There is no new particle, they've just made and "old" one go faster than it should have (possibly). It's called a Neutrino.

For the purpose of these discussions were are talking about the speed of light in a vacuum. The speed of light can be slowed by outside forces, such as atmosphere and things of that nature.
Light as we see it on Earth is actually slightly slower than light in a vacuum.

If you had enough energy to boost a particle to light speed it just takes ever more energy to keep it at light speed because the mass of the particle increases and as mass increases you need more energy thus a bigger fuel tank... hypothetically all you needs is a disconnected fuel source and a way to keep ahead of the curve to move faster than light.

That is if that limit is just because of the practicality issue.
As you go faster, you increase mass. The more mass you have, the more power is required to make you go faster.
Eventually you reach a point where you need infinite energy to go any faster because your mass is so great.
Light doesn't have any mass, so naturally it can travel faster than anything else since it's not gaining mass by travelling faster.
Neutrinos, which is what CERN used have mass, so in theory it should have taken infinite energy to accelerate one past the speed of light.

So, either physics is wrong (which is very very interesting) or CERN is wrong (which is both disappointing and boring).

There are a few things wrong here.
From what I've read. he's said he'll be back in some fashion, heavily implying he won't be a regular companion.
Additionally, from what I've read, the new Series will start airing in 2012, but in the autumn, and finish in 2013 since it'll be split into two like this season.

Really? In an episode that references Horns of Nimon?

And really, I thought it was kind of implied that he'd had it happen before, there wasn't an actual need to say it.

Doctor Who has always been continuity light, no reason to start making references all the time now.
  8. Another great episode in my opinion, started out funny, then got creepy and finally his with an unsuspecting emotional punch.

Loved the monster costumes and also the clever little nod to the 4th Doctor story "The Horns of Nimon".

    SPOILERS!!!!

Are Amy and Rory really gone? I somehow think they'll be back for the final episode... but it makes me wonder if something really nasty is in store for them...

    Never say no to panda.

Just sit down and have some biskwits.

Are you sure you didn't go to the KKK's website by mistake or something?
Because if so, that might explain the problems you had.

No tools, no analysis equipment, no prior expertise, and yet she throws together a plot magic device. Sorry, I don't buy that one.
37 years is not "sudden" aptitude.

You seem to be not grasping how much time elapsed.

Really? You don't think being alone, fighting for your life for 30+ years might jade one's views or cause psychological problems?

The Master had spent considerable time and resources converting the TARDIS to be able to do that though and it was all undone once his additions were destroyed.

Let me put it this way: I've seen just about every episode of every Star Trek series ever produced but the only DVD box sets of those series I've bothered to buy so far have been the TOS sets.
As demonstrated here, the price of things are less dictated by how much they cost to make, and more to do with how much people are willing to pay.
That's why everything is more expensive in cities and everything is cheaper in [insert country here].
People are prepared to pay more for Star Trek than Chuck, so Star Trek gets a bigger price tag and Chuck gets a smaller one.
  16. Or, as Rory pointed out, check to see if the ENTIRE PLANET was in quarantine or anything.
  17. It's odd, I've never had any problem with the music levels.
  18. Massive spoilers:

Rory is easily my favourite companion of all time.
He had two absolutely outstanding moments, the first was his anger at the Doctor not taking any precautions.
    "That's not how I travel."
"Then I don't want to travel with you!"

    and

"You're trying to turn me into you!" at seeing the Doctor give him the impossible choice.

Over all, the Doctor was almost borderline evil in this episode.
He condemns Amy to over 40 years alone, then to fix the problem, he lies to her, trips her at the last hurdle and finally forces her boyfriend to choose to erase her from reality.
  19. I thought this was a cracking episode. Very sad.

The question is, in that situation, what would you do? What COULD you do?

  21. Oh wow, over half of my PMs are from Lord of Time, due to our mutual enjoyment of Doctor Who...

    Farewell Lord of Time.
