  1. I was leaning toward fire. Though i am considering body for conserve power and FA. Really depends mostly on how my endurance plays out once properly slotted, and getting some rares in the build.
  2. any advice on APP for the stone/ss?
  3. Thanks for the clarification. I did not realize rooted remained active when granite is on. I thought granite offered those protections. It makes sense that it does not of course. Yeah, I definitely need to get swift ASAP. Right now, it is looking as though the fitness pool will be 16, 18, and 20. Then rage and KO shortly after. I have to say, I can tell already this set will be a late bloomer.

I will be taking Hasten, just not until i can slot SO's and IO's. Downtime for that power is crappy with Training and dual origin enhances.

On Blueside, Brutes will be no more suited to really sub for a tank than a Scrapper, and a Scrapper will still generally be better than a Brute for pure damage. Brutes on blueside will become, musically speaking, the baritones, the [censored] child of the male vocal register, not quite able to hit the notes the tenors (Scrappers) can or provide the deep resonance and authority that the basses (Tanks) can.

On Redside, however, Tankers will be... kind of like little aggro holding gods. Frostweaver is totally right. I haven't played the thing, but I've read the wiki page, and I gotta think I'd rather have a fully IO'd Inv tank or Ice tank on an LRSF than a fully IO'd granite brute.

    [/ QUOTE ]

surprised you mentioned that brutes do less dmg than scrappers. While their base index is lower, they have an 800% dmg cap, and fury. In pve that is insane damage. Imagine the fire/kin's combined with brutes...

Some brute sets can hold their own, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
  5. I rolled a stone tank last night. I have never played one before, so its rather new to me. I have a decent idea of what to take and what to slot, but i have a couple questions i was hoping you tanks can help with.

Which armors does granite shut off? Also, does the auto resist power (stone skin or something like that) still work?

If i IO slot for +speed, how close to normal run/sprint speed can i get while running rooted or granite? I would combine with swift slotted as well.

Brimstone & Crystal armors - Do i skip these? or take them early on until i can get granite, then respec out?

Right now i am level 13. So i have a ways to go.

    Current build is

    rock armor,
    stone skin
    earth's embrace
    rooted
    Mudpots
    Jab
    Haymaker
    TP foe

Any advice on what to take on the next couple of levels to make the grind easier would be a help.

Thanks in advance for any help

  6. yeah, it is still an option, i went to the apple store online to check it out.

Did they ever update the drivers so imacs can support the 64 bit version of vista? Seems silly that you can use it on old mac book pros and older mac pro desktop. The hardware is definitely there.
  7. Ok cool, i didn't know they were doing that with the number pads. I was probably going to buy online, and use the student discount to get 100 bucks off the price. I think i'll pick up a multi-button mouse with scroll wheel in place of the mighty mouse.

Thanks for all the great feedback. You guys answered a lot of questions for me, which will make my decision of heck of a lot easier.
  8. Cool, that gives me a good idea then. There are a few other programs i like on windows, but i have a good idea where they stand. I think i'm going to go the 24" imac route. Seems like a nice fit for my house.

How's the mac keyboard layout and mouse situation? Is it worth looking for any 3rd party stuff for the gaming aspect?

I agree with Frost...while it can be done, running the Windows CoH client in VMWare/Parallels/Virtual Box isn't the best performance option.

I have my MacBook Bootcamp'ed and I run the Mac client when I'm connected up to a second display and want to "work" while having the game client up on my second display in windowed mode.

I re-boot into Windows when all I plan on doing is playing CoH.

I can state without hesitation that the best performance and most eye-candy is achieved when running the Windows client.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is probably what i will do. I really like OSX, but i wouldn't mind boot camping into windows to play windows supported games.

How much partition do you recommend. I plan on playing CO, and DC universe when they come out, as well as keeping the CoH client updated on the system. A safe guesstimate if you will.

  10. I absolutely understand for those who don't wish to install windows. After all I'm sure they bought a mac for good reason(s), one of which is so they can use OS X.

Now, what about mac client versus parallels or fusion to run windows for CoH. I had a friend that used to play on their Macbook using VM Fusion (before parallels became a bit more popular), and claimed it ran better than their PC even. I can attest it was at least decent, having teamed many times with her and don't recall any crashing, long load times etc.

Again, i know cost is even a bigger issue here, because you have to buy more 3rd party software.

EDIT - One of the reasons I am asking is because i am strongly considering buying an IMAC sometime this year.

Its been so long AF just might be completely grey now....whats up my man?
  14. Doesn't Coh work better with Mac's if it is run natively with boot camp, rather than through the mac client?

Of course i understand there is cost involved in purchasing a copy of windows...

Seems to me for people who really loving gaming, and wish to do so on a Mac, its worth it.

    Thoughts?
  15. Hey Blue, did you get swine flu?
  16. Finally, a good reason for a temp forum ban...

    [censored] YOU TALISKIN!!!!

