Errr, it's not - the post before your post is dated May 27.
(And I've still got that shortcut on my desktop.) -
His hat rocks - as do her oven mittens.
When he talks about healers, I keep expecting Lady Athyna's foot to burst out of the guy's chest, then the camera pans around to reveal a satisfied looking Lady standing behind him. -
That's about 200 spawns then. Tons of 5th.
-
Sounds like it's not a required, then, but a very highly desirable. Otherwise you have to burn through a lot more HP. (Hero side is more or less doomed to that as Reichsman heals while the heroes fight off the arch-villains.) I would expect brutes/soldiers are very desirable, too, to keep his draining powers from sapping people. That or somebody with some good endurance restoration powers.
So the overall strategy for the villain Reichsman would be....
0. Get a bunch of wakies. If you want some empowerments then get them before you start on Ghost Widow. You do NOT want to leave the mission map once things get rolling. I hope your difficulty level is at minimum, too.
1. Defeat Ghost Widow.
2. Jump into the sparky glowing red thing at the center of the machine. Get your temp power and put it in a good spot on your power bar, you're going to need it.
3. Get the whole team off to one side, well away from the machine.
4. Take bio breaks fast. Next rest stop, 30 miles.
5. Reichsman will appear. Ignore him.
6. After a few minutes, 5th Column will start appearing. Lots of them, with plenty of bosses. Kill them all but be sure not to get close to Reichsman! Corruptors, use your dust devils to do even more damage. Dominators, enjoy putting dozens in a hold with one shot. Stalkers, if things get very bad, you can stealth up to the booths with laser doors using your temp super-stealth power and trip a failsafe that clears all the 5th but Reichsman - handy for recovering when the team is getting wiped out but there are only 4 failsafe switches.
7. Kill off even more 5th Column. Lots and lots and lots more. You might want to use this opportunity to prime your inspire tray with good inspires.
8. Eventually, the 5th will taper off. Don't you believe it. Still, those temp powers only last 20 minutes, this might be a good time to sneak back into the machine and recharge them. Reichsman is standing right in front of it, though. If you don't have some serious stealth on the whole party, he's going to see you and attack. DON'T ATTACK BACK, just get the power and run. He shouldn't (I hope) be as angry with you so he shouldn't chase you as long if you don't hurt him at all. (No, I haven't tried this myself.)
9. Very eventually (maybe 30 minutes later?) the 5th will stop coming. Make sure they really have stopped by taking a breather - next rest stop, 20 miles.
10. Start pounding on Reichsman. This guy's big lightning attack is a very large (60ft?) point blank AoE that does some serious damage and hits you with a serious stun. Squishies are probably best off clustered together at long range. Melees encircle Reichsman. Then just start pounding.
11. Keep pounding. This guy has the hit points of 10 giant monsters so it will probably take something like 5 minutes to see any change in his health bar at all. As you can guess, this is going to be a LONG term fight. Warburg nukes and temp power pets are nice for a quick bit of help but they will not carry you through the entire fight. Not even close.
12. Eventually, you'll notice that you are doing 0 damage. That's the MM's signal to blast him with your Black Scorpion power and turn his invunerability off - permanently. If you don't have a master mind on team, you'll just have to wait it out. He should only use his invulnerability 3 times.
13. Keep pounding and pounding. Eventually, he will go down. -
Quote:You would think - but that's all handled client side, I'm pretty sure. That stuff doesn't clear out when a demo loops, either. I searched through gigabytes worth of demo files and never found a single instance of it.FXDEBRIS
Most likely the floating pebbles that remain after Hurl Boulder and similar leftover particles.

On the colors thing, it's like he said. Colors are decribed as a red value (0 to 255), green (0 to 255) and blue (0 to 255). Put the numbers through the formula he gave and you have the number in the demo. (Except you have to make it negative for reasons unknown.)
Kinda odd they are doing that. Colors elsewhere, like in costumes, are hexadecimal. Oh well, easy enough to deal with. -
Quote:You might want to look up a quote about honey and vinegar. You certainly aren't going to win a lot of friends with DevHate around here and I have to wonder if I'm supposed to be one of those "nazi psychos" myself.
Now, of course the forum nazi psychos are once again going to roll out with "how little I know about this game"
You were quite right when you said Reichsman was phasing. He does that - taps the power of the other planes or some such. To stop him from doing that, your mastermind needs to use his temp power. One shot should do it, preferably done when everybody sees their damage go to 0. If it's been more than 20 minutes, no problem, just pop back into the machine and get a refill.
It's what you are supposed to do if you don't have a mastermind that worries me. I guess he can only use that power so often. If you can crank up enough damage per second, you can do more damage while phase is off than he can regenerate while phase is on. Personally, I think I would just assume a MM is required.
