Quote:I hadn't considered that you could just shake things up again in the second round. I guess if others support it, it's something I'd like to see too.Since I am taking over I would like to get everyone's feeling about keeping the groups. IE, keeping animation together all the way to final four or after the prelims here I toss it all in the blender and do my damnest to make sure no one has their picks go against each other.
edit also my votes do not count unless there is a tie.
If not, I'll survive. Just consider my previous post as suggestions for the next draft. -
I don't exactly like this genre split thing.
Some shows are shoehorned in (Freaks and Geeks) and some belong in other categories but were moved for space (Archer). In my mind, that latter problem would've completely outweighed any benefits of this idea. If the field splits evenly into four categories, fine. If it doesn't, who decides what stays in the category and what gets pushed? For the sake of fairness, such arbitrary decisions are better left to random chance.
Worst of all (for me), three of my choices are in this category which really reduces my chances of getting a show to the final four. If I'd known we were splitting them up like this I'd have picked one show for each category, just saying.
EDIT: Oh yeah, my voting:
1. The Oblongs
2. Better Off Ted - Brilliant, kooky and funny. Given time it could've been the new Scrubs, but they canned it instead.
3. The Unusuals
4. Police Squad!
5. Clerks
6. The Tick
7. Andy Richter Controls The Universe - This, also, could've been a strong alternative to Scrubs.
8. Freaks and Geeks -
1. Pirates of Dark Water. I've always found Trigun a pretty average and sometimes laborious anime. I wouldn't say I hated it, but I don't think it's all that.
2. Invader Zim. Not seen enough of Afro Samurai to judge it. It looked good, but Zim was simply awesome.
3. NGE. Superbly put together and really original for its time.
4. Freakazoid.
5. Dungeons and Dragons. I'm giving it some love as I still fondly remember some fine episodes from this corny old show.
6. Nadesico. Not a huge fan of either show, but Nadesico had some very funny moments.
7. The Big Guy and Rusty.
8. Cowboy Bebop. Sophisticated, somewhat whimsical and very original. One of the very finest anime series ever made. -

Quote:Fun fact, Facebook will actually ban you if you use a fake name, or even if your name sounds a little fake.Isn't Facebook similar, though? I personally don't know anyone who doesn't use their real name on Facebook, and it's a WHOLE lot easier to gain someone's personal info by just clicking on his or her name. What's the big difference with what Blizzard is going to start doing?

Quote:Wise words and I couldn't agree more.I'm quite sure when the Devs forced us to accept changes like these that they felt they were improving the game for us. I'm not suggesting any of the "improved" items were bad - I'm just making the point that new versions of items should always be ADDED to the game instead of being forced on us as REPLACEMENTS beyond our control.
Quote:P.S. The Devs need to give us a new version of female Bikini 2 bottoms with the "Sleek" texture so they can match up with the "Sleek Tights" tops.
Ditto for the Shorts 1-3 and Athletic options too! -

Quote:Yes! Very yes!! That would be so cool.Something I just recently noticed:
Alternate animations for Assault Rifle. I want the popout guns that the PPD hard-suits use sometimes. The guns that pop out of their arms and back. Those things are awesome. If we could have something similar, heck, for all kinds of powers (but Assault Rifle could use something special to spice it up), we wouldn't need a special Power Armor powerset.
While on the subject of alternative animations for blast sets, an eye blast set would be pretty cool too (particularly Energy/Electric/Rad Blast).
It obviously wouldn't work for every power (Short Circuit/Irradiate), but since there are already several animations in the game that would fit optic blasting well (see: Sonic Blast) I figured it's something worth suggesting.
EDIT:
Quote:Posted for completeness - David was kind enough to promise to look into this in a PM...but I am interested to see how people respond.
How about if ALL auras optionally become combat auras. I think it would be a lot of fun to select as a combat aura: fiery eyes, or tendril hands, or full-body smolder or whatever as combat-activated.
Quote:One thing I've wanted since alternate animations were announced was a headbutt animation for Cobra Strike from Martial Arts. The current alternate animation, an uppercut, looks fine and all, but it's not really well-suited for an attack that is primarily used to stun enemies. An uppercut is, after all, a "power" punch. A headbutt would work much better with the power thematically, and could really be interchangeable between the two styles of animations. -
A report card: 50 Questions Lost Needed to Answer from io9. Looks like they didn't score too well.
I find it fascinating to read stuff like this, to see what limitations others place on their expectations before the show can fulfill them. -
Quote:I would've guessed the same really, but weirdly the creators did use the midichlorian excuse for the numbers several years ago, but then went on to unveil the Valenzetti Equation more recently. It seems they either changed their mind about it or invented the Equation later. My guess is something like: 4. The writers had the Valenzetti Equation in their back pocket and realized that it was a "Midichlorian" thing, so instead of coming up with a better explaination, they changed Hugo's central mystery away from the numbers to the "I see dead people" deal and explained it away with a throwaway line in Season 6.
I'm not a fan of the DHARMA-oriented answer anyway, as the majority of the numbers' mysteries occur in ways DHARMA couldn't possibly influence.
Likewise, I usually separate on-screen canon from extended canon.
My guess is, the creators just got sick of being asked what the numbers mean and just invented an answer for the fans who really care abotu that sort of thing. -
Quote:Since you're asking seriously... they're variables in a mathematical formula designed to predict the end of humanity. Seriously:6. Seriously... what's the deal with The Numbers? Is it really as simple as "Jacob likes numbers"?
Quote:"Here's the story with numbers. The Hanso Foundation that started the Dharma Initiative hired this guy Valenzetti to basically work on this equation to determine what was the probability of the world ending in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Valenzetti basically deduced that it was 100 percent within the next 27 years, so the Hanso Foundation started the Dharma Initiative in an effort to try to change the variables in the equation so that mankind wouldn't wipe it itself out."
Though how that ties into Jacob, the Lighthouse and the candidates is another question entirely. -
I had to look up "outrigger shoot-out" as I couldn't remember that scene at all. Turns out it was fairly inconsequential anyhow so I'm happy to ignore it.
It is fun to read people on various Lost dicussion forums agonising over it though, hehe. -
Alternative ending!

