  1. I use a .5mm mechanical pencil, I really love sharp, clean lines. I also ink directly with a .5 ballpoint (well, whatever is available and isn't gonna smudge) so my pencil lines 9 times out of 10 = slightly lighter versions of my ink lines.

I hardly sketch, when I draw. I use the most bare of construction lines on anything, and usually I know where I need to draw and where I don't. I basically *never* shade.

Some shaded pieces are just beautiful, and it's definitely a skill worth pursuing IF you know how to do it right. I am not one of those people. I prefer straight up pristine, easily-colored line works.
  2. Retail Retali8r is in the last big group shot of the last issue *woot*

I love looking at Brandon's art. It's so fun!
  3. Yeah that's the new hami,.... a bit smaller, more compact.

The bug wings = so pretty! I only saw the fairy and bone wings while I was there...
  4. Seconded! Lol! That's awesome!!
  5. (bloody eyeballs - eew )

Maintenance man rules. I like the expressions on those you can see the faces (Kinda hard for BAS lol) and the poses are good!

    Elves! Heroes!

I'm pretty sure I have you. If you seem to be on the above list then it's no worry

    Elves! Heroes!

    I'm working! I'm working!

Right now I'm on the batch of 'not quite filled out' forms that came to me without a valid Email address attached. I know for certain TA and Blue dagger's will be okay, but there are still a small number of them which I don't have anyone attached to them that I can confirm.

Here are some that I have only a few bits of info for, and if anyone knows who they belong to please give em a heads up and send them here.

name; ROSEY -- this is, I presume, filled out by mom or dad - because the age is listed as 8 and has some family members to bring along. PLEASE get back to me about who you are if I've already gotten mom and / or dad!

name: unknown -- ANIMALS = wolfs, ravens and rats -- no clue who you are, please send

name: DREW/DreWolff -- did you get back to me yet?

name; DAN C/ Squigs -- again i don't know if you got back to me.

name: CODY L / Gyffes -- as above.

name: XERROSS - I just need your email, I'm positive you're here

name; unknown / none given -- ANIMALS = 'monkeys, who doesn't like monkeys' --- I need much, much more info on you before I can make an elf... this wasn't Ish was it?

If you haven't been confirmed please pm me with your email and a confirmation about your details. Those who haven't yet spoken up get pushed back a bit, and I've got more coming in
  8. Also: click B to bring your view to first-person, and hit it again to scroll out. Or use your scroll wheel if your mouse has one. (I hope it does, it's invaluable!)

The user interface can be *toggled* on and off in screenshots, as can your choice between formats. Check your menu/options for that

Also there's a command called /camdist which can help you zoom in and out a little. They did nerf its distance a while back - you used to be able to zoom WAAAAY back, but no longer because of cheating teleporters... You type that like any other emote command, with a number value. I think it goes to 300 or 400 now? I'm sure there's a post with that info somewhere. You can get just a touch closer to your toon without having it 'fade out' on you, with the /camdist tool.

(edit - also, you can use the 'PAGE UP' key, hold that key and move your mouse to rotate. I think it's easier than pressing down on the scroll wheel myself.)
  9. I do have a plotline for my characters, most of the time, however...

I also like plausable denyability when I'm doing re-writes. I like pretty much leaving things up for interpretation, except for if I'm going to be playing a tabletop rpg or writing a piece of fiction about them.

Because... diverging timelines abound in my worlds...
  10. That's quite fun!

I don't know if it's because of the limitations on the program, but sometimes it's hard to follow which word balloons you need to read in what order. Crossing panels with them is not a good idea, try to keep them as together as possible for that reason.

Also, the blue color on the cover for the font is very, very hard to read. Maybe put a drop shadow if you can, in a brighter color to offset the fact that it all but bleeds into the black.

Good work otherwise, very nicely done screenies and story!

In this case, google is most certainly NOT your friend

And I agree with the ^^^ poster above this, that this isn't *because* or *due to* Curse-Gaming. I don't honestly think they had anything to do with this choice, but that's just my opinion.

There are some artists, creators, companies and publishers out there who are *absolutely* on the ball when it comes to fan items. WARP graphics, publishers of Elfquest for instance, has a huge database of their fans sites, images, stories and the like on their own *actual* site. They know that fans run the business.

The guy who created the Redwall series (I haven't read it and can't recall the name off the top of my head) is very pro-fan, as well, and essentially his whole website is fan-created.

Obviously other game companies to a smaller or greater amount have fan-pieces on their sites and *approve* of them so long as they're not actually offensive to people. (and even then...)

This isn't an issue of "not" wanting to choose Curse Gaming or any other site... It's an issue of the publishers of this game site - here in the USA because this is not the case in the Euro version - being bound by whatever legal 'eagles' they have working over time to decide what's "best" for them.

Best and "best" - being very different things....

My advice: fire the lawyers. Hire php coders and give us fan stuff available right here where we'll all already be to use it.
  12. Don't take this personally Nimloth-Cu because I realize you're only a representitive of the site, and it's not actually directed at you per se.

But ... we're being directed to a site which hasn't been created for the City of Heroes populace. That's the problem. This is obvious by the reg date on the rep's profile. The people at your site, Nim - do they PLAY city of heroes?

Lighthouse: that's why I personally don't care to go there. It's not organized *in advance*. It's not *part of the City of Heroes mindset*. It is not *made by or for COH fans*.

If you'd arranged *much* earlier to have a good, well-thought-out section specifically for COH members to post, or to look for their stuff, that's one thing. Should have, could have, didn't.

I have no interest in a site that's designed for WOW or guildwars or dark age or whatnot - the mindset of the *people who usually play* those games is significantly different from that of the COH crowd, from what I've seen in nearly 3 years of play.

