I think testing in the teens will be the biggest test to see if the whole thing will be a failure or not. Thats usually point where my doms get stuck. The few I do have above 20 got their due to double xp weekends or thru lvling with sgmates. Solo there was just no way I could do it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's actually why my primary stress test is going to be at 18, in an arc I know is going to give me fits to actually run through (having done it on a Thug/Poison and a Bot/Storm before and being thoroughly irritated). -

IM ok with the Piggy Backing I don't mind Sharing, Maybe I will try out Ice/Elec too I just like Ice Control for Slip And Slide Action, plus I mainly like Icey Assault for The Sword Ability =)
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, I'm with you there, homey.
I've got an Ice/Elec and a Mind/Ice. I just don't have that many concepts that run into straight flavors (so to speak) that aren't Fire, for some reason. That I actually like and stick with, at any rate.
I'm in love with the name/look on my Ice/Elec (Cryovolt!), so I'm sort of attached there. Same deal with my Mind/Ice (Overqueen - a tribute to B-movie villainesses everywhere). Have yet to get an Ice/Ice with that sort of staying power, though...
If I do, though, I suppose I could always alt it on another server. >> -
Actually, I was specifically thinking of my Psi/Men blaster in the end there, in relation to Psi-Resistant EBs. I really do not look forward to running into one of those on her, because I know I'm pretty well screwed in that situation. >.> Even with the higher ranged damage modifier and Defiance backing me up.

Oh yes and TF2's forums are abuzz with plenty of controversy as to what Valve did on the Sniper - Spy Update >_<

What specifically? >.>
By having the 'Spy' update sneak in (like, say... A SPY!)? Or something I missed? -

It would be interesting to for people to test how Dom's do now in comparison to Fire/Rad and Fire/Kin controllers, in later game performance and solobility.
Since one of the goals is to decrease the perceived gap in Dom vs. Controller performance. I'm not yet seeing where these changes will do that.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are a lot more than just fire/rads and fire/kins, but you are right it would be important to compare a "damage dom" vs a "damage troller".
That said, I believe such comparisons are pointless considering doms and trollers have about as much in common as tankers and stalkers. Comparing doms to blasters makes a lot more sense to me.
I sort of wish Castle would revise his list because dom vs troller viability is a pipedream unless doms start getting force multiplying sets in i15...
[/ QUOTE ]
Hell, compare all three. Why not? It just means more time actually testing.
I also think it'd be important to test at a variety of level-brackets, as well, instead of just the level cap. Particularly at major cut-off ponts (15, 30, 50; This is just my opinion) to determine about where the curve sits and how big of a curve it is. Or if it's a ramp, instead of a curve.
Then again, I have this hugely massive complex in regards to testing things in an empirical fashion. -

there's a couple CoT bosses post 40 that i've run into (mage bosses) that had 50% smashing resistance
[/ QUOTE ]
Technically a different story; Smash gets a bad rep for resistance, too, and I do believe the few things that do resist it hard... also resist Lethal just as hard, though in some cases a bit less.
However, for some reason, Super Strength is considered an awesome farming set for brutes, and it does almost entirely Smashing damage. And, in a similar note, I've seen people achieve ridiculously high damage numbers with Knockout Blow, on targets that should by all rights be fairly resistant to Smashing damage (Requiem and Romulus come to mind).
Not to downplay the resistance woes of Smashing (or to an extent Lethal), as they are fairly prevalent. But they're frequently over-stated.
Doesn't mean they don't suck in the few cases they're actually justified, though (lookin' at you, Miss Liberty). -
Considering some of the stuff I've done with my Dark/Psi defender, I'd have to say that 25% resistance is outright laughable. I cringe every time I'm expected to do missions with Council/5th Column, Arachnos, or Banished Pantheon with her because even with Tar Patch, it's just plain ridiculous how hard my stuff gets resisted.
I've been on the end of the resistance shaft when it comes to certain enemy groups, so I can sort of understand what you mean, but it's by far not the most damaging thing ever.
Even heavily lethal-resistant EBs, I've torn through on my Scrappers. It just takes me a while longer then I normally could otherwise, and I'm usually gasping for breath at the end of it. Often times, it can be a closer thing then I'd like. I don't doubt, however, that I could likely achieve the same feat on a Blaster or Defender (in the case of the defender, eventually; Probably after I stop crying about the prospect).
Psi-resistant EB, though? Screw that, I'd rather go solo Tyrant with an empty Insp tray. -
Hmm. For social work, I'm not sure we should throw you a party. I imagine at this point, people are one of the last things you want to deal with!
Instead, here's a hug. *Hoog.* -
Ya'll gotta get faster on the draw. Especially you, PK! Get yo' head in da game!

