I don't care what they have on the burner, I want more CONTENT. i have a bunch of 50's who want to leave the retirement home and get back on the streets.
Secondly, It sucks they cant say much for crossfire support. If they could get more love for ATi/AMD, I would be one hell of a happy camper. ((yes, I have an Nvidia card now, but the day COH can use Crossfire, Im going shopping)).
its also nice that they are giving us 2 respecs for this Issue, I just wish they were a bit more than a week apart. It would be nice if they would give the 2nd one about 2 weeks later. (not completly complaining, respecing is just a nasty time sink....)

I just got my 57month badge. sometimes i wonder why i keep coming back.
I get bored with it, right now, im just waiting for I19. ive got several 50s who are going to want the end game content.
I get bored with other MMOs too. I cant stant WoW. and Eve-Online got meh for me too.
My wife is still playing CoX strong, she dosn't touch any other game, she puts a lot of time into CoX and dosn't think twice.
i think i stay because i like lighting things on fire, and i can do it in COH without being arrested..... -

im runing win7-x64, runs awesome.
back when i ran XP-x64 i had a whole slew of compatability issues, don't recal if Coh was one of them. -
ehh, why not, I'll tell my story.
Sometime in June '04, a bit after COH launched, I was 19 in college, in another state away from "home" one of my roommates worked at the local CompUSA. So, me being a huge computer nerd, I would hang out at that CompUSA. however, I was a broke kid back then, struggling to make rent, bills, college, etc. my computer at the time was an old throw away from a company I worked for back then, wasn't a great machine, but hey, they said if I could fix the computer, I could have it. (Pro tip, never tell a real computer nerd that, he will fix it, and he will end up with a free PC) but I had been saving up money to actually build a rig. So, one day while I was putting it together, my roommate gets back from work, and he has a new game. COH.
with nothing better to do, and no money to actually do anything myself, I just watched him play, he teamed up with a few coworkers who had picked it up as well, I watched him get to level 10, and I was like "I want to play this"
So, with my "new" rig finally finished, I got a trial key. And played that trial to the very last day, I got to level 15. I knew then that I could not afford to actually purchase the game, much less hold the subscription. Other issues were going on in my life, I would eventually be leaving that area to go back home to try another college, meaning employment changes and etc.
So, as a symbol of hope, I took my level 15 energy/ice blaster, and flew him up to the bald headed statue in Steel Canyon. And logged out.
2 years later, Im married, have a job. And am getting very bored with other non-mmo games, so think back to when I was in college, and then I remember COH. So, in August of 06, I break out my old box, run the installer. Spend a few hours downloading new updates, checking the site out. And made the purchase to subscribe.
once I log in, I thought it was going to crash, in the 2 years I had been out, from issue 0 to issue 7, quite a few new things, like badges for example, all those new things loading on my character caused the game to freeze for about 30 seconds. My first thought was like, "well crap, this is going so well...." but, when it was done, I flew off that bald headed statue, shot a few things, and went on. Had fun.
My wife got interest and sat beside me, and watched me play. I let her use one of the character slots to make a claw/regen scrap. She had so much fun, she purchased the game. Her experience into the game was much like my initial experience.
I may not have had an active account the entire time; some of the issues were, frankly, IMHO very blah. But, I keep coming back. Year after year.
Had it not been for my old roommate back in college, I would have never picked up on MMOs, I would probably still be playing Quake or something, nah, right now I would probably be finishing up Fallout new Vegas or w/e. but, since then MMO's are my preferred game type.
And thats my story. -
Yes, we can help, but first, Check the stickies first.

That was the OLDEST photo shoot (5.1 mains, 2.1 on PCs, weaker screen setup -- http://i10.tinypic.com/4vn801z.jpg). There was actually one after that. Back then, I only had 5.1 on the main AV setup... The wife was kind enough to finally get me the last 2 for 7.1... or I should say, she was kind enough to let me let her spend my money to buy me them as a gift.
Yea, thats the last one I remember, I had taken a 2 year hiatus, so, if it happend during that time, I missed it :/ -

