When submitting for a category, do we only go with one, or can we nominate an Arc for several? I'd like to submit for Best Custom Group, Most Outrageous and Most Creative.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can select which categories you would like your arc to be considered for.

So if you think its got a good storyline but also a great cast, then you would list those 2 categories you would like it to be considered for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks. I think when I submitted the arc to you I suggested one category for evaluation but asked for two others as well.

How is the turnout so far? Lots of submissions, or do you need more?

Humor Arcs - We get it. Super powers versus fruit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Humor is very subjective. Personally, I thought that arc's concept was pretty funny - especially the play on the celery stalk...er.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Humor is definitely very subjective. You can get 60 people to snicker at your in-jokey homage to Portal and then get 1 person who doesn't snicker. And then without mercy berates the concept of humor arcs using yours as the example. Ouch.

According to a SG member. Far too many arcs take place in the cargo ship map.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So true. Even I have an arc on the cargo ship map and *I'M* sick of seeing that map.

I can't help it though. Unless the Game Devs add some classical pirate ship maps into the game, there's no other appropriate setting for my Pirate Rum Runners mish.

Arc 3630 - You Say It's Your Birthday
    Rating: No Rating

Today, I resolved, to get some backlog dealt with. So perhaps I deserve it for finding that I have... well, a lot of comedy arcs. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't want to give people the wrong idea, I like comedy. I like comedy a lot but I don't know what's so attractive to people about the mission architect that screams 'use me for comedy.' It feels like trying to carve with boxing gloves on, or as if comedy can excuse writing that may not make sense, or be overly simple. Whatever.

This arc was PM'd to me by someone so I feel bad for them in this case, but as is my wont, I got about halfway through the first mission, recognised just how different this arc was to what I was looking for, and decided to leave. It's not a bad arc - it's decent-ish for the kind of comedy it wants to be, and it doesn't really do anything that I found entertaining in the opening.

Now, look, as an author it's your job to not only provide an interesting conclusion to a story but to provide a good beginning. My primary interest in mission architect is story-based reviews. I want to play through stories, through ideas, through uses of the mission architect to do something that can be part of a character's life. Why do people insist on constantly using it to make fart gags, in droves!?

I didn't rate the arc - at least, I hope I didn't - because I simply wanted nothing to do with it. If you're looking for a showcased custom enemy type, a bunch of cake gags and an inefficient, unimpressive use of the mission architect system elements that I actually like, take it for a spin. Take it away.

So, look, here's the thing: I don't care about what simple joke you can make. A joke has to support a mission, not be an excuse for it. A story arc has to be a story arc. I am getting very very fed up with seeing a joke dragged out, custom factions being wiggled around on the end of strings, and the 'OH HAY I CAN MAKE MY OWN MISSIONS NOW' approach people are giving me. Especially since most of the times, the jokes aren't funny, the custom critters suck, and No, you probably can't really make your own [censored] missions.

Ugh. I am seriously considering shifting to a QPQ system so that people will maybe read the thread a bit more clearly and consider: 'Do I really want Talen telling me that my jokes suck?' before they submit YET ANOTHER STUPID COMEDY ARC to me.

Oh, and this is the first thing on the list. We're in for a looong day.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wow. My jokes suck.

(commits ritual suicide using a rubber chicken)
  5. Hola. There had been some complaints about the Rum Runners (ID 3691), where the Ally had been weakened to Lt. status which made him dead halfway through the mission. I realized the map difficulty was scaled to Ramp Up, meaning the first room was -1 lower on level than the rest of the map. By making it flat, Wittypirate is now same level as the rest of the map and after a test run appears to be hearty enough to survive until the Pirate King pops up.

    Hope this helps.

    Pirate ship maps

I've had it. Every pirate mission I've found on AE keeps using the SAME cargo ship interior! Even my own pirate rum run uses it! We're stuck, game devs! We need BETTER PIRATE MAPS!

Give us a few open zones with classic style pirate ships, an open zone with a pirate cove complete with docked ships, and we'll be able to create more thematically pleasing pirate battles. Please?

Oh, and this is request number 14,872,982 for Pirate Masterminds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All I can say is that by my personal count I've had 12 different people agree with my assertion we need pirate ship maps. I've told them to find this thread and add their voice to the call...
Tell your friends! Tell your neighbors! Bring the dogs! Wait... Bring the rum instead! And challenge the game devs for moar pirate maps!!!

    Faction: Custom (Cake Deniers)
    Your global/forum name: @Witty Librarian
Difficulty Level: Can be solo'ed, but it's fun to bring a party!
    Recommended Team Size: 1-8
Typical duration: Short- 1 Map (1 Boss, 1 Destructible Object, 3 types of Glowys, not defeat all)
Arc Synopsis: We were going to throw you a surprise birthday party, but certain villain groups didn't want to share the costs so they stole your presents and your cake! Go free your cake!

Arc Name: Rum Runners of Bloody Bay
    Arc ID: 3691
    Faction: Custom (Nerva Pirates)

Typical duration: Short - 1 Map (Custom Boss, 24 Glowys, 1 Ally, not defeat all)
Arc Synopsis: Avast! The noble Bloody Bay Buccaneers are a bit upset that their stash of rum has been hijacked! Why is the rum all gone? Because their rivals the Nerva Pirates have swiped all the barrels. Go get the rum back, and make the Pirate King regret his mistake!