I also recommend you all try playing a couple of characters from 1-50 without any dev tricks, just as a normal player, to see how grindy things are. Then go on a couple of farm missions with some friends and see how fun the leveling can be in comparison.
[/ QUOTE ]
I level all my characters 'without any dev tricks'. I have only four 50's to show for it, but those 50s mean far more to me than any 50 I could have gotten sitting in a farm with my thumb up my [censored]. If you honestly think the game is grindy, by all means give Lineage II a try. CoH's XP curve makes Lineage II's look like a sheer cliff.
[/ QUOTE ]
One last time...the whole OP was directed AT THE DEVS. That includes the PS. Since when can players invoke dev tricks? And by dev tricks I was referring to auto-leveling, extra powers, free influence, etc. All the stuff they do to test random things but fails to give an accurate portrayal of the actual gameplay.
I want the devs now to buff up reading comprehension in the next patch.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're assuming that none of the developers also play the game to have fun, or that they almost exclusively rely on 'dev tricks' to break their own game.
Are you aware of what assumption makes you...?
Merely curious.
EDIT: And if one flat-out told you he did play the game 'honest', would you even believe them? -
Fair enough there, but if Lethal was near as bad off as people claim it is, then Scrappers wouldn't be doing nearly as hot as they are.
It's frequently over-stated. -

The imbalance is off-set by the common salvage going for much more now because it cannot be purchased via tickets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Incorrect, dear sir, as for a mere 8 tickets you can roll on either the Arcane or Tech salvage tables and generate as much as you want, across all level ranges, regardless of your actual level.
To buffet a counter argument I can forsee coming, I'll annotate in that while it is technically impossible to get specific salvage in one shot with the ticket system, you can generate at least 5-10 rolls from one mission that will most likely get you the exact salvage you want as long as you're aware of the level range it drops in. -

Comedy gold, dear sir. 8/10, not enough unreasonable rage. Work on that.
EDIT: And I've got ~4 years experience in both respective games, and am a notable fan of Asian MMOs where 'grindfest' became a policy then a mission statement. This game is probably the least grindtastic game I've come across. -

...Dude, an RPers are evil thread.
When was the last time we had one of these? Holy crap. -
It's a common suggestion, with a common answer:
Graphical and code-base engine re-designs suck in both the time/man-hour factor, and in the cost factor. They have mentioned that they were looking at the feasibility of a graphical increase in an off-handed fashion, but I don't think they've ever stated, definatively, that they were going to do it.
That, and the fact that Co* doesn't require a high-end computer has been a major selling point for a lot of players, and I'm not sure how many we would lose because they didn't feel it worth the expense to update their machine just for one game. I won't even speculate on those figures.
Somehow get the feeling that this thread isn't long for this world, either, as it soooort of skirts the edges on 'direct comparison/contrast' that is taboo on the forums. -
I'm mixed on feelings of a PJC, specifically in relation to Customer Service, as I'm not really sure it's all that necessary. I'm very certain that they have Senior CS reps that are specifically paid to do these kinds of reviews already, and this just sounds like more bureaucracy then is really necessary for something that is (for all intents and purposes) a minor part of the greater gaming entity*.
If it were broadened and could actually act as a second (unpaid) community management section, I'm... still mostly mixed on that, honestly, because a lot of the things brought up here are exactly some of the things that actually happens to the community-reps in EVE. They're also locked to the location of the main studio (Iceland; If you're not an Icelandic citizen, you can't join their rep board), out of necessity of actually sitting down and talking with the developers about various issues that are better done in a real-time dialogue then over a board. Which smacks heavily of favoritism in and of itself.
*(DISCLAIMER: Don't get me wrong, here. I know exactly how important characters can get to people, and the kinds of attachment we can make with what should just be a bunch of pixels and data bits in a giant spreadsheet, and I do not mean to come off as if I am downplaying these sentimental attachments. But they're just that - sentimental. And we can't focus on that sort of thing and still be talking about maintaining some semblance of 'business sense' and 'impartiality'.) -