    Good to see ya

    Reflection

    Reflection:

Well, I have not played City of * since Issue 12, until this past free week. A lot has changed. First, I would like to say that I was impressed with the Mission Architect and the level of customization. I made a mission or two, and had a good time. As far as the changes go in terms of the reward systems, new power sets, I saw some interesting stuff that I missed from I13 (PvE side anyway). However, I do find it very odd on how easy it is to level up characters in MA; not that I am complaining. I was always into farming maps, power-gaming/trying to get the most production out of my characters. The developers spent so much time curbing this type of play over the years by changing power sets, changing the rules, changing the missions etc that I find it fascinating the approach taken with MA. Is this intended? Or am I going to end up just being disappointed by more changes down the pipe. While MA is not all farming, I like that you can do it if you want to. Is this going to go away? I’m a long time player, I am thinking about renewing 1 account for a couple months to give it a try, and to be honest I’m going to want to do my share of farming when I need to because I don’t have the time I used to have to play. I guess I am trying to get a feel whether or not I’m wasting my time and money if I renew.

Making the bad guys in the missions…is truly awesome. That was probably my favorite part.

The Ps3 is a far superior machine than the 360. Their Network is greatly improving, and oh yeah....It's free.

First off: that's not a PS3 exclusive, the 360 can do HD just fine, too. Secondly: my TV is 480i, is less than 18 months old, and I have no desire to replace it. Why would I care, even if HD was a PS3-only feature?

    [ QUOTE ]
    BluRay

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not an advantage. If Blu-ray wins the format war, you know what? I bet, within six months of that event, Microsoft will have a Blu-Ray drive available for my 360.

Oh, and ... how's the anemic game library coming?

    [/ QUOTE ]

360 does HD, but PS3 does it better. 360 can only achieve 1080i, and for many ppl, that's worse than 720p. PS3 does 1080p. Have you even played a PS3? I bet you haven't, you would see a dramatic difference. Blu-Ray has already won the format War, and Microsoft hasn't made a decisions to create a Blue-Ray Add-On, they only had one spokesperson say that if the consumer had enough demand for it, they would consider it.

Oh, and yeah silver membership is free, but not if you want the good stuff. You're faith in Microsoft is kind of funny.

As for the library, who cares? This is about putting an MMO on a Console. If you have to pick one that is better, its definitely the PS3. I've had both consoles. Now that PS3 is affordable, watch the tides turn in the console war.

OK, sorry to ask this as I know it kinda a lame question, and sorry if it's been asked before, but there is no way I'm going to wade thru all the whining in this thread...

But when they wipe out character debt, will that debt be applied towards the debt badges (as if you worked it off), or will it simply disappear?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Don't feel bad about not wading through the thread, because I'm pretty sure that question hasn't been answered yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

no it hasnt. But even if it doesnt, it cant really hurt to try. If you want you debt back, its pretty easy to rack it up
  21. i hope the auroborus is the first step to hero/villain cross over. It would make sense for level 50 Characters (or maybe not just but its the only way i can think that doesnt wack out the already wacked out epics) to be able to use the system to experience content on the other side.

posted it in suggestions and ideas.
  22. FAQ Sheet from Cryptic

"FAQ about the City of Heroes and City of Villains sale
What you need to know about the sale of City of Heroes and City of Villains and the future of Cryptic Studios.

How did Cryptic Studios arrive at the decision to sell City of Heroes and City of Villains to NCsoft?

When we considered the future of CoH/CoV and the future of Cryptic Studios, we had a difficult decision to make. We've invested a lot of time, effort, talent and passion into the games, and we care about them. But we've got a lot of other ideas we're excited about too.

Ultimately, we decided that selling to NCsoft was the best and right thing to do for the CoH community. CoH/CoV will be in good hands at NCsoft, and the transition will be as seamless as possible. With this move, we now have complete creative freedom and the resources we need to develop new games.

How will Cryptic be involved with CoH in the future?

Cryptic will work closely with the team at NCsoft to create a smooth transition and gameplay will not be affected. At the end of the transition all ongoing activities will be managed by NCsoft.

What will happen to my City of Heroes account?

You should see no change at all to your CoH account. Future service will be completely under NCsoft's umbrella and customers should contact them for product support and service by phone.

You can contact NCsoft at the NCsoft support center, or by phone at (512) 225-6359 (billing and technical support issues only).

Who will be responsible for future development on City of Heroes and City of Villains?

CoH/CoV has a great live team that has set a high standard for development and updates, and NCsoft would like all of them to continue working on the project. Every member of the team has been offered employment at NCsoft. The future is in the same hands that led the game to where it is today.

Cryptic would not have entered into this agreement without ensuring the well-being of the CoH/CoV team. It will be hard to lose part of the Cryptic family, but with NCsoft's support the team will continue to add loads of new content and features to CoH/CoV.

    What's next for Cryptic Studios

Cryptic is developing new titles and new IPs, as well as expanding its business interests. We have a talented team of game developers and technicians, and a large part of our motivatation for this move was to free up resources for our future projects. With these new projects we will challenge ourselves to make even better and more immersive MMO games. Stay tuned!"
  23. Just went to cryptics website....ill copy and paste this tidbit

"Cryptic Studios™ announced today that the development house has sold its intellectual and proprietary rights to both the City of Heroes® and City of Villains® franchises to publisher NCsoft. As part of the agreement, NCsoft is licensing Cryptic's engine technologies for use with future games.

"City of Heroes and City of Villains players should be assured that Cryptic Studios will be working closely with NCsoft to ensure a smooth, seamless transition," said Michael Lewis, president and co-founder of Cryptic Studios. "City of Heroes was Cryptic's flagship product and we are proud of this title and the many millions of characters that have entertained over a million people worldwide. The decision to sell the franchise allows us to focus resources on our soon to be announced first-party projects."
