    292 Centuries?

I think we all need to get a life.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Beat ya to it.

Sorry, didn't read through the thread. Still...pathetic when you look at it in those terms

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, taking a simple assumption, it only comes down to about 500 hours/account.

I can’t tell you how excited I am for our game’s future, and although we have some major announcements yet to be made, one of the things I can talk about is a feature that we are planning. Similar in concept to our character creator, it allows you, the players, to create missions and story arcs for your characters and others to participate in. You’ll be able to pick the map, villain group, and objectives, as well as write the dialog and any clues needed for the missions. When you are satisfied with it, you can upload it and have other players across all servers play it and rate it. Fame will come to the players whose stories rate the best overall. It is features like these that we never dreamed of including when we first shipped, but are excited to be able to offer players very soon.

Sorry, I believe it is Orthodox April 1st, in the Mayan Calendar, of course.

    # More than 32 million characters created – that’s 4 times the population of New York City!

    [/ QUOTE ]

You heard it here people! We finally have the numbers we need!

Fall in line! We head out at 6 bells. It's time to take over NYC!!! For truth, justice, and the ability to get falafel at 4 am!

Edit: And most importantly, for Pony!

    292 centuries? Really. Holy [censored]!

I mean, that's 29,200 years of total play time, or 1.518 Million Weeks, or 255 Million hours played. We really need to get some lives!

    [/ QUOTE ]
I dual box ~50% of the time I play so that counts as two 'people' playing for X hours each.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, even so, it's going to be a lot of hours. If the current population is about 130,000 people, let's make an assumption that over the course of the game, 4 times that many players have added to the total number of hours.

    255 Million/(130,000 * 4) = 490 Hours each. Actually, that's not as bad as I had thought.

  7. I must say, I'm a bit worried with this. I fear that, with this issue being so 'small', and I13 being the much bigger release, that this game is doomed. I fear that it will create a black hole of pure awesomeness, and the servers will collapse in on themselves. Sure, you people who live far away from the servers might have time to escape the wrath, but I live in the town next to them. As soon as I13 goes live, I will most likely be instantly devoured by the awesome.

I12 and I13 have literally made me afraid for my life. Devs, can we please get LESS stuff in these issues?

  11. Welcome to the forums!

Blasters do not get a combat pet as part of their set. Fire Controllers do, as their level 32 power. Sometimes, you can earn a temporary combat pet through a mission, but you won't be able to get one through your set.

Second, if the tank defines his role as "team protector", then Taunt is pretty much required. I have found Taunt to be equivalent to a defender's Heal Otther power in actual use. Instead of healing, the tank taunts the baddies off of the squishy who is taking tons of damage and dying. The net result is that the tank just scooped one of his teammates out of the fire.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely disagree. Taunt auras and gauntlet can do a fine job of grabbing and holding aggro. Taunt is no more 'needed' for a team tanker than an extra attack is. It depends on the playstyle and skill of the tanker, however. But taunt is not needed.

    [ QUOTE ]
It has been suggested in the past that a tank can merely jump out of the group of baddies surrouding him, jump near the baddies killing his teammates, let his taunt aura work on them, and then jump back into the group. Although this can sometimes work, it assumes that all of the baddies in the intial group are aggroed to the tank and will re-group back on him when he jumps back (it also assumes the tank has Leaping or super jump, what about tanks with SS, TP, or FLY?). In addition, it assumes that taunt auras aggro just as fast as Taunt, which is not true. More often than not the tank ends up spreading out the group of baddies by jumping out of his group of herded or aggroed baddies to another spot. This is bad for any AOEs that are working on the team, could cause a team wipe, and the tank may end up saving one teammate and putting another in jeopardy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the mobs were surrounding the tanker before the leap, they will be taunted on him. Otherwise they would have broken off the tanker long before. And except for fire tanks, the pulse on most aggro auras is way faster than the taunt animation.

    [ QUOTE ]
The bottom line is that a tank with both Taunt and a taunt aura is a better team protector than a tank with only a taunt aura. He simply has more tools at his disposal to protect the team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A tool unused is a useless tool. If I can do a good job protecting a team without Taunt, why do I need it?

The right build and the right missions are what makes for a good farm. I don't have much opinion on the effectiveness of Ice Melee in regular missions since truth be told I haven't used him in that manner in along time. My Fire/Ice was breed to herd and it's something either me or the build do very well. I run farming missions with him often and I'm just not seeing how you say it's a bad herder.

    [/ QUOTE ]

it does ok 5 at a time. my spines can hit the entire spawn.

i created mine in the I3-I4 ice patch/burn hey day and I have herded entire maps before. fire/ice is not the most effective or efficient herder.

ice/fire or fire/fire do better imo. With the recharge bonuses out of ice/fire, I think that one is better atm.

ice melee should be a more effective tanker secondary. FA, which should be the reason to take the set, but it is not worth taking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I created mine back in the i3 days also and yeah it's different, but doable. I herd Warriors 2 groups at a time for about 20+ minions/lts and I promise U , I spend no more than 2-3 minutes a group. I can run the map as fast as any AT with no fear of death. Anybody who has been on one of my runs can tell you, I make it look easy. But as I said the right AT/Build/MAP/Enemies can herd anything effeciently.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, now round up the same amount of warriors, and don't use burn. See how long it takes you without that tool at your disposal.

