  1. I'm jus trying to figure out what accomplishments our players have actually done...

Until Issue 10 I can't see anything having changed....the streets are filled with thugs...the big pile of jelly is still there, just hiding at first....the Rikti haven't moved position...even though they're supposed to be a real threat.

I've just had the thought....they should have more random-timed, un-announced events where certain villain groups make forays into areas they don't usually. Lke the Rikti invasion, or the Rulaaru appearances all over the city. Just have them pop up as if making an assault in different zones once every few days, or once a week, or something...

It would add a random element to the oh-so-structured gameplay...
  2. I didn't see anyone say there wouldn't be any new powersets, just ATs...
  3. I'm expecting 35-45 too, or at least 35-42...

I imagine there'll also be an array of additions to the inventions, since I'd imagine the designers and developers would be eager to put stuff in now that their initial invention content will be working, balanced and tested (in theory! in theory!).

Time for a space shuttle appearance...

Wow... I just discovered that this hasn't been released as a movie yet (I live in Japan - we are always quite a bit behind re. new releases. I operated on the assumption folks had actually SEEN this movie)... I googled... I yahoo-searched... I IMBd'd... the ONLY footage I could find was a gamepolitics.com article, and a YouTube clip.

Isn't the kneejerk reaction to something we haven't seen a little premature?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps. I await the actual movie before fomulating any carved in stone opinions. However, I find it difficult to even imagine a debate/documentary breaking from the theme of its trailer (and it's sensational naming) to suddenly present itself as even-handed.

So in conclusion, having never seen the actual feature, I can pass no judgement, but I am certainly skeptical.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The trailer in itself is inflammatory and shows a disgustingly twisted one-sided view, and rather than presenting a possibly interesting debate with intelligent discourse, just shows a bunch of hate-propaganda. If I created a trailer that did the same thing about other subjects, for instance religion, it would probably be banned and deleted.

I know that video games aren't on the same level as religion, after all video games are real....

Actually, someone with some decent editing skills splice in Superman from Superman the game in place of Statesman and send it back asking for their opinion...

    "Moral Combat"

***Warning: The following link has swearing in it, most noticeably the f-word***

    Here's Another

One thing that these people don't seem to have taken into account is that we have FAR more access to media these days then ever before. In fact, its pushed on us as much as possible in order to push adverts on us.

The whole thing reminds me of how my brother often reacts. I tell him about the drunk fights that happen outside nightclubs in a nearby town and because that is ALL he hears about his belief is that I live near a warzone.

The simple fact is that I don't tell him about the thousands of people who have good fun nights out and don't get into trouble, because they aren't stories to talk about!

What I want to do is start a movement about how violence against video games is a desperate attempt to get kids onto the streets rather than safe in their homes.

I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I truly feel for you. The imagery is unfair and the commentary with it out of context. Suffice to say you have my support and I hope you get to have any 'City of...' footage pulled from what is billed, essentially, as an anti-video-game propaganda movie.
  8. Ohh....but then I'd whine about people crying over it...

Now that Faultline is a city zone, it comes with a Trainer (Mirror Spirit), a hospital, stores, and a Reputation contact.

    And hot tubs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Seriously - I'm going to be wasting a few weeks just sitting in those tubs. They're SO comfortable, especially with the new sitting emotes. I'd just like to be able to use the invent emote and sit in the tub at the same time...I'd be set for a month!
  10. Storyline, closely followed by costumes. Although its probably the sheer amount of poor designs I've seen that puts costumes in second place.

I like the storylines but I do think they lack alot at the earlier levels, especially in CoH. There needs to be more in the way of storylines that mean something.

We have 'dead' contacts already so why not make them disappear to players once they are done with them? You can easily explain it in the simplest way by just saying that the spirit won't appear to that player any more and barring you from those missions once you've done them, and they must be solo-able.

They have a pretty long range of missions and stories now, so why not put some 'destructible' stories/contacts in?

Heh, I don't say either. Neither of them are normally used terms in England. Actually I've always found them both to be silly words.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, remember that, for many Americans, especially nerdy Americans, our #1 exposure to English culture is Monty Python. So we kind of expect you to prefer silly words.

Out of curiosity, what term do you use for sugary carbonated non-alcoholic beverages? SCNABs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

We usually use the name of the product or manufacturer, like Coke, Pepsi, Lucozade, Fanta or just the generic term 'drink'.

eg. 'Get a drink from the fridge'

I notice alot of US peeps talk about drinks we just don't have or generally drink over here. Kool Aid and the like... (whatever that is - I only know it from a large jug-thing that appears in Family Guy)

I have a friend that is a High School teacher, I have heard her complain that she receives Papers from student written in "texting short hand".

