  1. I almost feel bad for the guy playing. Well, except he is playing, and I am watching.

Hide would probably be replaced with some other stealth power with different numbers like Energy Cloak or Cloak of Darkness.

It would likely also lose Smoke Flash due to the loss of synergy with Hide and the fact that Placate has very limited utility for scrappers. I'm not sure what would replace Caltrops or Smoke Flash, but the presence of the Weapon Mastery pool on Scrappers limits the options considerably.

Don't get me wrong, Scrapper's my favorite AT, and I'd love to see a set like Ninjitsu on scrappers. But I think the actual Ninjitsu set would lose much of its flavor in the porting.

Very good answer, and one I can also respect. The thing with Nin is it is such a great fit for Martial Arts themes. The only really good fit now is SR, and that is still not so well meshed with Natural origin characters. WP is pretty good, but just still doesn't quite make it for me. For one Fast healing should have been Dull Pain because that would have fit the whole Will Power theme better.

Nin may need to see some changes, but I trust the devs could find the right changes if they were willing to look for them.

Closed betas were intended, among other things, to explicitly deal with that sort of thing. Closed beta testers are explicitly told, among other things, that they may be asked to test things that are not going to be released for an indeterminate time for any reason at all, and their testing of it should not imply the devs intend to release it immediately, or even at all ever.
I think that is part of the problem with VIP beta. It is really unclear if it is Closed or just restricted.

The times that I have been on the outside of closed beta I still acknowledged that it works better. Not just with the flow of information out, but it allows for better flow of information back into paragon also. In other words there was less crap posted and chatted about in the closed betas. I say this knowing it is possible that I may not be in future closed beta testing of this game that I love so much.

I think the bigger problem is how much things run. Now I have to admit it is a huge ego boost when a GM runs from my solo scrapper, that makes it no less annoying.

Certain Mobs just should not run. As in Boss and higher mobs should not run. Crap just runs too much, and it hurts the melee ATs the most. Scrappers and Stalkers in particular. Though things do seem to run more from my scrappers than my stalkers.

  9. Cat is out of the bag now, might as well put it back up. I really would have loved to have seen the costumes. :/

  11. I can promise I will purchase every melee set that is placed on the market. I will purchase every melee weapon pack placed on the market. And if they are every smart enough to sell alternate melee animations, I will also buy those.

So, Melee will ALWAYS get my money, and I bet I am not alone in that.

I however did not purchase any of the non-melee items. Just is what it is, as I only play melee toons (well there was the one blaster).

The way I see it is Melee stuff, and Costumes are easy (not work wise) money for Paragon.

At this point I think it would be a mistake to increase anything else about Stalkers.

I think only time will tell, but I think in the next "Most Popular AT" release Scrappers will no longer be at the top.

I also still would like to see scrappers get something unique, but my flame protection is wearing thin.

    • Staff Fighting was opened on the beta earlier than Beast Mastery.
    • Staff Fighting was acknowledged by the majority of testers on the VIP beta as being clearly ready for release outside of minor FX issues as early as the end of January, as evidenced by testing data across all level ranges on the VIP beta servers, including Incarnate content. There were complaints about the set's sound effects, which were addressed, and there was an animation bug involving Assassin Strike on Staff Stalkers, which was addressed.
    • Beast Mastery, in contrast, was widely acknowledged to be underperforming by a substantial percentage of the testers who were actually skillful Mastermind players and who were not too busy squeeing over the pets' appearance to actually pay attention to the numbers. Chief among the set's acknowledged issues were the fact that none of the six pets in the set have gapless attack chains (in fact, all six have large gaps), and the fact that there was an observed correlation between Beast Mastery's introduction to the beta servers and a sudden significant degradation in pet AI performance which affected all Mastermind primaries.
    • The fact that the introduction of Beast Mastery to the VIP beta servers exposed a bug causing pets - Mastermind pets, Lore pets, Controller pets, any kind of pets - to uncontrollably charge mission and/or trial bosses while ignoring mastermind pet commands, including stay/heel, (most noticeable in various phases of the Underground trial, and also with Marauder at Lambda Sector, but it manifests in non-Incarnate content as well) should have been an absolute show-stopper to the set's release; there is no universe I am aware of in which an update that fundamentally breaks the functionality of one archetype and significantly inhibits the damage-dealing functionality of two other archetypes should have been considered acceptable.
    • Nonetheless, Beast Mastery was released to the live servers without addressing any of its problems, in the midst of a continuous wave (which is still ongoing) of new Paragon Market items obsessively using the four-legged animation rig first introduced by the German Shepherd vanity pet. As of right now, April 3, 2012, all of the above mentioned issues, which were identified on the VIP beta in February, are still present on the live servers.
    • We are then told that the timing of the release of Beast Mastery - which should not have been pushed live in this state - is the primary reason that Staff Fighting has not been released to the live servers, because "if we release too many Powersets too quickly, it could be seen as a grab at your Paragon Points, and subsequently, your money." However, either the development team apparently does not consider a black wolf vanity pet that is documented to require, on average, the purchase of over one hundred dollars in Super Packs to be a grab at our Paragon Points, or that excuse is patently devoid of truth.

