Quote:And people go around saying I hate blasters because I think they don't solo as well as they should and trade too much survivability for too little damage.
Fortunately for us all, there exists a thing called "tee-uh-ming." Tea Amming? Oh, teaming! That was it. I don't see the point of running any blaster solo in the first place, if you're farming you can do a lot better than that.
Anyway, My fire/Assualt rifle/Archery blasters are all having a good guffaw at your perception of their inability to farm. -
Quote:- Elite bosses... forget it. Pull out your scrapper. I don't have a brazillion influence, and am an everyday type of player. The fact is without any form of control, I have only beat one of the two Elite Bosses I've met in the game.
There are plenty of blaster combinations that can handle EBs and do so without spending an insane amount of influence. I don't know if DP could or could not be part of such a build but that doesn't matter. Facing off against EBs is something that is part of the game. If you are feeling it can't handle it with DP you have answered the questioned "Is DP that bad?" -
Quote:I saw that and immediately thought of thisBut is it FUN? That's the only question that needs answering.
Quote:Why play a set which is inefficient compared to other sets? Because this game is not fundamentally about efficiency of builds. It's about building a character that looks cool to you
Anyway what isn't fun for me is seeing key powers in my secondary being able to be replaced and bettered by pool powers and IOs. -
Quote:Not it's damage, or damage type. The animations got shortened a bit though. And after that suddenly everyone was going "Look at that, archery actually does do good damage". Of course, it did the same damage before the changes. They just made a few powers animate faster, such as blazing arrow. Granted, now the archery snipe animates fast enough I've gotten it off while red caps were meleeing me. Without having to stun them first.
Well animation time and casting time are a key element of DPS.
Just a note lack of aim isn't the only problem I would assign to DP. The tradeoff of selectable secondary effects for lesser secondary effects the very lightweight mininuke on an inappropriately long timer also contribute. -
Quote:Funny, but I remember a time when archery was considered the weakest blaster set due to being all lethal damage. Dual pistols is by no means a 'weak' set. Yes, it lacks an Aim type power. But I find that relying on Aim and/or buildup is silly. Aim rarely gets used on my other blasters. In part cause I keep forgetting it.
Hasn't archery been changed several times since then ? -
Quote:The new TFs are quite the rude shock. They are fun in their own right but they seem designed to poke a finger in the eye of everyone that built for S/L defense, or defense without debuff resistance.I'm kind of getting more bummed on S/L for Blasters, actually. It's harder to get and more expensive, and can be more affected by mez (depending on how you build). It might just be my own experience, but it also seemed like my E^3 build gets hit by more mez than my builds with Ranged defense (the E^3 has S/L in the mid-30s).
-
Quote:This. You are combining what is one of the weakest primaries with what is arguably the weakest secondary. If you really enjoy patient play in this game and have inf to burn you may be able to make it work for you.Really in all seriousness do not make a Device toon with DP. Just look at all the AR Device issues and gripes and how guys are just trying to put purple sets into AR Device to make on par with another lesser costing build..
Make a Traps AR Defender and you will be at full positional defense cap and loving it..
All you need is a Traps defense cap build, becuase your other at will have no bearing in getting to defense cap. You can just slot up Traps and other powers like Maneuvers get defesne cap and then slot the rest into DP. You can make up for the lacking DP by going Damage Defense debuff in the incarnate system..
IF you hear they are going to update Device then I would wait.. But they are not and will not so go with TRAP and be happy. BTW you can go Corruptor also and just go good. -
-
You don't need that much recharge for fire and if you aren't interested in exemping the spiritual alpha will fill the shortfall in your sets and boost energy's stuns

Quote:How flattering you imitated my format and style. Thank you.Welcome to the market forums, do note that a usual troll has made his requisite appearance along with obligatory troll statements.
Please feel free to continue to prove him wrong at your own leisure. Oh and do try the resistance IOs they are like printing influence. -
Quote:I don't recall anyone, on the forums or ingame, ever saying Blasters are worthless.
To use this thread to now say a Blaster can outlive a Scrapper, Brute or Tank in any/all situations outside of AE...........
on top of that we have Rodion saying Defiance may be or is the best mez protection in the game?.........
it sometimes amazes me how some folks can be so shameless.
Oh this is definitely a response to the "why a blaster thread". It was pretty obvious from the first post. The problem is that the OP just reinforced the arguments made there.
I19 with inherent fitness and the incarnate slots aren't helping either. Blasters at least used to own the low level game and really didn't slip behind till the 20s. -
Quote:It is something that seems nicer than it is. The problem is it doesn't scale well and is one the things most likely to get you killed. Firing a ranged attack first into an X8 spawn means you 10-16 attacks coming right back at you.Without any intent of lauding over other ATs and whatnot, it is true that the advantage of being able to fire our attacks at range in any and all directions, as soon as we wish, is an oft overlooked advantage that is not reflected on paper well at all.