    [/ QUOTE ]

People seriously do this?!? I'd fail someone instantly for this. Perhaps give one warning, but after that...

That's disgusting, I mean really disgusting. Wow, I'm really bent out of shape about it
  14. Perhaps 'mainstream' is too strong a word. Unfortunately (don't forget I'm in the 'anti-toon' camp) it has become common enough that there are people I know that stretch from 11 to 40 who are using the term, and many other 'fad' terms.

It reminds me of the word 'lamer', which was a huge fad in certain areas for a long long time. Years went by until that word steadily drifted out of use, and it was terms like 'lol' and 'toon' that have steadily drifted in. With the explosion of the internet the scale of 'fad words' (maybe there's a board game in that one - 'Fadwords') has just increased.

If the internet had been so popular 15-20 years ago I'm sure 'lamer' would have been spread everywhere by the same crowd.

Its definitely true that these fads are often just company/corporate created things, or even if they aren't at first they are soon adopted by them in some way and used to make money - its the way of the world.

I don't necessarily like it though. Look at PokeMon - kids around the world went nuts for them. Nowadays people are also obsessed with the fake celebrity status and worthless professions like warbling badly into a microphone while computers process their voices. There will always be fads, and I wish some of them would die so the world would improve.

Maybe we should all get together and come up with ways to get people to believe that 'improving the world' is cool.
  15. Heheh, good luck taking on every studio that had a hand in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' - there are so many scary-big lawyer-happy names there I don't want to even mention them as I'd probably get sued for it.

  16. Strangely enough, 'LOL' was originally a 'l33t' speak term that was used constantly. It used to drive alot of people nuts, as phonetically it just sounded like something my head does when I'm drunk and tired. There is even still a small part of me inside that cringes whenever someone uses it. I guess part of that is because people overuse it so much (ie every sentence, or eg 'lololololololololololololol' - I mean - what DOES that mean?) or because it has never seemed to me to be a true statement. I rarely 'laugh out loud' during my gaming conversations, although I do chuckle or giggle sometimes.

However, I recognise that it has become a mainstream phrase, and to berate someone over it would be pretty daft by today's standards. I had someone berate me for my use of 'heheh' and was told I should say 'LOL' just a couple of weeks ago, and after emote pointing and laughing at them I explained politely that I, and hundreds (if not thousands) of other people were using 'heheh' on online games before the internet was a known thing and back when I was shunned for being the 'girl who liked computers'.

Of course, nowadays I laugh at all these 'adult' tw*ts in their 20s and 30s who used to laugh at me, all drooling over the latest platform game - the sort that I was completing when I was 7 or 8 (Monty Mole or Manic Miner, anyone?).

But I digress. The fact is that 'toon', although inaccurate from many viewpoints, and even irritating to some people, has become a mainstream term, possibly because of the lighthearted connotations the term has. I personally don't like it, I may even roll my eyes when someone uses it, but I won't berate someone for using it.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I can object. It is impolite in most conversations to call someone by other then their normal name. No one calls me that so you are trying to rename me. That is rude and can be argued even derogatory.

Do forum threads EVER succeed in that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, yes. It convinced me to try the PvP zones out. I tried it and enjoyed it...as long as there weren't other players there.

  20. [ QUOTE ]

My Grandpa never used the term "bling" for the jewelry he bought for my Grandma in the 50's, but It's damn sure a term nowadays ain't it? (and he's probably just as bitter to people saying it)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I hate the term 'bling' as well. I thought it was the sound a lift made when it reaches a floor its stopping at.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Nope, this issue is independent of villian grp/type faced. Endurance draining villian effects are plainly evident, ie Freaks/Malta Sappers, etc.

What many of us are experiencing is abnormal loss/failure to regain endurance post I7. This problem exists on both sides of CoX so it's something in the code.

My bet is probably a coded line which overcalculates the cost of all powers. The problem is that some builds will never see this problem because they are inherently economical, so those playing them never notice any appreciable loss. Conversely, those with 'expensive' builds see the endurance loss very quickly.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm experiencing the same thing, but rather than being totally dismissed in the first word how about we consider it as a possibility and rule it out through evidence.

Maybe it IS my imagination, but I have noticed a significant increase in the amount of times I've seen endurance being drained and by alot more villain types than before in my Combat window.

For example, Clockwork never used to bother me at all on their endurance drain - nowadays I can't work through a Clockwork mission without having to stop every group or two. Same character, same build. There are two areas to look at here without dismissing things outright.
