1. Don't you all mean: Ghost Window?

That's how she is referred to in a Leery mission at the opening window (or widow?) when you enter the mission.

She's a spiritual defenestrator! Or maybe just a flattened crystal ball. Silver her backside and she'll be the one who answers to "Mirror, mirror on the walll..."
  2. At level 14, I got the Pirate Badge (50 Trap-Kills). I then proceeded to do Veluta's two arcs (two souvenirs, no badges). An Elite Boss at the end of both.

I did this with my Ironman (see below).
  3. Better video!

Go to GameTrailers for the hi-res version that you don't have to pay for (the other site only offers low-res for free).

The MM is definitely the green skinned guy with the red hat (and carrying dual guns). The other guy with the spikey hair with the big ol handgun is unknown.
  4. No, no ETA for I7 going live or even going on test. All we have is uncommitted ballpark estimates from various employees which can not be counted on for being accurate. Originally, one such ballpark had I7 hitting Test in February.

    --

Add to the confusion: Freedom Phalanx v. Freedom Corp v. Hero Corp. Discuss.

    --

Yes, that is War Witch. As was already mentioned in this thread. War Witch the developer, who plays with War Witch the character, is part of the in-house pre-Test testing.

    There is no point here.

You guys... did you know on one of the VERY first Snake Missions, the open one where you save all those Arachnos Lt's. and they help you fight? Well... you CAN click on the Flying Arachnos Ship, and it has info and everything. It was labelled as not a Giant Monster but as a "Vehicle" The info stated "This is an Arachnos Assault Ship, if you see one of these... run."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Compare that to the I7 Feature Description of Grandville:

    [ QUOTE ]
Passing through the streets of Grandville it is possible to catch an occasional glimpse into the Gutters below. Through imperfect junctions, missing grates, and open sewage pits, a vertigo-inducing drop plunges into the darkness of the Gutter where the dredges of Grandville lurk. Unable to effectively control the creatures hidden here, Recluse has an Arachnos Flier patrol the area, its only goal to annihilate all living things in its path.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My money is on flyers as wandering damage. Watch out! Death from above!
  6. The Thug set looks like it breaks down to:

1st Tier: Possibly gun blappers. Hellion looking. Random colored pants and vests over an Anarchy T-shirt. Third one has a cross chest strap indicating a specialist role (like the medic in the merc set). They wear bandana masks, sunglasses, and black do-rag skull cap.

2nd Tier: Dual-gunslinging blasters. The 'Black Bart' look. Trenchcoat, utility belt, tie with shirt, bandana masks and sunglasses (dark colors - red, black, dark brown). No hat.

3rd Tier: Huge-build (presumed tanker). Tortoise shell motorcycle helmet, wrapped chain. Shown using a thunderclap power.

If I'm guessing correctly which one is the MM, he's carrying a BA handgun. The B stands for Big.

I am putting the requirements for Contacts - and their location - in the Prima Guide...

but here was our intent with these Contacts - reward Exploration. Reward people who poke around to find new things. Now, the down side is that once found, these Contacts don't inform the player about what it takes to unlock them.

I finally got the Bling badge at lvl 30. Went to talk to Doc Buzzsaw just to see what she would say.

Surprise surprise! She granted me missions (collect 5 parts).

Guess lvl 29 is not the cap for her after all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are her missions capped at 29, 30, going up to 31? The Devs may have made a stealth patch to her because of our complaints that she's too easily outleveled by the time one gets bling. But if we can do her missions at higher levels, are here missions scaling up, too?
  9. So, Placate does a 'placate' and a 'hide-like set-up for a critical strke.' So, maybe a better name for this one-two power would be:

    Placate Strike
    Placate Set-up
    Placate Stance
    Peek & Boo!
    Smoke and Smearer
    Hide & Wreak
    Your Shoes Are Untied!
Hey, What's This on Your Tie?
  10. I kept track of my praetorian kills by sending myself an ingame email with the name of the praetorian in the header.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Note that I'm one of the people who has talked about how to identify when the Croatoa war is on, and what to do then to bring out Jack & Eotchi. I think that the key difference here is that there is still a major element that is totally out of the control of the players. If the War has not started, there is nothing that the players can do to force it to start. It's only once the war starts that the players can move things along. So the combo of Jack & Eotchi cannot be summoned at will by the players. IMHO, this fact keeps them out of being on any list of "Player Summonable" giant monsters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Exactly.

If anyone says that the Croatoa monster are triggerable, then I challenge them to trigger them twice in a row. After killing the two giants, they will wind up killing spawns for hours with nothing to show for it. None of those who claimed that the Giants are triggerable have done it twice in a row.

