I'm a chick. I love men.
That.... was not what I love. -
Wow there was way too much .... mostly naked guy in that. Not enough adorable dancing hamster.
*shudder* -
I've got this page bookmarked. I will watch 2 and 3 later, but 1 is so hilarious... YARR!
Great work. Keep it up! -
It really is a ton of fun! I'm 2.5 bars from 8 now, leveling quickly with you guys! I cannot wait to start running sg mode, I hate going without it.
-
I think with the way most of us Alt, there will be someone on and if we're in global be able to swing by for missions and stuff. I have sooo many alts. but the grouping done last night was SO fun!
We died in so many interesting ways! -
lol
Since I was afflicted with the 'can't get on' problem earlier it'll be a bit before I'm done finally tallying the votes. -
I'll be on in another 3 hours .... sigh.
I was dc'd and crashed - I was one of the folks with the problem getting on to ANY coh related sites since last night until now. So please forgive me for having abandoned my post in that mission guys! I was so angry, I could walk around but no powers would go off, and then I got the lost connection message. -
Yup - I'll get it on there.
-
Well for the moment just get your toons up to whatever level you'd like em, we still have to get a 10 to start the SG
-
Excellent, thanks! It's noted in my notes, and will be included in the final tally.

See the weird thing about that is, 2 years ago when they started getting those 'big names' on board, the comics were HORRIBLE. They were starting the 'let's bring back Hal Jordan because all the Editors love Hal Jordan' crap at DC, and then whatever it was Marvel just did with their utterly failed 'civil war' thing (which I've only heard about that it was late, stalled, badly written and more confusing than most). I actually felt relieved that I no longer had to order books knowing that they were failing to actually write anything new, interesting or *more to the point* directed at their actual audience instead of themselves.
I'm not impressed at all with the curren crop of crap. Until Bendis started writing almost every single Marvel title out there, I loved his stuff but what a way to blow out a great writer.
As a retailer (Hence my main being Retail Retali8r) I was brutal and honest in my opinons of what was coming out on the shelves. I had about 300 regulars at my store, and I knew what they would want and not want. My boss didn't believe me, so we sold out of whatever we really needed and had plenty left over of what we didn't. But when a customer would come to me and ask, "is this good?" I would be able to tell them - I read every single book (barring all the Manga and even then I read a bunch of those too) I could, upwards of 200 books A WEEK. I would give them my actual opinion: oh the art is lovely, but wow the story tanks, or there's a twist at the end you'll like, or they introduced someone new for the sake of a plot hole, don't bother. I only wish that the publishers would remember that it's not themselves they need to stroke, it's the actual people reading the comics.
This, my friends, is why I do not participate in conversations in the Comics and Fandom section.... because I'd be sooooo .... verbose and frustrated.
When I kept asking Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, hey why don't you focus on GIRLS for your next audience? They told me HELL no, there's no market for that!!
MANGA. One word. Blew american comics out of the water, and it was only 10 years after the fact. I asked SO many times. When's the girl comics gonna be made? Huh? Well... ppppffffttth.

No, it's the US gov't issuing them. It was a measure passed last November. I think you can still drive across, without one. But flights going anywhere out of the country you have to have a passport here now. Puts a fairly large dent in that for me, since I'd want to just fly directly instead of hassle through new york *GAH* in a rental car.
-
You know, since you're gonna be drawing it, you have a say too!
-
Wow, you mean the ComicCon people here in san diego haven't sued them for using their name? I saw that and though YEAH! i'm going! but... um, not toronto. San Diego. lol.
dude, Jim Lee's tryin'a grow a 'stache. >_> lol! And Bendis just keeps getting rounder and more grape like. I love him.
GOD I miss comic books.
<------ ran a comic store for 13 years.
And wait - people from the US NEED A PASSPORT now for CANADA flights... :/ -

so it's
- Pinnacle
- Liberty
- Champion
- Triumph
I good for any of those too!

