Quote:Tell you want I did notice tonight that was very weird. Villians are better at working together than heroes are.I agree that it was pretty hostile and elitist. However not everyone was like that, and if you found a good crowd, PvP was [b]alot[b] of fun. Even against the hostile pvp crowd it was fun to fight them, cause they'd usually shut up when you beat them, it was quite satisfying.
Regardless PvP did have a presence in this game before i13, hostile community or not, it was still a prominent part of the game, i13 nuked that. If their goal was to drive away that community they did a great job at that, but they also didn't help the game grow at all, rather they took a number of steps backwards and have never redeemed themselves from that loss.
A very good friend of mine Lord Seeth was his global left not long ago because the i13 changes took a lot of the magic out of the game for him. The person who made those changes is gone now though. The current powers team is a group of really good guys, I would bet that they will revisit it and find way to make it fun again.
I am not sure melee will still have a real place, but hey it never did before either....unless you were a stalker. -
Honest question here, do you guys ever play a set just because it is fun? Or is it always about the numbers? I have a lvl 50 incarnate TW/EA brute and while powerful, it is boring as watching paint dry compared to the fast pace of staff fighting.
Best attack chain? What ever is fun for me at the time.
In the end concepts are what make me play my characters. If I come up with a concept that I love, and attach it to a power set that fits. Then I am having fun and the character gets played.
I guess the numbers are fun for some people, but I just am not one of them. /SD is suppose to be mana from heaven for scrappers, and I can't stand the set. It is just not fun for me.
Just wanted to throw that out there. Tomorrow I will be having FUN playing my new staff/ea scrapper on live. -
I tested it when it was first put in the game, and then again when it went live. I found it to be the most frustrating thing I had ever done, because I play scrapers. There was also a ton of trash talk back then, and I was a lot younger. I preferred for those talking trash to me to be within arms reach so I could punch them in the moth.
Well, now I am older, wiser, and on another server. So tonight I go to hit on some pill boxes for a badge and end up in some pvp. First thing I realized was that my powers did not work the same. My end drain did not do what it was supposed to do! My lore pets were chumps, and my recharge seemed much slower.
Other than that, there was no trash talking. I won only one, but chased off a few. All in all it was a much better experience than I had before.
I think the main reason PvP never took off in this game was because how caustic the PvP community was at one point in time. They may still be that way for all I know, but I somehow doubt it. I think all the jerks left around i13 and the crazy changes. No one likes to lose and have their noses rubbed in it.
Sore winners are FAR worse than sore losers imo. I may try RV again at some point. I kinda had fun tonight, even though I was on a scrapper made for pve. -
Quote:And ZM, those of us who love costumes will tell them where they can head straight to, and what they can kiss on the way there.I firmly believe if porting backpacks was easy, it would have been done 3 years ago. The Devs have no reason to hold it back and they've consistently maintain there were engineering problems with making backpacks happen. Fortunately, they seem to have recently solved that problem and they are starting to give us backpack items.
We're getting a trickle now, and by this time next year, I predict someone will complain about too many backpack costumes and not enough of X. -
Quote:This is subjective. Quivers would be useful even to the non archers because they would make the game look better. Which means even the non archers would find enjoyment in them.my assumption is that quivers would be a bunch of work to make a piece that only archers would use and many probably would not.
there are very few archers, so why spend dev resources making a piece that is so limited in its use?
the devs want to add everything to the game, but dev resources need to be spent where they are most useful
I think the real answer is just that they have not gotten around to it yet. From what I gather there are 2 people Dink and a dude names Charles that never posts, and perhaps a 3rd guy they may or may not have hired at this point. There is only so much time in the day.
IMO, there should be more player costume artists than anything else working at Paragon. I also feel that any new enemy group should be designed on the player rig so the players can have access to ALL of those costumes.
David told us that Jay designed the new CoT costumes on the PC rig, so I found it very odd that we did not get ALL of the CoT parts. Honestly I was pretty ticked off at what was left out, and can only hope this will be corrected in the future.
Hey Devs, we want the CoT long skirt, big hat, belt, big gauntlets, and back detail. Just in case you didn't know, you do now. The devs need to stop holding back items we can take off of the majority of mobs on the street.
I was under the impression that going forward all of the revamped and new NPC groups were going to use the player rig. If I misunderstood it would be awesome if a red name (which includes Zwill imo) would correct me. Why? Because that would keep my expectations low, and I would not be as disappointed as I was over the CoT costume set.