So much for "exotic" damage type when robots have huge resistance on them. The thing with Psi and Toxic is that the mob either has a lot of resistance against them or very very little (or nothing).
And poor Lethal....
[/ QUOTE ]
I still don't get why people say 'poor lethal'.
Considering that a large portion of Scrapper primaries (Claws, Broadsword, Dual Blades, Katana, Spines*) do Lethal damage and most people state that Scrappers solo exceptionally well, often to the point of being broken (Werner, BillZBubba, Shredmonkey [Though I somehow think Shred's DM, isn't he?])...
We can reasonably conclude that Lethal damage is fine, it's the poor mobs you should be feeling sorry for. >.>
EDIT: Oops, forgot my *. Spines actually does most of it's damage as Lethal, with only a portion actually coming up as Toxic, usually as a DoT added onto the damage. -
So I'm just being crazy with my 'lolisdizgoin'towurk' mentality. Awesome. :3
I had fully intended to be a melee-[censored], too, so that's a load off my mind. Phew!
We now return you to your thread already in progress. -
Piggy-backing off this one (sorry, Necrossis!), but what's the general opinion on Ice/Elec? Am I going to end up as crazy as I feel like I'm going to as far as synergy goes?
Re: Icy Assault - You definately need to consider EndRedux for it, but it shouldn't be totally absurd as long as you're careful about when you use what attacks. When possible, only finish foes off with the attack that's the most end-efficient for how much health they have left, don't use AoEs when your ST attacks will be more viable, etc. Ice Control, on contrast, isn't near as bad, but the same general logic applies. -
Well, they did also add in Recharge Intensive Pet sets with copious amounts of recharge, and usually with a Recharge bonus on top of that. It's still possible to perma Decoys, it just requires a bit more work.
Phantasm shouldn't need to be made especially permanent anymore, either. It should be permanent until it gets killed (Does it take damage still? I can never remember if it's Phantasm or the Decoys that are immune to damage), or you leave the zone. Or I've never had my Fire Imps ditch me unless they didn't have a choice in the matter (stupid Freak Tanks).
This also does, I do believe, effect Volt Sentinel and Gun Drone, as I'm pretty sure summoning a new one now causes the old one to despawn. -
I honestly don't think they'd remove Chilling Embrace. They kept Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom in Dark Armor, after all.
I'm also not sure they'd remove the Tanker version of Frozen Aura - they might, but you also have to remember that they did keep Thunder Strike and Spine Burst in their respective sets as well.
With Proliferation, the idea seems to be to change as absolutely little as humanly possible, and not replace it with anything even more broken. I think giving Ice Melee two holds would qualify there, especially since 'Bitter Freezing Touch' reads more like 'Seismic Smash', and even in Stone Melee it was the only one in the set. Infact, barring Ice Blast, there aren't any sets that contain two holds... and one of those holds was a low-damage/duration one. Freezing Touch is already close enough to Seismic Smash at is is.
In other words, it sounded like you changed way more then they're likely to when they consider the proliferation.
EDIT: Changed a point to something more accurate; Freezing Aura is an AoE attack with a Mez component. Shockwave is just a long-range cone. My real end point for that is that they tend to reduce AoE damage in Melee sets for stalkers, but not outright eliminate it, or we wouldn't see Spine Burst or Thunder Strike in their respective sets. -
Damage mathz.
Detailing why Psychic Shockwave, as it is now, is horrifically overpowered for Dominators, and why I'm not exactly surprised it may (or may not) get changed in the future. >.> -
Blargh. *Faceplants into a mug of coffee.*
Been doing math all day, and I'm sort of :E about it at this point. Still, it was worth at least thinking about. And it's mostly over now, yay.