Been there. Done that. Not triggerable.

As for Deathsurge, I summoned him three times in a row. It's 120 kills.

As for Ghost of Scrapyard, I became a scrapyarder serial killer. After a boatload of kills, he spawned. "Great," I though, "I'll spawn him again right after he's dead." Kill GoS. Went around murdering scrapyarders. I killed 150 and gave up and thought that perhaps he's not triggerable after all. Then someone posted in another thread that it was 180 kills that spawned him. I gave up too soon. Still haven't tested it. Considering how often scrapyarders die in fights with Cage Consortium and how often players are killing scrapyarders, it's no wonder GoS keeps respawning quickly.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Ok, a friend of mine and I did both of the Lunata arcs the other day at level 13 with only the first badge. So either we lucked out a whole lot, or it is fixed now. If you want a screenie of both the souveniers let me know, but other people may want to try now (and no, I have no clue what the level limit on the second arc is, though I would assume the same as the first one since the enemies were the same level.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Excellent. Now if we can have a few more comfirmations that:

    1. Veluta is a 10-14 contact
    2. requiring only the Pirate badge to unlock
    3. and that she gives you two story arcs;

then this will be a settled matter.
  13. From this post:

    [ QUOTE ]
Veluta Lunata requiring the first ghost-hunting badge will not change, but the number of ghosts needed for that first badge will.

Arbiter Leery is a special case, since the "I have the Respec and have not used it" and "I have used this Respec" badges are actually DIFFERENT badges (we take one away and give the other). A contact can only have one badge that 'unlocks' them, and in this case we needed 2.

The original way was the "unused Respec" badge unlocked him. This sucked because once you used your Respec you couldn't get the contact anymore. This was changed to the "used Respec" badge, since now if you used your Respec you could get the contact, and if you hadn't used your Respec, you could still get the contact, by using your respec. It was less gating this way, but thats not to say any less irritating. It's simply a limit of the way the contacts work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, we figured out the Leery thing already. At least this is the final word that this is not a bug, though it's not their ideal solution.

There are more missions from Leery after the first arc, Indigo's Hair, that form the second arc, Tears of the Spirit.

What Posi had to say about Veluta cleared up nothing.

    Pantsless Hero

For caucasian heroes, chose the white tights and some sort of high boots/leggings. Being under the tunics' skirt, it will give the impression of the legs being in the shade of the skirt, and thus washed out in color. Or, change your skin color to a more golden color, their is a tights color that matches. You'll look like a raver with a gold body wash.

  15. Since this thread has become long and unwieldy, especially with people reading the opening page and taking information from there that has since been corrected later in the thread, I started a new thread with all the updated info. Of course, with Veluta still being buggy, even that needs testing. Please see Hermod's Guide to Unlockable Contacts. I6, ver 2.0.

    Thanks.

  17. Short list of colors that work well both on the CoH an CoV skin.

While it's nice to have a comprehensive list of possible colors, it is not nice, in my opinion, to use all of them on the forums. One thing to keep in mind is that while some colors look good in the villain forums against the dark maroon background, they don't look good on the heroes forum against the blue background, and vice versa.

I used the following criteria to whittle down the colors:

    1. Nix the ones too hard to read, either because the text was too light or too close in color.
    2. Nix the ones with high color contrast: Certain colors 'swim' against the background of other colors. Usually intense hues opposite each other on the color wheel.
    3. When two usuable colors were virtually identical to each other, I nixed the one that had the longer or odder name in favor of the one with the shorter, more common name.
    4. While some colors were readable when bolded, they weren't so much when in normal font. I kept only the ones that were still readable in normal font.
    5. While some of the ones remaining still don't look that good, I wound up keeping them because they represent the last of their color palette. Needless to say, keeping a dark maroon and blue background in consideration, a lot of the blues and reds got cut. I tried to save some that were still passable.

Thanks to Golden Ace for the original list.

  18. Here is a compiled update from the original thread. Keep in mind:

+The information on Veluta is incomplete. Veluta has been 'fixed', but looks like it may be broke in a different way now.

+Information about AVs and Elite Bosses may be out of date with the recent patch that downgrades AVs for solo players and small teams, depending on the difficulty level.

+Updates, corrected information, and debugging are welcome!

  19. This seems like a good place to put this mini-guide on travel powers with a Master Mind in mind. Useful information for everyone, especially using Group Fly and Group TP with a team (and not necessarily your pets).

    Speed

Hasten is an incredible help to MMs for all the long recharge powers of the primary and secondary sets. Even if it's not perma anymore, being on 80% of the time is a big help, for it will be on during some part of the recharge cycle of long charge powers.

