You think it... I've PLAYED IT.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll actually back Heph up on that claim.
He's logged over a 1000 hours on one of THESE -
[ QUOTE ]
Over all, it just seemed like people are saying that blasters are being greedy by wanting to do what pretty much every other AT does anyway. I think they are just wanting what everyone else has.
[/ QUOTE ]
No I definitely agree that at late game they are unnecessarily handicapped. Like I posted in earlier threads, Melee Range is brought to THEM whether they like it or not and in Late game that means Status effects too. ...Keep in mind I make Scraptrollers as a hobby so I'm Well aware of how many more Status Effects you have to deal with when you run in Melee range all the time or melee range is brought to you via Mass-Aggro issues.
Anyway, like I was saying, By the Time Blasters finally get some EPPs that assist with Melee, they're already being bombarded with Status effects too. That's NOT the way it should work. The EPP's should introduce light Status Resists, and temporary melee Defenses at the same time they get mid-game Melee Powers. My Blapper for instance "flashes" the WeddingBand tempPower on and off while Meleeing. It's certainly not "Overpowered" because I only have a limited 2 hours of use for it and have to be conservative. -
[ QUOTE ]
You seem to have a large number of characters _Ilr_(as do I), can you say that some other AT is as hard to solo at the finale as blasters?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well no I really can't. But some Defenders and my DA scrapper(That didn't take tough or Weave or the Leaping Pool) feel pretty close. Infact she'd be just as weak as a Blaster without Fitness and Hasten. ...And even weaker if the Primary had been Claws.
I know a worst-case scenario is hard to prove. But ask yourself, would you really want to find out first hand? -
[ QUOTE ]
Controllers often say "the best pet in my arsenal is a scrapper". God, if only we could replace scrapper with blaster in that sentence!
[/ QUOTE ]
My controller tried to. The problem was that none of the Blasters stuck around long enough to learn that other sets can work as well for them as Empathy.
Especially at lower levels, if you're a low level Controller with anything besides a ton of slots in Empathy, you're going to have bad luck finding a good Blaster. Even the Good blasters often won't settle for any less than Empath. It would seem that the General Blaster-Opinion not just here, but in game too, is that Blasters are such fragile aggro-magnets that not even most dedicated defenders can keep them alive.
...Perhaps there's a problem with all Defender Buffs/Debuffs not protecting Blasters as much as they should?? -

So I'm right. blasters are comedic relief. the [censored] Clowns of CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
So all you have to do now is join the super group...
[/ QUOTE ]
You're a little late, he's been the King of the Azz Clowns ever since he got here.
...though I figured everyone had noticed by now... -
[ QUOTE ]
You know, thats so obvious it's brilliant! Controllers of our level can't be bother, but those 16s brawling for hour after hour in Steel Canyon would sure love a helpful friend. And they'll be a huge help.
Be a Blaster. Adopt a controller. Hell, maybe after you've helped him get to 32, he'll even let you still hang out with him.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shh, not so Loud... One of the Controllers or Tankers I already adopted might hear ya. Even my DA picks up Empaths and Kinetics controllers cuz I never have enough Endurance on my own to Control "Invicible" spawns and attack them at the same time ...I'm even working on adopting a High-Level blapper to help my DA too but he still plays too much WoW right now ...why a Blapper? Oddly enough, Total Focus does just enough damage and Disorient to make up for the Damage and Stunning I'd usually be doing on my own if I had enough Endurance to attack them myself, LoL. -
[ QUOTE ]
Blasters are supposed to shine in a team. That means two things. #1 they shouldn't be able to reach their full potential without a team and #2 when on a team, they should be able to.