Ok, wow. Um, can you double check to make sure it is really reading celcius and not Fahrenheit? because, the maxium rated temp for video cards is in the 90°C range. the GT 430 has a max of 98°C according to nvidia's reference.
if it is really going over 100 Celcius, then that would definatly be a problem.
so, If you can try another test, in gpu-z see if the fan speeds increase as temps increase, or even if the fan is running for the GPU (that is, if it has a fan, I only know of one brand that has passive cooling)
If there is a fan on that video card, and its not spining to keep up, you may have to open the case and see if there isn't something hindering the fan. make sure the card is seated properly as well.
all this if GPU-z is definatly reading celcuis. if gpuz is reading in Fahrenheit, then those temps are good, and we now have a whole other issue of troubleshooting.
In summary, if those temps are reading celcius, and you check the fan, and its working, and gpu-z shows its going faster as temps rise, and you still crash and/or the temps still get into the upper 90°C range, I think the best thing is an RMA... -
quickly looking over the logs, I don't really see any system problems, the the drivers look good. nothing really sticks out.
try this real quick, download GPU-Z from techpowerup. run it, and look at the sensors tab while the game is running. see what the GPU temp is.
Load CoX in windowed mode and see if you can do anything different. (if your not already doing that.)
The monitor going dark and turning off is an indicator that the monitor has lost signal. it sounds like the video card is directly shutting down. so, my last question, do you have to manually reboot the PC, or is there something your able to do to recover without shuttingdown? -
honestly, i just break out my laptop on the side when i want to run in full screen. those USB monitors have trouble with certain apps, like Java and Flash, at least in my experiance where i work, we have a 4 monitor setup, 2 on a real video card, the other 2 on a USB-VGA adapter.

Quote:I think BaBs knows we're watching. As of right now, his profile reads:

Yup, he's watching us. he's starting to play with our heads, next thing he'll update it too, is "Bill Gates employer"
it sounds to me that he is having fun. so, weather or not he's laid off/quit/fired/ and employed or not, he is having fun messing with us.
otherwise, he is epic for doing it that way. go Christopher -

((EDIT: his Linkedin profie changed after I typed this up, my theroy below is outdated, and debunked, continue on, nothing to see here)
After reading over this thread, looking at Mr. Bruce's linkedin profile, this is what i thinked happend:
he started to pull himself away from the community around the time Cryptic launched STO, since then, he's locked his PMs, closted Twitter, and has been seen less and less.
so, I assume that when Cryptic launched STO, they either gave Mr. Bruce an offer, or Mr. Bruce gave them an offer.
However, since GR was still in the works, Mr. Bruce was more than likley obligated to Paragon stuidos until GR was completed, the temp staff that was hired to get GR out the door was more than likly obligated to stay until GR was green.
Since I19 was announched, this is a good sign that GR has had most of its post launch polishing done. so, the staff that was temped to get GR out, are no longer needed. And with that, Mr. Bruce's obligation to see GR through and through is also complete.
So, I19, announced, Mr. Bruce either took up an offer with Cryptic.
as i said, the reason I assume this, is because he started to pull himself away from the community after Cryptic launched STO, and the incredible timing of this news after I19 was announced.
Just my thoughts, If he was indeed laid off, let go, or left, I hope him the best, and hope his LinkedIn profile is legit in saying he is with Cryptic now, afterall, being without a job is more depressing...

Hello CoX community, Mods, and Devs.
I want time stamps in chat channels, nuff said.
I see this has been suggested before, but the last thread was about a year old, and I do not like necromancing threads, especially if they werent popular.
Some questions I can see being asked.
Yes, I know when you turn chat logging on, time stamps are on the logs, I dont care about logs, I want to see time stamps in the UI where I will be actively looking at the channels.
Secondly, how would/could this look? Taking pointers from Eve-Online, I think:
[Channel](3:30pm EST) Player: Hello All
[Tell] (3:30pm EST) Player: Hello
[Tell] (3:30pm EST)-->Player: Hello
Where setting time zone could be an option, since the population is broken into two kinds of people, those who know their time zone, and those who have no idea what a time zone is, and seeing those 3 letters would confuse them; so a chat option could allow players to hide their time zone, using either the time zone from the OS time/date settings, or allowing 12/24hour, and setting time zone settings in the game UI as well.
Pre determined time zone (however the option would be set):
[Channel](3:30pm) Player: Hello All
Etc
With 12/24 settings:
[Channel] (15:30) Player: Hello All
Etc
Now, Comes something I feel would make a great addition if time stamps could be added, Having them in channels like zone events!
(3:30pm)Jurassik has appeared in 'Crey's Folly'.
Some other suggestions, that would really just be more QoL points for a time stamp issue:
1) Chat setting that allows the player to select which channels they want time stamps enabled. (after-all, some channels it wouldnt be so important, ie, system channel)
2) Setting text color/font of time stamp, with option of it being auto the same of the channel(s) its selected for
3) And others that will probably be asked or suggested after I post this

Quote:Reading the posted articles makes me want to avoid NVIDIA if at all possible. I guess I'll be going after a Radeon.