Brutes get a power that helps stop Reichsman's endurance draining. Dominators get a power that lets them put all the 5th (except Reichsman) in a hold - no 16 enemy maximum for that power! Corruptors get a tornado to help dish out damage.
Those little rooms beside the machine are for the stalkers - they can get in an use them with their temp power's super-stealth. Each one can be used only once and, when used, they will kill every single 5th column in the room (except Reichsman). Anyone who tries to go into the rooms without the temp stealth power dies very quickly. Anyone who gets rezzed in that room had better stumble out fast or they will die again.
That reminds me of another interesting fact we found out the hard way - if you exit the mission to go to the hospital or something, your temp powers are taken away. You'll have to go into the machine again to get a reload. -
BaB posted a message in closed beta from "one of our developers" (I call him OoOD) that gives the low-down:
Quote:And no, I have no idea what FXDEBRIS is.Warning: This information is only useful to demo makers who are comfortable hand editing their .cohdemo files. Thats not something we explicitly support but I wanted to give a heads-up to the filmmakers out there.
In order to make color tinting work in demos we added a new command, FXTINT. This command sets the primary and secondary colors for the most recent FX. If youve seen FXSCALE and FXDEBRIS in your demo files this is analogous to them. FXTINT takes two parameters, both decimal numbers, which are the primary and secondary tint values for the FX.
For example, from my little test demo:
0 46 FX Maintained 29 CUSTOMIZEABLEPOWERS/FIRECONTROL/SMOKEHIT.FX 0
0 46 FXSCALE 10.000000 10
0 46 FXTINT -8388608 -8388480
This sets the just-fired smokehit FX colors to 128,0,0 (medium red) for the primary and 128,0,128 (medium magenta) for the secondary. The way those numbers get encoded is like this:
Demo file number =
Red * 65536 +
Green * 256 +
Blue
Sorry its not more friendly but the usual reader/writer of those numbers is the code rather than human beings.
Note that the FX itself is what determines the blend mode so you have to change to a different FX if you want a different look.
The FXTINT command updates whatever effect was most recently created by an FX command, so you can add more than one FXTINT line with different timestamps and make the FX change color at least until another FX is created. Bring on the rainbows, fade-ins and flares!
Ah, and my new power colors video just got done uploading! This one is a direct recording of live play, so I trade off odd moving corpses for a lot of GUI in the way, but it will do.
Power Colors Demonstration -
We didn't have any of those when we fought him hero side but we still did just fine. It takes patience over there. Just bash on him until his health goes down a bit, then bash on the AVs as they wake up. Reichs will heal while you do but there are only so many AVs and, once they are all down, it's time to wail on the big guy. AVs are not part of the same spawn as Reichs so, if you do all get wiped, just pull the AV and finish him/her/it.
Villain side is just wasting us, though. We don't have any stalkers and our Mastermind didn't show. We had one brute, a couple of dominators, and four (!) corruptors. We started our attack, the 5th came and just about wiped us. Team teleport let us set up shop in a room off to the side where we defeated 5th until they stopped coming.
Then we went in to take down Reichsman and it was going well. We recharged our powers and were starting to make progress. Then MORE 5th started pouring in! Again we started to die, again a vet team teleported us, again we fought back. The enemies tapered off pretty fast this time so we headed for the cave. GHAAA! Sneaky 5th. They attacked from all three sides! That took our entire team down.
By then it was 11pm and time for folks to go.
So I take it there are a finite number of waves that come after you, just like there were a finite number of AVs hero side? The 5th do give xp/inf and drop inspires and the devs learned not to do that with never-ending spawns. I think they were dropping enhancers and recipes and whatnot, too, but I wasn't paying attention.
Villain side is definitely WAY harder than hero side. It will certainly take a lot longer, too. Not only do you have the 4 AVs at the start, those waves take FAR longer to take down than an AV. Riechsman is sure to heal all the way between waves. -
Here's a VERY rushed demo of the new power colors, as demonstrated by my rad/energy blaster against a bunch of grey Vhaz. This was made from a demo as I can't get into the actual test server right now. (A pity, I've made characters with much better colors than this.)
http://www.wegame.com/watch/Purple_Power/
Something for you demo folks, the colors are made with the FXTINT command which lets you set the RGB colors. While players can only pick a pair of colors, in a demo you can change those colors as much as you want, even while the power is 'playing'! I haven't had time to fiddle with it yet, but it should make for some good fun. -
Quote:So there IS a limit to the number of troops? Thank goodnes, I thought those spawns would be endless!