Sadly, #2 is not true, but that's what needs to be fixed. You seem to want to change #1.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sadly is Right! WAY too many posters in this Thread are just crying "GodMode me !!!" like it's the only way they think they can be Balanced. ..Especially Heph who's back for his usual song and dance on the subject. The actual number of people talking specifically about Shining in Team Play can be counted on one hand. It doesn't look like the Devs will be getting much useable unfiltered information from this thread -
[ QUOTE ]
Green Arrow. In one of the episodes of JLU, he took on Wildcat hand to hand. Although he didn't defeat him, he was still able to hold him off for some time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually at the beginning of that episode he proves that we was a very accomplished hand to hand fighter. What he did in the ring against Wildcat was intentionally take a Dive as he never actually fought back and still wasn't knocked out before putting himself in the "Stasis" death-like state. -
[ QUOTE ]
Why is ranged/control overpowered? We're talking about blasters being to controllers as controllers are to defenders.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ooh, ouch, I wouldn't go there
There's a whole platoon of folks in the Defender forum quite unhappy with the actual Stats on that whole situation.
Infact My own controllers have lead me to be rather disgusted with the situation as well as I was simply a "BuffBot with pets. No one wanted CrowdControl, they just wanted a Defender that summoned Mini-scrappers
...Odly enough here's a bunch of Blasters saying that they'd be Balanced if they got more Ranged Control. ...Well here's what ya do, dig around the low level areas and find one of the dozens of controllers Looking for a Team for the last hour and SK him up to help you "solo" your mission. -
[ QUOTE ]
The Scrapper usually uses his ranged attacks in melee, or just while closing. You aren't going to see a Scrapper "kite". It just doesn't happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then you never saw my Spines/Rgn fighting Freak Bosses back when the Issue3 "Boss-Patch" was live ...No joke, a +1 Tanker could 2-shot a regen. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
This is an outrage, Scrappers whine cause they can't take on multiple 4+ bosses and AVs, and can't herd as well any more and they get a written apology
[/ QUOTE ] Please be careful with these generalizations. I'd like to see Blasters helped out, but when I see that kind of blind overgeneralizing and lashing out, it makes it really hard to stay supportive...
[/ QUOTE ]
Where the HELL were you this week? You didn't just see it happen? There was the Biggest Thread ever next to the "Ask a stupid question" thread that degenerated into EXACLTLY that, Regens complaing that they couldn't take on Multiple high level Bosses. And YES, Statesman writing an Apology.
Did he apologize to us DA's who still are subPar for threatening to Nerf us? Hell no he apologized to the Regen-Masses (Which I REMIND everyone, I own a Regen too and helped improve them) , We DA's are in the same boat as the Blasters, the SS-Ignored.
Point is, you must have been watching something completely different this week because what he described it exactly the way it happened. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, we can hold. Scrappers can't. Though they can get immobs, I think. Not sure on this.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only reliable Scrapper Immob is Impale. Crippling Axe is is Described as immobilizing, but we Crit with it more than we Immob with it.
Now if you're talking real Holds, Ie, ones that Stop the mob from attacking you back completely... My MA/DA has Chain-Held TWO bosses at once and can run WirlWind to hold a 3rd boss while CoF can theoretically hold Dozens of Lts(Worked fine on those All-Captain Raider-spawns in TerraVolta). ...That even beats Ice Blasters for Holding power.
Can't hold... indeed. -
[ QUOTE ]
Its really not scrappers fault that they are stepping on others toes as much as the Devs fault for making the "jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none" AT so close (well post-purple patch almost equal) to the speciallized one. Devs got the middle man AT closer to accurate with Kheldians.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll Agree with that!
We've known all this time that Scrappers Solo at a Superior rate while all other AT's are intentionally handicapped at soloing, but Scrappers are nothing that anyone kicks out of bed for eating crackers in a team lovfest either! Infact the only AT that's regularly kicked out of teams, is some Energy Blasters and lots of StormDefenders. ..FireBlasters of course, are forced to quit teams once they hit their DebtCap for the night
You mentioned the Keldians.... Which much more of a Team-AT because their Tanker Form has inherrant Provoking and they pretty much have to since a Void guy's waiting around every corner to shove a quantum gun up their azz.