I don't look to fan sites to see whether there's a good artist out there for me to read. I go to Deviantart because that's where 9 out of 10 already *are*.

For the Curse-Gaming site to work for me, it'd have to have the functionality of DA plus a number of special filters (such as the ones found on Yaoi-gallery, which obviously I can't link to here) to give the artists *and* viewers things to choose to view, instead of having to click through endless screenshots of games they don't play.

The whole thing, I'm sorry to say, does reek of 'well we should have done it this way' but didn't. LH - in the future maybe you should arrange things a little more thoroughly with the 'partners' that are being talked to, so when you do make an announcement we won't break their site, or find nothing of interest appropriate to us on it.
  13. Mine are quite nice - I only alter them once, honestly, and after that point of course they do start degrading. The problem with tgas is that... um, you can't display them in that format online, can you? I've never seen one - most browsers can't even recognize them that I know of. I share my stuff, so I use jpgs.

I don't even know what's ON the 12 I took that were sucking down processor time while browsing the folder. >_> I should try opening them, but they take so long to load with psp. I think I did get psp to recognize tgas though... .I think. meh.

.... Bitmaps all the way baby lol. Well, until pngs become the standard for transparent images on the web....

1920 by 1200 saved as TGA format. As it turns out, only 5,327 screen shots, but still 29.3 gigs...heh, I tossed one of my web comic folders in there on accident during the initial consolidation ; )

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, I can't even view tga's, they kept clogging my folder whenever I took em. froze up PSP 8. Weird. But they're also HUGE ginormous files.... jpgs are nice smalllll. Plentiful.
  15. *chuckle*

You must have a huge resolution on your screenies, what format are you saving them as? I have around 11400 files, but only just over 3.6 gigs.

OOO OOO! I got a request for screenshot takers!!!

Turn on antialiasing and leave your shader on high.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Welll DUH, that goes without saying!!

Stop nerfin your screenshots people! Lag is a small price to pay!
  17. Oh, no, no I have screenies of Vazhilok leatherclad butts aplenty, actually. I have actually always thought that the basic human designs in this game are far superior to most others. While there are some clipping problems or weirdness at distances where things 'blend together' (like this morning we were taking out a troll rave and half the trolls looked like they had huge, square hunchbacks because of the distance) I think they're gorgeous.

Like in the PVP that came with the original game, and has been stated many times since: if I'm gonna be staring at a characters' butt all day, it might as well look good.

My issue with the screenshot takers who never seem to remove themselves from the picture is this: I take a LOT of screenies. A LOT. Like, thousands. I've had to move them all from the original area to a separate folder *by year* to avoid browsing errors and load times when I'm viewing them. But one of the things I use them for is backgrounds for other pictures, so a gorgeous shot of the caves in those little islands north of Talos, for instance, can become a dragon's nest. Or a lineup of drawn characters standing in front of the PPD buildings. To do those there must not be anything/anyone in the way, right?

I just wonder whether some folks realize you can go 1st person or what? I mean admittedly it's very difficult to actually PLAY that way for long, but it's an option that's always there.

I think a tutorial for all the 'social aspects' of the game (from screenshots, how to turn your camera view on yourself's front end, using chat properly, and etiquette) would be a nice addition...
  18. roffle!

I know our toons look good. But I'm talking about "when there's something you want to show everyone that's NOT your toon's exquisitely jay-crafted butt".
  19. Hey.

.... When you're taking screenshots of something ultra cool and interesting?

Would you please scroll into 1st person view so that your toon's behind isn't what we see instead of all that cool jazz?

Altogether too many really nice screenshots are lessened by this phenomenon, and it's very very simple to change. Just use your B button. Or the little scroll wheel on your mouse. That's all.

    .... Yes, that's all. Thankew. /e bow

    Happy 10k TA.

    oooOOoooo. Nice.

Some day I'll get around to making TA. Like as a superhero not as an elf Will that count as 2?

Ok if they can't have art on NCSoft's site, then why are they encouraging it on another site that they don't own? THAT doesn't make sense to me. If they can pimp one site, why not another site? Or their OWN site? Y'know?

*shrug* I'm not a lawyer either

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I dunno.

All that bandwidth. It might all wind up on the same hardware as the FORUMS are, and that'd be ... a disaster.

Or ... instanced hami areas could become corrupted by the art.

Suddenly Hamidon appears as a 200 foot tall Thor's Assassin By Creator X and Inker Y
  22. I'm sure that once I start actually drawing my friends here as their heroes, I'm gonna have to look into a more game-specific thing like this. For now like everyone else.... It's DA for me Been there for a couple years so I don't feel the need to rush out and get on somewhere else. But I probably will duplicate stuff there.

Two thumbs up LH for plugging this

    Work Area

I usually wind up drawing when I'm standing up at work, I have a counter I can put stuff near (well, not supposed to but like I care? the laptop's there right as I type ) and it works nicely for sketching. I go home and scan at my computer for colors.

My work space is to say the least...... jammed with crap. I have a 28 inch wide desk. My scanner doubles as table for dinner. (and ... eew, yeah it's kinda grody). I have books and reference materials *everywhere*.

I'd work on my light table in the sun room. Except that my snake cage is on it for lack of anywhere else to put it. And the table I was supposed to be using for legos and art is now home to my mom's recycling crap along with whatever else she feels necessary to put there... god forbid I have a work space. Dining room table's too tall for me.

Myself I can't draw in the sun. It's just far, far too bright for me to see anything on the white paper. I like it overcast when I'm up and about if I need to look at anything. But I can draw anywhere really, other than if I have to be on my bed, I just can't sit that way.
  24. Well, yeah, he did say he'd do that if you said 'who's that'?

    Google is your friend!
  25. Aaaaah hah hah that's so great!
