Ex and Lighthouse already work for NCSOFT. They are NCSofts Board Reps here. So, they stay put. -
i would like to know some of the longer term plans, even though they said they werent ready to disclose them.
Also, im betting this means Cryptic is focussing all of its attention on the marvel MMO. Very interesting. I guess this means no more statesman around these parts?
Can we get a Dev list of who's around and who stayed with Cryptic? -

real rewards for PvP are being worked on by the PvP event committee.
While PvP doesnt drive this game, it eventually will have to if the Devs do not put out enough content per issue to keep folks busy and entertained.
I think its lame that i pay 15 bucks a month for content that takes me 2 weeks to go through. If it wasn't for PvP, i wouldnt be here, and neither would a lot of other ppl. I dont know if you noticed it, but the lower end PvP is actually growing while the Higher end is filtering out. I think that is because a lot of ppl are looking for something else to do. -

UO which is still going after like 10 years has PVP ground up.
None of them had it shoehorned in after the fact. COX PVP is going to do nothing for subs because it was shoehorn into a system that was not built for pvp.
Sorry since the empty arenas in I4 to what ever patch you want to talk about has had basically empty pvp zones

yeah, that's why it would probably be a good thing if they came out with an expansion or maybe a new game with the CoH engine but specificly tuned around PvP

qft. It's a hard pill to swallow guys, as I like pvp, but this playerbase will never be driven by pvp. The game would fundamentally have to be re-written from the ground up with balance in mind for that to happen.

I disagree, i think the imbalances are just as much of a problem in PvE. People just get more frustrated at the nature of PvP, and that it is actually challenging.
Eventually people who level slow, or run through the content at a snails pace will catch up, and get bored like the rest of us. The PvP engine in this game is so superior to other games its such a shame it isnt utilized more. As far as balance goes, its not to bad in large teams. Sure, some powersets need some attention, however they can be made to work with a different set of rules for PvP.
Example, taking away blasters 30% unresisted dmg, but giving sets like AR /Fire/Ice/Devices, TA Etc a small boost of unresisted dmg to be on par with fire/ice, and /energy /electric.
Tankers and scrappers with underused melee can also get similiar bonus, so that their overall dmg is on par with EM. I wouldnt tone down EM because it really isnt overpowered in team PvP.
These are examples, and their are many more...basically all the devs have to do is give a reason to bring the underused powersets and at's into PvP. Its all in the numbers and CAN be done if they so took the time to do it.
There would be no re-writing or anything like that. The overall mechanics are good, fast paced, and just need some fine tuning. -
I tend to agree mostly with the OP. Im not a numbers guy, and im not going to compare CoX with any other MMO subscriptions wise. However, i do strongly believe PvP can increase the longevity of a game. It may or may not be the only way to increase it, as i think games like WoW would still be successfull if it had no PvP servers.
I think PvP right now, really is the only content in CoX that doesnt grow old.
Sure, the STF and the new hami will be cool....until its completed a couple of times. The biggest thing that bothers me, is that i can litterly complete, and run through all the content of one issue before a new issue is out.
To me, i think that is a huge problem that CoX has. Sometimes, i can run through all the content in a matter of days, or weeks. I think that is what gives many many players, pvpers, and pvpers alike that Stale feeling. Other folks may take the whole 3-4 months of each issue to reach their goals etc. But for alot of us vets that have many many toons already at lvl 50, the leveling grind is just simply tiresome. Same maps, same mission set ups, and very little challenge. I mean seriously, i have 20 level 50's of my own right now, and i have about 3-4 toons that are not far off. Im done Pling, im done grinding. I want to play my current characters and experience something challenging and unique.
Unfortunetely, the only thing i find challenging is PvP. I wish i could fall in love with PvE again, i really do. But if the developers can't develop more content to keep me busy, and end this tiresome wait for new toys, im not going to stick around, unless there is enough PvP to keep my interest. -

you'd be suprised. retaining knowledge is one thing, keeping sharp and recognizing certain things, and knowing the latest trends is another. When i came back from my time off in december, i was a lot worse than i used to be. I still am. i was picking up targets better, being more evasing, had timing down to a science. Now, i just get pwned for the most part. but hey, im havin fun. -
late? it starts at 6 PM eastern, and runs all night, giving ppl from every time zone an opportunity to play. If you cant make it, you cant make it. I just wanted to make sure you didnt mix the times up.

well, if you have time, you should try to come to this thing on test tonight. If its successfull, arena wednesday's on test could be something we can try out more often. Its great because it doesnt really require "practice" for those who dont have the time to do so. I know what you mean by having play time decrease....your circumstances in RL are different of course, but ive had really limited amts of time to do anything organized. stinks but, eh thats life i guess.

words cant explain what veil means to hvnd, as a friend, a teamate, and a leader. I just heard the news a few mins ago, and i dont know what to say, except that i hope his family, and friends heal and overcome this tragic loss. Gods speed veil, you'll be sorely missed.

Yeah I confused you guys with Hell's Army, it would have been nice to see Tribute and any other of the first few pvp sg's compete in the what has become a pretty competitive landscape of pvp groups although small in numbers. I would have even like to have seen Penance stick around 2 more months so LD could have fought them after the Freaks. Though it seems the lure of the basketweaving/jelly bean gathering is too strong for most.
On a sidenote, I recommend to anyone to go see the movie 300, the movie is unbelievable, the fight scenes unreal and it even sticks to what is mostly historical truth. Saw it on an Imax this morning well worth the trip and time.

Actually Castle, i have to own up to doing similiar types of things. I soloed every single TF for the task force commander accolade with my Heroes. The missions would spawn small amounts, and be easy to complete. The only trouble i had was with babbage, in which a simple call in bcast took care off. For any really hard AV's i could just have my other account loaded in, or a friend show up to the fight, and the AV's would be reletively easy.
1 Brute can deystroy and AV when his fury bar is all the way up, and he has a buffer on the side. I think nukes and shivans would make it possible. Keep in mind shivans take about 10-15 min prep time. Not all that much.
I think they are overpowered and should be nerfed significantly. but thats just me. -
well, if there is no anticipated change to shivans, or warburg nukes, is it safe to say that RV Heavies are not on the list as well?
Shivans, WB nukes and such are also created ALOT of havok in base Raids. Not only because of their dmg potential, but because of the already laggy envirnment.
I made our base very wide open, and almost barren. Its completely raidable, and its pretty close to a no lag environment, including when SGs bring in those pets. However, every smaller, confined base with lots of garbage, the lag makes me client crash
My real question for you castle, is balance has ALWAYS been a thing the CoH Devs addressed and adjusted. Hence ED, the Global Defense Nerf and every other little change in between. What makes this any different? How many times have AV's been changed because Regen scrappers, certain trollers, and Tankers have been able to kill select AVs. Even back then, when my scrapper was soloing AV's, they took a good 15 mins to kill.
In this thread the OP killed Ghost widow in 2-3???
Thats quite absurd. Let alone how it completely throws the balance in PvP.
Is the lack of attention to this because of money? man-power? decay of the game??? -

Actually, UnicyclePeon, there is an easy fix to the whole PL problem that we have had several threads about. Just have everyone in a team lower than the active mission level SK'd directly to it (just like a PvP zone SK). Then, adjust the XP rate accordingly. Problem solved (if the tech can handle it).

Pling is no longer a "problem". There arent 800 ppl spamming the channels. The Plers do their thing, the non Plers do theres.
Oh, and you're system would make the normal lvl grind...a [censored]. Nobody would enjoy that. -
