Devs are hoping CoS is going to be available for open beta in November. Perfect timing.

Quote:... the fact that it's browser based has been putting me off, I've had bad experiences with browser based games in the past.
I was in 2 minds about it being a browser game but again, the gameplay on the mmohuts review looks great so initially I am taking a punt with it. I hope it turns out to be what it can. -
I have no idea. If it is then that could be why I like it. I would be interested to know if anybody could verify if it is by former CoH players. Or if it isn't and what actually is. Some of the lore reminded me a little of CoH but also of other, lesser games too.

For 2 weeks - since black Friday - I have been grieving and moping and depressed at the thought of losing this beloved game.
In those 2 weeks I have been actively promoting our plight to many as well as engaging in the preservation activities. Also I have been looking for a replacement should our efforts come to naught.
I think I have found where I will be going. I have watched dozens of reviews and played 20 or so trials, none of which came close to CoH. Then I saw a review of City of Steam on mmohuts.com.
I was so impressed with the review that I joined CoS and purchased a beta key. It is the only game I have found to be the beginnings of a match to CoH. It is steam-punk based and appears to be unlike the generic tripe which is fantasy. The missions are instance based but hey, so is much of CoH.
If you haven't found a sanctuary yet maybe this is up your street.
If we can #SaveCoH I will have 2 homes. -
You have to kill a number of shivans for the giant one to appear. If the shivans weren't spawning that is a problem - I encountered a short wait for them to spawn previously.

The attendance was fantastic today and it looks like the world was watching. For with the world watching it saw a great unity of players congregating to appreciate the game we have loved for so long, and for some - not so long. They watched the infantile chat responses and trolling. They watched the expletives adorning chat. They watched players using the ignore feature as a threat. Frankly, today was the first time ever I have felt embarrassed to be associated with the game. I stuck it out though, I'm in this as much as anyone. One of the most important days of our games' life and it was like somebody had spilled a tub of jerks again. I hope it doesn't do too much damage but negative reports have already been springing up.
The control freaks were out too. "Turn off all powers and dismiss all pets." came the demand. And what's this ..""nah nah is holding a protest sign blah .. and "nah nah should be holding a torch blah .." Let me remind you control freaks, while you were popping in today for a couple of hours, I and many others have been protesting with the 'Protest' emote for 7 days for long hours. I will continue with that. Also, I paid good money to use a mastermind, when you pay for my account tell me what to do with my powers. If your system cannot handle it - "GET A NEW ONE THAT CAN" - and stop blaming my AT for the poor performance of your inadequate computer.
That said - the overall response has been fantastic and we all feel , it seems, that the message got out to the majority of our audience. -
Quote:Not at all, I find you very entertaining and usually realistic. Where I come from "kid" is used as a term of endearment, I could just as easily written chuck, me dear, matey - all would have a similar meaning of endearment. As I say - the world isn't always as you it.Kid? Are you trying to slyly insult me? What the hell is wrong with you?
We have another, it is the word for a male common fowl but it only shows stars when I write it - but I can assure you it is also a local term of endearment and has been for centuries. -
Oh Jayboh, Jayboh. Remember the beginning of the video, he is handing money over fist for a product and service? I too have handed money over fist for CoH, for the game, for the extras, for the up time. Now the people I have handed all this money to have decided that they have had enough of my money and they want their ball back. I say ok, I will never risk playing ball with you again in that case. Boycott? Don't be fooled into thinking all people are as you blindly see them. I don't care what people want to boycott. My own principles will prevent me from making bad decisions with NCSoft in the future. The world isn't always as you see it kid.

Great review and nobody can take a way that it looks like a good game, Sadly NC own it so I will never get to see it on principle.
Edit - But y'know, if we can save CoH maybe I will get to play GW2. -
I like the idea of a Gold account tier to be added. I also think the VIP access should be £5 per month or the $ equivalent which I would have no hesitation in paying if only for access to incarnates. As it is I only buy PP's when I need them now. With a reduced VIP basic tier I could fully agree with making more stuff available on the market and putting the tier 9 rewards in Gold tier and not VIP. Yes many people would pay more but I think that many, many more people would pay that £5/$equivalent to access incarnates. Other account stuff could be monetized too. Also, a more direct approach to the RMT spammers should be implemented. They encourage players to skip the content thereby depopulating the main game. With that in mind I would reduce the rewards from AE or limit them. But mainly I think 50,000 £5/$7 would bring in more than 2,000 £20/$30.

Well, I installed it to try it out again.
The first thing it wanted me to do was lower my security, so I did the requirement. Then it still would not start. The furthest I got into it was the yes or no option to link any existing account. On clicking no the game got no further.
Wow - even the set up is coq'd.
Can't say I didn't try but my initial instinct was correct - I neither trust it nor particularly want it given my past experience. What a shambles. -

No problem - I enjoy the game whatever the level. I roll alts for fun not because it is a chore. Starting from scratch is fine.

Any questions I had about CO were answered during a trial of it when it went F2P. The game is clunky, the UI is not friendly, the character creation is busy, the in game chat was filled with obscenity and it has little play-a-bility in comparison to COH. So our game may be older but, "IMO", it is worlds apart and better in every way. Each to their own.

Although I would like to say yes, I cannot justify that the game is worth it to me.
I would happily pay £5 per month, or whatever it equates to in Dollars, for full access to VIP. That's what it is worth to me. Since going F2P Forever (Korean version of forever) I have bought Paragon Points and it has sufficed nicely.
Having said that I have also made it known that I can pledge £1k to enable the game to keep going on a crowd funded take over. (subject to terms) -
Personally; I will be going anywhere except NCsoft or Perfect World Entertainment.
I am toying with SWTOR right now but it seems a grind so I may not stay there. Who knows in the future.
Maybe I will just finish the decorating? -
Limitless gratitude to your good selves for all the work you have put into this invaluable resource.
I am able to offer a pledge.
Good luck in attaining the rights so we can continue our fun. I will watch the boards.