  16. I've already gotten a tanker to Level 11 in preparation for the Tanking event.

Hopefully will be Level 12-14 by Tuesday. I'm holding off on the Midnight Club arc in case ppl will want to run it.

Has this been mentioned to the PERC ppl on Freedom?

I mostly play villains here on Champion, but my first villain arc is still in progress.

So as a tied-me-over, here is my first one:

Arc Name: [u]Stop the catgirl rampage![u]
    Arc ID: 66361
    Faction: Neutral
    Your global/forum name: @Night Mission
    Difficulty Level: Medium
Recommended Team Size: Solo +, this is for fun so no EBs/AVs
Typical duration: 3 missions, only the first one is long.

Arc Synopsis: Mynx’s fan club is in town and they are not amused.

Notes: It’s a comedy. Play it for fun and a few laughs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have played this Arc. Here is a handy guide on how to win at this Arc.
  19. This is actually somebody else's mission.

This guy @Bishop Creed create a 4-door Arc titled "Quest for the Coral Horn", and when I solo'ed with a Blaster it went pretty well until the final door mission...

EDIT: ...(I have been asked to redact this portion of the mission, as Bishop Creed wants this to be a surprise. Suffice to say, it's not fluffy bunnies waiting to greet you).

I hereby challenge the Tankers on this server to test themselves on this Arc. Solo it, I dares ya. >
  20. On what's been my most-run Arc to date (Rum Runners of Bloody Bay) I'd inserted an Ally (Wittypirate) to help out against the tough-as-nail EB Gaspar the Pirate King. And I kept the Ally in there even after nerfing Gaspar down three or four times due to complaints about Gaspar's original uber-unstoppableness.

Problem was, I started getting complaints about Wittypirate. See, he's a Storm Summoner Defender and... well yeah people complained about his Hurricane. How it didn't turn off and how the KB effect was ruining their mood.

Problem with THAT was if I got rid of Wittypirate's Hurricane at Boss level or higher, I also got rid of Freezing Rain, which was useful (esp. against Gaspar). I couldn't get rid of one without the other and thus ruining the purpose of the Ally to begin with.

And no, I wasn't switching Wittypirate's powers around to something else: He's a Storm Summoner, dammit. It's just in the real game I don't have him running around with Hurricane on 26/7.

My only other option was to drop Wittypirate from Boss Level to Lieutenant level. It got rid of Hurricane while keeping Rain. But in the process it nerfed Wittypirate down to an easy target who gets wiped out against the first mob you come across. I need to bump Wittypirate back up to Boss level to live long enough to face Gaspar like he's supposed to.

Is there a way to de-activate a particular power without affecting the rest of the powerset(s)?
  21. Hola. Last night on a whim I tried out a series of pirate-themed Arcs.

All five arcs designed by completely different people, with different custom-built pirates.

But they ALL used the same map location: those big metal cargo holds.

While shipping and piracy go hand-in-hand, the problem I'm seeing is that we don't have the CLASSICAL environs in which pirates can operate. No classical wooden vessels of hardened timber, rusting cannons, sails, masts and moorings, none of that.

All we need is a set of small maps of Pirate ships, with an open ship's deck for fighting and doorways into the vessel to fight the krewes inside 'em. And also a seaside port with Pirate ships in dock if there's to be a raid on a seadog safehaven. With these types of maps, we can improve on the Pirate-themed MAs and get better enjoyment in playing the Arcs.

Oh, and would it kill you game devs to make some PIRATE MASTERMINDS along with the new maps? It's only like the 13,873,914th time I've asked for Pirate MMs and all...

Scrapped my idea of having an arc as soon as i14 goes live, but anyone else that wants to advertise for their live arcs starting tomorrow, feel free!

In the meantime, I'm wondering about how silly an enemy group I can make instead of trying to actually fit a six-mission arc into five missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I gave up on MA when I found I couldn't use scrapyarders as a level 50 group. Forces the Concept OSHA TF I wanted to do at a max level of 30. Maybe they'll open the level range for all the enemy groups but I doubt it. Customizable maps and a larger memory space for each arc would have been nice too.
    Disappointing.

I am really hoping i15 brings me something to keep me after 60 months other than the weak 5 merit vet reward. Saving 50% on all my tailoring seesions for the 57 month reward was really special... It will come in handy once I have used my 30+ costume tokens on each of my toons.

Good luck to those making arcs.... you have some fun challenges with the limitations the devs have given you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aw boss. I got you a Birthday Cake mission (Arc ID 3630) and everything. Sniff. Won't you play...? (insert sad puppy eyes here)

Well, you may not have the ability to use Scrapyarders at 50, but is there any way to make a Custom group of villains similar to Scrapyarders?
  23. Advertising? Man, I never could work up the nerve to advertise my own book...

What the heck! Cake mission, people!

    Mission ID: 13088
Length: Very Long - 4 Missions, 1 Timed
    Groups: Circle of Thorns, Hellions
    Levels: 5-14, mostly.
Difficulty/team size: Given the level cap of 14, teammates will help. You can solo it but try not to die a lot. Some missions can be Failed.

Background story: We're attempting to re-establish the Paragon City Library system. But to do that, the collection stolen by the Circle needs to be retrieved. Head into door missions in Perez Park to recover some of the more... interesting tomes of the collection...

    Your Global name: @Witty Librarian

And this... will fill up my 3 MA cap space. Sigh. Go Rays!
