Quote:Yep. Cold is Storm for Dummies. I still have a love/hate relationship with Hurricane. I think Cold more than holds it's weight against Storm and that's not even with the ease of use factor either.**shrugs** depends on the situation. As an obvious proponent of Storm, I generally consider Cold to be more powerful, especially for equal amounts of effort. Played smart, Storm can perform better against groups on account of Hurricane and LS (and to a lesser extent Thunder Clap). Against hard targets though, Cold pulls miles ahead thanks to benumb and shields not being susceptible to the purple patch. Not to mention that cold gets the joys of endless endurance which opens up more slotting and incarnate options.

Bill, I also don't see FE factored in at all as well.

I did two more runs this morning and went from 10 to 12. I had Spin topping out at 201, but then got it up to 214. This being a makeshift level 50 and no enhancement slotting. Without AoE, this to me would be a frustrating process. Stone, IIRC, has longer recharges so that will make the process slower as well.
Outside of survival issues, end is a huge concern. Now that the build is level 12, I'll e-mail the build some level 15 common IOs and keep the extra in my e-mail so I can grab them as I level. I'm just glad my fire resist is going from 22% into the 50s now that I got Temp. Protect. and some enhancements. Hasten, Plasma Shield, and Focus are up next for powers so I'm happy about that. I just need to figure out how far I can boost the diff setting now. -
Quote:It's so easy to rewrite that and make it sound like soloing a pylon, or even the one RWZ challenge.I didn't say I had a problem with farming, I just said I don't understand the obsession with it.
If that's what you want to do, go for it. I just don't see what is fun about pressing the same buttons, in the same order, killing the same enemies, on the same map, over and over again. -
Unless I missed something, setting your diff at -1 does nothing in AE. I tried doing that and I got even con mobs. One thing to know about the ambush farms, the items that you attack to set off the ambushes have three waves worth of ambushes in them. In other words, don't try to destroy the item completely from the start, or you'll get three ambushes at once. Since power gaming like this is one of the few things I haven't tried, I broke down and made a Claws/fire just to see how easy it could be done since it seems to be so easy. At level ten my setting is at 0x1. I need to grab the binds to convert inspirs, but I do think getting the second shield and at least DOs/common IOs in the build will start to help a lot. I wouldn't touch a fire farm until at least 8, and 12, or 16 would be even better.

Quote:Is this via soloing? If it is, then turn down your diff setting to what you can manage. The problem with power gaming early is that you have too few of slots, powers, and tools in general to pull it off, or even if you do, you quickly run out of end trying. The 20s is still early enough where slots are rather tight. You still don't have DS who will help out a lot in you staying vertical. Sure, you can add in Tough and Weave and eventually the APP shield, but do you have the end management tools to run 4 toggles? A vanilla SO type of build won't.What can i use in my build to get a bit of s/l so i don't get killed by just 7 or 8 even cons so quickly?
For now, I would find a diff setting that you can handle. Work on a build that will pull off what you want to do in the end and start investing in it. DN and FS still should cover a lot of the incoming damage. I would look up binds that convert inspirs into the desired one that you want. Soloing large mobs is very much about chugging inspirs like candy. -

RE: -recovery on EMP Arrow and EM Pulse.
In all honesty I think a single blue pretty much takes care of the end issue and that's based on SOs. Nukes are far more annoying to deal with. -

Looks good although my forever lack of being even remotely impressed by Eliza Dushku continues on. I think I lost brain cells hearing her voice over work. -
Rad isn't either, but I think it is looking at powers that could use some tweaking. Even as somebody who has played more than my fair share of Kins, I draw blanks when trying to think of tweaks for the set. It would be nice if there were IOs for Siphon Power and Fulcrum. I would say generally speaking people take 7-8 of the powers so at least 25% of the powers from one of their sets don't take IOs.

