I personally have found scaling down helps a lot.

One big tip I have, is sharpening the image a little before actually scaling it. It sort of helps with the fuzzing effect, though not all of the time. I tend to save at multiple stages once I get the crop I want.

I use so many, I can't even keep the numbers straight on which I have used.

I do use Supernatural 1 and 2 on occasion, though. And Face 2 and 4, iirc.

I don't see what's so bad about that. I think it's very well done, honestly. Especially given the costume creator resources in that direction.