Second @the O.P. wonderful build, but the cost was what 7 billion ? 8 billion ?
You also have the gladiators armor unique in there which is at best difficult to obtain even when paying insane amounts.
You really need to compare to similar priced and hard to put together builds for other ats.
I redid My Arch/ment blaster for I19 then I got very sad when I saw that for the cost of the arch/ment I could redo both my elec/shield scrapper and my fire/shield scrapper to be Elec/shield/fire and fire/shield/fire and both would have superior performance in every meaningful way.
Note: Fire blast is in both their attack chains now and it actually does more damage and more dpa than the fire blaster equivalent. This is nice for the toons but somehow makes me a little ill.
Edit as points of comparison
Arch/ment
180% rech
S/L def 45.6
1600 hp
Regen 15.9 hp/S
Fire/shield
141% Rech
Melee def 47.8
Ranged def 45.9
AoE 48.7
Resistance
SL 28.3 without One with the shield
53.8 with it
HP: 1992
Regen 22.4
The fire Shield also does its burst AoE damage faster than the arch/mental. The Elec/Shield just totally eclipses the arch/ment.
The arch/ment has 4 purple sets, 3 of 5 one of 6 and a bunch of horrendously expensive IOs that you used to have a hard time giving away.
The scrappers don't have a single purple set between them and their most expensive pieces are the recovery/regen uniques and the lotg globals. -
If you have alts you aren't playing
1st give them some inf
2nd put out lowball bids for expensive items
3rd wait a week
4th come back and check if your lowball bids filled.
5 A If they filled relist higher
5 B. If they didn't, either raise your bid on the item or change the item you are bidding on
6. Come up with odd and convoluted logic how this process is good for the buyer and seller and is a tremendous sacrifice on your part.
Note Bene many people start with 6. -

Quote:Let me get this straight, You don't believe there is any average price and number of transactions where the rate of inf destruction will equal or exceed the rate of inf creation ?Is that your weird way of saying "ooops, I said that wrong"? Regardless, you're so very welcome! That'll be 50 billion INF, please.
And you have to admit that it didn't make much sense the first time around. Some might have even found it comical, in which case -- look! You ARE providing lulz here!
And I still find the premise flawed, for the same reasons others are pointing out, and because more INF is entering the non-closed system every minute.
Without any changes to the system, I don't think we're going to see inflation stop until the playerbase and the INF generation start to significantly dwindle, which hopefully won't be for a while. In the meantime, as prices rise, I can just generate more raw INF and sell more stuff and thus keep pace, so I'm not personally worried about it.
Also you think that lower prices will happen when there are fewer players, because the game won't be generating as much new inf ? -
Quote:I think its already proven that the market fees actually add more then they remove, due in part to the money changing hands. In order to remove say, 1 billion inf from the markets, when starting at 2 billion, you have to have it trade hands a large amount of times. To remove the first 200 million is pretty easy, but then you have .8 billion to remove, and the most you can cut off is 180 million, and you've already traded it twice.
3rd trade 1.62billion
4th trade 1.458billion
5th trade 1.3122billion
6th trade 1.18098billion
7th trade 1.062882billion
8th trade .9565938billion
So, in order to turn 2 billion into 1 billion from just market fees itself, it'll take you 8 trades. which is a VERY long time, and all that money is just flowing around in the market in the mean time, trading hands all that time.
Market fees is a very slow way to burn off inf, and its being produced A LOT faster then the markets burn it. Heck, I'm willing to bet inf is being produced faster then even the Crazy 88s are burning it, and that's without a massive AE exploit going on to fuel the fire.
It really doesn't matter. Its the relationship between the rate inf gets generated /time to the rate market removes it/time. IIRC pre shield charge nerf the top farmers were doing something like 40/mil an hour in raw inf ? more average players on teams 4 million an hour ? Well every trade of a half billion inf purple removes over an hour of that farmers inf generation from the game and 10 hours of the more average players inf generation. If prices double because there is lots of inf floating around and the number of transactions stays constant and the amount of play time and play style stays constant the market will be destroying twice as much inf, and the total amount of inf will start to seek a lower balance point.
There are other things going on that complicate the situation. The players aren't automatons and change their behavior as conditions change. -
Quote:With you so far, with you on the second line and huh? The third line seems circular, and I'm guessing and hoping a typo. Should it read "...exceeded by the rate of inf destruction" instead?
If so, I DO indeed get it now. If it's correct as it stands, and thus circular, then I'll admit to still being a bit fuzzy.
Thank you for proofreading. -
Quote:Well the intent wasn't to make things harder for badge collectors, if it came across that way, it was entirely a failure on my part to properly express myself. The aim was to have the set of badges more accurately reflect what was done to gain them. I had forgotten about the empath kerfuffle but there is another where there should be a plus badge for people that achieve the old requirement.
p.s. I'm not happy about declared non-badge collectors coming on to the thread and suggesting ways to make things harder for badge collectors. I don't think a pvper would like it if I went to a pvp thread and suggested a nerf to something they do.
