change but I'll be one of the few that will miss Old Hollows. It's one of the only zones left that really provides much challenge and is one way to teach plaers how to navigate safely around spawns w/o grabbing agro. Personally, I think people are getting spoiled rotten with the ease of travel/difficulty and general access to things. I remember when there were no temp travel powers or paper missions..back in my day, we had to Sprint through Grendell's Gulch fifteen miles..both ways uphill..in 4 feet of snow! Surrounded by lava people.

OH yeah I don't have a 50 villain yet... I got to get cracking lol
-
Awesome! now I just need to figure out who to delete on Virtue...
-
You did great, Chase!
Grats to everyone that made it into the comic, which causes me to ask... what "showing" was the one that you got into? I was in the first (that is my 50 Empath Defender from Virtue, Cherry DeOrleans was, not Anarchist Kitten, who is also from Virtue, but is a Mastermind).
EDIT: As to the person(s) having problems downloading it, a few tips. First of all, make sure you do "Save target as..." since it's actually uploaded as a PDF, your browser is going to try to open it up IN your browser. Depending on the version of Acrobat vs. your browser, that might cause problems. SECOND, if you find that you can download it, but it says it's an invalid file, might try another PDF viewer, I myself use Foxit Reader, it's much more user-friendly (IMO) than Acrobat Reader. -

I'm generally happy to run any new special event activities multiple times and tend to have lots of fun in the process, however, I'm not impressed with this year's new stuff.
Reason 1: The Atlas and Mercy contacts don't appear on your list until you find them, at which point they are listed as being in Pocket D. That's sloppy.
Reason 2: The location for the missions don't make sense. Why does Arachnos have a warehouse in Atlas, and why would the heroes store their gifts in Mercy? It would have been more logical to travel to the opposing faction's territory, or at least provide enough text to give the illusion of actually doing so.
Reason 3: There's not even a souvenir for completing the tasks, let alone a badge to commemorate the event. Sure marriage is supposed to be a one-time deal, but all they'd have to do was make it a badge mission and add it to Ouroboros somehow. It would have been cool for heroes to get something like Best Man/Maid of Honor and villains Wedding Crasher.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, something to say we did it other that just a bit of xp would be very cool.
But then again, I am a badge-collector that UNDERSTANDS AND ACCEPTS there are badges I will never get. I don't whine and cry because I missed out on Celebrant and therefore the 5th Columnist gladiator badge on my characters (my primary badge-hunter I actually don't have Reveler either, the 2nd year badge. Only reason SOME of my characters have that badge is due to the bug of it being available 4 months after it should have been turned off). I didn't whine and cry about the Veteran reward badges and how they are so unfair to NEW badge hunters.
EDIT: As for the Wedding pack having or not having a badge, as I said before, I think it should have some badge. Not every badge hunter has to have every damn badge. You can't. Not gonna happen. Accept it and move on, have fun getting the badges you CAN get. -
The wedding was awesome, but I really wish there was something new this year as far as "rememberance" goes for the whole Valentine's Event. From what I hear, other than the PAID wedding pack, there's NOTHING actually new this year. No new badges, nothing.

This is my first Valentine's Day Event. If the sandals, victory laurel, and toga costume options are offered this year as quest rewards...are they only applicable to the characters who complete said quest? Or are they unlocked for all characters on my account?
[/ QUOTE ]
Character-specific. If you have thirty alts - get used to grinding those missions out over, and over, and over, and over, and ...
[ QUOTE ]
Also, are they unlocked permanently? Meaning, if I unlock the sandals by completing DJ Zero's quest, then can I use them 2 Months from now on a new character? Or can they only be used/applied during the Valentines Day event?
[/ QUOTE ]
Permanently, yes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless they aren't permanent due to a bug. Seems my Empath that used to be WEARING the valentines patterns no longer has them, and even when I went in to edit that costume, the options were gone. I'll have to check later if they are back yet. -

[ QUOTE ]
so we have to pay extra for costume/emotes now?
.......
[/ QUOTE ]
There is still a full complement of free Issues and content scheduled for this year and beyond for City of Heroes and City of Villains.
This pack is something that we were able to make available outside of our regular release schedule. So, no, you won't have to pay for other new costumes and emotes. We realize that the Wedding Pack won't be for everyone, but hopefully those who are interested in it will find that they like having the option to obtain it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok that sounds cool I mean I have to admit it did have me and some others wondering. I mean if the pack is "overtime" work then a small fee is cool. -
The thing that excites me the most is the part about "real" numbers.
Second, I would like to ask that NCSoft also take some time to look at customer service. It's not horrendous, but its' not great either. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Ten times out of ten, if I report a violation of a Marvel copyright, that character is genericed. However, nine times out of ten, if it's not Marvel, it seems they don't care. I've reported a guy with a nearly exact copy of Spawn (by Todd McFarlane) three times now, he's still in the game with the same costume. I could give many other examples. Also, I'd like to see better logging and tracking of what goes on in the Consignment House/Black Market, because I've "lost" over 25 million due to glitches that customer service can't find any info in their logs, so they can't recompensate me.
Overall, I love City of Heroes, but like all games, it has it's problems, and for me the problem with City of Heroes is not up to par what I expect for a game I pay $15 a month to play. Also, I will again say, I am not saying customer service is horrendous, just that there needs to be some definite improvement (especially on the issue of only seeming to protect Marvel copyrights. While I understand Marvel is the company that sued NCSoft, if they don't fairly and consistently protect all trademark and copyright violations in their game, another company may sue, and if they can show inconsistency, a judge will not be nice to NCSoft a second time, and neither will the suing party.) -