We finally cleared the vast numbers of 5th column troops in the cave and then Reichsman was the relaxing part
I sure hope our Mastermind shows up tonight or this is going to be pretty much impossible. -
Well....
This kind of talk wakes up a lot of geeks! -
HiJack really hasn't been keeping up, it's never worked all that great on Vista.
I would aim at the ATI drivers first. They don't look terribly old but, if some file has gotten corrupted, updating will likely write right over the problem.
Oh, and you really should update those sound drivers. I doubt they are causing this problem but they could cause other issues. -
Oh no, we've seen this sort of behavior before! Ishmael has returned!!
-
Soon? This old dog is still trying to learn that new trick. Every few days I find myself searching through the file system for 10 minutes plus. Then, with a loud "DUH!", I go down to the Search and find it in two seconds. And I got Vista just a month after it hit the streets!
I think I need to set up a wave file that plays when File Explorer starts. It will just be a voice saying "You sure search won't be faster?" -
Quote:Uhhh, you're running under a language made for Windows 98. What the Hades do you expect??
The security is STUPID.
By the way, I can run the program fine after installing the VB 5 runtimes. It crashes and burns when I try to cut to the clipboard (hardly a surprise) but control-C still works just fine.
Now I've got a link for you: go out and get the Visual Studio Express Edition for VB. It's a completely free version of VB9. It takes awhile to learn the new stuff but there's tons of help out there on the web now and, once you get a handle on it, you'll have a LOT more power. (That whole problem with the 32768 limit on text boxes? It now defaults to that limit but you can crank it up to a couple billion characters. And that's just a single snowflake on the tip of an iceberg.)
It's either that or keep trying to program for the 90's and blaming Microsoft every time it doesn't work. -
You know about Leandro's Splasher program so you can pop these in to places around Paragon, right?

Here's another clue for a so called player - you have NOT seen the code. You have no idea what will be easy, what will be difficult, and what will crush the servers' minds if you try it. They've already had to make modifications to the game engine to get the stuck-in-walls problem down to the level it's at now.
-
TinyUrl didn't work, I tried that the first day. The %7e did, though! I bet I can use that for a signature file, too.
Mids (or whoever is supporting that program now) will need to change his program, just like I had to fiddle with CoH Helper. That's not the board's fault.
Mid = Mids?? That would explain... well, that wouldn't explain anything at all. But it would sure be a surprise! -
Quote:I'm using IE8, actually. Posts ARE showing up as new, it's just not doing it right. It's like the page thinks I last visited the thread about 4 hours ago when it's actually been more like 24 hours ago. PC's clock is correct and on the correct date. I checked my Options in the User CP and, at the bottom of the list, it gives the correct time of day for me.I had the same problem yesterday using Firefox Zloth. Apparently I'd been off the forums long enough that some timing string that Firefox read concluded that the threads were no longer New or no longer had New Posts.
I opened up IE and those same threads and posts were marked as New.
Chalk another one up against Firefox.
Oh well, I'll keep fiddling. -
It is buggy - it's some software they have running and it needs to get updated. (It used to be software run by SabreCat some centuries ago.) I'm sure it's on somebody's very long ToDo list.
I'm getting killed by two things.
1. Posts only show up as new if they have been posted within the last few hours. I'm missing a LOT of new posts because of this. Maybe subcribing to the forums will help....
2. Not allowing ~'s in URLs is killing me. I can't upload an avatar or signature because of that. Trying to upload a signature picture directly seems to do nothing at all. No error, no picture.
I really like these new slate'ish colors and the format looks great, but I'm starting to turn into a hater. -
Well, the first thing we need to do, of course, is recheck all the I15 stuff because somebody wasn't there to help test! They tried making it a totally open beta test but it just wasn't enough.
Welcome back Djeannie! -
Quote:Nice job Velvet! I like the frame-freeze-spin thing! It's been a long while, but I finished a 3rd LL video last week, but with the forums down, I couldn't post it.
Anyways, here it be:

Quote:Yeah, you said that further down in your post as an aside. What you said at first was:
As I said if you have higher RAM, leave SuperFetch alone. This is more aimed towards folks like me who only have about 1GB or lower.
Quote:One of Vista's many Services is called "SuperFetch". What this does is tracks the programs you use and does some sort of preloading to make frequently used programs run faster. Believe me when I say this is total BS, and a massive hinderance to gaming.
Now you, on the other hand, have only a gig of memory - not a very common thing for gaming machines with Vista. In that case, you aren't going to have a lot of memory for superfetch to play with anyway, so turning it off may not hurt you much. For folks with 2+ gig, though, turning off superfetch is going to cost a lot of time.
Also, if you play in full screen mode, desktop composition should turn off automatically. It will switch back on when you pop out of the game.