I have 15 incarnate lvl 50 characters, each of which could stomp a mud hole in a CoT death mage, some in a single hit. I should be able to get me a long Cot Skirt, some spiky gauntlets, or a pope hat. Dang, just release a CoT pack 2 already so we will shut up about it.
The next issue has some beautiful costumes in it, that any VIP can log on and look at. I really hope the Devs were intelligent enough to design those with giving them to the players in mind. Character Customization is the strongest aspect of this game. I like the writing and the zones, but let's be bluntly honest for a moment. Character Customization is the strongest thing this game offers. Everything they do should in some way add to that aspect of this game. Bottom line.
If costumes are made that the players can not use, then that is a failure on the part of the art team. I love you guys (the devs) I have been a member of this community for over 7 years. This game has seen me through the loss of a lung, the birth of 2 children, and now it is helping me deal with cancer. So I feel the need to be honest and say this is out of love.
Please for the love of all that is good in the world STOP making character art assets that the players can not use outside of the signature character items, and Death Mages are NOT signature characters.
I can do the same missions over and over as long as I can look different while doing them.
Love you guys, really do. -
Paragon Wiki should have them. Including the ones seen in Yin's Shop, and the other pawn shops.
I know they have a list of all of the PC models. With pics too iirc. I would just link them, but I am a bit out of it because of meds today. -
In the game now, or do future releases count also?
Now
Tsoo (I want that sash) The Ancestral Sorcerer would do I guess. He has the hat, the skirt, the Sash, and the glowing tats.
If not that
The CoT death mage. He has all the parts that did not come with the CoT pack.
If it can be a future release.
The Black Knight Templar costume. -
Quote:Yes, but they are rare Zyphoid....you are rare. People are not good by nature. It's not pessimistic...it's the truth.
This is coming from a person who was raised in the south.
I take that as a complement, as I am also a southerner. I have seen my fair share of bad in humanity, but something always seems to happen to renew my faith.
I think the time for the game to just merge is fast approaching. Go gray and you have access to the whole of the game. For whatever reason, the majority of the players just don't find red side to be fun. I am not sure that a huge influx of content would fix it either. -
I really don't want them in the super packs, unless the pack can recognize that I already have them and remove them from the reward table. Which is how it currently works for the elemental set.
I would rather any costumes put in super packs be ones that I don't have already. I found it exciting to buy the packs to get the costumes.
Also as a t9 vet, there really was nothing of more value to spend my tokens on than super packs. At one point I had 12k reward merits, 200+ XP boosters, 200+ experienced powers, and the list goes on of the cool stuff I have that I can pull from because of super packs.
Note: I am however fine with them just out right selling those costumes in the store when they are rotated out. -
I like the thousands and thousands of reward merits I have. To each their own.
-
Quote:But the set is just plain fun. There is nothing else to say about it but that. I know that is subjective, but hey it is my money. It is so 70's and 80's king fu that it is just a blast to play. For the record; Staff Fighting is pretty Middle of the Road with Radius 2 longer AoEs.
... Yeah it's probably not worth the hype but it's cool? But it doesn't have Dual Blades potential. None of the attacks in Staff Fighting are remotely exceptional. It's Average piled on Average.
Worth 800 points? Maybe for 'look', but at least it's not as bad as Beast Mastery. I'm probably not buying this one unless I get my desired Naginata. -
Quote:Yeah, I didn't pay a huge amount of attention to it because I was t9 with all the celestial items when freedom launched. I knew it was something like that though. The Technical Issue was the Paragon Rewards tokens for subs. They delayed removing Celestial because they wanted to give more people time to accumulate tokens since they don't (currently, hope it gets fixed) award up front for subs.
I said it on the beta boards, and I will say it here too. I really don't care if they sell them in the store. More money for the game is a good thing IMO. -
I had 33 or so reward tokens just sitting there....then they added super packs to the table.
-
Wow, you are some pessimistic folks. I have been a Network Engineer, after 9/11 happened I took a $20 an hour pay cut to be a paramedic. When I lost my lung and could no longer do that job I decided to become a counselor (in school now). I have recently found out I have cancer in my larynx, and may lose my voice. So I decided to learn sign language just in case. If I had not just taken my pain meds I may not have shared all of that.
You know, some people really do find it fulfilling to be good people. -
Quote:This may actually be a good thing.I honestly just think folks don't enjoy playing the bad guy as much as being the good guy. A lot more people seem inclined to save the day, get the girl, be the hero, get praised, etc. as opposed to manipulating others, scheming, kidnapping and murder, and ruining lives.
