Quote:Yes, you're absolutely correct. It's less time spent for us.I participated in last weeks Tweet Code Thursday and I thought that the way it was initiated was fair (you have 5 minutes to Retweet this post and we will send you the code) but this week due to "time issues" and "twitter restrictions" they are just making it "simple"...???...For whom? not for us the customer base but quite frankly for themselves.
Last week we had to invest two people for an entire day and a second person for another entire day to sending out codes via PM, and even then we ran into technical/API limitations.
It is *not* a wise investment of my teams time to spend an entire day on another project and cause other aspects of the Community to suffer as a result. At the same time, when faced with the option of do something or do nothing, I choose to do something. I respect those of you who disagree and choose not to participate. Please know that your concerns have been heard. This is simply the best possible option that we have currently available.
On a similar note, Hit Streak and I have invested a rather large amount of time in this conversation. While I appreciate everyone's concern, this is one of those decisions that I have to make that won't make everyone happy. I apologize if you're one of those people. For now, this is how we're going to operate Tweet Code Thursday, until we have a better solution. -
Quote:FWIW, this whole thing is giving us ammunition.I'll pass.
I get that what you did last week just isn't sustainable. I'm not some villainous ogre that wants you all manually sending codes until your hands bleed and Twitter itself cries uncle (I'm not black-hearted enough for marketing, it seems). Your time is more valuable than that.
I appreciate that you're ramping things up to try to get even more codes out there, but code rushes just aren't fun. You can dress them up, put a goofy hat on them, make more codes or whatever and I'll still pass.
You guys went all out last week and I am appreciative. It's really disappointing that your best intentions are continually hampered by lack of support on the technical side of things. I hope this entire conversation can serve as ammunition for you in going back to the higher ups and petitioning for better support for your endeavors.
Showing that we can grow Twitter rapidly and raise our engagement rate gives us ammo.
Showing that we had to invest an inordinate amount of time in something gives us ammo.
Showing that we need something more optimal gives us ammo.
At the end of the day, we're not going to stop working to grow our different Social Media Platforms with the tools we have available, but we're going to keep on asking for better tools to continue doing so. -
As Aggelakis stated, the cookie is set to expire after 8 hours.
This decision was made by the NCsoft web security admins. -

Interesting...
I wonder if they know that Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street isn't a Community Manager. -
As has been covered previously in this thread, we don't currently have this capability.

Quote:Since you're the only one who has the code, you can always wait for the Account Center to be working properly again .Zwillinger, there is one other potential problem springing up here that you NEED to be aware of:
Website access to Master Account broken.
I cannot get into the account via the website, only in-game.
I know, it's not RIGHT NAU, but the code won't expire anytime soon .
(Re: the Account Center, we still have no ETA on the login working again.) -
Quote:Look at it this way...I appreciate that, Snow Globe, but if they specify in advance, it would make life a lot easier.
Or are they only going to send out US one and make the EU players jump through the hoops to get it changed? A lot of EU players already feel like we get worse treatment already (Not me, I hasten to add), this won't make things any better
Now you have an extra code to give to one of your Yank friends . -
A couple of notes:
- Make sure you're retweeting the message, not just sending us a reply.
- We've got a solution to see what retweets were sent in chronological order, starting with when we sent the first message and when we sent the "cutoff" message.
- If you missed out because you were set to private or didn't have us followed or for whatever reason, never fear, we're going to be doing this again today, soon™.
- We have to send all of these codes manually and it takes Hit Streak and I time to slog through all of the retweets, so please be patient.
Thanks! -
If you're an EU player who received a code, make sure you send a PM to Hit Streak or myself with the code you received (for verification) and we'll replace it with an EU code.