Like I said I already have a Viridia of Zekira on Champion (in the forumites united group though), but I'm good for Liberty for a new toon. -
This is the last day for the voting!
Now, please also keep in mind.... I'm paying for most of this. The guys with the most votes WILL be getting in, though I will be sliding in my guy and perhaps one or more others which deserves a chance.
If you have not voted for MORE THAN ONE, please do so now, though please dont' duplicate your prior vote, mmkay? I'd like to just see voting instead of campaigning, because it's kinda confusing to me to look back and filter out who has and hasn't voted yet. Got one or two in that way here, so the votes have been tallied so far. I've convered the / marks to numbers for easier seeing.

I'm also going to start prodding some outsiders for their opinions. They may break ties for me. I'm also going to head onto the servers and start asking others to come by in case they haven't seen
To review!
Head to the web page (above) and click on the links to see the beefy boys we're voting on for a calendar drawn by none other than Brandon McKinney!
Choose up to 16 (12 months plus 4 who either have a season or no indication of what they want their toon to be listed as) and post them here, or in my PM box, or email them to me at
lethe dot gray atsymbol sbcglobal dot net
(copy paste and figure it out).
I am still taking donations, this IS a rather expensive piece. I've gotten 3 separate donations adding up to about 110$, which is about a quarter of the full price. (see why I say, I get to kinda sway things, eh? )
Remember to check everyone, because I would like a wide variety of guys shown, not just the ones who've already gotten a lot of artwork or exposure here. Go with your personal feelings!
Voting ends tonight at midnight! Tallying and choosing will begin when I get up, lol. Brandon and I will be talking about it once the finalists are up.
VOTE! FLEX! VOTE! -
I'd like to be included please, though ... um, I'm full up on Protector with my oldest account so getting the good powers and sg base stuff from me will need to be on another server Though it's my home, I'm willing to drift.
I do have a Viridia of Zekira on Champion, though I'll be happy to do something with her since she's on the Forumites united sg but it's kinda fragmented anyway. :/
I hope that the Elves currently qualify. I've got 2 new drawing pads to fill and I intend to give out some superheroes soon. -
I would highly recommend learning to draw from classsic images and paintings, because learning from superheroes has truly ruined a lot of otherwise talented artists. (rob lifeld comes to mind) having basic knowledge of how to draw should come before learning to do the caricture that is superheroes. Learn proportion first - then learn how to mix it up with longer legs, smaller heads and biceps the size of mellons
My friend Billy Martinez (who did the Wildflower, Kickass Girl comics) also teaches art - I don't know if he has a site up with tutorials but I've seen him take a poor to mediocre artist and make them into a passable cartoonist.
Still takes a bit of talent to build skill upon. But I definitely recommend shopping around for the How to Draw Manga books 1 and 2. The first two books cover the basics of what paper, ink, pens and pencils to use, how to hold them, and the starts of perspective and proportion. There are about 50 others in that series, but the first two cover the very basics, and I highly recommend them. -
The same page is updated with whatever the last date I've put new votes on. You might want to refresh the page when you view it. I have one set of votes that haven't yet been put up.
The voting ends tomorrow night!

Cool, thanks I assume you read the /elves/otherforest.htm page? (I hope because that's got all the good info on it.) I've been into Elfquest for so long, it's such a part of me that it's hard to NOT think of things like this. Plus I still have a good knack for hitting people's personality or an event just by what they fill out on the form... Sometimes it's guessing, but sometimes I just have an idea that won't go away and stick with it, to good results. They at least do outweigh the few times I've utterly screwed em up...

Speaking of edits, might as well pull my entries from the contest.

I'd rather keep them there, they DO have a couple votes, and I'd rather have people see all the options instead of just *cough* voting by big-names -
That's without photo ref? Wow. It really is pretty. I like the fade and blur on the bottom (literally) and how the line's sharper on the top. Very nice.