Maybe the answer is right under our noses ... atleast in Team PvP... And that's to take all of this Aggro that Blasters are magically able to generate, and divert it all to the nearest Scrapper or Tanker automatically for the Blaster's sake. ....That would certainly help Handicap a Scrapper in Team Gaming if he took most of the Aggro just for being in the general area . -
[ QUOTE ]
If blaster-melee is made more blaster-friendly, then it could become a very interesting option.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been saying this for 7 months. No one was willing to listen then.... Unfortunately for them they've run out of options so they have to listen now.
Edit:
I'm not saying that Blapping should be our Defense and certainly not our Only defense... But it shouldn't be something that endangers us any worse than our Ranged attacks if it's Damage cap is going to remain 400%. And Conversely... It should be something even better in PvP, ... a Deterrant, granting us even more 'Percieved' Defense in PvP....Maybe even making Scrappers fear Blasters in PvP as much as Blasters fear those same Scrappers. -
[ QUOTE ]
the biggest problem is that its not just blaster vs. scrapper... its blaster vs tanker, blaster vs defender, and even blaster vs fire-imps... and that's on the offensive side!
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't forget Phantasms!
My Phantasms were doing 100 Dmg Energy Torrents right before I Respec'd out of them. ...Get 3 of them puppies going and you're back to the Old Days of the original Smoke-Nader Tank Mage -
Cool Thanks! I love playing a Blapper. I love Meleeing stuff with my Controllers, Defenders, and Scrappers and they all function at it very well. So why should I have to stop hitting stuff when I log in my Blaster?
[ QUOTE ]
Ranged damage. Now, the issue is more specifically - what does a Blaster do that a Scrapper can't already do?
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats a damn good question. But saying: "Ranged damage" and then saying: "I have no intention of removing melee attacks" Raises even more questions from everyone else I'm sure, and they're Not going to be the good kind either.
-
Someone mentioned that Blasters suffer from inconsistant Powersets within the AT itself. I'm not entirely sure I agree with that but I will say the Minuses in many of them are Now worse than the Minuses that us DA Scrappers have compared to the "Scrapper average" somehwere around within the other 3 Scrapper secondaries For example ,for Blasters in each Primary/Secondary I can think of:
-AR's: Entirely lethal damage which is what most Scrappers do too and also Resisted by a large amount of "Thuggish" Mobs. An AR can never shine when there's a Scrapper on their Team too.
-Fire Blast: Aggro Magnet which in Late Game means they get Perma-Held
-Ice Blast: Blizzard's DoT is based on Area instead of being a NORMAL DoT that stays on the Mob nomatter where the Mob runs.
-Energy Blast: Basically what Storm Defenders would be if they had Real Damage and a Primary/Secondary system that somehow resembled Synergy *Tries imagining a Storm/Energy Defender ... Head feels like it's going to Explode*
-Electric Blast: The Most Scandalous Black-Eye on the Dev's Reputations to date: This set has always had crappy Damage because it was expected to Dominate in PvP. ...But now that PvP is here, Endurance Drain is Nerfed to 25% Per a Last-Minute rule. PvP DID effect PvE NEGATIVELY...Devs should be beaten with rubber hoses for breaking that unwritten law.
-Devices: Mines are exploited while the rest of the set can't even begin to compare
++Energy Manip: Very good synergy, Total Focus and Conserve power Pwnz ... Pretty much the only Blaster set I can't find serious fault with
-Fire Manip: It beats out DarkArmor and Controller/StormSummoning in order to Tie with WarMace for Worst secondary in the Game. Only one thing is needed to make it worthwhile, and that's add several Status Resistances to it.