Quote:I *just* finished saying I would suggest it in a product management meeting a few posts back. I'm pretty sure it will have buy in once some time has passed for exclusivity purposes.I'm not angry. I'm irritated. If I was angry, my account would be suspended and I'd just move on.
That's not what I asked and you know it Andy. You've been acting as if you're somehow stunned or caught off guard at the vehemence of the response here.
And the fact that you're running a promotion isn't the reason people are tearing you a new one over this.
But hey, if Paragon's going to pass up a chance to monetize content, that's on you guys. Never mind that it was the point of putting in a cash store in the first place.
You are so buying me a beer next weekend. -
Quote:I am going to be very clear about something, and it's going to make some of you angry. I hope that you will all take it in a reasonable and rational manner. That and you've ensured that people have the hair lodged up their *AHEM* quite firmly.
People here ARE cognizant of the difference between "want to" and "can do".
What's got people up in arms is this relapse into lack of foresight that we had thought Paragon had freed itself of months ago.
Did you HONESTLY think that people were NOT going to be getting out pitchforks and torches when you announced something like this? Especially when they'd made it QUITE clear on MULTIPLE occasions that this kind of thing is patently NOT okay?
We are not going to ask permission each and every time we want to run a promotion. We are going to do things that some people don't like. You are invited to voice your displeasure, in a rational and constructive manner, should this occur. We will do what we can to make a promotion appealing to as many people as we possibly can. At the end of the day though, we will disappoint someone. Years of running contests and promotions have shown me that this will happen, no matter what you do. -

Quote:I'm probably miscommunicating...No, see, you're doing it again. I didn't say anything about not liking "social media in general." In fact, I said just the opposite.
In fact, I'm looking at my Twitter feed right now, and a local concert venue just tweeted about how the first person to tweet them back with the answer to a trivia question wins FREE TICKETS to tonight's show! Know why I'm not upset with them over that? Because if I want to go to that show, but I don't win those tickets, I'll have had the opportunity to get them in a way that didn't involve blind luck in direct competition with hundreds or thousands of other people. I could just, you know, buy them.
"Hey, follow us on Twitter and you could win this cool thing for free! Or you could just go to the Paragon Market and buy it."
There's your solution. Twitter account legitimized, man-hours allocated, player base not alienated.
We want to be able to do something like this. The *current* solution we have is what isn't ideal, but it's what we have to work with. -
EK,
We've been giving these codes away in game, we're planning on giving them away over Twitter and we're going to be giving some away at the upcoming CapeCon. While it's not super easy to get this particular item, we're doing what we currently are able to do to share it more broadly.
I grok what you're saying. I really understand it and I can empathize with what you're saying. You feel as though because we utilize costume-type stuff as promotional material that your playstyle is being singled out. I get that.
I can't promise you that you'll be able to buy it in the Paragon Market in a few months because that decision hasn't been made yet. I can say I'll suggest it in one of our weekly product management meetings. -
Snow, I do appreciate what you're trying to do here, really I do, but the reality is that would probably take months to get pushed through the Web team. Ideally, we would have a web developer here, at Paragon, that could just fire things like this out the door.
We don't.
Trust me when I tell you that most of the proposed solutions you are all pitching is something that we've either thought of or considered. We WANT generic coupon codes. We WANT to be able to generate a Social Media app at the drop of a hat. Sometimes these things just take time to accomplish.
Thanks to everyone for your feedback on this matter. -
Quote:Nope, that functionality is not currently available, but it is something we've requested.Speaking of resources: would it be possible to publish a code that works for any number of people and then say manually enable it and disable it?
Then you could say "Everyone who grabs a code in the next hour gets a goodie." And your whole staff isn't monopolized, just one person twice in a one hour period. Add on whatever preconditions you can reasonably service. Retweet us, fill out a questionnaire, link us, like us, wash Zwill's car, etc.
Just kinda guessing here but that sounds like something that might be available without having to ask engineering (or a third party). -
There's other things you're not accounting for such as development time, time from PlayNC, time to put it in the Market...
Please never assume that something can *just be done*.
And the resources in question is the Community Team. We do A LOT of things manually, because we don't want to cut into development time for our requests. Time that could be spent working on new content like powersets or new missions or spent coding QOL improvements. This time has to come from somewhere, and I would rather they do something like coding a UI upgrade than building a Facebook or Twitter interface. -
Quote:Not quite sure where I said anyone was wrong for disliking it...I said I understand why some folks dislike Social Media in general. I absolutely understand what they don't like about it, and admitted that it wasn't an ideal situation further up the thread.... You're getting so caught up in telling people they're wrong for not liking this promotion that you're not even paying attention to what they don't like about it. Nobody (or almost nobody) objects to Paragon Studios using Twitter. They object to the way Paragon Studios is using Twitter...
Disliking it or not though, we're doing what we can with the resources we have available to us. Is it ideal? Nope.
FWIW, we're discussing different ways we can promote it that don't involve a mad dash. That *will not* be the case for this week though as it basically requires me scheduling someone's entire day dedicated to this project as opposed to a few minutes each hour. -