Yup, this pretty much covers it.

Unless someone is keeping minutes at the gaming cons I attend, nope... Man I hope no one is taking notes of the things said and done at some of those Cons. Now, if you want to know how the majority of this community feels about him, that is not hard to find.

Saying that I know how people feel about Jack is a lot different than listing the names of RL friends who work in the gaming industry.

See, I am not even talking about just in the MMO and Video Gaming community. Glad you didn't and don't have an issue with him, just don't expect that view to be shared.

That is not to say that I think the ATIO procs needs to be nerfed, just that the others need to be brought in line with the benefit that Stalkers and Brutes get from theirs. From what I hear the MM proc is worthless.

As for survivability, Soft cap is soft cap, the other three melee ATs have more HPs to cover the hits that do make it through, but as of late I have seen a few well built stalkers with more HPs than some of the crappy scrapper builds that are running around.

I am having fun on stalkers now, and I see more and more of them in the game. This to me is a good thing. That being said, I have only played Stalkers with defensive sets, and will only. My concept of the AT is of one that is fast and agile, not tough.

I plan to make a Staff/EA scrapper, but I think I am also going to make a Staff/Nin stalker.

    StJ/SD

Wow, I have taken 3 or 4 other toons to 50 since I made this one. I am not even sure what his final build was. I will see if I can dig it up and post what I ended up with.
  19. Careful there, Arcanaville has quite the fan following on these boards. There are many who would step in to defend her honor.

As for Jack, he showed his true colors not only as a developer, but as a person after the CoX IP was sold. I have a lot of hard feelings towards him, and I am not alone in the gaming community. I don't mean just this community either.

Ok then, I am ticked. I currently have no life. I sit at home, unable to talk and wait to go to radiation every day. Yup, I was really hoping to make a new staff fighting character today. Even grown ups can get frustrated and annoyed at games. Tuesday is my favorite day of the week, most Tuesdays there is something exciting. The last few there has been nothing exciting to me. I fully accept that these pets may be exciting to someone, just not me.

I also agree that Staff Melee was ready to go before BM was even put pack on the beta server. I tested it at the low, mid, and end level game, and left loads of feed back. As far as anyone one who was testing was concerned it was ready to go, with the exception of maybe sound. Oh, there was also an animation issue with AS out of hide.

Compare that to the feedback in the BM thread. Yeah......

Like many have said, this is their sand box that we are playing in. However we buy the sand for them. As customers we always have the right to complain, I am not going to go so far as to say we are correct, but we still have that right. Shoot, I am even willing to admit that a large portion of my complaints are irrational as of late.

I also want to agree with many others. If you post a schedule of what is going to be released, a lot of this angst could be avoided.

Top it all off with Paragon Studio's lack of concrete release dates = people are pretty pissed we're getting the 5th and 6th blatant shelling of the four-legged rig niche instead of stuff MORE people want, aka Staff Fighting.
This sums it up very well. Like Darth I have a bit of rage today.
  22. Points saved again this week. There have been a host of things we have said we would pay for. Dang take a look at the alternate animation thread.

You guys really need to have a talk with the marketing department. You KNOW what we want to give you money for. Sure some players will buy these, but I bet more would have bought staff melee, alternate animations for power sets, back packs, quivers, and a host of other costume options. A vanity pet that does nothing is just well, not worth it to me in any way, shape, or form.

Its strange to me, because it means many players would rather be ignored than corrected; its rare the devs pay significant attention to a post that starts off asserting the devs think something they don't, and try to draw a conclusion from that false premise. Its not like any player seems to enjoy being put in that position; I don't know why anyone would think the devs would be any different.
What I can say for sure is that I really like Synapse and the work he does. I like him far better than anyone who has come before him. Oddly, I trust him to do what is right for the melee ATs. I do feel that if he sees a problem with scrappers in the future that he will work towards fixing it.
  24. Here is what every stalker player should worry about at this point "Stalkers are working a little better than intended, they may see some small tweaks." J/K

Stalkers are a force to be reckoned with now that is for sure. They are far more fun than any incarnation before.

    Scrappers 80% Resist Cap
    Stalkers 75% Resist Cap

One thing that has bothered me is the tough scrappers have the same max resist cap as all the squishies. Not to the point of caring to much mind you.

But then it helps going with the reverse order in terms of damage (though that will be subjective on lots of factors...AOE vs ST, DPS, Burst, keeping enemies close for the AOEs and ST, specific sets that just advantage specific AT mechanics).

And there you go. The best makeover a Scrapper can get! 80% Resist Cap!
With how much more powerful Defense is than Resist, I am not sure that it would even matter. :/ Please note that that is very hard for me to admit, because I fought tooth and nail for years saying that not every set needed to be built for Defense.