Superspeed's lack of verticalness is not that big a deal in CoV. There is nothing comparable to the Hollows or Faultline. Any time it takes detouring around a vertical obstacle is made up for in speed. You easily outdistance your minions so quickly that they keep auto-tp'ing to you when you get out of range. Besides, SS provides Stealth for you. Coupled with Dark's Nightfall, you're practically invisible. This combo enables a MM to run to the end of a mission, summon there, and complete it quickly (for all those Newspaper schemes.) Unfortunately, this stealth doesn't translate to PvP. And the lack of vertical is also very bad for PvP. If you take SS, you should augment it with TP Foe for PvP.

    Teleport

TP Foe: If you're doing PvP, you need TP Foe anyway; for there is no way to give your pets a travel power that will keep up with a fleeing player (not even Group TP or Group Fly can do that for you). TP Foe is the best pull power for a MM (PvP and PvE) if you keep these rules in mind: Slot it for ACC and RANGE; In PvE use TP Foe at the limit of its range and out of the line of sight of the other mobs. TP Foe usually fails to pull safely in team play because the team insists on being too close to the mobs and in their line of sight. Do not let their stupidity lead you to think that TP Foe is not a good pull power. TP Foe is also essential for Dark which needs to pull a mob close to use as a target for heal or rezzes.

Recall Friend: While this may help a MM to retrieve a lost pet, it's a pain in the butt because if one pet is lost, all or most of them are lost, too. And using this power six times in a row is painful. It's just as easy to dismiss and resummon (you can dismiss just that one lost minion by right clicking on it in the pet window), or, move to the 270 limit and have them auto-tp to you. This is a handy power for team play, especially if you have rez powers.

Teleport: Fastest travel power. Takes time to get used to. Best defense against immobs and slows in battles (other than complete immunity, for which there aren't a lot of against slow). Great complement to SSpeed (two travel powers! yes, I always have more than one travel power.) Two TPs is usually far enough to trigger the pets' auto-tp (270 yds). Also, Hover is a nice complement for TP since you can just hang in air for as long as you want, giving TP almost complete 3D functionality.

Group TP: Grrrr... almost broke, but could be so useful. The big problem for MMs is that pets don't auto-hover like teammates do -- they immediatly drop and miss the next Group TP. Also, its range is much shorter than TP and it uses lots and lots more END than TP (or Group Fly, for that matter). Meaning, if you try to use this as a travel power, you will only get 1/4 the distance you would with TP before running out of END. Also, unlike Recall Friend, your teammates will not get a prompt if they want to be TP'd with you... they're forced to go where you go. This all being said, I've seen Group TP used very effectively in PvP in keeping a team together. The whole team gets GTP'd on top of a foe. When the foe tries to flee, you then use TP Foe to bring them back... a double whammy of enforced engagement from just you. If other teammates have TP Foe, then that foe is never getting away. GTP is a great panic button if the whole team is getting wiped or close to it. If you were thinking about skipping TP and just getting GTP to use as your main travel power... think again... it's too gimped to work for you that way.

    Fly

Air Superiority: Great for low level MMs who wade into the fray (especially Dark who runs in to heal). Most bosses that are tanks are so susceptible to this. Nice to see a squishie stand toe to toe with a +2 Freakshow Tank Boss. Can almost keep a foe chain knockeddown. Great for pushing flyers into Tar Patch or Caltrops.

Hover: Good for an MM to stay out of the fray while directing minions in PvE. In PvP, it's a death sentence (look at me! and I'm not going anywhere fast!). Hover works well with TP making it almost as functionally 3D as Fly, but much, much faster.

Fly: Slow but the most complete 3D travel power. Like Hover, you'll be able to stay out of the fray while directing minions. And since some MMs have no attacks of their own, no worries about suppression. In PvP, fly only helps stay away from melee characters. You'll be too slow to fly away from ranged attacks.

Group Fly: We should all know this by heart; let's all join in on the problems: 1. Teammates and pets don't fly as fast as you and drop out of the flying bubble; 2. Speed Enhancements only speed up you, not your treammates and pets, and thus here is a case where an enhancement makes a power worse; 3. Teammates don't get a choice to toggle off fly... you force them to fly whether they want to or not (and suffer the -20% ACC); 4. Activation time is very long; GF will not save you or your teammates or your pets from an unexpected fall. Suprisingly, GF doesn't take a huge END hit like Group TP does. In some maps and against some foes, GF does come in handy. In PvP, GF does come in handy for those players that fly above you just out of range (but that's not a smart tactic on their part since they're only taking advantage of players who've wandered into PvP without taking the necessary powers to survive PvP). Group Fly or, better yet, TP Foe, will teach them not to do that to you. However, when they really do fly away, Group Fly isn't going to help you since your pets will lag behind. TP Foe for the win.

