Quote:We can create a fourth class, just for you.Something must be wrong here.
I don't think I've ever been in a group that is considered "Normal".
Also, in before the "people just want a solo incarnate path that's as fast as the trial path." Because that's not the case at all. I think a third of the pace is more than fair, and it's not what we have now. -
People want a reasonable pace. Yes, the rate today will be better than it was yesterday, but it's not at all reasonable in comparison to the trial rate.
People were asking for a solo path to incarnate that wouldn't take them a year to do. -
Quote:But you're asking for powersets to be proliferated to an AT that doesn't get those sets. And it's not so simple to just change the AT mods to port these sets in. This would affect all of the melee attacks that these ATs already get. Also, this can create some REALLY gimped characters. It is not about need, it is about having as many powersets to choose from as possible.
I would like to see more powerset proliferation.
Take Storm Summoning, where your best hope of staying alive in melee range is Hurricane - which would knock enemies away from you meaning that you'd have to chase them to hit them with your attacks.
Or how about Thermal, which has no sort of PBAoE debuff to keep you alive in melee range?
Basically, there are some sets that work well for this type of character, and others where it would be horrible. Which is why it makes more sense to make this a new AT, and only bring over the sets where you'd have some sort of synergy. -
I will assume that you are asking for Carp Melee/Carp Armor, and strongly agree with your assessment that this is something that the game needs.
-
Of course, it is still a nice cone attack, so even if it's secondary effects are "wasted", it's still a good power.
-
But each one gets only one, maybe two melee attacks. And they're about 75% as effective as Tanker attacks. Except for Thunderstrike, which for some reason does more damage than the Tanker version.

Quote:If you play at off-times, you will make progress on incarnate stuff. However, you will make it at a SIGNIFICANTLY slower pace than running even a single iTrial that week.On what server and play schedule, though? I know on Pinnacle, trials happen (very nearly exclusively) in the evenings, and I have heard complaints about such timing on the channels. I am very, VERY excited to be able to make any sort of progress on my 50s while playing in the mornings.
But this from the one who purposely avoids both beta server and beta forums prior to a big release like this, so what do I know? -

Invincibility gives TYPED defense against Smashing, Lethal, Energy, Neg Energy, Fire, and Cold damage. It does NOT give positional defense.
As such, the Lethal part will stack with the lethal part of Guarded Spin, but the melee defense will likely get lost.
The game checks your highest Defense against a given attack, and uses only that value to see if you block it. So if you've got 20% Lethal Defense, 15% Fire Defense, and 10% Melee Defense, and get attacked by a Fire/Lethal/Melee attack, you'll use only the 20% Lethal Defense value.
HOWEVER, if you get attacked by a Smashing/Energy/Melee attack, then you'd use the 10% Melee value, so it can be of some use. -
Because they have ranged primary/secondary damage powersets, and have REALLY poor melee damage mods.
Now, making a new AT that is buff/debuff and melee damage would be okay (and I would honestly like this a lot). But just giving Defenders and Corruptors a melee damage set isn't as easy as you think. -
Quote:THAT'S what it is! Thanks! Couldn't remember that for the life of me.Sentinel is what you want, ShadowMoka.

Off topic: Dat avatar
The avatar is actually SeriousBLiz's drawing of what I look like when I'm mischievous, and arranging for Traegus to get a sombrero and birthday song in public. -
I also belive that there is a character export tool available on one of the CoHTitan sites. You can basically pull existing character data off to put into Mid's.

Quote:I did say "likely".Since I won't be using the trials, that means I'm not a hardcore farmer and my data points should be used to determine speed of content, right?
The point is more that you're going to have three basic groups running the solo incarnate content.
1) "Hardcore" runners, who will be running it as much as possible, even so much as going through only the easiest content that gives the best rewards/time.
2) "Normal" players that don't have the time or inclination to do the trials, but will be running through all of the content, regardless of reward speed.
3) "Casual" players who may occasionally go into Dark Astoria, but won't do it every day or even week.
Now, the "Normal" faction is a tough one to define, since you're going to have players that only play a few days a week, or also have people that play every day, but probably wouldn't be considered hardcore players. But that is the group that you should be looking to balance it around.
If that group is taking months to achieve what trial runners can do in a day, then the progress rate is too slow. If the hardcore farmers can do it in a week, then it's still slower than the trials, though. -

I really can't wait for this meme to die. Most memes I like, and am okay with, but this one lost its humor a long time ago.

Quote:Hardcore farmers should not be used to determine a speed for content meant for normal players. Hardcore farmers will likely still be using the trials, anyways. I do think that starting a little low, and then bumping up is better than the other way around. My problem is that the Devs tend to be a lot slower to bump things up when they need it than they should be.Bill is probably right that the drop rate for soloists on the Incarnate path is too low. But if I were a Dev, I would most definitely not bump it up based on data from Beta but wait to see what the hard core farmers can do with the current rate on Live before bumping it up to something more reasonable.
GG ignores numbers and just pokes an angry bees nest in this regard. -
Quote:Well, I was thinking that they'd be the zone that the vendor is in.That's what I was thinking - but there's no clue as to which zone we should use them in
Thanks to Thirty-Seven for looking into getting these:
All of the numbers are:
Nova: 56-925, 73-783, 87-878
UG Nova: 878-84
Imperial: 25-378, 53-276, 62-397
UG Imp.: 844-45
Neutropolis: 36-287, 48-273, 73-223
UG Neu.: 583-43, 782-63
Removing the UG ones, that leaves use with three vendors in each zone, each one containing 5 digits. Now, it could just be the last three digits, or maybe it's something like 925-56 = 869 for the first one. Not sure. -
Could the vendors be referencing some x-y-z coordinates somehow? Like, telling you where to go to find some hidden room or something?

Quote:But if I have to make assumptions like that, then what's the point of having the number there in the first place? Why not just make the assumption up front of how much my character weighs? The calculation is based on the average density on human flesh. It's just a guideline, multiply it by the ratio of lead/flesh (approx 10, I quess) if you want a number for your lead character.
If I want to roleplay the character as a 4-foot tall girl who weighs 800 pounds because she's made of some superdense material, there's nothing stopping me from saying that in the bio.
Basically, right now you can make a character weigh whatever you want, and the game doesn't disagree. If this suggestion were implemented, I could make the character weigh whatever I want, but it might be in direct contrast to what the game is telling me. Why would that system be better? -
Quote:How would the character creator know if my character is supposed to be made out of granite or lead, or if I have hollow bones like a bird, affecting the total?I think the character creation interface should have a numeric feedback on height and weight. It should be visible on body creation and while adjusting sliders.
That way I could have realistic stats in my character bios. I know I can ask something like seven friends, remove the lowest and highest estimate, and average the remaining. But I think that most people have more trouble estimating the mass of a computer generated human than an actual human.
Wouldn't it just be easier to put in your own weight for what you THINK it should be? -
Not trying to say that your goal isn't a good one, but your evidence is faulty to a certain extent.
The servers have been upgraded several times since the game came out. What might have once pushed a server to red or even to lock it out might now only register a green dot. So that's not a good measure of overall population, just relative.
Edit -> Also, while getting more people into CoH would be a good thing, what we'd really want is to get more subscribers. Basically, we want them to give the game money, if truth be told, as that funds development. As such, I don't know how much giving free points away will help with that kind of end-goal, but I'm not opposed to your idea, as long as they are one-time things, and can't be farmed. -