-Electrical Manip: 4 Melee Attacks. Personally I love that, most Blappers do infact. ...Unfortunately those Melee Attacks are completely unreliable for their Debuffs and Statuseffects. ...Melee is enough of a Gamble for any Blaster, why are electric's Melee attacks a Gamble too? Also Needs to Synergize with it's Primary better.
-Ice Manip: Lacks the consistant Melee damage of electrical and suffers from the same lack-of-control problems also making it nearly as bad of a gamble in Melee range as Fire Manip is. ..Needs to synergize with it's Primary Better -

Defenders are not fine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't bring up mez protection, I am not for blasters getting it and I sure as hell am not up for defenders getting it either more than what they already have.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fine, Defenders don't get any Melee Attacks until certain APP/EPP's anyway. But Blasters DO get Melee attacks early on. And why do Scrappers have such massive StatusResists? ....Because they Melee. Admit it, they're feeding the Gander and starving the Goose! -
[ QUOTE ]
And, of course, there's the complaint that some Secondaries have too many melee attacks - something that the Blaster avoids at all costs.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're thinking of Haephestus. He didn't reflect the sole opinion of the Blaster community in any way. Plenty of Blasters like Melee and my own Complaints in regard to Blasters is that there's Not ENOUGH Melee attacks and they cycle too slow while offering no real lasting Debuffs/CrowdControl. What there IS too much of in this game, is AoE Damage fields that cause fear and knockbacks and crap that don't in any way shape or form protect anyone from Mobs with Ranged attacks who shoot while running away, which is pretty much 97% of all enemies.
No, Melee is quite fun and somtimes is a way of life for some blasters, especially the ones that can handle it. The only Problem of course is that these blasters are not offered any kind of Melee defenses until the late 40's which doesn't help either sicne that becomes an issue of having no Status Protection either.
PLEASE do 1 of these:
--Give Blappers GOOD temporary defenses or debuffs
--Give Blappers temporary light StatusResists
--Remove the Damage-Cap on Blaster Melee
--Replace High-Aggro, Low-Damage, AoE Fields in the 2ndaries with something DEFENSIVE.
Or
--ADD Status Resists to those Low-Damage AoE fields. -
Awesome frikkin avatar d00de. Wished I'd thought of that!
-
You know .... the Special Olympics has runners that aren't suited or well prepared too. ...Compared to normal races, they're very LONG races too. And even if someone wins, they're still retarded. I'm not saying you're retarded for not taking some Enhancements to sell on the TestServer over from your Live server "Inf Pool". It's just a matter of doing what is necessary to get an unquestionable WIN. I'm saying that if it takes either one of you a long time to kill eachother, that makes you both losers in the grand scheme of PvP
-
I'm going with what Jobu said. Infact, These aren't "observations" of PvP, they're just excuses for not thinking up a way around all of these things, which there is quite a few paths.... Fear for example, just because you're a Tanker or Scrapper doesn't mean you get to carry only Rages and Insights, you NEED to be carrying a row or two of BreakFrees and using them when things actually turn sour. Even when terrorized you have a window to attack and you don't lose your Toggles like other status effects do to us REAL squishies.
...And like anything else, Of course you'll burn out fast if you don't take it all in moderation. -
Hey Blasto. I've nopticed the same thing recently and it seems to be an issue with the Specific Key use.
IE, if you just used Shift instead of LShift, it should work everytime without creating a target first and getting stuck the second time you try to port.
...Though to fix that, you'll need to type /bind lshift+lbutton nop, and then type /bind shift+lbutton ...blah-blah-blah -
So could anyone who's been paying attention to this this stuff tell me what the deal is with Blue King's then, if it's going to continue or its getting dropped?
Because for the first time I just saw something involving the Keldian/Nictus + Council and it was actually interesting what was happening, and it was in Blue King's comic. ...the Council needs a back story more like that in the Actual game here! -
I'd disagree, in that your exact words are frankly way too mean-spirited about it and unless you could do better, I'd suggest leaving the critiques to the real artists out there.
