any clues on what might happen to regen?, im starting to get scared. and if they say that invuln it too powerful and empathy arent, when there are team fights wont invuln be "turd" like? and is PvP a seperate program from regular CoH?
[/ QUOTE ]
My main is a Spines/Regen so I did ask about Regen. Statesman basically said "regen is great" but never said anything negative about it. Never said "nasty", "too powerful", "unbalanced". He did use those words when talking about other powers / powersets. -

Thanks everyone who posted about the event, lots of great info here.
[snip...]
I was wondering if you (or anyone else who tried the new costume options) could tell me if a skirt that looks like this is going to be available in Issue 4.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not that I saw. They do have cute little kittens and pandas that can sit on your femail avatar's shoulder though. -

I asked about Pistols ... power sets. Statesman confirmed "yup", so they're comming.
[/ QUOTE ]
Was this in referrence to scrappers at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, yes it was. -
[ QUOTE ]
Any more details on how Taunt is setup to work in PvP as well as point and click travel - aside from what has already been said.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually yes, Statesman told me how it works and it's cool, but he also asked me to not share details on it yet with the greater community. Sorry. -

Fantastic stuff Pax! God bless you!
And what's this about a Stand-alone hero creator? Does that mean offline?
It all sounds great. Nice work.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dunno, they sure had a lot of cables running around. I'm assuming they had a psudo-server or something in their little curtained off area. They did keep telling me that "it's the stand alone version" because I kept saying "hey, I found a bug...". I wonder if I hold some kind of record for /bug reports.
What? No stars?!
Man, I'm never getting off of 2. -
Heh, sorry I didn't post much - I was really tired.
The one thing that stood out to me as really odd/strange was that there is only one, yes one, animator at Cryptic. That means all of the animations in the game were all done by the same person. No wonder they don't have time to make new powersets! Katana and Martial Arts should feel really special for getting new animations.
David "Zeb" Cook (Lord Recluse) has some cool stuff to say about CoV Contacts. Basically they're not like CoH Contacts that say "hey, there's this problem. You want to solve it?" Instead they're going to be more proactive. One of the guys there (not Zeb) said "think more powerful villian or underworld gangster that you'd better keep happy or else).
Villians are getting minions to boss around. I almost did a back flip when I was told this. Oooh, my own private army to smack heroes around with! Zeb told me they're still working on exactly how to have villians enter Paragon City and "create" missions for PvP against heroes. I had no good ideas for him, maybe one of you do (not that he asked for ideas mind you).
Statesman said several parts of the UI are under scrutiny and are in need of being improved. For exmample Issue #4 has point-n-click travel. They didn't have the Arena available for me to try, so I didn't test any of that stuff.
I did test the new "stand alone" hero creator. Ooh boy is it powerful. The new costume options are great and one of the girls there said there are a few more options going in now, more in Issue 5 (probably) and a lot more in CoV. The Asian outfits are cool, very cool. The new suit and jacket options are things I've been waiting for since Closed Beta. Femal avatars got a lot of new clothing options. A while new skirt catagory and a bunch of new shoe styles. They also got some new hair styles. Oh, yeah the over sized Japanese socks are in there. Rejoince, those of you who were begging to get them.
You can shrink/enlarge every part of your body via a cool little slider system. The face has (I think) 7 areas that can be adjusted. From eye size, to cheek bones, chin size, to over all head width and height. All 7 features can be sclaed in x, y, and/or z directions. I believe we'll not be seeing to heroes with the same face anymore.
No new capes. No new aruas. You can do emotes while in the editor so you can see what your hero looks like sitting, doing jumping jacks, dancing, etc.
I asked about how PvP a lot. I'm sad to say Statesman said it was "off the record" meaning I cannot tell you much, but I can say that they're really thought in through and no AT is going to "suck". Several of the people there said Radiation Defenders and Tankers are "really nasty". Statesman said, and I quote "it's not that other sets are underpowered, it's that Invuln is, well, a bit over the top". That was in reference to PvP in particular. They system for Taunt and Controller sounds cool, I'll have to see it in action to really understand how it works exactly - I think you'll all be please. They took last Thrusday as a company to do massive PvP events and managed over 150 heroes going at it in a free-for-all. The QA girl there said "with no noticable lag, too bad we didn't have more people - beta will be intresting."
I asked about Pistols and a Street Fighting power sets. Statesman confirmed "yup", so they're comming. He did say CoV is taking time away from developing those powersets so we probably won't see them anytime soon. But, I've been following City of Heroes and Cryptic since before NCsoft was in the picture and they always say "not anytime soon" and we've gotten things within months, so...
Finally, I did get one piece of info that made me happy, but will make a lot of people really whiny. I was told they're looking for a "semblance of balance, but we're not looking for absolute balance." So, when PvP hits and you Empathy Defender are crying foul because you can't win a single match 1-vs-1 too damn bad. Stop crying "nerf" and make a PvP hero already.
OK, well I was there for slightly over two hours so I'm sure there's stuff I'm just forgetting to mention. Ask questions and I'll be happy to tell you the answer if I can and I know. -
Just got back from WonderCon in San Francisco. Got to meet Statesman, Lord Recluse, and some other people who are working on CoV and CoH. All very cool, all very nice and talkative. I think I spoke with Statesman the longest (but of course). They had all kinds of info on CoV and what they're working on in CoH. Of course, all of it was appended by "but things change, so we're not 100% sure".
I really wanted to say thanks to Jack, Zeb, and the other who probably want to remain nameless until CoV is live .
Anybody else hit WonderCon? I can't have been the only one.
PS.
Jack does read the boards. He was doing it while he was there - I noticed that he reads without logging in though, could explain why I never seem him marked as logged in. -

Unfortunately, other considerations prevent us from attending Dragon Con.