    Jump

Combat Jumping gives defense bonus and resists immobilizations.

    Acrobatics resists knockbacks and holds.

These two extras of the Jump Pool are almost completely unnecessary for PvE because a MM is always using the pets to absorb attacks. However, if your secondary set does not provide protection, then these two powers are very helpful in PvE where all your enemies are ignoring your pets and targeting you. However, extra toggles mean extra END drain. I've had to put two EndRed in every toggle power, and three in Acrobatics (which is an extra hog). I don't use Stamina.

Superjump: One of the most fun travel powers. And if you have lag, one of the most frustrating since rubberbanding makes you miss your marks, which can be dangerous as well as just plain annoying. In two jumps, a MM has gone far enough to trigger the auto-tp of the minions. A good power for PvP since it's almost as fast a SS and has 3D functionality and abiltity to turn in mid-air and curve around buildings. However, it won't let you get to a foe 'hiding' in flight at the outdoor glass ceiling. Not even TP Foe can help you there. Only Group Fly for an MM can ferret out those cowards.

    Badge Questions

Question: Does the system keep track of rezzes? If yes, what's the possibility of a rez bage (similar to the heal badges)? For Dark Defenders with their group rez, you'll need a 100 Rez badge and a 1,000 Rez badge.

Arbiter Leery is fixed on Test. I used both respecs. He won't talk to me on Live, but he will give me missions on Test. This is not documented in the patch notes for Test.

And now someone has said that Leery won't talk to you if you haven't used a respec... <rolls eyes>

Can someone who has done the respec trial (or both) and has not used up a respec badge test this on the Test Server? Remember, you still have to be 35+.

    Badge Questions

Q1. What's the status of Rocketman? Reports are that Rocketman Badge is bugged. The badge says launch the missile in Warburg 5 times. Reports are that it has to be 10 times and that zoning (but not logging) resets the counter. Other reports are that it has to be the same type of rocket (chem, bio, or nuke) 10 times. What's the scoop?

    This is a multi-part question:

Q2.a. What's the possibility of having badge placeholders for *all* badges, even if they're marked with "???"? This way, we know what badges are still yet to be found?

Q2.b. What's the possibility of having not only placeholders for all "kill X number of Y" badges, but having them labeled and get rid of that "???"?

Q2.c. What's the possibiltiy of having placeholders for exploration badges with progress bars and giving us the text of the plaques to read when we're done (like all the souvenir texts)?

Q3. You seem to know that some badges are indeed bugged. Why isn't that info listed in "known issues" on the website or forums? (As well as all the other known bugs... but that's not a badge related question.)

Q4. Could you (or would you) ever create a mission with Contaminated (a portal mission to an alternate earth, perhaps at level 50) or a mission in the jail (a mission to quell a riot and/or save an unjustly condemned person at level 50, e.g.) so that the Isolator and Jailbird badges can be obtained?

Q5. Since it's very, very easy to outlevel Doc Buzzsaw before you get the Bling badge, would you consider switching Doc's badge requirement (like you did for Tarixus?).

Q6. Since hunting 200 Marcone Bosses is an exceptionally tedious task (we certainly do not have a lot of Marcone missions, and so, we have to street hunt for this elusive creature), would you consider bumping this down to 100 or 50? Or at least give us some Schemes that are loaded with Marcone Bosses that we could farm?

  24. Not only good info but very well done!

It'd be nice if we had access to all the power icons to use as macro buttons. Even nicer if we could edit them and make our own customized icons for macros.

Shouldn't the tiltle say "where are cuppa or states and..." ?

Just a question, I'd like to improve my english skillz.

The original title is correct. And so are you.

The rule by strict prescriptivist grammarians used to be that in the case of 'or', the verb matches the noun closest to it.

The mittens or hat is in the dog's mouth. <singular 'hat' matches singular 'is'>

The hat or mittens are in the dog's mouth. <plural 'mittens' match plural 'are'>

And so, since 'cuppa' is nearest the verb and separated from the other predicates by the conjunction 'or', then the singular verb is technically correct.

However, modern grammarians who are tending toward the descriptionist camp point out that in popular usage, it's the context that count, especially considering if the speaker means the exclusive 'or' (only one or the other) or the inclusive 'or' (either one, possibly both).

Bob or Joe are going to get blasted by the boss for their mistakes when she can finally get a hold of one of them. <inclusive or -- either or both of them, thus plural>

Bob or Joe is going to get the last cupcake. <exclusive or--only one of them, thus singular>