I am not suggesting that we create a private forums for player correspondents to communicate in secret with the developers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, this wouldn't be a bad idea either, though. If the AC positions are created, having a forum for them to discuss issues with themselves and the Devs might not be a bad idea.

The reason for this? A lot of times the ATs have the same powersets. What might not work for one AT might work for another AT, and discussing that in a place where all of the ACs can see it before it goes to the Devs would allow for them to make sure it doesn't get changed for the AT the power works fine for.

Also, it would allow the ACs to come together and discuss what they think should be the order the Devs try to tackle things. If there is a bug in an entire AT, then they can say that that should be worked on before an animation change for a particular power, or something like that.

It's been a while since I've looked, and I'm kind of taking too long of a work break right now, but what set bonuses of real value to a Tanker are in the sleep sets?

    Hibernation
    Sleep Dur / +Health / + Smashing Res / - Recharge Time

Induced Coma (Chance for Recharge Slow proc IO)
    Sleep Dur / +Health / Debt Prot / + Move / + Melee Def

    Lethargic Repose
    Sleep Dur / + Energy Def / + Smashing Def / + AoE Def / + Toxic Res

Call of the Sandman (Chance for Self Heal proc IO)
    Sleep Dur / +Health / +Endurance / - Recharge Time / + Toxic/Psionic Res

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, nothing that you can't get from having a useful power instead of Frozen Aura.

    =. .=

    [/ QUOTE ]

FA is useful! How else are we supposed to wow the newbies in Atlas?

Edit -> and to channel GA for a second, those hellions aren't going to get the Top Dog badge by themselves!
  17. [ QUOTE ]
In addition there are long standing issues in many of the ATs that the devs simply will not address. Tundara just got an answer back from Castle on the very, very old issue of Frozen Aura that basically stated, "You guys do OK so I really can't take the time to fix Frozen Aura right now." Honest, but really I think that if that's the answer on a lot of issues people will get discouraged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While true, since I have been on that topic for a very long time, we've gotten much more detailed responses in PMs that we haven't been allowed to share. Having someone that the Devs trust to relay the information may allow us to reveal more information to the public from PMs, which might help to passify the ravenous public.

Not saying this would happen, but I know that Castle has usually given me much more info in private conversations than he's put in the tanker forums.
  18. While I certainly wouldn't mind this, and I do think that it would help with communication with the Devs, I do have one, small problem with it. Now, please take this as a criticism that would hopefully allow us to make the idea better in the end, and not as a dismissal of the entire idea.

But what happens if, after being voted in as a correspondent, the person takes off for a year? I'm not saying that many would do this, but it could happen. Would there be a way to re-elect the position? I mean, if the AC goes missing after 6 months serving wonderfully at their post, what happens?
  19. [ QUOTE ]
ice ember you need to probably work on your slotting then, or maybe choose a build that doesn't totally revolve around dropping ice patch and spamming burn.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Stasis, if you're so good as to see that Ice Melee is great, I'd really love for you to educate us poor /Ice tankers who can't see to find decent slotting in over 3 years. I mean, I must be missing something. So by all means, let us know what your slotting is, and we'll see if it is indeed better.
  20. The Kheld thing aside, since my Peacebringer has been requested on many teams, and I need no help with Quantums or Voids, I still disagree with everything you've said.

    [ QUOTE ]
But back to the original point at hand, ice melee functions fine at any level. ice patch is what really makes the set in pve, and while its low damage (obviously) its control more than makes up for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really...would you like to discount the math that people have put up to show that no, it doesn't? Ice patch is good, but on the whole, the control level isn't as good as you seem to think it is. It's barely above stone, and the lack of damage is well below stone. We've backed this up with numbers. If you'd care to do the same, or have any evidence to back up your opinion, that would be great.

    [ QUOTE ]
as annoying as they are, stone/ice tanks are probably the best tanks you can build for pure tanking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd agree with that, but they're not going to be doing any damage. And therein lies the problem. No one here is arguing that /Ice allows for good control, what we're saying is that the corresponding lack of damage is actually lower than it needs to be for the control that we have. Especially the functional control.

Ice Patch should not mean that the rest of the set has to suck, and we have numbers showing that it pretty much does.
  21. Well, if we're going to go about it this way, might we want to start coming up with a list of the data we'd like to see, or how we would go about getting the data, since we won't be able to see it?

It seems like we've gone from showing the Devs our math to making sure they have the numbers we'd be looking at if we were doing this.
  22. Arch is still around, but Circeus took off well before I9.
