My Trick/archery just dinged 50 this week (first 50 after over 3 years of play - that should say something right there to the enjoyability of this combo). I found your previous advice VERy helpful and often referred to it during my journey to 50. Again thanks for keeping this game enjoyable.
I almost felt sad when I hit 50 because I enjoyed leveling up this hero. I avoided/declined powre-lvl offers and bridging because I liked playing this character so much.
I did not get stamina and yet run both assault and tactics ALL the time. My endurance dipped when I was fighting with combat jumping and sprint on but other than that felt no pain. It is going to be difficult finding another hero I enjoyed as much as this one.
Again great guide.

Don't follow your Stealthed scout too closely! ! !

A-freaking-men! I can't tell you how many times I've gone looking around corners and into rooms with Stealth going and some blaster follows me in and aggros the whole group. >_<

This happens a lot when I shoot flash arrow as well. Team thinks I am attacking and starts before everyone is ready.
My tip:
Info all controllers and defenders on your team and see what form of mitigation they have and annouce your findings to the team.
Example:
"Excellent, a rad. Save teh anchor for last."
"Nice a kin. Stay near the scrapper/tank for heals"
" Yay, bubbles."
I do this to avoid the in mission comments from others yelling HEAL!! HEAL!! to the trick arrow defender. -
Nice read. My spines/dark is parked at lvl 16 for now (having too much fun with my trick on teams and solo'ing my fire/kin for my first 50) but see the AOE goodness in the build. The day I start him up again, I will remember this thread.
-
Very nice and well written. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't you once say this combo was very boring to play i nthe higher levels? I have a Ill/storm lvl 22 and wondering if she is worth pursuing in the later lvls.
Don't know if I am misreading your earlier comments on this build or if you have changed your mind on it.
Thanks -

Same here. And for me it ususlly is when I am too tired to do anything about it. I'll say, "that's a great idea, I hope I remember it in the morning." But I usually don't -
19 out of 21. Dang I should have gotten them all. Grrr.

So what I seem to be gathering from this thread is that with a well built, well organized team, City of Heroes is not able to provide a fitting challenge, even when you do everything you can to make it as hard as possible?
Very interesting....

He did mention there was a team wipe and some fights were impossible without redcuing the difficulty. That sounds something like a challenge. -
I am a pretty experienced controller having got to the mid 30's and 40's with Ice/rad, earth/storm, and fire/kin (also dabbled in grav/ff and mind/emp) and am looking to tackle Illusion now.
I have three right now (lvl 22 ill/kin, lvl 22 illusion/emp, and a lvl 19 illusion/storm). Not really going to pursue the ill/emp so wondering about which other illusion should I take further.
I like both kin and storm as secondaries and am well-versed in both (lvl 32 kin/rad and lvl 37 storm/dark defenders). My current love affair, however, is with kin in that I am playing my Fire/kin a lot. Kin just makes things fast. And I like fast.
Here are some concerns I have with the combos though:
Does the knockback from the Illusioon pets affect the kin powers THAT much?
Is Illusion/storm boring to play? (read Tal-N's insightful but depressing guide)
Will I have trouble teaming in the high lvls with a Illusion/storm? (Can imagine kin will be always wanted in teams)
Will I get kin burnout playing a Illusion/kin after playing a fire/kin or is the play style reeally different?
I thank you in advance for you responeses to my "not so great debate" -

Things that I'd really like to see for issue 4:
New Costume Choices
PvP Arenas
Skills
Another Epic AT or two avaliable to Everyone
Real post 50 content, more raids etc.

I am in a history mood today. -
Good suggestions. I haven't yet done the respec but in reading the guides to this respec, your notes would seem to make your life easier on this mission.

I too played Champions since '85 and been through good and bad GM's. A bad GM seemed to have the common trait of loving their NPC villians too much to where they must be VERY challenging and sometimes needing luck to defeat.
Did we as players ask for these herculean challenges? No. We enjoyed the game as is and wanted it to remain the game we fell in love with.
In looking at these changes coming down the road, I see some good (new powers; non-stackable pets for pertrollers) some bad (double rechange/half duration for controllers; taunt limits) and ugly (reducing defenses to an AT that relies on defenses).
I am just holding my breath on this issue. -

As an FYI I'll no longer be fielding questions. As soon as I finish collecting some badges (TF badges) I will be retiring from CoH.
I want to thank all those who helped put this thread together and thank all those who helped answer questions when I wasn't around.
It has been a real pleasure being a part of this community.

Thanks for being a mainstay of CoH. I really liked using your guide, and was a big inspiration. Whatever you wind up playing, I'm sure you'll be a value to that community also.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It was watching a superman-build tank in action that inspired me to make one myself. It has been a blast.
As others have said, I was hoping you would guide us in the difficult times ahead for this class.
Again thank you for all your hard work in making this game fun for a lot of people. -
Started my tanker build last night and while on a team a scrapper began to tell me how to build my hero (in a know-it-all kind of way). I simply stated that i was doing the "superman" build and he just said "ah" and shutted up the rest of the mission. That was nice.
Now for a newbie tank question. Although I like the damage output making this build soloable, I do like to team a lot. I notice that taunt is taken late. You have done a lot of testing of this build and I really don't want to monkey around with it so is there a way to hold aggro without taunt?
Should I move up and push back everything?
Rely on punch provoke?
I know a tank doesn't NEED taunt, but . . . I don't know . . . can I be an adequete team tanker without it till lvl 30?
Again thank you for this guide and the work you did making it. -
Havok, I hate you. I was duo'ing with me (ill/empathy controller) and a scrapper (?/regen). We cleared out the mission except for Dr. V (AV). We tried to take him down but barely made a dent before having to retreat.
Recruited a tanker and while waiting for him, discussed tactics. My job was to simply heal while the others did the damage (since my holds barely took).
Tank arrives and states he is going to check the room where Dr. V is. Scrapper and I waited a bit and then I decided to turn invis and enter the room. The tank is exchanging blows with Dr. V!! I couldn't tell what he was doing from any health loss on the team window, I knew he was doing this by actually seeing him EXCHANGING blows with Dr. V.
I call the scrapper to . . . help? . . . the tanker and instead of me being relagated to healing, I threw out some spectral wounds as to not appear like an xp leech.
After the fight when I exclaimed that I was impressed with the tanker's abilities, he simply said, "Superman build. Thanks for the team, but I got to go."
Dang you havok, Now I have to delete an alt to make a "superman" tanker. (say "bye bye" fragile-perma debt blaster I never play anymore) -
I'm 39 (wow that sounds old) and live in Honolulu. I am a deputy prosecuting attorney (this game let's me do what I want to scum ). Grew up on video games and RPG's, but this is my first MMORPG (and I'm sooo addicted )
-
This is also to first MMOG and I really enjoy it and am very addicted. I have read comics all my life and played pen-n-paper hero games. This is my dream game. Thank you for making it.

You convinced me to take this secondary. Played dark and eng seconds to death. Thanks again.

Good job! Already bookmarked it for easy referral
It would be nice to check the other boards and see if there are other comprehensive guidelines for hte other classes and website those as well. I know it's a lot of work but one that would be used quite often.
Thanks for your efforts -
I for one want to thank you for putting your experiences down in words. I Just starting playing last night but have been reading the boards for awhile. Advice like yours helps both the "powergamers" and the "role-players." Please keep it up.