I don't think the impact of a credible Ice Arrow is that different than what controllers have now. I think it's far more important for the defender though.
-
Dark Blast also gets Life Drain which can be helpful for a Storm, or Cold player.
-
Soloing on my TA/a at low levels pretty much forced me to team. Anything that was remotely credible meant a faceplant on my end. Each of the big three debuff sets get good -tohit debuffs fairly early. Even if Hurricane comes a little later for Storm, it gets Gale, Snow Storm and Freezing Rain by level 8. I probably like TA more than most, but it's rather under performing early and might be the worst primary to start. I was happy whenever I got a new TA power. Ice Arrow is great for soloing even if it's numbers really need to be buffed.
Case in point.
Freeze Ray
Cast: 1 second
Recharge: 10 Seconds
End Cost: 6.864
Duration: 11.92s Held
Ice Arrow
Cast: 1.83 second
Recharge: 18 Seconds
End Cost: 8.528
Duration: 11.92s Held
Now, Ice Arrow does affect recharge times, and movement, but I just don't see why it has lesser numbers in everything outside of duration and that's the same. What does -recharge and -movement matter for 10 seconds when the default hold duration is almost 12?
EDIT: Out of the box you can perma hold something with Freeze Ray. Ice Arrow needs decent slotting to do the same. -
Quote:Controllers can also crit on their controls so they can one shot hold bosses. Even if everything else is the same, it won't be. If you make the buffs be the same for defenders and controllers, then they will be. Controllers are widely more played then defenders late game. No reason to make it even more one sided.I agree with you; controllers have suh great control because they get powers with higher durations and more damage with lower recharge than those available to other ATs. But some people will make the argument regardless and I'd like to avoid it (I am sure Black Scorpion does to).
-
It's not the same thing. Controllers due to their inherit would still get better use out of their controls. If controllers get the same numbers in terms of buffs, defenders don't have an inherit to make them standout versus the controller versions.

If ranged attacks include epics, then that opens things up. If not, then you are really looking at Claws, or DB. If PBAoE can come from the secondary, then that also opens up options.

Quote:I was just about to post how nobody had mentioned this. It's only one season, but it's top notch stuff. It's very realistic compared your typical comedy. They do stellar use of music as well.-Freaks and Geeks (more a "dramedy" than straight up comedy, but very funny and full of '80s pop culture references)

And yes, that's James Franco. -
As long as you understand Earth is a low damage set and will have to team pretty much up to 32, then it's worth looking into. That's really it's only downside. Earth itself is awesome.

Quote:Part of the problem is having three extra powers so scrappers grab Tough and Weave before they might be able to handle the end issues the toggles might cause. This is why I think inherit Fitness is forcing a number of builds to go IOs/Incarnate to make up for it. Not sure if Cardiac wasn't overkill on my Kat/sr, but his end merely dips.Again, this is a high level issue to fix. I use Cardiac, the Performance Shifter +end, Miracle +rec and the Numina's +rec/regen as well as any freebie +recovery bonuses (i.e. not specifically slotted for). I no longer have end issues, but I'm giving up Spiritual or Musculature for it.
-
Well, this will really help my lower level characters gets on some teams.
-
A /sr scrapper with Aid Self is going to be rather hard to kill. I think in most situations the /sr is going to win out. While the /elec will certainly do more damage, it's up to the player to decide if that is "better." Agreed on looking at /elec on a brute due to them getting better numbers from it. /elec develops late on a brute due to getting Energize at 28, but that's the only real downside.

Stalker.
[/thread]
But why? Stalkers get BU versus PS so there is no building up of the damage buff. When CS crits it recharges BU just like it recharges PS for scrappers. This means you can slot Placate more and less on BU. As it currently stands, Burst also has a 100% chance to crit from Hide so even if it only has one AoE, it's a rather nice one.
Scrappers would be the next best, IMO. Brutes don't crit and they get less out of PS versus scrappers due to brutes getting more damage via from Fury. Tank would be an option since the -dmg makes a tank even sturdier and something like Ice/kin can stack -dmg powers and eventually build a character that has a ton of it if you go that route. -
Thank god there's more to this game then just farming. Even then, if one build is 0.2 mil per minute slower than a top farmer, it doesn't mean it's a bad build to farm with. Let's say AAO and SC equal FE and Burn. Shield has no counter to BA and damage auras tend to be the best sources of damage. They should be when farming.
If you find a build you like and it looks good on paper, then roll it. I just got my 8th level 50 last night. Of the 8, I can say that only one of them was done partly due to the influence of the forum and that was mostly in finding what pairs well with the primary which I wanted to try out since I was so clueless about it. Two of my next 50s will be an Ice tank, which is considered the red headed stepchild of tank armor sets these days and a Dark/stone tank, which is widely know for significant end issues. One of my favorite ATs to play right now still gets "lol stalkers" comments. Whatever. I'm having fun. -
Quote:I assume feeling weak is due to /sd? It will improve based on what kind of IOs you have invested in and eventually being incarnate will help as well. I would say on my Claws/regen the 30s was the last time I really felt uber on the build. Once I hit 40-50 the annoying mobs happened and I got sick of being a beta tested for a voodoo doll. Kat will help so you might not feel it as much. Again, I have no clue what you have invested into the builds. I just know /sd benefits more from what you invest in it as you level.this week, i've gotten a fm/sd scrapper to level 33 and a Kat/regen scrapper to 34. So far they've both been amazing. With the fm/sd I can run into +2/3 mobs and drop them in a short amount of time, but I feel weak at times. With my Kat/regen I feel unstoppable, but i'm not puuting out the damage i'd like to be. Please help me decide which build to continue leveling.