For MMOSite, note the following:
Each IP is limited to cast 10 votes on each award per day.
That's right, you can vote 10 times for each category from 1 IP each day.
[/ QUOTE ]
I personally think that unfairly skews the votes. Each ACCOUNT should be allowed one vote. Period. Just like when Kelly Monaco and John "Crybaby" Hurley were having the dance-off cause he whined that he'd lost, we on her official fan message boards were talking about how many times we had voted, how we'd used our phone 5 times, our cellphones 5 times, etc. Now, how was that at all fair (not that I care, since the dance-off never should have happened in the first place, he should have also got an award for the biggest sore loser in history!)?
Second, I'll be honest here, City of Heroes is my vote in every category, but I did not vote for NCSoft themselves in the company category. I don't want to say why here, don't want to "insult" the company and all that, but I will say that I absolutely LOVE City of Heroes and couldn't care less about the upcoming Marvel game, and I hope that now that NCSoft is in full control, the problems I have with customer service will improve, and NEXT year I can vote for NCSoft! -
[ QUOTE ]
According to ParagonWiki, rent is now based on plot size, not an assessment of the items in the base. So I expect that a lot of smaller SGs will do what I'm planning on doing and build a base heavy on resources but still sitting on the smallest plot size -- which doesn't incur any rent.
Just pointing that out. Those of you who have smaller SGs like mine are definitely advised to do what you can on the default plot rather than upgrading. Larger plots are going to get you into trouble unless you have a lot of very active members who don't mind running in SG mode a LOT, as Shayrd said.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, a few issues ago, if you had a 3mil value base and 5 million unspent, your total net worth was 8 million so you were paying prestige based on being a 8million value base. Every month. Now, they've changed it so only the vaule of plot matters to rent.
The way they are doing it now is still making the big SGs richer and the smaller SGs are going to fall because who wants to be a member of a SG with ONE teleporter, when they can be a member of an SG with a teleporter to every zone? -
[ QUOTE ]
I had hoped the devs had enough respect for peoples' privacy that they would provide a way for those not wanting to be a part of this to opt out of it. From what I've read about this 'feature' it seems I was wrong. While we can block four catagories of information our characters, complete with pictures, will still appear on the site. I shouldn't be surprised considering thier pattern of trying to force people to use other game features many don't consider to be fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
EQII and WoW don't have ANY 'opt-out" features. They don't give account names, but they don't have any of the options NCSoft is giving us either. -
I'm know it has been said before, but honestly, all this prestige is doing is giving the large supergroups a huge boost, and scrwing the little ones. It's already hard enough to establish a new SG when everyone wants to be in the top ten SGs causet hey got the big cool base... now, with this, what is all the new SGs supposed to go make 25 trial accounts and just spam invite a bunch of throwaway people?
HOnestly, if everyone is doing this crap (except those without the time/friends, or those like me that consider it to be exploitative and cheating), why bother giving the prestige based on members? Why not just give 3 million prestige to all supergroups and be done with it?
EDIT: After reading more of this thread, I realize that what one person said is true. NCSoft is aware that people will "cheat" to get their 3 million prestige, and they don't give a damn. This is just yet another time when I see how people can say that video game EULAs don't hold up in court, because they set rules and regulations and expect us to follow them, and then they pick and choose when and which rules they enforce. NCsoft isn't the only video game company that does it either. I've personally seen cases of SOE and Blizzard both breaking their own EULAs, in my mind meaning I legally don't have to follow their EULA (though I still do, and I still waste my time reporting violations that I know will not be punished). Ask any lawyer, if it's a contract we sign, they sign it too... and if EITHER side breaks the contract, it's null and void. -

Where is the contact that sets you up with the Ouroboros?
I remember someone saying it, but I forgot
[/ QUOTE ]
First, you have to be lvl 25 AFAIR.
Second, you have to be Entrusted with the Secret. This involves completing a stroy arc that involves time Travel, like Echo Down the Aeons, the Mysterious Mr. Ubelman, the Psychochronometron arc (from Faultline), etc.
When you are Entrusted with the Secret, you'll get an Ouroboros power that places a teleport pad on the ground. Go through this, and you'll go to the Ouroboros sanctuary. Talk to Pilgrim to get started.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or you can hop into someone else's portal, and get the chrononaut exploration badge at the top of the tower in Ouroboros to then get the "Secret" badge. -

I kinda dont get this... So by enabling everything, your information(does global name and global friendlist count? or just character name and character friendlist?) people will be able to look at ur stats and stuff online, as in on a website?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, EQII and WoW already have similar features, not sure if it's "proper" to give you actual links on the CoH forums, but if you PM me I can give you the URL, or if Lighthouse will give me permission to post a link to my characters website for example purposes. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
if this is going to be something that reflects our stats on the website, I am against something like this as it just gives the RMT spammers something to work with especially if it is a friends list. I would feel horrible to subject friends to that spamming because I didnt click an option. If it strictly an in game thing then make the friends list non-viewable by default.
[/ QUOTE ]
We don't believe this will make it any easier for spammers to reach you.
Additionally, we are aware of the situation with in-game email spam and working to address the problem in a future version of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
As much as I hate to say it, really the best way to do so is to do what EQII and World of Warcraft have done. Don't allow tells or emails to people that do not have you on their friend list. While I can from my trial on EQII say it's annoying as hell if you don't know anyone, having been on both sides, I can say I'd prefer to not have tells/email on my trial than have to deal with the RMT crap on my paid account.