Quote:I would absolutely love to see a muscular texture for women in the game. I would use it a lot, and not just on statuesque female heroes.I say we don't need a "huge female" model, we don't need new meshes, we don't need larger arms or different physiques. JUST a more muscular texture for females, created by our awesome artists, would put a stop to practically all the requests for bigger females. And you can take that to the bank!
What you've got there is a great mock-up. I would prefer a bit less heavy definition, particularly on the thighs, but as you say it's not perfect but for so little work it's great. It does a very good job of illustrating your point. -
I'm very glad to see this thread! Thanks for giving us some of your time, David.
I'm just going to ask for something I've been dying to see since I began playing 4 years ago, and on the surface it seems a simple task but of course I don't know, I hope at least that it's not too difficult:
Shiny shorts! More specifically, some new items based on the Bottoms with Skin options for females and identical to them, except the 'clothing' part of them is shiny to match Tights Sleek.
Even more specifically, the following parts would be my priority:- All three short shorts (the plain, the one with a slit up the side, and the one with a vent).
- The panty/bikini bottoms.
- The Athletic shorts.
There are of course several other bottoms (or tops!) you could look at, but those I listed above are definitely my most deleriously wanted.
So, is that possible? -

Quote:Are you imagining the case of stretching the sliders to approximate Huge, or in a smaller increase of a 10-20% extension on sliders, or both? I can certainly imagine the great distortion with messing with pushing the mesh too far, but would a smaller increase still throw things out of whack?Expanding the range of the sliders means changing the geometry of the model, and the more the geo changes, the more it starts intersecting badly with costume pieces and requiring more and more custom parts. So to really make the sliders accomplish what you want, it puts us back in that same boat where it would take too long to recreate everything.
For example She-Hulk or Power Girl aren't even close to the level of hugeness of the Male Huge body type, but they are both popular comic characters whose body shapes can't be reproduced in this game. A woman of that size - someone with a slightly thicker upper body and arms but not massively bulging with muscle - is what I think of when someone mentions the Huge Female type.
I really appreciate you taking the time out to answer our questions even if it's not always what we want to hear. -
-
Quote:As a possible compromise I'd like to ask:Creating alternate versions of a given costume part requires a character artist to rescale and refinish each one by hand. The process is repeated for each other category, so adding a 4th category would require that much more time for every single piece that's in the game. It's neither simple or fast.
So to get Female Huge, the tradeoff would've been losing at least a quarter of everything else in the game: 25% fewer costumes, 25% fewer enemies, etc. On top of that, you have to take into consideration the animation time involved. Every category receives custom-scaled animations whenever there's a weapon, cape, or other object involved (so the hands fit properly).
Bottom line, it's a massive undertaking that wouldn't really get us a lot of bang for the buck. Three scalable body types covers the vast majority of characters that players want to make, so while it'd be nice to have another one, the price is unfortunately too high.
Have you ever tried, say, just extended the upper end of the female body type's scalars (say, Shoulders and Physique, and maybe Waist) by about 10-20%?
I've seen several decent attempts at making a large buff female, but the upper body (especially the thickness of the arms) always let it down.
EDIT: Hah, look at that. Samuel_Tow beat me to it by a minute. What he said and ditto on the muscle texture idea. -
I'll try and answer a few of your queries:
1. With Arctic Air, personally I think you really need Fitness. Dominators aren't like Controllers, they should be throwing powers out constantly and that's a massive drain, especially the AoEs. My Mind/Psi/Scorp perma-Dom's only toggles are 2 Leadership powers and an armour, that's a fraction of your cost of Arctic Air's plus armour, and he still needs Stamina with Drain Psyche charging as fast as it does. At the very least I would suggest if you want the Stamina-free route to work for you, slot EndRed in your attacks, not just in AA.
2. Surprisingly, Ghost Widow the Dominator patron has always had a so-so set of powers for Dominators. Until the pools were recently expanded, Scirroco's PPP was universally better in every respect than Ghost Widow's. Now, the gap between the two is closer and they each offer something different, but Mu Mastery still has a much better pet and a shorter recharge on its endurance drain power. Whichever pool you take, you can't rely on the AoE damage power to become part of your regular attack chain - the recharge is too long. I've not tried the Psi Assault/Mu combo, but I've tried them on seperate characters and they both add a lot to your survivability. Don't expect to be invincible, but it should be a good mix.
3. Jack's dandy right now. He's a lot more active.
4. Yeah it can be expensive, but my Mind/Psi/Scorp hit perma-dom without resorting to a single LotG and without altering his power selection, just his slotting. It can be done. That said, my current Dom (Grav/Ice/Mu) doesn't even have IOs slotted and is still a demon. I'd say play your Dom first, and see where you're lacking as you level up. Wait until level 26 or 32 before finalising a IO build plan, as those last two primary powers turn the Dom's fortunes around. As Ice/Psi is quite a close range set, +HP, +Regen and +Res/Def couldn't hurt. And without Stamina EndRed and +Recov are a must. You're on the right track with your idea. -

Introducing Bebe Wilder, a bubble-gum chewing, pistol-packing she-Corruptor:
I wanted a sort of punky, exploitation movie vibe for my girl.
BANG!
Special thanks to Drakmarth for grabbing me some screens (my laptop can't play the game in pretty mode).
