Quote:I also think it depends on the person. GP like gaming for the exact same reason I do. We are both stay at home moms with a brood of children. It's cheaper and easier just to stay home and meet ppl this way. I also have an addictive nature by default. (I can thank my mom, dad, and grandfather for that) But for some reason, this *addiction* that I have for games is safer than anything else I could and have been addicted to. But I took care of it LIKE A BOSS! It's like anything else, you have to not let it overrule you.I think the point of the study is more about how much interacting "gamers" (and by extension other people that spend a lot of time in front of a computer) miss out on, and that long-term periods of isolation could be harmful (like the analogy of eating sugar all the time. It fills you up for a while, but the long term effects aren't good.). I disagree with the premise that there's a large, harmful effect, but I think there is a difference in the type of social interactions, and balance is needed.
I'd heard some relationships were destroyed because of MMO's but like someone posted how are we to really know the underlying reasons for said breakup? I could say Mo doesn't love me anymore because he's ALWAYS on CoH PvPing but I'd know it's bogus. There's never just one single reason and where the other reason may not be good enough the "gaming" reason seems to be easier to swollow for the person involved and garner sympathy from his/her friends. -
ROFLMAO Nice one, Amy. It's the card that keeps on giving! And thank you, Llew and Amily.

After reading Amy's post I have to question the validity of this test they were talking about. How come it's one extreme or another? What about the vast majority of us who are, what Amy calls, Dedicated Gamers? What are we? A precursor to the either/or categories? Nay, I believe we are a demographic unto ourselves.
We not only game for about 2 hrs a day...we sometimes game more... or less.. depending upon our daily activities. (or kid agro :/ )
Like I said before, I truly value the friendships I've made here and I agree that these friendships might never have been possible in the real world due to social differences, geographical locations, or other factors.
The "expert" in this article needs to be doing a little more research... preferable in a different field.... like a behavioral study of the flat worm. -
I recently read an article where the subject goes through "binges" when he games. He has also almost no social life outside the game and he lost his GF due to that ever popular MMO we all know and love/hate.
My question is this: What do you consider yourself?
According to the experts we (gamers) cannot have an active social life because we do not "physically" interact with others in our games.
"We're social animals - and for our physiological, as well as psychological, well being, we require something called limbic resonance," she says. "This is the stimulation of the limbic part of the brain when two people have a relationship. ... The trouble is limbic resonance only seems to happen effectively when we're face to face - when we can see and hear and touch each other. ... When people go online to try to meet their social needs, it's analogous to being a hungry person who eats sugar. They will, in the end, starve."
Medical jargon aside, what do you think?
IMO I value the friends I've made on this game as well as others. I still am in contact with ppl outside the game that I've met IN GAME. Does the same hold true with other areas of internet social gathering? Like Facebook where our lives become blurbs in our status'?
Feel free to discuss. -
I think my favorite is Sister Psyche. I love taking down all those Freakshow.
My second favorite would be Synapse. It's a lot of fun and I enjoy the arc itself.
My 3rd are all the TF's you get at lvl 50. They are harder and you have to really think about your toon's build in order to get what you want accomplished. Everything up until now had been practice >.< -
-
And remember, if you are at all interested in leading a team please feel free to let me know beforehand so we may discuss the in's and out's of the team you wish to lead.
-
Thanks again to my wonderful Team Leads for making it a seamless and fast raid. @Cherry Cupcakes for her Hami Taunt, @Celestial Lord for Yellow Spike, @Fanged Knight for Yellow Taunt, @Kahlan and @Milliondollar for Blue Assault and @Cobalt Azurean for Green Assault.
Thanks to Llew and his crew for bringing the much needed emps and pains at the very last minute so that helped assure the raid's success.
Next Week is Blue Side Hami and I look forward to more Jello and Shards.
I'm thinking of having a theme next week and since it's Blue Side seems only fitting the first Theme is Hamikini. So grab your bikini's and your board shorts and slap on some glasses and oil... time to roll in the Jello. -
Red Side Raid tonight! See you all there!
-
Happy Birthday, sweetie! Wub you mucho!!!

Well it could be worth a try to say the lease. Hami-kini's are fun and I've never done a MS kini raid.
And no, Amy, that means you HAVE to wear clothes, you streaker, you. -
The Champion Server will miss you, of that I'm sure. I've loved having you involved with our events as everyone else has. This years Player Auction will be fun, but not the same. Perhaps Mod05 would be willing to take your stead. *rubs hands together gleefully*
Please know that you will be missed but NEVER forgotten on our boards. The Champion Official Pyramid thread was the best coup de grace if I ever saw one. Albeit extremely funny.
Good luck on your future endeavors and remember we will always leave a light on for you on Champion!! -
We rule! Simple as that. Stick around, give it some time, then make your decision based on what you have learned and what others have told you. -
Thank you CL for taking the reigns for me this evening even though I'm such a dork and could not find a way to let ppl know I was not home. Something came up last minute and I kinda forgot to let everyone know I would not be able to do it.
Sometimes crap happens.
But I'll be back and ready to go next Wednesday with the Red Side Raid -
HA When we 1st moved to Champion I wanted to make Champion Alliance. Had seemed only fitting it being Champion Server. But seeing how it was taken I kept Victory Alliance as a symbol of how much we'd accomplished.
-
It's loverly to see how many of us are so invested in our server. We all love this game to some degree or another and it goes to show how much time and effort we invest in this thread to show the OP just exactly what we mean.
Then again there are those who are like this:
Quote:And therefore should either A. MTOB or B. be ignored altogether when they state their "impressions" about a server they no longer reside on.P.S. I did leave Champion
Have a wonderful day! And see everyone else in game ON THE CHAMPION SERVER! -

Quote:I have to agree here. They may not be in the zone you are in. And with the implementation of incarnates, my global list is full of ppl on their 50's so there is a very real chance they will not be in Praetoria. Are you on any global channels? Those help, plenty of people to play with there.
There is a list of global chat channels that you can peruse at your leisure. BMT of Champion and Champions United are the most likely candidates for all your teaming woes. A few SGs have chat channels as well that are open for joining iirc.
Join some and I'm sure you'll reevaluate just how much the server pop has dropped. It's never been more full.
LOVE YOU CHAMPS!