I did however include that fact in my reasoning.
Oh, and I HATE Sharkhead with a passion. That is one of the worst zones ever created in any game. -
Quote:Gotta call bs on this one. We VIP players did spend money on the set, and I say this coming from the position of having it (celestial) on day 1 of freedom. Fact is I kept up my sub for that long.I think they should. The VIPs got it first and didn't have to spend Paragon Points on it. That seems like a fair perk, now let everyone else have a shot.
I really don't care if they sell it in the store, but please don't imply that VIPs didn't pay for the set. -
Me too, I have a good excuse though.
Here is what I know for sure. The original plan was to phase them out and vault them every 6mo iirc. But there ended up being a technical issue with removing and replacing them. So, the goal was always to remove them, but the goal was also for people to get all their tokens for long term subs up front also.
Honestly, they may, or may not remove the celestial set for the mecha set. I know the goal was to do so, but there is no guarantee that will happen.
So, you guys may get lucky, and they may extend the tree rather than remove what is already there. I think that is the better idea any way. -
If you really need us to. I am pretty sure you can find it on the beta boards though. I personally think they should just keep expanding the top of the tree, but I have 7 reserve tokens, and a full tree already. My view on the subject may be clouded.

Quote:I hate the content too. I LIKE being the good guy, and have no desire to be a bad guy. I am a good guy in real life, I am happy with being the same in this game.I argue the reverse. The majority of people are upstanding members of their communities already, so being a villain in-game is more cathartic. If you listened for a change, you'd find that it's not the content people object to, it's the bleakness in the Isles.
The zones are depressing, and lag is worse, and people like playing super heroes.
However, at one point in time the stories were better written and implemented. With far less hunts and fed ex missions. Another problem is the contacts all treat you like a chump (they are evil after all) and if I don't have the option to stomp a mud hole in them, then I don't want them talking to me like that.
Now that I can start with any AT blue side, I will NEVER play red side again. I don't really think there is anything short of letting me beat the hell out of my contacts at the end of every arc that could get me to play red side again.
Shoot the only contact I like (Hardcase) everyone else hates. -
I don't think you were replying to me, but I do want to be clear that I was not saying that at all.

Quote:I will be the first to admit that in the past I have directed a lot of frustration at marketing. We're seeing an awful lot of very, very snide remarks and personal directed at marketing and business development. I know it's easy, and popular, to point fingers at "Evil Marketing", but this sentiment has been extremely over the top lately. As I've clarified before, Community does not equate to Marketing here at Paragon. That does not mean that we're not all working towards the same goal.
However, I had the chance to team with Black Pebble a few times over that past week, and he is actually pretty cool. When we chat with the devs in a respectful manner, they tend to respond in the same way.
Yeah, I am not a huge fan of the way marketing does certain things. That is on me though, not them. My selfishness and desire to know what is coming and what is in development is the sole reason for my dislike of marketing. I love the game, I am passionate about the game, and I just want to know.
I get however that their job is to release the information in a way that has the greatest benefit for the game. Like anything in life, sometimes it works masterfully, and some times it fails horrible. IT is what it is, but it is their job.
I really advise all VIP players to take the time to log in and test on the beta server. Not only to test, but because it also gives you a chance to talk to the devs here and there. You get to see that most of them are pretty cool, and even honest.
There is a long list of gripes I could list here. The lack of a male sash, and the CoT costumes left out would be at the top of the list. No one person is responsible for these things though.
What I would suggest is that marketing allow more communication like what Dink has done. Costumes are one of this community's greatest passion. Knowing what is in the pipes, and seeing behind the curtain makes us happy. It makes us excited about giving your our money.
In that, I ask that certain things be reconsidered. Like what items were released with the CoT set. If more is to come just tell us, yeah we may post begging for them, but that is better than us complaining that we didn't.
I guess what it boils down to is communication. While those of us who visit the board may only be about 10% of the game's population. I promise we are in contact and sharing information with the other 90% of the players. -
They didn't have to tell us at all that they were releasing it, or when. But I can say that, because I planned ahead and have enough points to buy it.
-
I mean more like the gender equality threads.
If I were the boss (which I am not yet, but one day!!!!!) no realy. If I were in charge I would pause Dink, or the other guy that never posts, and have them make a male and huge sash to include in the next issue.
It would solve a long standing complaint. -
If the male and huge model do not get a sash soon, I see a riot coming.