Will it run CoX pretty well?
I have one close to that for my onboard video solution, CoH refused to load, litterly, never even got to the login screen. that may be a model higher than my onboard, but, I wouldn't bank on it... -
After doing my own benchmarks with COH and the GTX 460, the only benefit i can see with having the 1gb version (For CoX) is being able to turn up FSAA. Turning up FSAA to its max (x32 on mine) chews up all the video memory.
I turned off ambiant occlusions to increase performance, and a personal preference, its not as visually apealing to me anyway when its maxed out. so for me, its a win win having it off. I have reflections on medium. everything else maxed out, FSAA at x16 and i have an average of 50-60fps.
If I run at Max ultra mode, my average FPS is about 20.
Now, all that is when im outdoor. If im in a mission map, where there is less to reneder, i can turn just about everything all the way up, and still have some nice fps. (but, as i said earlyer, i don't really like the ambiant occlusions)
But, to sum it up, I think the GTX 460 is a great card. IF you have a good system behind it, it will run great. If your running an older system, it may not be as nice for you.
For me, TBH, is the environmental benefits of using it is win. it runs cool, even under load. Im a stickler for stock cooling for everything, so, if it runs cool on its own, its a winner.
for those who wonder:
Phenom II @ 3GHz
4GB DDR3 @ 1600
Gigabyte GTX460. -
Im running a GTX 460 1gb on my desktop, I can run the game at max ultra mode, but its not exactly playable, I turn off ambiant occlusions and turn down reflectoins, and keep the rest maxed out, and very playable.
One thing i have to say that i love about the GTX 460, it runs cool. under load she hits about 140° F. it idles about 93°F. A lot better than my old 9800 gt.
i Have one question for ATi users, how does the 5750 run? I see that the 5770 will run COH very well for ultra mode, but, Im trying to look at a budget build and just wondering if anybody has used a 5750

Quote:My bad, not 10 miles at all (wishful thinking on my part as I am looking at houses which fall in the 5-10 mile range :/ )
Ideal is under 1 mile. It can get out to 5 miles on certain occasions.
DSL reports gives a good breakdown: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/4676
(QR) to both questions. I used to work for Bellsouths DSL.. so i can answer this and not be making it up either!
it honestly depends on your speed plan, If you have a low end speed plan, you could be about 27k-30k feet.
High end plans, under a mile. Last i checked, if you have a 6Mb+ package, its best to be under 1000 feet from the DSLAM. so, usually, major apartment complexes and neighborhoods in the 'burbs can get good DSL.
I remember a few years ago (when i worked for Bellsouth) i lived within a 5 minute walk of the DSLAM, but the way they ran the plant, i was over 1500' away, i was caped at 3Mbs. -
(QR)
I don't have an I-7. (for those who remember me, I am all AMD baby).
i have a new Phenom II 945 with the ability to scale down (and up if nessisary) on its own. I don't have 8 logical cores, I only have 4 physical. What I have notices with Win7 and CoX is that (IF i don't set affinity manually) Windows will actually spread the CoX load over all 4 cores at load. Why, Im not sure, but i decided to test it once and i found out. If i set affinity to only 2 cores (since last i checked, CoX only handles 2) CPU temp will actually be higher, and use more power. Why? im not sure, I decided not to mess with the affinity anymore with windows 7, if it spreads the load to save power and reduce temps, Im all for it.
I have yet to actually find a program were tweaking CPU usage with windows 7 and my 945 is optimal, Leaving it alone seams to be best so far. (tweaking or not, I havn't noticed any change in performance doing either, so its just more work, and im lazy, so leaving it alone not only works for the pc, it works for my laziness)
So, what does my short story have to do with your issue, Probally nothing. I just felt like giving an example from my own experiance. -
theres a few things that can cause this
1) Heat.
- but since youve been keeping the case clear of dust and monitoring temps, Im going to rule this one down a few notches.
2) since youve already swaped video card, possibly system memory issues.
- Try swaping the memory modules around, if they are all the same manufature/model/type this isn't going to be a problem. (Ie swap bank 1 and 2 around).
3) other Motherboard problems. set bios to default settings. (this is actually tricky with my new mobo, i have to manually set ALL my memory timings) - before you do this (if you do) take note of all settings prior to doing so. If there is the slight chance that a bad bios setting is doing this, I'd like to know what it was :/ -
I would go with motherboard problems on this one. have you checked your motherboard manufacture for any bios updates?
I remember from experience an old soyo board i had, had many many issues. after the company stopped making motherboards (go figure) there was a bios release from phoenix to correct it. (but by that point, i no longer used that board)
