No game comes close to matching CoX in its combat engine and I bang my head against the keyboard when I see how new MMOs just continue to not get it and there seems no attempt to learn from CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
Was just going on about that in my SG forum.
The sidekick system isn't simple and easy, I'm sure it takes a lot of code to keep things straight when you get sidekicked up 3 levels right in the middle of having your zombies crawl up out of the dirt. Still, other games should be using this system. It will need another name (apprentice, perhaps) but the basic system is a *MAJOR* plus to MMO gaming.
Honestly, I have trouble taking any MMO without a system like this seriously. If a friend of mine logs in, I expect to be able to play with them. And by "play" I do not mean "power-level them all night so they catch up on levels". But no other MMO has that, or even seems to be looking at it. (Or did EQ2 get something in?) CoX downright spoiled me! Am I not going to be able to play any other MMO until Cryptic pushes the Marvels out the door!? -
Have you got the latest mouse drivers for your mouse?

Here's another issue....
I've got my desktop shortcut to the updater set to disable desktop composition. Thing is, it ain't working. I've got the same thing set for Oblivion and, when it runs, there's a message popup in the system tray to tell me it's happening and using alt-tab shows me an old-style program list. When I run the updater I get no message and alt-tab'ing still gives the cool glassy look.
Any ideas why? -
I wonder - is City of Heroes trying to play at a different resolution than your desktop? I get the feeling that it isn't the video card drivers, it's the monitor drivers. It sounds like the timings for sending your monitor information are totally off whack.
Let's see.... ah yes, Circ's TweakCoH should be able to fix your resolution up for you. Set it to be the same as your desktop resolution. Same refresh rate, too. -
Coincidentally, that would also be the answer to your question.
-
Or better yet, get a Quinfecta that includes a Boresight!
The original topic was about getting a badge for the Quinfecta. No such luck - Positron says the technology just isn't there for doing that. A pity. I'm afraid some folks will actually get this and not even know it because it came in the middle of a big battle.
I wonder who will be the first to get a quinfecta from a minion? -

And oh yeah, protecting all the students there from the evvvviiils of the Internet?
[/ QUOTE ]
And keeping the traffic down. Though I suspect YouToob and other video-related sites will pump a lot more data out than CoH.
Most dorms have cable these days. I wonder if it would be possible to get your own internet connection that way?
You can update - maybe if you used the campus network to keep up to date and got a dailup ISP for actually playing? -
Works fine. 8800 has issues in Arachnos maps but that's under all OSs.

If you're in a business where you can truly take advantage of what 64-bit offers in terms of larger memory spaces and faster data crunching....

It's real nice to have two gig with Cryptic's "old" City Of games. What do you think the "real nice" level will be for their next game?
The game DOES need Admin rights. Screenshots and demos get saved right into the program directory. This game is a bit too old to play by the new rules of saving to the user's directory somewhere. (Oblivion has the same problem with screenshots.) I'm still not clear yet on just how these permissions work but I think you could get around it by making a directory right in the root with your user account then installing from CD. Installing via the updater SHOULD work but the stupid thing has an ancient bug that switches slashes around and ends up braining the thing when you try to select a directory to use. Or you might make the new directory then change the registry entry for the game to point to that new directory. Something along those lines, anyway.
Matt - Rubber Banding is a network thing. There's a good chance going to Vista was just a coincidence and your problems are being caused by wiring going bad or your ISP. However, better make sure. What do you have turned on in Vista Business? You don't have a web server on that machine, do you? Have you got a HiJack log you can post for us? (Instructions on HiJack are in the 'before you post' sticky topic.) -

If you have installed your game to the default location, you can copy and paste the line above into your target field.

Unless you are using 64-bit, in which case it's more like
"C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -compatiblecursors 1 -renderthread 1
Tyrannotaur, looks like you are running at a resolution your monitor doesn't support. -
Well, it would be trivial to get the character data out of any demo. Pulling the effects out of the PIGG files and displaying them in another program is way, way beyond me, though.
For the best darkness, get to the last mission of the second Shadow Shard TF. It's plenty dark! OK, so it will take awhile to get there - are you dedicated to your character or what? -
Photomanipulation hard, demomanipulation very very easy.

bah devs too good for /screenshot?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would guess they like being able to record the whole thing, then go back and review frame by frame to find the one they like best.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bulls eye. If you're just posing or showing the landscape, simply hitting the screenshot key does fine. But if you want action shots like this or this then you've got to use demos or hope to get really lucky.
I guess that peg-arm shot the OP found could be some form of the long arms bug, but it doesn't really look like it to me. Maybe this is a bug that hasn't gone live yet? -
A Radeon 9800. A three year old video card, iirc. You folks want to explain why your game ISN'T looking that good now?
-
If it's going to do the flamethrower thing then it's going to need to look a tad super-soaker'ish because it has to be able to spray liquid. And those M30 grenades aren't exactly tiny, they need a big barrel. And you ain't gonna snipe with a big barrel so you need a long, small barrel as well.
And thus the Frakengun is born. -
My namesake tank got pulled through time by a rather inept CoT mage that didn't know protection spells from a hole in the wall. Zloth's way-cool black armor turned into a rainbow and the mighty warrior is just a burnt husk, barely alive and trapped inside the armor.
My supergroup, being a warm and caring bunch of heroes, have taken to pouring Skittles into the armor and using him as a giant candy jar. -
Huh? Here's a beta AR shot - the gun looks just the same.