Now help me out here. I am not any kind of a collector but I have known many and in every case they want the real deal or nothing at all. How is it you are happy having a badge that by the current standard isn't the real deal ? Are the lot of you competing just on count and the actual badges don't matter ? Is it about gaining all of them ? If a glitch in the system came along and gave you all of them would that be fine ? Even though you hadn't actually earned them ? -
Quote:Just how clueless are you ? Or are you trying to say the developers should read these forums for tips on how to make more plausible lies ?And YOU provide many of the lulz here, too -- but I'm not entirely sure you do it on purpose. But regardless of the intent, thanks for the result! And you've obviously been around the forums long enough to have been here for Positron's excuse why they couldn't merge the markets. Do you remember it? Did you recognize my remark as a not-so-thinly-veiled stab at it? Apparently not.
Here lets look at what happened.
While (devs think dialogue is possible) Do
begin
1. Market forum to developers => merge the markets
2. Devs => to market forum its not a problem and not on the calendar
end
3. Make excuse so you don't have to listen to the idiots anymore
Quote:Condensed Eldorado needs to take a course covering at least O.D.Es
Prices are proportional to the ratio of the amount of inf in the game to the amount of available items in the game. The more available inf/available goods the higher prices can go.
The higher prices go, the more inf is removed from the system
At some overall price point the rate of inf generation is equaled or exceeded by the rate of inf removal
At that point prices stabilize or start to decline.
And here is the kicker
It really doesn't matter how high market prices go because you can always buy it with tickets or merits. The only people ever put out by inflation are those sitting on large piles of inf that want to quickly IO their toons using the market.
Quote:As I said, I'm just concerned that with the economy left unchecked, some of the more desirable rare recipes will be trading up around 2 billion mark as well down the road. Want to buy a Numina's proc or a LotG 7.5? Oops -- time to hit the forums and put a bid up there, since they're all at the market cap.
Or do you mean you should be entitled to buy the good gear in the game just because you play the market game well ?
It seems the devs were listening to people about changes that needed to be made about how the game works. They just rejected the viewpoint you are pushing.
Edit:Red removal was generation -

That thread had a discussion of Spiritual vs Musculature for blasters in general.
Its hard to answer your question without knowing what your build looks like and how you play. In general you aren't going to see much from most of the alpha slots that you can get now especially if you don't have any problems with your build currently. The alpha just isn't that much for blasters. In your case Cardiac might be the way to go if you have the resist epic armor and you took tough. Fire/Fire can be end heavy, and the resistance enhancement if you have both tough and fire armor should just be noticeable.
The other choice that comes to mind without having any idea what you built would be spiritual have your aim and build up more often for more damage, have your aoes up more often for more damage, have your consume up more often to power all that damage. -
-
Quote:What would be the most efficient in these cases:
teaming
farming
AV soloing
I'm looking for a new main as a general character that can do most of these things. I have been away for too long and have a hard time deciding between the two. I know that fire/traps is a god for AV soloing but he might have some downsides I haven't considered.
For now I have been playing them both and they are a lot of fun.
Traps is a great set but its not a farming implement. -
Quote:Even at the max, its not that great a percentage improvement to your damage. I am not certain but depending on your build it looks like you might get more from having aim and build up, up more often than you would from direct damage enhancement. Aim + Build up add 160% of base if your build has them up 20% more after the spiritual boost your have gotten the damage boost for free. If you don't have a high recharge build that can be pretty easy to do.I'm admittedly up in the air trying to choose an alpha boost myself, but if you're planning on building the slot all the way up then that would probably factor into your decision as well. So that's either a 45% or a 33% boost, 2/3rds of which would ignore ED.
At a glance that seems to be somewhere around the boost of a small or medium red insp. Still not the most fantastic thing ever, but more than just a 4% bump to damage at least. -
Quote:Is there anyway to beat these with a blaster.
I am running Acrobatics Combat Jumping with 45 s/l/e and still having a hard time with sleeps and stuns. This of drops my defense and I die.
Trying to keep up with a electric shield scrapper and this requires me to get there before he does.
Good luck keeping up with a heavily IOed elec/shield scrapper those things are like wrecking balls on speed. -
Quote:Hadn't thought of those but it makes perfect sense
As far as your idea of having something like a Dodger and Master Dodger badges I wouldn't mind that concept for other badges as well. For instance I earned all the top epic badges (Leader, Immortal, Empath, etc.) years ago back before any of their requirements were nerfed. It'd be cool if somehow that was reflected in my badge listing so that people wouldn't think I got the "crutched" easy versions of those.