Glad I live near to San Jose and San Francisco. Hey, if I ever wanted to could I just come by the offices and say "hi" to Cryptic?! -

[ QUOTE ]
What exactly do you have against the Southeastern U.S.? You skipped D*C last year after hitting practically every Con in America and now you're skipping it AGAIN?
[/ QUOTE ]
They skipped it last year because Dragoncon wanted them to "jump through some hoops" that they weren't willing to. I'd assume that either the same situation still applies, or else because of that experience, they aren't even going to bother fooling with Dragoncon anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
What do you expect, it is the South-East
Where exactly is DragonCon, DC? DC isn't really the South; not that I actually have a clue where DragonCon is. -

And now! HTML version under documentation off the main CoH site!

Somebody should point out that you can keybind the Global Chat Channel menu thingy.
/bind <key> "menu$$contextmenu 2"
will allow you to open and close the window. -
Other worries include MOBs that get "stuck" when running away. Will the ST switch targets if a MOB runs into a corner? Or will the ST feel "gimped" because it's only focusing on a single minion? (for example)
-
Another problem is names with "_" in them cannot be invited to private channels. OR, I just couldn't do it. But that's ok, I had to re-log to get my "Invite" button anyways.

My INV scrapper and tanker are both about 200% more awesome post I-3. So maybe you could tone down the shrieking histrionics just a tad.

Meh... he was just the required Troll-per-Thread thing that all Forums have.

This technically isn't possible with our engine. It would have to be a huge animated texture refreshing at 20+ frames per second.
We did think of it, but the engineers' eyeballs popped out of their sockets when we suggested it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Haha! I thought of that and my eye balls almost popped out of my head (engineer here too).
Here's another thought, a flat texture that updates every 20 seconds or so. Perhaps with <heroname> Vs <heroname> scrawled on it.
[ QUOTE ]
How about a Huge Screen that Updated with a still shot of a random fight going on in the arena.. Have it update once every minute. or once every 30 seconds.

Sad thing is...people I don't know will get to see me get my [censored] kicked.
First I will come in all confident.
I will then get knocked down.
Finally, I will be laughed at by strangers. Then I will be overcome by shame.
Yeah, that is pretty much how it will happen.

Lol. I wonder if the opposing EMP can REZ you, so they can do it again... and again.. and...

Very cool. I want to watch my riteous teammates enact painful vengeance upon my unworthy foes for their cowardly underhanded killing of my virtuous self.

No that's faith in yourself right there... -
Awesome. That's all I gotta say about this. Awesome.

Statesmanis fluent in Greek and Lating (I think), and few other languages. He's one of those "smart kids" that every pretends not to like because they create inferiority complexes.
So yeah, this is good work here. -
[ QUOTE ]
There has been lots of talk of letting people remove leaders and such that are inactive. But if both the leaders and the Creator are inactive, then what do you do? I would like to see a vote system in place. Where the members of the SG are asked upon signing in to vote out an inactive member or vote in an active one. This can apply to everyone, not just leaders and creators. This way the members themselves can vote out inactive people or at least vote someone else into a leadership position. Set a percentage level for approval... say 51% of members approve then it takes effect. Prevents abuse because no one person can kick out a leader or creator, and no one person can assume control... without the approval of most of the active members.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd prefer a /petition system where a GM could have the finaly say based on inactivity. I'd hate to see a coup take place in an established SG. -
Something like the Permanent Teams I suggested before. Where a group of SG mates could for something like a Task Force, where they all share the same missions, clues, and contacts. With the difference that as long as at least one hero remains in the Permanent Team, people can quit and join, but once they do they lose access to their own missions, clues, etc... and instead use the shared pool.
Quiting the game, lagging out, etc... wouldn't matter as when the hero logged back in he/she'd retain their RSK/SK status as a member of the team.
In essence, this would a team to share the stories - instead of just one member getting the story and the rest only helping on missions. -
- Ability to demote yourself
- Ability to promote/demote heroes who are offline
- Ability to demote/remove leaders who have been offline for more than 30 days (could be 60, or 90)
- Ability to change SG colors and logo after SG creation
- Show if a SG-mate is currently teamed or not

So in short, could you do us a favor and differentiate between things that are guesses and things that are not when you're posting? I think that most of us like to know what you're working on, even without dates. Just let us know what is set and what isn't.
[/ QUOTE ]
No problem. From here on every single thing I mention is just a rough guess. My discussion of features and their potential release are, at best, internal goals.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe you should put that into your sig for new people and people who don't find this post because the Dev Digest is busted. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario"...
Some people would like to know what we're working on, even without dates.
Thus, I try to give general guestimates (though never exact dates). I like to communicate as much as I can with the forums about the status of different issues. Sometimes I do well, sometimes I don't - but I do try.
I NEVER give specific dates on anything because game development is a fickle thing. I do try to give at least an Issue #, because that provides a ballpark estimate for you guys.
Naturally, there are some who will criticize when we don't adhere to even that rough guess.

Blah... [censored] 'em I say. You guys do great. I do software for a living, and I know what you guys have to go through and you and your team kick butt. Ignore the whinny people and keep on truck'n.