Crush is a key component in your ST damage attack chain
[/ QUOTE ]
My what now? ST?
Propel flashy but over-rated: Hehe, good to see it rated at all! Back in old'n days it did less damage per second than brawl, and not by just a little bit.
Lift can also be enhanced with knockback which should throw the enemies higher if there's room. Probably a good thing to do at higher levels (35+) when it's damage starts to look pretty sad.
Snowstorm is very good but, as you say, very hungry. Also, be sure to keep an eye on your anchor. Keep BOTH eyes on if it's a teleporter. Enemies with this debuff on them can agro other spawns and they are going to start off hating your puny little controller.
Crushing Field + Burn/Ignite patch..... mmm so tasty!
Steamy Mist is awfully good but I hear ya on endurance. Hurricane + Steamy Mist + Snowstorm really isn't going to happen for long, even with Stamina. Still, I think I would trade Crush for it. The stealth is quite handy and the resist is very handy against certain enemy types. I would get it and then use it as the situation warrents. (Particularly on outdoor maps with few corners.) And remember, Steamy protects everyone near you, not just yourself.
[ QUOTE ]
You definitely need this (Stamina) to run a Grav/Storm controller, Needs 3 endurance mod slots
[/ QUOTE ]
BBBBZZZZZTTT!! Well, OK, you do need it for the vast majority of your career. However, thanks to three recharge enhancers in my Hibernate power, my level 50 is doing just fine without the whole fitness set. And, to tell the truth, she usually only needs to get endurance back against AVs and monsters, or if the team gets some surprise adds.
[ QUOTE ]
The other nerf, which I believe is a bug, is that when you hold or immobilize a mob and then nudge him with hurricane he will be repelled 20-30 ft past the outside of the effect of the hurricane. Before they played with this power, it would only repel the mob to the outside of the effect.
[/ QUOTE ]
YOW! Yeah, that sounds like a bug. Does Hurricane still repel the wrong way if you hit an enemy that has been held by somebody else?
[ QUOTE ]
Wormhole is a fantastic power and is the power that defines gravity.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahhh, another statement to warm my hart. Just a couple of years ago it was "totally useless" and when they made it AoE it was "even worse".
[ QUOTE ]
Unlike Stalagmites and flash fires, you cannot cast this while having line of sight, if you do you will take a full alpha before I goes off.
[/ QUOTE ]
Range enhancers can beef that 60ft up quite a bit. Long range attackers can still get shots off at you but most will try running at you. I actually put a Range SO in first for this power, then get into the accuracy/recharge, then maybe toss another range in at high levels.
Where did O2 Boost go!? That's one heck of a heal, particularly at low levels when you can't do much controlling yet. It doesn't heal a ton of damage but it does heal a pretty good amount and you get to do it at range to anyone you like without any silly to-hit rolls (which is a big factor at low levels). It even tosses in a lot of status protections.
I've found Tornado to be handy in some situations. It's great against AVs and Monsters where it just sits on them and ticks off damage. It's also a nice finishing power when you've pulled the worst teeth a spawn has and you're just cleaning up. (Also, if you can get three or four storm defenders/controllers together.... oh my, it's like fighting inside one of those old air-pop popcorn machines!)

This is my build after hours and hours on test, about 8 respecs and leveling myself from 1 to the mid 40's twice.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you have here is the best build for YOUR playstyle. For some folks out there, though, it's going to be rather so-so simply because they aren't playing quite the way you are. Heck, even if they do play exactly like you, it still may not work out as well because of somebody they play with! -
Yeah! Jeesh, I had forgotten about that. I think outdoor spawns have always been dynamic but indoor missions were set as soon as you went in. I think it was before Issue 2 though, maybe more like Issue 1. I don't see it in the patch notes anywhere.
-
Updated my updates guide so it's now current. (This should ensure that the fixes on Test right now will go live in less than 24 hours. )
-
??? I don't think Air Warrior was ever on CompuServe. That was the GEnie network.
Oh dear, Castle played AW a bunch? That means Castle probably shot me down at least once. In fact, anyone who played AW for more than a few hours for either B or C land has most likely shot me down. I died an awful lot, but A-Land would never be smaller when I logged off than when I logged on! -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyone who doesn't think that CoH is going to be the forgotten step-child of Cryptic now that they have the Marvel license is just fooling themselves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Uhhh, no.
1. Money made from this game is needed to make the new games (or at least make the payments on the loans taken out to make the new games).
2. Step-child is a horrible metaphore. This game has the Cryptic senior staff's guts all over it. It's ALL original to them. They invented all the enemies and heroes from Statesman down to the Crey Cola plot. No way will they ever forget this! -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, I am of the opinion you don't need to show skin to be hot.
[/ QUOTE ]
You certainly don't - especially in CoX. But it does help.
